00:00Tara Macaulay sits beside her 19-year-old daughter, Kiara.
00:08Unbeknownst to her, both of their lives are about to change forever.
00:12How's my house fucking crazy?
00:14There's a deceased person in your garage.
00:16That's why it's a crime to see.
00:17There's a body in there?
00:18Yes. Stand up for me.
00:21Kiara is a deranged teenage killer.
00:24She just brutally killed her ex-girlfriend with a three-foot-long sword.
00:29The body lies in her mother's home just feet away.
00:33But this discovery of a body would be just the start.
00:38The investigation that followed would reveal a vile teenage couple
00:41whose actions left officers, family members, and detectives in utter shock
00:47as their horrifying crimes slowly began coming to light.
00:52Oh my God! What happened? What happened?
00:56You can see like slashed on her knee.
00:57She's missing a year.
00:58And then there's a big-ass sword, and then there's bloodstains all over the bed.
01:01I walked into the garage.
01:03She goes, oh, I just did it.
01:05Walk this way.
01:06What the...
01:08The day begins when 911 dispatch receives a call from a distressed mother.
01:22She claims that her son, 22-year-old Isaac, has just witnessed his girlfriend, Kiara,
01:28decapitate a woman inside her own home.
01:31The call is unclear, and officers don't know whether the suspect is still on the scene
01:36or if they're planning to take more innocent lives.
01:39Within minutes, five officers arrive at the scene prepared for the worst.
01:44We need someone on the back side from the alley.
01:53Somewhere down here.
01:54Five, nine, four, one.
02:05Huh?
02:05We're gonna walk in.
02:06Move.
02:07Kick it in.
02:09Let's put it on the door.
02:10Keep the door.
02:11I got your number.
02:13Keep the door, man.
02:14Let me see your eyes.
02:15Back up.
02:15Back up.
02:16What's going on?
02:19Who called?
02:21Who called what?
02:22Someone was getting killed in there.
02:24We're being told that the girlfriend's in the garage.
02:26That's where she...
02:27Where's the garage?
02:28Apparently, she killed the other 41.
02:31Officers get intel that the body is inside the home's garage, directly behind them.
02:36One team will clear the primary house, while the other prepares to make entry into the garage.
02:41Without any detailed information, the officers have to proceed with extreme caution.
02:47Police department!
02:51I think it goes around, maybe?
02:54I think it goes around.
03:01How do people live like this?
03:02While the officers in the house find nothing of interest, the same can't be said for the team entering the garage.
03:11Who's in this garage?
03:12My fucking door!
03:13Okay, watch what you...
03:14Someone just called it.
03:15Someone just got...
03:16Step over here.
03:17Step over here.
03:18Someone just got stabbed.
03:21Inside that garage.
03:22Stabbed here?
03:24Stop!
03:24Anybody was stabbed here?
03:26Yeah, we got one down, Santa Fe.
03:40Go back inside.
03:42Go back inside.
03:43I'm not going to tell you again.
03:44Go back inside.
03:45Detain him.
03:46Detain him.
03:46What are you talking about?
03:50Santa Fe, police.
03:51Anyone inside?
03:52Yeah, I can't.
03:58Got one down.
03:59No, they can't.
04:00They can't start.
04:02They're right here by the door.
04:04Can you open the garage from that side?
04:10No, it's broken.
04:11It's been broken for 10 years.
04:13Inside the garage, officers find 21-year-old Grace Jennings dead.
04:19She has a deep laceration across her neck and several slashes across her body.
04:25Tara McCulley appears completely clueless about what's happening.
04:28However, the same can't be said for her daughter, Kiara.
04:32While officers continue searching the garage, body cam footage captures 19-year-old Kiara frantically
04:38explaining to her mother what happened.
04:4034?
04:4234?
04:42Yeah.
04:44No.
04:45We have Isaac on the phone.
04:47We want to know if you guys meet him.
04:49I guess he's the boyfriend.
04:50He invited you last night without him telling me.
04:52Where's he at?
04:53I got really pissed off, of course.
04:55But what would she...
04:57Why would she be here if he invited her last night?
05:00Let me tell you.
05:00So she stayed the night?
05:02Yeah.
05:03In my house?
05:04Yeah, and I'm pissed about it.
05:05Grace Jennings is the ex-girlfriend of Kiara.
05:29After a violent breakup years prior, she was banned from the property permanently.
05:34According to Kiara, her current boyfriend, 22-year-old Isaac, had invited Grace to sleep over the previous night, all without Kiara's permission.
05:42She claims this pissed her off, revealing a small glimpse as to what happened on this twisted Thursday morning.
05:50This is her girlfriend.
05:52Oh, can I get some shoes on or something?
05:55Not right now.
05:56We'll be detained at this point, okay?
05:58Did you guys have a fight or something?
06:01Can she sit down so I can put her shoes on her feet?
06:05Who else? Is there a female relationship?
06:07Her and Isaac.
06:09Sorry, sorry.
06:11Hi.
06:12Hello.
06:13And Isaac went for a walk?
06:17Yeah.
06:18I'm just going for a walk in the shower.
06:20But we're going to go on a walk.
06:21Yeah.
06:22Isaac, in fact, did not go for a walk.
06:24Instead, he frantically ran to a friend's workplace after finding Grace's decapitated body, with Kiara reportedly giggling beside it.
06:33Clearly, something is very wrong.
06:36Worst of all, Kiara's mother, Tara, hasn't even realized there's a dead body in the garage, or that her own daughter is responsible.
06:46No.
06:47I have cats.
06:48I have to...
06:49They can't get out of the house.
