00:56embraced this organization and she brought it to life. When I got to the Buccaneers Jill Hobbs did
01:02just about everything. She almost ran this place. She helped the scouting department. She was Ron
01:07Wolf's number one person. She knew players as well as anybody else and better than that
01:12she was a winner. Back in the heyday she ran the scoreboard. Yeah I saw you throwing down. No! She would take
01:21no shit and just get the job done. Oh bump your head and hit it. Whenever you want to know anything about
01:28history you went to her because she saw it all firsthand. We didn't have the big weight room so
01:32the weights were like on the patio. Every morning I'd be out there working out. Jill come out have a
01:39cigarette. I'd give her a hard time about her smoking a cigarette while I'm trying to work out.
01:43She'd get fired up, tail me off, or cuss me out. Most of all Jill was a friend. Jill is the type of
01:53person to just call you and let you know you're loved. When Jill died it happened fast. You heard
01:59the news that she had cancer. 30 days over it was over. Like it was that fast. At the end of the day
02:07before she passed we were getting ready to go to the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers.
02:14All right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right. And I called her to check on her and she put it in the only way that Jill Hobbs could put it.

02:28This is only the fourth time in franchise history that the Bucs have made it to the NFC Championship game.
02:40You'd love to be the first team ever to host a Super Bowl. Getting ready to go to Green Bay and play, they're hanging

13:06this is for the community for all those bucks fans that have been there from the beginning that
13:11never ever lost faith this is unbelievable unbelievable moment we did it we're here at home
13:18with the super bowl 55 years of super bowls and it's the first time ever that a team plays a home
13:24game in their home stadium it's gonna be total domination the super bowl is in our home stadium
13:29and it was something that we would gun it for all year and for it to finally happen it was just surreal
13:35super bowl sunday coming up and chiefs quarterback patrick mahomes uh says that uh well the chiefs
13:42can adopt just about anything the buccaneers can throw at them i just remember the vibe they had
13:46that week and recognizing that you know todd bowles had learned something about the kansas city chiefs
13:52when they played them earlier that year we played kansas city and we knew tyreek hill was fast we didn't
13:58know how fast you want a deep ball here it is to hill for the touchdown down the field who else hill
14:07we realized we can't play man we got to go zone and we went to kind of a shell coverage and kind of
14:11changed some things up from the start of the second quarter and it ended up being a close ball game
14:16but right after that game i said if i ever play these guys again i know exactly what i would do
14:22it was really the location of where tyreek hill was going to be where kelsey was going to be and where
14:28mccall hartman was going to be whether it was three by one or two by two they had telltale signs of
14:34what they would and wouldn't run when i presented it usually there's a lot of feedback going back and
14:42forth with all the coaches and nobody said a word i said either i'm very crazy or this is going to work
14:48out great for us defensive play of the night game when the blitzing all-america todd bowles hit the
14:56water back todd was captain for me at temple back in 86 when i was head coach there i would have
15:03never thought from broad street in philadelphia in 1986 to 2020 that todd and i would be in a super
15:09ball together but i know one thing i had the best guy going that could possibly be to shut down the
15:14kansas city chiefs get a little more physical with these guys and re-rattle them and put them in
15:19that i was born and raised in elizabeth new jersey i grew up in downtown projects called 26a pioneer
15:27homes and i fell in love with football at a very young age there wasn't much else to do down there
15:33but play football or do drugs or gamble so football was a big outlet for me i was a big richard woods
15:40fan because he's from my hometown and we went to the same high school so i kind of followed him
15:45uh from that standpoint so it was really huge for us to see richard woods doing that and i kind of
15:51caught on the doug by watching richard and doug is the sole responsibility i'm sitting here in coaching
15:58today i gave his first coaching job at mohouse college i begged him to come and be my defensive
16:05coordinator free safety todd bowles 86 i signed with the redskins as a free agent and doug was just
16:12finishing up in the usfl he came in 86 as well we lived about a mile and a half down the street from
16:18each other and we would go against each other and practice every day and we developed a very close
16:24relationship there years later doug was a scout for jacksonville i was a scout for green bay but
16:29we both had the east coast so i ran into him every week so he asked me he said he was going to get the
16:34head job at moorehouse and he asked me to be his defensive coordinator i asked him why me can get
16:39anybody he wants he said no he wanted me watched me in practice every day so i was the guy for the
16:44job so i got the job with doug at morehouse college and he went to follow me to grammar he was for a year
16:50grammar he was my defensive coordinator and i look at him now doing one heck of a job here in tampa
17:01are you ready yet here we are kick off a second away this is a matchup that we're going to be
17:07talking about i think for a long time the most surreal moment for me came thinking about my dad
17:12he passed away the year before and we always had talked about if i could become a general manager and
17:17go to a super bowl and win a super bowl and you know those were my dreams and he he always talked
17:23about those things with me so i'm sitting on the bench i was texting with my some family members
17:29had my head down and all of a sudden i look up and brady's standing right in front of me gave me a
17:35wink and he said this is going to be a great day jay that moment for me is probably one that i will
17:41never forget you get to the culmination of the season the super bowl and you dream of what it's
17:47like to be there and here you are you're about 25 minutes from the game starting and it's kind of the
17:52last chance to remind everyone what we're playing for brady didn't speak all year he never said anything
17:59pre-game poke game he never really said anything he said guys i got something to say and we all
18:04huddled around him and it's like you could hear a pin drop in there it was dead silent everyone's eyes
18:08were on time oh my gosh i'm getting i'm getting juiced up and he had that look in his eye that look
18:14that we saw all season that he's ready to go to war that level of intentionality and excitement for
18:21someone who's already done it so many times that's contagious and it was a simple message this is about
18:27honor your whole family and yourself will be remembered for how you play today to win that
18:33game changes not just your life it changes the life of everybody that's been associated with you
18:40to hear that from him just solidified who we are as a team and why we're here we could be that
18:46super bowl 55 championship team nobody could ever take that away from you i felt like he was just saving
18:51that speech for the right time because that was one of those movie scripts it was an unbelievably powerful
18:59message it was about letting the guys know that honor is what that game is about and you're honored
19:09your family's honored your kids are honored and everybody that's made the sacrifice for you
19:15your entire career to play the game you love and do what you love gets to share
19:21in the same excitement everybody looked around after like

