Liam Dart on Bude Town's victory over Holsworthy.
Transcript
00:00We're here with Bewtown assistant boss Liam Dark following today's Boxing Day victory over
00:05Holsby.
00:06Liam, what were your thoughts?
00:07Well, it was a very scrappy game.
00:10Not a lot between the two sides really overall, not played in the middle of the pitch.
00:15No one really put their foot on the ball and played any football, which was disappointing
00:19but at the same time, the pitch was bobbly, it didn't really allow for the team to play
00:23too much.
00:24On a balance of play, we had a couple of chances, Tornado particularly had one where he rolled
00:29the defender and skied over in the second half and won which he should have shot and
00:33he cut inside.
00:34I'm not sure Ty had a safe to make as such, they had a chance in the first half, which Ty
00:40did get down to but it wasn't a difficult save to make, there wasn't really a lot in it to
00:45be honest.
00:46And then obviously your winning goal came from a throw in, dropped to Dylan and he followed
00:52it straight in the top corner, the only piece of quality in the game room.
00:58In the first half, like you say, there wasn't a lot to talk about, what was the chat at
01:02half-time to try and get yourselves on top?
01:05I felt that if we were 15 minutes to go, we were a bit far off.
01:09In the second half, we didn't get tight enough, they were probably first, the first and second
01:14balls.
01:15Half-time was about us being tight enough, getting closer.
01:19And then trying to be more composed on the ball and try and play.
01:22We didn't play a little bit in the second half but we still want to play football like
01:25we should play.
01:26And you know, that's partly down to numerous reasons.
01:31A, a bit of composure.
01:33B, obviously put you under pressure all the time.
01:36They play a high-tempered game where they play on top of you and try and play in your
01:39half as much as they can.
01:41So it doesn't allow for time on the ball.
01:43So there's a number of reasons for it.
01:45But you know, it's three points.
01:47That's the main thing.
01:48That's what we've got.
01:49Any decent individual performances?
01:51I think if you're looking at any individual performances, it's work rate as opposed to anything else.
01:56You know, I felt our midfield worked hard throughout.
02:00Jamie Gorton's second half had a good half.
02:03First half, he struggled and second half, he really stepped up.
02:07And obviously didn't produce a moment of magic at the end.
02:11But overall, I didn't feel like we were ever going to concede.
02:15But at the same time, it was looking hard to see where a goal was going to come from equally,
02:19especially when Tornado blasted the one over from close range.
02:24And the one that he probably should have finished the first time when he took a touch.
02:29Yeah, there wasn't really anything in the game.
02:31So there wasn't really anybody that I'd say stood out.
02:34Okay, and that victory back to back after beating Camelford,
02:38and then that sort of takes you up towards the top six.
02:40Is that sort of the target for the rest of the season?
02:42Or is it a case of sort of taking on a game by game basis?
02:45Our aim was to finish better than we did last year.
02:47We've obviously improved the score with the quality of players coming in.
02:50We've had a quality room to bring off the bench.
02:52With Dylan and Jamie and Aaron coming off the bench.
02:55And then obviously Tornado was signed this year.
02:58So we've improved the quality.
03:00We were able to finish better than we did last year.
03:03And eventually, if he is the top six, that would be fantastic.
03:07And realistically, where we're going to be, eighth or seventh, as opposed to anything else.
03:13But we've just got to keep really getting into football and trying to play for him as much as we can.
03:18There's no pinch of it.
03:20But yeah, he's trying to do the right things all the time and keep improving.
03:24And you have just over a week now before you welcome Weybridge.
03:28How do you go about preparing for that one and what are your thoughts on that?
03:30That's a game we should have bought away.
03:31We didn't.
03:32We were really poor.
03:33We were really poor.
03:34We got a point.
03:35And we've got to be going into the Weybridge game after beating Hamilton in particular.
03:39Then obviously Holes will beat.
03:41Two teams are both above us.
03:43We've got to be looking to try and get three points again.
03:45Especially being at home against Weybridge.
03:47What sort of game you expected against him?
03:49Well, Flak and his team are always trying to play football.
03:52So they'll try and retain the ball.
03:54They'll try and be patient with the ball.
03:56We've got to be better on the ball.
03:58We've got to be not better on the ball.
04:00And we've never taken the final thirds.
04:03So we've got to be more clinical.
04:05But yeah.