06:50Unfortunately, ma'am, but this is an active investigation, okay?
06:51So nobody's going back in the house.
06:52Can I walk the door somehow?
06:53No.
06:54This is a crime scene at this point.
06:55How is my house a fucking crime scene?
06:56There's a deceased person in your garage.
06:57That's why it's a crime scene.
06:58There's a body in there?
06:59Yes.
07:00Stand up for me.
07:01Walk this way.
07:02What the fuck?
07:03Couldn't come here with me, ma'am?
07:04As officers clear the home and detain Kiara, it seems the chaos has finally settled.
07:19Or, so they think.
07:21Because just seconds later, Grace's mother arrives on the scene completely unaware of what
07:27has just happened to her daughter.
07:29Hello, I'm Sergeant Rodriguez.
07:32So we still have an active investigation here.
07:36I don't have a lot of the details.
07:38Is she okay?
07:40What?
07:41Grace!
07:42Is she breathing?
07:43Living?
07:44Is she okay?
07:45I'm not sure of that.
07:46I don't have all the information.
07:47What happened?
07:48What happened?
07:49We're trying to gather all the information, ma'am.
07:51So, like the Sarge said, if you could go back with us to the police department,
07:54and then we can give you a little bit more information from there.
07:56Who's Grace?
07:57Do you have an idea of Grace or do you have a photo of Grace or anything?
08:00Grace.
08:01Of Grace?
08:02Grace, I'm sorry.
08:04Officers continue to comfort Grace's mother.
08:06They refrain from revealing Grace was deceased, something they'd have to explain later on.
08:12Across town, another team of officers begin searching for Kiara's boyfriend, Isaac, the
08:17only witness to the murder and a key figure in solving the case.
08:22During the 911 call, Isaac's mother told dispatch where he was, a tax store close to Kiara's house.
08:28Using that information, officers quickly tracked him down.
08:32Alright, stay right here.
08:35Let me look around real quick.
08:37For now, officers assume Isaac is simply an innocent bystander to Kiara's brutality.
08:43However, this will soon change.
08:45Yeah, there he is.
08:47He's coming out.
08:48Is that Isaac?
08:49Did you call us, bro?
08:50Yes, I called.
08:51Here, come over here.
08:52You're good.
08:53Come here.
08:54You don't have any knives, any weapons on you?
08:55No.
08:56No.
08:57Just put it down for now.
08:58Just put it down.
08:59You're not in trouble, bro.
09:00Got to make sure you don't have any weapons, okay?
09:01Put your hands up right here.
09:03For now, bro, just because we're, it looks like your girlfriend or whoever's in there,
09:08is really injured.
09:10So for now, we're going to put you under detention of cancer.
09:13We can figure this out.
09:14You're not under arrest.
09:15And who's in the garage?
09:16Who lives with you in the garage, your girlfriend?
09:18Kiara Macaulay.
09:19Okay.
09:20So can you tell me, how did this call, how did you call us?
09:25I walked into the garage, and when I walked in the garage, she goes, oh, I just did it.
09:36And who was this?
09:38Kiara Macaulay.
09:39She told you that?
09:41Very calmly and everything, blood on her hands.
09:45Okay.
09:46Officers have no reason to suspect Isaac of the murder.
09:49He remains cordial and provides them with a chilling account of Kiara's behavior after the murder.
09:54But his demeanor starts to take a drastic turn as he's placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.
09:59What was your name?
10:00Isaac Apataka.
10:01Isaac Apataka.
10:02Do you need to get checked out by meds, man?
10:03No.
10:04No?
10:05Okay.
10:06Do you want the air or anything?
10:07Are you hot, cold?
10:08About this, we'll roll down the window and we'll give you a minute, alright?
10:09I don't want to be here.
10:10No, no, no.
10:11Let me.
10:12I wanted to, I was already planning on leaving today too.
10:13I have all my stuff packed up and I wanted to go, I wanted to go to my mom and dad's because
10:19I'm, I'm not good in a, I'm not in a good mental space.
10:42To the untrained eye, Isaac's emotions might seem like shock from what he just witnessed.
10:47This is simply not the case.
10:51Because Isaac was far more involved in the murder than he's letting on and he knows it's
10:57only a matter of time before investigators start to catch on.
11:03Police end their conversation with Isaac and both he and Kiara are transported to the Santa
11:08Fe County Police Station.
11:09With both suspects being successfully detained, detectives will begin their process of individually
11:15interrogating Isaac and Kiara.
11:17One detective will conduct both interrogations, yet they'd turn out completely different from
11:22one another.
11:23Kiara's especially takes a dark turn as she delivers answers with a chilling truthfulness.
11:29What follows is not simply an interrogation, but one of the most disturbing conversations
11:35we've ever covered.
11:36Have you ever thought about hurting her or killing her?
11:39I've had a good dream like that.
11:41And how would you kill her?
11:43Dependent on the dream.
11:44So there's several dreams?
11:46Yes.
11:47But before the interrogations begin, the detective in charge will go to the crime scene looking
11:52to gather information from the primary officers.
11:55The detective assigned to this case is Javier Vigil of the Santa Fe Police Department.
12:00Javier is an experienced detective who, as of 2025, has been promoted to SWAT commander
12:06for SFPD.
12:07His objective at the scene is clear, to gather as much information as possible, as quickly
12:12as possible.
12:13He's focused on identifying the primary suspects and determining any potential motives.
12:18Every detail will be critical in shaping the narrative he'll use during interrogation, and ultimately,
12:23in securing a confession.