19:30had only two winning seasons in the past decade hadn't won a playoff game since
19:34winning the super bowl back in 02 this could be one for the ages
19:38the weight of that game is impossible to ignore
19:54my legs were like trembling a little bit that that stress is real

20:20they were like predicting that they were going to go back to back and like
20:24i was kind of disrespectful right from the 45

23:56as time goes on people forget of covid and the world just coming apart you don't even know if
24:01you're going to have a season let alone a super bowl the sports world just shut down we have some
24:08new numbers tonight that highlight the hardest hit areas in tampa bay that whole season and i've said
24:15this to many people all the time when i say i still feel like it was very surreal it was covid and it was
24:22a very weird time the first responders during covid were incredible they were risking their lives and
24:32doing everything so everybody else in the community could function properly
24:35and so we thought it was really important to include them at the super bowl we were limited to
24:4325 000 people at the stadium but we made sure that those first responders were included as part of that
24:49group be able to uplift our community it was it was really really unbelievable that intensity lent itself
25:01to bringing the team together and really one team one cause to win a super bowl the buccaneers the
25:10first team to ever play in the super bowl on their home turf for kansas city it's a tall task
25:17they can do it but this is a tall task for the second half they're hard to beat at any time
25:23before that game what was the last big game patrick mahomes lost he's walking out in the second half
25:28at the super bowl down 15 he's not done edwards allaire rookie running i didn't feel like the game
25:37was over i'd seen patrick mahomes score touchdowns in 17 seconds get hill out in the open even the
25:43throws he was missing he was barely missing when he was diving and throwing the football
25:49he can beat you time and time and time and time again because you've seen it so we had to be relentless
25:54to kelsey mahomes to kelsey it connected kelsey with six of 12 mahomes completions kelsey's gonna be
26:05the guy the only thing i was hesitant about was our coverage on kelsey kelsey always went off against
26:13everybody so i'm looking like now y'all think that's enough for catching and we don't need nobody over
26:17the top or nothing we was one-on-one in kelsey the whole game and we was letting the levante take it
26:24my assignment that game was to be on travis kelsey try to minimize him as much as i can kelsey goes up
26:30and shakes people he wins all the time but david says i'm not gonna back up most people back up a
26:35half a step or with their body weight he's hitting him right there and it's really affected this offense
26:40levante may be the most underrated guy in this modern nfl era nine years overlooked no respect
26:51by the media can't get elected to the pro bowl but good what he has done for this franchise we wanted
26:57to play prison ball we wanted to go out there and smack him in the face i knew if we continued
27:02to play that way they were going to fold and they were going to break as an offensive line that was our
27:06mindset we're going to go in there we're going to break them we're going to not let them get any shred
27:11of confidence i think we got into the flow we got into the rhythm we got into the trust and all
27:18those days at berkeley paid off all that trust that we developed paid off the pressure that we put
27:24on people to succeed every day paid off and it paid off against the best team that we played all season

