00:52Hello, welcome to From the South.
00:54I'm Sophie Fernandez from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:57We'll begin with the news, stay with us.
01:11The Honduran Public Persecutor's Office announced legal action after the results of the November
01:1630th January elections were announced.
01:18Persecutor Joel Zelaya affirmed that the Public Persecutor's Office acted in accordance with
01:22the constitution and democratic order by not intervening or interrupting the electoral
01:27process.
01:28However, in the context of an election marked by allegations of irregularities, the authorities
01:33stated that the appropriate legal mechanism will be activated to clarify the truth about
01:38the events that occurred during the electoral process.
01:41Zelaya also reiterated that no act that violates the will or sovereignty of the people will go
01:46unpunished and that the investigations aim to prevent these events from being repeated in the future.
01:59Moving on to Bolivia.
02:00The Central Workers Union reaffirmed the continuation of protests on the 10th day of action in rejection
02:05of Decree 5503, which eliminates the fuel subsidies.
02:10The organization states that the indefinite strike and marches has spread to different cities in the
02:16plurinational state, demanding the repeal of the supreme decree promoted by the government of Raldío Paz.
02:22The trade union group declares that it will maintain the broad participation of all members who support
02:28this rejection on the imposition of neoliberal measures.
02:32In this scenario, the workers also reiterated that it is unaware of the alleged invitation from the
02:37national government to participate in the dialogue.
02:48The government of Nicaragua celebrates the 67th anniversary of Fidel Castro's triumph entry into Havana, Cuba.
02:54This event marked a significant moment for revolutionaries in America and the Caribbean and around the world.
03:00In a statement, the Nicaraguan entity noted,
03:03In this year of the centenary of our commanded Fidel, the popular Sandinista revolution pays homage to him,
03:10to Raúl, to his heroic, dignified and victorious people.
03:14It concludes with,
03:15In all times and moments, Nicaraguan and Nicaraguans recognize with pride, art and part of the genius of Fidel,
03:22who left us amid all the challenges, the duty to continue building the future.
03:26In Colombia, the department of Valle del Cauca is under a severe weather alert,
03:46following reports of heavy rains in at least 13 municipalities.
03:49The rainy season has raised river laws and saturated the soil, triggering a series of incidents that require a coordinated response
03:57and active citizens' participation.
03:59Recent and persistent rainfall have tested the infrastructure and resilience of several localities of Valle del Cauca,
04:05while phenomena such as flash floods, urban and rural flooding, as well as small landslides,
04:10are the tangible manifestations of an increasingly unpredictable climate.
04:15In view of the situation, local authorities explained that the topography of the Valle del Cauca,
04:21with its mountain areas and flood valleys, contribute to the variability of the impacts.
04:30For its part, Chile is saying goodbye to 2025 with an intense heatwave marked by record temperatures in most of the central part of the country.
04:38This scenario coincides with an increased risk of forest fires spreading,
04:42which has led to repeated pleas from authorities to citizens to act responsibly after declaring a red alert.
04:48In this context, they urge the population to take extreme preemptive measures,
04:53considering the year-end holidays, a period that traditionally involves greater mobility,
04:58outdoor activities and the use of potentially dangerous items.