12:24What he doesn't realize yet is that his investigation will prove far more revealing than anyone anticipated.
12:31You got here first?
12:32I got here first, but we all kind of walked in at the same time.
12:33I come here, and from here, we have a straight shot.
12:34So I see her blonde girl, black t-shirt, running inside.
12:35So I call contact, I close the door, open it.
12:36No one's answering, so we break the door down, and she's like, oh shit.
12:37The suspect's boyfriend is the one that called him.
12:38No, it's a 40-one that called him.
12:39A third party, 10-40-one called him.
12:40The guy's mom.
12:41The mom's like, I have no idea what happened to him.
12:42The guy's mom.
12:43The mom's like, I have no idea what happened to him.
12:44The guy's mom.
12:45The mom's like, I have no idea what happened to him.
12:46This one's acting a little like weird, not seeing anything.
12:47So there's a container, cool.
12:48They go inside the garage and find the water.
12:49You see, like, slashed on her knee.
12:50It's just in a year.
12:51Okay.
12:52And then there's a big ass sword, right as you walk into the room.
12:53The guy's like, I'm going to go inside.
12:54I'm going to go inside.
12:55So I call contact, I close the door, open it.
12:56No one's answering, so we break the door down, and she's like, oh shit.
12:57The suspect's boyfriend is the one that called him.
12:58No, it's a 40-one that called him.
12:59The third party, 10-40-one called him.
13:00The guy's mom.
13:01The mom's like, I have no idea what happened.
13:02This one's acting a little like weird.
13:03We're not seeing anything.
13:04So there's a container, cool.
13:06They go inside the garage and find the water.
13:09You see, like, slashed on her knee.
13:11It's just in a year.
13:12Okay.
13:13And then there's a big ass sword, right as you walk into the, to the right on the dresser
13:17and then there's blood stains all over the bed.
13:19Okay.
13:20Did we knock at the next door neighbor, see if anyone heard anything?
13:24Let's cross that off the list, so that's done.
13:26See if we get anyone that heard anything, and then we can take everyone back.
13:29We'll knock out our interviews, get our paper, come do our search, and then we can let go of the scene.
13:32Detective Vigil and his team go on to get further information from neighbors.
13:37This, alongside the primary officer's account, gives him a solid report to go off of.
13:42Kiara, Isaac, and the victim, Grace, had all individually dated each other at different periods.
13:48Grace and Kiara had a toxic relationship, and quickly turned into enemies after their breakup.
13:53Isaac had also previously dated Grace, but had a dramatic breakup after just days of being together.
13:59Isaac was 20, and Grace was just 16, during their relationship.
14:04During Isaac's ride to the station, he explained to officers that he had invited Grace to Kiara's house,
14:10because she had no place to stay for the night.
14:12Lastly, Vigil was informed that just a day earlier, Isaac had been charged with domestic battery against Kiara.
14:19The specifics were unclear, but these suspicious details would leave Vigil on high alert going into his interrogations.
14:27But before we continue, it's worth noting that covering stories like this, you realize just how much people are forced to carry.
14:33Fear, trauma, even the day-to-day burden of surviving.
14:37And sometimes, that weight shows up in other ways too, like debt.

15:57With that said, let's get back to the investigation.
16:01Back at the station, Vigil begins his day with Isaac.
16:04This is no accident.
16:06By questioning him first, the detective hopes to build a foundation of incriminating details,
16:11ammunition for the real confrontation still to come.
16:15I have no reason to believe you to be a suspect right now or anything like that.
16:18We're going to take the handcuffs off.
16:19Is that okay with you?
16:20Yes.
16:21Okay.
16:22Well, just because that response is kind of new or developing, and like I said, we don't really know fully what's going on.
16:31I do want to advise you of your constitutional rights before we talk at all.
16:35So.
16:36Detective Vigil wastes no time in assuring Isaac he's not a suspect.
16:40But that statement is a calculated lie.
16:43As we know, Isaac had been charged with domestic battery against Kiara, a violent pattern that Vigil was already aware of.
16:50Combined with earlier details, they had every reason to view him as a suspect.
16:55Still, their strategy was clear.
16:57Avoid confrontation, keep Isaac at ease, and let him talk.
17:02So, the only thing I ask is for truthfulness.
17:05I'm going to be upfront with you, I'm going to be truthful with you.
17:07I just ask that you do the same to me in return, okay?
17:10Just tell me the truth and tell me everything that happened, alright?
17:13Okay.
17:14Where does, so, because it's Lani McCauley's house, does she live there or does she live somewhere else?
17:22She lives there.
17:23Okay.
17:24In the main house.
17:25And when you say the main house, what do you mean by that?
17:27The main house, um, there's a garage in the backyard that's separated from the main house.
17:32It would be, wow.
17:35If I gave you a paper and a pen, draw it out for me.
17:40Show me, show me where Jaguar Drive is, show me where the house is.
17:45The house sits in a quiet neighborhood on Jaguar Drive.
17:49Kiara and Isaac live in a makeshift room in the home's outdoor garage, while Kiara's mother stays in the main house.
17:56After mapping out the layout and where everything happened, the conversation shifts to the murder itself.
18:02This is when Isaac describes the chilling moment he found Grace's lifeless body in the garage.
18:09Um, how long have you been living in the garage?
18:12A year and a half.
18:15Okay.
18:16Let's bring ourselves to today.
18:18And I want you to kind of tell me in your own memory what happened from that time all the way to getting here to this interview.
18:26So from the time it began would be yesterday we started, we were all hanging out.
18:33Night time came around.
18:34We started falling asleep.
18:36Kali did not fall asleep.