27:48as soon as he hits the corner he takes off that was craziness during that very moment what i was
27:55thinking about was sitting in ba's backyard having a drink saying let's don't cut lenny wow what a statement by

29:21it a bunch even more after i retired and there's one thing man a great defense can always beat a great
29:29offense always you know as a football player you always dream about going to the super bowl and
29:43having all those dreams come into fruition in that one moment everything we had gone through that entire
29:51year all the struggles the bad football the great football we worked through all of that to get to
30:02this this point right here it was it was special

30:56after the super bowl me and tom embraced i just told him thank you thank you for coming here and
31:06changing our lives and this franchise history thank you so much that's what we wanted the confetti
31:11starts to fly and my first thought was trying to find my wife let's go
31:18my and my wife have been together since we're in high school she was like you want to go over the
31:22confetti like we're kids i'm like yeah let's do it
31:40my wife and my dad came down and uh yeah it's emotional man they see you win the biggest moment
31:47like it's so special
31:53the first thought that came to my mind was when my dad was when i saw him you know we just embraced
31:59each other and that same year he passed away just for him to be able to celebrate with me that moment
32:08would never leave my memory my dad was my biggest support he deserved a lot of credit for molding me
32:14to who i am today we didn't have a car at one point so he had to ride me on the bike on the handlebars
32:19and went to practice made the practice on time and you just look back and he was there for me the whole
32:23way when my family came out of the tunnel to congratulate me and give me a hug seeing the smiles
32:32on their faces probably was one of the happiest moments ever there was text messages with me and
32:39doug how happy he was and i saw a lot of doug williams jerseys out there and they gave me a big
32:44sense of gratification there's no drug in the world you can give yourself to make you feel the way
32:52you feel after you win a supermodel knowing how hard it is and to get back there and do it was a feeling

34:27together in one moment they saw me embracing my family and i know that they were thinking of their
34:32dad the same way that i was thinking of my dad i thought about my father how how he would have enjoyed
34:39it i thought about everything he had done to help us get to this point to own this football team and that
34:45he couldn't be there yet you know he was there in spirit and without him we wouldn't be standing
34:51there my father would have been very proud of my family the organization the players the city of
34:56tampa he would have been very proud of that moment but this is great this moment if you just had this
35:01one moment that's enough for a lifetime my father had an expression if you want to know the road ahead
35:09ask the person who's been there we found that person ten super bowl appearances seven victories
35:16tom brady yes you did i'm so proud of all these guys down here i think we knew this was going to

35:29that was a week where i tried to enjoy the moment to try to soak in the moment because it is so hard it is
35:36so so hard to not only get to the super but to win it it had been 18 years since we had won our last
35:48super bowl that's a full generation ago and so what it meant to the city what it meant to my family

35:59we appreciate the players who stuck it out during losing seasons people like mike evans levante david

36:13they probably appreciate more than anybody else the lean years the years we were going 2 and 14

37:52beginning of the boat parade and we can't even move then tom comes down he's got his own boat

38:05our daughter zoe is holding the trophy and i looked at my wife and i said
38:08i think this is the greatest day of my life besides of course you know the day we got married and the
38:15day that we had kids and then she said no this is better than all of that we had to pull this whole
38:22thing together in 48 hours and then getting the word out in in basically one day the result was you're
38:29going crazy
38:36i have the trophy all the tight ends were on one boat and they kept going hey throw the trophy
38:44and after probably eight shots of tequila i was like that seems like a good idea
38:52you ready i was getting ready to cock it back one two we're kind of counting down and at the last
39:00second i hear my daughter go no
39:20next thing you know i look on my phone it's tom throwing the trophy
39:24you know this is insane i couldn't believe it my mind was shocked and you could definitely tell
39:29when he threw that trophy tom brady was a different cat being down in tampa
39:34i'll tell you what we was not gonna let that damn trophy go to the bottom i was ready to dive in
39:39in the water just in case it fell we thankfully pulled it off but without a lot of looking back
39:46thinking what the was i thinking
39:49you know when you get a taste of it once you never think it's coming back and then for me it was kind
