24 December - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your Christmas Eve weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's turning chilly already outside, whether it's the frost in the north in shelter spots towards the west
00:10or this cold icy wind extending from Poland, Belgium towards the UK.
00:16You can see these blues representing that frost and those winds really picking up some strength.
00:21So expect a significant wind chill into Christmas Day.
00:25But as that wind, which will be strong, hops over the hills, the mountains, the moors along the coastline,
00:31we will see gusts up to 55, 65 miles an hour.
00:35So there could be some impacts associated with that, particularly if you are along the coastline with high waves.
00:42Now through Boxing Day, high pressure sits still across Scotland.
00:46A lighter breeze here through the next 48 hours and the winds slowly ease further south and southwest.
00:52Still a bit gusty though, over the higher ground.
00:56For the time being, there's a fair amount of cloud just coming and going across England and Wales,
01:00the far north of Scotland as well.
01:02Under starry skies though, you'll see a widespread frost across mainland Scotland.
01:06Pockets of frost also for Northern Ireland and shelter towards the west there.
01:11But that wind picking up strength and that cloud just sliding its way down towards more western areas.
01:16Here are your warning zones into the early hours of Christmas Day morning.
01:20It's a cold start wherever you are and frosty for some.
01:24So first thing, if you are stepping outside, remember to wrap up warm.
01:29The strength of the wind or the frost or a bit of both to be honest.
01:33And through the day, that cloud, which could actually be a bit stubborn through the morning,
01:37will break, allowing for some brighter skies to come through.
01:40So we are expecting some sunny spells as we head through Christmas Day.
01:44A good day to be out and about with that sunshine.
01:46But as I said, it will be cold outside.
01:49Strong winds continue into evening time as well as that frost returns to central and northern areas of Scotland.
01:56And through the day, temperatures struggling to 7, 8 degrees Celsius at the very best.
02:01But add on the strength of the wind, it's going to feel colder than that.
02:03Christmas Day evening and overnight, well, still gusty towards the west and southwest.
02:10That frost, as I said, fairly widespread across much of Scotland.
02:14And we'll see frost returning elsewhere as well into Boxing Day morning.
02:19But at least though, through the first part of the day, it's dry with some sunny spells.
02:23A bit more clouds across central and southern areas of England and Wales.
02:28Still a brisk wind coming in from the east-northeast.
02:31And that cloud could just affect the east coast of Scotland as well as northeast England.
02:36Saturday, we are chasing cloud.
02:38It could be stubborn in places towards the north.
02:40Temperatures struggling a little bit, 7 or 8 degrees Celsius.
02:44Into Sunday, it's a similar situation.
02:46Some brighter breaks are possible.
02:48Still rather chilly outside.
02:50For more details, just stay tuned to our social media channels