18:38I had told, I was talking to Grace, who was in the garage as well.
18:43I said, uh, we have to go, um, she's, she's told telling us we need to leave.
18:52And I left the main house to go use the restroom for the last time.
18:57And then I walked in back into the garage.
19:01She walks up and goes, I did it.
19:04With a smile on her face.
19:07And I looked at the ground and I was like, so I called my mom immediately to let her know that something happened.
19:16My mom proceeded to call 911.
19:19Really scared because I've witnessed, sorry.
19:23It's okay.
19:24I've witnessed my friend getting shot.
19:28So my-
19:30Separately from this.
19:31Yes.
19:32It was a while back.
19:33And I was sitting in the back seat.
19:35Gotta walk.
19:36His brains out.
19:38They landed on me.
19:39I had to testify in court.
19:41And I'm, anything like this gets me super traumatized.
19:48And it's a traumatic event.
19:50I can imagine.
19:51So when I went back in the garage and I saw her in the ground, on the ground, I couldn't say anything.
19:57Because I was like, this is another one of my friends gone.
20:03I keep losing friends left and right.
20:06I'm scared right now.
20:08After recounting this morning, Isaac would go on to explain why Grace was sleeping at that house.
20:14It does not include the fact that the two females were in an ongoing feud.
20:18Instead pretending they were all cordial friends.
20:21Kiara would provide a polar opposite recount in her interrogation.
20:26But before Detective Vigil gets to her, he has one final question for Isaac.
20:31How did you know that Kiara didn't want you guys there anymore?
20:35She woke up.
20:36Well, she woke up from what she said.
20:39She slept.
20:40But she was awake the whole time.
20:43And she turned over and told me, you guys need to get out.
20:47I don't want you guys here.
20:49It was really freaking me out.
20:51So I was trying to get out.
20:52I was in and out of the room.
20:54Trying to contact my mom to pick me up to get me out of there.
20:57What time did you guys wake up at?
20:59What time did you wake up at?
21:00I woke up at about 7.50.
21:03At what time did Kiara tell you you guys had to leave?
21:05She told us we had to leave at about 8.30.
21:09Okay.
21:10And between 8.30 and to the time your mom called 911, kind of what happened in there?
21:17But when I packed my stuff, I went inside the house, which was a stupid mistake for me
21:22to go in the house, use the bathroom, and then come back and see what I saw.
21:26After you peed, you went immediately back to the garage?
21:29Yes.
21:30So around what time would you say that was at?
21:3211.47.
21:33I think we got the call a little after 1.30.
21:35Yes.
21:36Kind of an hour and a half gap there.
21:38Was there a long period of time that you and Kiara were trying to figure out what was going to happen?
21:44There was a long period of time.
21:47It was when I was standing on the side of the garage.
21:50Tell me about that.
21:52I was hyperventilating.
21:55Then I made the call to my mom.
21:57My mom made the call.
21:59I know I should have been the one to call.
22:01I feel like I'm going to pass out.
22:04Just take some deep breaths.
22:07I need a little break if that's okay with you.
22:09I'll be using the restroom real quick.
22:11Sound good?
22:12Sounds good.
22:13Alright.
22:14If it's through time, Isaac.
22:15Can you go back a bit?
22:17Throughout his interview, Isaac worked hard to portray himself as a victim.
22:22Bringing up his past, the friends he's lost, and how deeply this event has traumatized him.
22:28He likely believes he's convincing that he's playing the role well.
22:32But what Isaac doesn't realize is how quickly things are about to turn against him.
22:38By the time officers come into Kiara's interrogation room to begin the interview, she's already been left alone for more than three hours.
22:46Plenty of time to think.
22:48In that silence, she began forming a plan.
22:51Not to deny the murder outright, but to find a way to minimize her responsibility.
22:56Kiara knows there's no escaping the fact that a murder took place.
23:00The body has been found, and all evidence points directly to her.
23:05But she's not planning to walk out innocent.
23:08She's planning to walk out with a story.
23:11If she can act as though she's mentally unstable, there's a chance she'll be deemed not guilty by reason of insanity.
23:18This, in her eyes, is a much less severe outcome, which will get her back to the real world in no time.
23:25This is a common misconception.
23:28Legal insanity isn't about acting strange after arrest.
23:31It's about your mental state at the moment of the crime.
23:34Detectives record everything, and criminal psychologists are trained to spot rehearsed behavior and malingering.
23:41Even if a judge believes you are genuinely insane, you don't go home.
23:45You go to a locked forensic hospital with no fixed release date.
23:49If you aren't genuinely crippled by mental illness, the constant observation, enforced medication, and clinical evaluations become their own punishment.
23:58Kiara doesn't realize this, so she'll begin the interrogation with confidence that she can outsmart the system.
24:05Well, any idea why you're here today?
24:09I believe it's because somebody was found dead in my room.
24:12Where's your room at?
24:13In the garage.
24:14The garage?
24:15Yes.
24:16I was trying to make sure this wasn't a freaking dream again.
24:20It feels so weird.
24:22You believe someone was found dead in your room?
24:24Do you have any idea who that might be?
24:26Well, I'm really tired, but, uh, last night, Isaac invited my ex-girlfriend, Grace Jennings, who now is going by your uncle.
24:40I don't know anymore.
24:42I always knew her as Grace.
24:44Or Rose.
24:45Kiara takes no time to begin her act, alluding that she's had dreams of murder in the past.
24:51Unfortunately for her, Detective Vigil won't pick up on this, so she'll soon make another try.
24:56I was trying to sleep, but if you were talking memories for me again.
25:00Goddammit.
25:01Sorry.
25:02Who are you talking to?
25:04Um, my best guess is that I have DID, but I'm not 100% certain.
25:09What's DID?
25:10Dissociative Identity Disorder.
25:12Um, I haven't had it actually diagnosed, but that's my best guess from my research.
25:17DID is a rare but serious mental illness affecting roughly 200,000 U.S. citizens.
25:24Kiara is not a part of that 200,000, as her DID is completely self-diagnosed.
25:30Records show she had never visited a medical facility to treat this supposed illness, nor does her family recall her ever discussing it.
25:38She'll go on to explain her symptoms, which only further prove her theatrics to the detective.
25:43Um, there are different personalities that come out.
25:47Do you have names for them?
25:48Some of them, yeah.
25:49What are their names?
25:50Um, there's Abby, and, um, then there's, we call her Jinx, because she hates people saying her real name.
25:59Jinx.
26:00If you say her real name, she's mad.
26:02I see.
26:03Then there's one personality that I haven't seen in a long time.
26:10Like, I haven't communicated with her.
26:13With the, uh, uh, uh, uh.
26:15Wow, I'm tired.
26:17My name was Jess.
26:18Any other personalities?
26:20There's the little version of me, which actually responds to my biological name.
26:27She responds to Kiara?
26:28Yeah.
26:29Yeah.
26:30What do you mean by that?
26:31It's like a little kid before bad shit started happening in life.
26:42We reached out to a California-based psychiatric doctor to get his opinions on Kiara's illness.
26:47He explains that Kiara showed no evident changes in voice or personality switching during the interview,
26:53something that is extremely common with DID patients.
26:56Additionally, the descriptions of her different personalities were superficial and lacking in detail,
27:02mostly limited to generic labels rather than the rich and textured indistinctions that real DID patients involuntarily manifest.
27:10It makes sense why a professional would later deem her mentally fit to stand trial.
27:15What kind of bad stuff happened?
27:17I have a bad relationship with my mom.
27:20The reason why I never wanted to see Grace, but I pissed me off by bringing her to my house.
27:25Is she alive or dead?
27:27Grace?
27:28Yeah.
27:29You don't know?
27:30I'm not sure.
27:31What do you think?
27:33Well, I'm partially hopeful for her to be dead, but I'm also, like, confused.
27:38Like, I'm, like...
27:41Why would you hope that she's dead?
27:43Uh, I'm just angry at her, but I also have hope that she'd be better, but...
27:47It's like this frustrating emotion that I can't seem to pinpoint.
27:51Mm-hmm.
27:52Tell me about last night.
27:53What'd you do last night?
27:54So, Isaac tells me that Grace is coming over.
27:57Okay.
27:58Without asking me if it's okay.
28:01Is it okay if she comes over?
28:03It's like, she's coming over.
28:05They start talking about phones and Marvel and stuff that I don't really understand as much.
28:09Mm-hmm.
28:10I started feeling frustrated because she wasn't listening to me at all.
28:13Mm-hmm.
28:14So she stayed in the garage?
28:16Yeah.
28:17And you slept in the garage, and so did Isaac.
28:20While she and Isaac were sleeping, I was just staring at the ceiling and trying to find a comfortable spot where I could actually fall asleep.
28:26Yeah.
28:27I woke up, well, woke up, and sat up around nine or ten.
28:33Well, guys, about...
28:34Mm-hmm.
28:35The next thing I remember is going to go take a shower.
28:40Your memory is at all?
28:41Like, there's a chunk missing.
28:42I don't understand.
28:43I'm confused.
28:47Do you have a whole chunk of memory missing?
28:50Yeah.
28:51But you remember the whole night, clearly?
28:53I can't remember most.
28:55It's, like, a little foggy because I'm, like, obviously exhausted.
29:00Kiara's conveniently timed memory lapse during the hours of Grace's murder strongly suggests she's the one responsible.
29:07It almost feels deliberate, as if she's subtly acknowledging her guilt while using the moment to reinforce the idea of her mental instability.
29:15She won't come right out and confess, but she'll make it obvious it was her, as long as her supposed illness is in the same sentence.
29:24Detective Vigil knows this is nonsense, but instead of challenging her, he leans into it, encouraging her to elaborate and reveal even more inconsistencies.
29:34Unaware of this strategy, Kiara walks right into his trap.
29:38Tell me about these other personalities.
29:41What's Abby like?
29:42She's very protective.
29:43She takes control when I'm in a very dangerous situation and just says,
29:49Okay, I'm here now.
29:51I'm going to face this for you.
29:53Jinx is a troublemaker.
29:55Doesn't like people.
29:57So how does it work?
29:59So imagine you're in a house.
30:03And there's this big TV with the PS4 or Xbox or whatever.
30:09So whoever's playing the game is in charge.
30:12Sometimes you can peek over and kind of see what's going on.
30:16Sometimes this personality just decides,
30:19Oh, I'm going to go to this room that can't see the TV.
30:24Sometimes it feels like it's getting shut.
30:26While dissociative episodes are sometimes described using imagery of rooms or houses,
30:31her explanation sounds more like something taken from a movie than the words of someone truly experiencing psychological distress.
30:39Detective Visual recognizes this, but sticks to his plan.
30:43Keeping her talking, gradually letting Kiara back herself into a corner.
30:47So who, who's played the game last night?
30:50Well, I felt like I was in control for a little while and then it just kept getting really foggy like I was being thrown in a while.
31:01God damn, it hurts.
31:03You're in control, meaning froggy, right?
31:05That's who we're talking to now, froggy.
31:07Okay.
31:08But before that, you remember everything.
31:12More or less, I'm just like, I felt a lot of anger.
31:17More so than Jinx has ever had or Abby's ever had.
31:23And I don't remember Jess being like that.
31:26But she was also the one who was out more when she was with Grace.
31:30Kiara says her personality, Jess, had been out while with Grace.
31:35However, just minutes ago, she stated she hadn't seen Jess come out in years.
31:40And there's one personality that I haven't seen in a long time.
31:45And it was Jess.
31:47Unfortunately for Kiara, in the interrogation room, you can only lie for so long before things start to crumble.
31:54You said something interesting earlier.
31:56You said, um, you asked about Grace.
31:58You asked if she was okay.
32:00And you said that part of you would be okay if she was dead.
32:05Right?
32:06Yeah.
32:07Have you ever thought about hurting her or killing her?
32:09I've had a couple dreams like that.
32:11You've had a couple dreams like that?
32:12Yeah.
32:13How'd those dreams go?
32:14They were mostly right after we broke up.
32:17Sometimes I would kill her.
32:19Sometimes I would kill her.
32:20Sometimes it was just me screaming at her.
32:24And how would you kill her?
32:25Dependent on the dream.
32:27So several dreams?
32:28Yes.
32:29How many?
32:30I've had like a bunch of murder dreams, if you could call that.
32:34So there's an organization that I think is in charge of.
32:39I probably shouldn't be saying this to a cop.
32:41Well, it's called Ghost.
32:43They're like an underground version of cops in a way.
32:47But a little more intense and deadly.
32:50Kiara's explanation of her disturbing dreams shine light on a core variable in her and Isaac's crimes.
32:57Their idolization of violence.
33:00We've had to cut the next small portion of the interrogation out,
33:03because Kiara discusses detailed dreams so grim they unfortunately wouldn't be allowed on YouTube.
33:10This chilling theme can be seen across Kiara's various social media profiles,
33:14all of which are still public to this day.
33:17Her constant posts showcase a fascination for horror.
33:21Even just a day before Grace's murder,
33:24Kiara would post several demonic videos to her TikTok.
33:28These dark fascinations are things most teenagers outgrow.
33:32But for Kiara, they became reality.
33:35She speaks of an underground group called Ghost,
33:38offering few details beyond its obsession with deadly violence.
33:42Whether she mentions it to support her insanity claim,
33:45or to impress the detective is unclear.
33:48But the information is useful to the police.
33:51Detective Vigil presses further, hoping to draw out anything she's willing to give.
33:56And they get rid of people who are...
33:59in...
34:01words.
34:02In charge of trafficking,
34:04in charge of...
34:05anything that has to deal with hurting kids.
34:08He kept trying to tell me,
34:09just do it, and you're gonna...
34:11just...
34:12just kill her.
34:14Then you'll get ranked up.
34:15Yes.
34:16He had we join.
34:18And I'm like,
34:19I don't know what the f*** is going on.
34:21And I kept hesitating.
34:22It's like...
34:23What's that thing there?
34:24It's um...
34:25I don't see.
34:26I'm very confused,
34:27because he hasn't told me jack shit.
34:29He just gave this to me.
34:30He was like,
34:31no, you're a part of it.
34:32I'm like, okay...
34:33Sounds like an initiation tattoo, kind of.
34:36Yeah.
34:37Some ghost,
34:38an underground society of people that...
34:41kind of...
34:42their own version of cops and justice.
34:44They kind of kill bad people.
34:45And this is kind of...
34:47me trying to piece together,
34:48kind of like what you're saying,
34:49like the messages I saw too.
34:51Was Isaac trying to push you...
34:53to kill...
34:54Grace?
34:55Yeah.
34:56I mean...
34:57I had my dagger in my hand,
34:58and...
34:59and I kept going...
35:00and then just stopped.
35:01Like...
35:02I felt a little kid's hand hold me back.
35:05Like it was Kiara telling me,
35:07don't, don't.
35:08Don't.
35:10The moment Detective Vigil gives Kiara the opportunity to blame Isaac for the murder,
35:15she takes it.
35:16Bringing up details about Isaac's underground organization,
35:20as well as his repeated pressure for her to kill Grace.
35:23And while Kiara has been caught in a web of lies up until this point,
35:27her remarks about Isaac would turn out to be nearly completely honest.
35:31Detective Vigil has achieved everything he could have wanted from this interrogation,
35:35so he decides to end things,
35:37leaving Kiara to spend the night in jail.
35:40His focus now is on Isaac,
35:42and trying to hone in on how implicated he actually was in this murder.
35:47So before returning from his break,
35:49Vigil and his partner would devise a plan.
35:52Police confiscated his phone while being detained earlier that day.
35:55Traditionally, to gain access to the phone involves a multi-month process involving warrants and various subpoenas.
36:02However, if they can get Isaac to sign a consent form,
36:05they can gain access to his phone immediately and observe his reaction in real time as they read his messages.
36:12With this plan in mind, Detective Vigil, along with his partner, would return back to Isaac's interrogation room.
36:19Hey Isaac, so I have your cell phone.
36:21I know our cell phones are very important to us,
36:23because we have pretty much all our personal information on them and everything.
36:26Given that there were kind of messages and stuff,
36:29and this is still an active investigation,
36:31there is reason for that there is potentially evidence on your phone.
36:35So one way or another we are going to have to look at the data on the phone.
36:38And it's just a fancy form and a fancy way of saying that you're giving us permission to extract the data from your phone
36:44and only look at things pertaining to this case.
36:47Right here, quick?
36:48Yeah, sign right there, please.
36:50And the phone password?
36:51There's no password.
36:52No password.
36:53Just a quick swipe up and answer.
36:56Okay.
36:57The plan works surprisingly well.
37:01Isaac seems to be completely oblivious of what he just signed.
37:05Ironically, this very signature will most likely seal his fate in court,
37:10exposing countless deeply disturbing messages with Kiara.
37:14Um, okay, messages.
37:16Did you have any messages between you and Grace?
37:18Instagram.
37:19Instagram, okay.
37:20Okay, so this is kind of when everything started.
37:22Hey, I got kicked out, and she's telling everyone to leave her house.
37:25I'm going to head to my fam's place.
37:28First of all, who?
37:30Second, my mom can only come get me at 3.30.
37:33Why is she kicking you out, and does she know I'm here?
37:37Wait a minute.
37:39I thought...
37:41I thought you guys all hung out the night before.
37:46We did.
37:47Grace actually thought she was being snuck into the home without Kiara knowing.
37:52Clearly, the two were planning something that Grace was unaware of.
37:57Isaac completely freezes as his lies finally begin to catch up to him.
38:02You'll notice Isaac go into this panicked state often in the next 25 minutes,
38:07because this is the first of many more blatant lies detectives would find.
38:12So, how come she doesn't know she's there?
38:16I was very confused, and I told her...
38:19She's kicking me out because you're here and she knows it.
38:22Did she not know she was there?
38:24Because that's what it looks like.
38:25She knew she was there.
38:27Then why is it looking like in these messages?
38:29She knew she was there and acting like she didn't know where she was.
38:34And that was the part that threw me off.
38:36It was like, she's kicking us out.
38:38Why is she kicking you out, and how does she know I'm here?
38:41I'm like, we discussed this.
38:44Okay.
38:45Where are your messages with Kiara?
38:47They're gonna be in Messenger.
38:49Oh, okay.
38:50She says she is leaving at 3.30.
38:54What would you like me to do?
38:57Stab her?
38:58I don't know.
38:59I don't have the energy to do shit.
39:01I am fake getting thrown out.
39:03You're getting fake thrown out.
39:04Yes.
39:05That's usually how it happens.
39:07I get told to leave.
39:08Mm-hmm.
39:09And five days later, she tells me to come back.
39:12Uh-huh.
39:13Unless I ask your mom to give me a ride to Target and you do what is needed.
39:18What do you mean you do what is needed?
39:20I have no clue.
39:21From this on, from beyond here, I don't know what's going on.
39:25You don't know what's going on?
39:26But these are messages from you?
39:29There are, um, I do have another cell phone to tell you guys about, but it's still over
39:36there at the house.
39:37So you didn't send these messages?
39:39Or you did?
39:40On this, from down on, no.
39:43Everything Isaac is saying is a terribly orchestrated act.
39:48Moments of clear incrimination like this are often considered the critical moments of
39:53an interrogation.
39:54It's the point in which every decision the detective makes can be the difference between
39:58a complete confession or a failed session with the suspect.
40:02Isaac's nervous behavior indicates he knows things are slipping out of control.
40:06So Detective Vigil makes the smart decision to give up the nice cop act and start pressing
40:11for answers.
40:12Isaac, this is getting really weird, man.
40:14I have a second phone.
40:15You have a second phone?
40:17Yes.
40:18Where is that phone?
40:19That's at the house.
40:20Okay.
40:21It is logged into the same Facebook account.
40:22I don't know, man.
40:23These messages look a lot like there's some conspiring going on, some planning going on.
40:29From that point where I was telling you from.
40:32Even before then, it sounds like you guys are planning something.
40:35You're fake getting thrown out and what?
40:37I say fake getting thrown out like I said was.
40:40Do you want to start over?
40:42Because I'm, I'm really confused with everything that's going on.
40:46Like you're telling me you have two phones now and those other messages aren't you.
40:52And it's, what you're telling me, your statement, isn't lighting up with these messages.
40:57Isaac's demeanor has shifted drastically from just minutes prior.
41:01He knows how poorly things have just gotten for him.
41:04Now, I told you at the beginning of this talk that we need to be, we need to be truthful
41:08with this, right?
41:09Yes.
41:10I am being truthful.
41:11I do have a secondary phone.
41:12And I'm telling you the messages, not me.
41:17They're from Kiara to using my Facebook, from me to Kiara.
41:23But I can't quite explain how it looks.
41:27Kiara to Kiara?
41:29Yes.
41:30Why would she do that?
41:31She's told me that she's wanting to ruin my life.
41:33Dagger because it's blunt?
41:35What does that mean?
41:36She was asking, she asked me a question in the room, like what, what is the difference
41:41between the dagger and the sword?
41:43Okay.
41:44And I messaged dagger because it's-
41:46Why is blunt better?
41:48She says, you say it cuts like butter.
41:50She says, just gonna stab the throat.
41:53Is that what she's trying to say?
41:54The thot.
41:55Just gonna stab the thot.
41:57Yes.
41:58Instant or will it take long?
42:00What does she mean?
42:01Instant.
42:02What do we do about the mess?
42:04We burn it and I'll buy new blankets in bed.
42:07What's going on here, Isaac?
42:10She said stab, just gonna stab the thot.
42:13And I thought the thot like, oh, like she was poking the thot that was in her head about
42:20her dagger.
42:21Okay.
42:22Well, what about the mess?
42:23What mess?
42:24A poop.
42:25A poop kind of mess?
42:26A poop kind of mess?
42:27Can you help this time?
42:28Yes.
42:29I am just waiting for you to make the first move.
42:32What does she mean I'm waiting for you to make the first move?
42:35She will wait till sleep.
42:37Shall we wait till sleep?
42:39So you guys slept in a bed full of poop?
42:41Yes.
42:42Remember when you told me don't be a poopy when I kissed you?
42:45Yeah, yeah, yeah, brat.
42:46We will have to take care of the mess.
42:48I thought she already pooped herself.
42:50What mess are you guys taking care of?
42:52I don't know.
42:53I can't tell if she's falling asleep.
42:56It feels like it.
42:57Her feet are on my side.
42:59I wish you'd make the first move for once.
43:02Remember, you'll move up the ranks plus you get perks in the black market since this is your first.
43:08Your first what?
43:10She-
43:11Isaac, what the hell happened?
43:12I can see the messages.
43:13I'm not done.
43:14This isn't the first time I've done this.
43:16What is happening?
43:17She was planning on killing Grace.
43:19I just didn't want a part of it.
43:21It doesn't seem like you're trying to talk her out of it.
43:24I was only sending messages back in agreeance as I turned my back towards.
43:32This isn't agreeance.
43:34Remember, you'll move up in ranks plus you get perks in the black market since this is your first.
43:38This sounds like you're encouraging her.
43:40Right.
43:41The messages are here, dude.
43:43I know.
43:44I know.
43:45Did you help Kiara do this?
43:47No.
43:48No.
43:49No.
43:50But you knew it was going to happen.
43:51I knew it was going to happen.
43:53You knew it was going to happen.
43:54Kiara planned it out.
43:55Kiara planned it out.
43:56When?
43:57How long had this been a plan for?
43:59She had planned it out since 2020.
44:03Kiara planned to kill Grace since 2020.
44:06And then last night, Grace messages you looking for a place to stay.
44:11And that's the opportunity for this?
44:14I didn't see it as an opportunity.
44:16I saw it as an opportunity more like, let's squash everything.
44:20Then why are you saying you'll make it up the ranks plus your perks in the black market since this is your first?
44:26Because you're talking about killing her.
44:28You're right?
44:29I was...
44:30What else could this mean?
44:32I was trying to talk about something else because I'm trying to get my mind off.
44:36Isaac really?
44:37You're trying to talk about something else there?
44:40Yes.
44:41I don't know.
44:42How do I aim?
44:44How do I aim right?
44:45Just aim.
44:46Tell me what you're talking about there.
44:48That's Call of Duty.
44:49That's Call of Duty.
44:51Tell me when.
44:52Okay, I'll give a count.
44:53Six, five, I can't yet dude.
44:55Four, I'm shaking dude.
44:56I know.
44:57I lose the nervous.
44:59Help me drive it through.
45:02Help me drive it through.
45:04She was asking me to do.
45:06To stab her?
45:07Yes.
45:08Help me drive the dagger through.
45:10Grace.
45:11Anger me.
45:13I'm going to pretend to sleep so it looks non-conspicuous.
45:17Tell me about all that.
45:18Those are not my messages because.
45:21Help me.
45:22Just do it.
45:23Be ready to grab her or a trash bag.
45:25She is your list.
45:27Don't tell me this isn't you messaging.
45:29I know this is you messaging.
45:31Be transparent and tell me what's going on here.
45:34She had talked to me and said, um, so what now?
45:40And I was like, this is going to be your first way out.
45:44If you just leave this alone.
45:46You're edging her to do this.
45:48Come on, Isaac.
45:49Isaac.
45:50Look at all these messages, man.
45:52You're going to sit here and tell me.
45:53You're going to look me in the eye and you're going to tell me that you were trying to talk
45:57her out of this.
45:58I can see right here.
45:59You're telling her to do it.
46:01I wish you would just stop with all the, what I feel like is you trying to figure out
46:06lies every message we go through.
46:08If things will be a lot better for you moving on.
46:10If you just come out and you cooperate, you tell us everything that happened.
46:13Tell us the truth.
46:14Tell us everything.
46:15It'll be better for you.
46:16Would I be able to talk to you privately?
46:18Yes.
46:19You want her to leave?
46:20Yes.
46:21All right.
46:22Kick it.
46:23Isaac would request to have a private conversation with Detective Vigil, which he would oblige
46:28to.
46:29Based on police reports, Isaac would go on to admit to sending all the text messages and
46:34confess he wanted Grace dead all along, although remaining stern that he was not directly involved
46:40in the actual killing.
46:42Later that week, detectives would go on to interview both Kiara's mother as well as Isaac's.
46:47This killing came as a complete shock to everyone, who were completely unaware of the
46:53dark path their children had been going down.
46:56It sheds light on the importance of closely monitoring your children as you never know
47:00what's going on in their lives.
47:02At least, not fully.
47:04Both Kiara and Isaac were charged with first-degree murder.
47:08At first, it seemed as though Kiara's plan had worked, as a judge found her incompetent
47:13to stand trial and sent her to the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute.
47:17However, a month later, she was deemed competent by professionals and returned back to the Santa Fe
47:22County Jail.
47:24In February 2025, Kiara pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and agreed to testify against Isaac.
47:31Prosecutors say the crime's brutality could still bring up to 30 years.
47:35Isaac initially took a plea, then in November 2024, fired his lawyers, voided the deal, and
47:42pled not guilty.
47:44Now, with a new legal team that needs to get up to speed, the start date for Isaac's trial
47:49has been pushed back once more.
47:51If found guilty, he'll likely be facing similar penalties as Kiara.
47:55They'll likely be behind bars until 2055.
