00:00Jason Light, I'm the general manager with the Buccaneers.
00:19Here's a picture of me and the first day on the job, my family.
00:24This is my oldest, Charlie. He's a sophomore in high school now.
00:27He's always an eighth grader, turns 14 next week,
00:32and Theo just turned 11 a couple weeks ago.
00:37They've grown up Buccaneers basically their whole lives here.
00:41Never thought that I'd say that when I got the job.
00:44Never thought I'd be here this long, to be honest with you.
00:51I was hired in January of 2014, and there were a lot of people relying on me
00:56to get this thing turned around.
00:58I wanted to build through the draft, so that was the first order of business.
01:06Well, this is the draft room, so this is where all the decisions are made.
01:12We had some good hits. My first overall pick was a home run with Mike Evans.
01:16We had a good draft in 2015. Allie Marpet, Jameis gave us some hope, and in 2016, hit a rut.
01:24So we did a little bit of a deep dive into what we needed to do to get more Allie Marpetts,
01:31more Mike Evans, to hit home runs.
01:35We went back and looked at all of the great Bucs.
01:38Rodney Barber, Mike Allstott, Derek Brooks, Warren Sapp. God forbid I leave him out.
01:45And we tried to find the common denominator of what all those players had.
01:49We came up with accountability, competitiveness, confidence, passion, and resilience.
01:57It's very few players that can hit on every one of those traits.
02:02But the ones that do, we consider that type player. I am that man.
02:06Two days before the draft, we had one final meeting and looked at all of our draft picks,
02:17and we asked, is he that man? And as we talked through this, we wanted to have a player in mind.
02:27The player that we always think of when we think of these traits is Levante David. He epitomizes
02:34exactly what we were looking for. This is the silhouette that we have here of I am that man,
02:43but that silhouette actually is Levante David. Every meeting that we have, is he that man? Is he
02:50Levante David? As soon as we started focusing on this, there was something special about what was
02:58starting to come together.
03:11The Bucs fell to the Atlanta Falcons this afternoon. Quarterback Jameis Winston threw a pick six to end
03:17the game. And now one of the biggest questions headed into the offseason for the team. Will Jameis
03:22return as quarterback? Getting together after the season, the conclusion was that we just can't win
03:29football games if we're going to turn the ball over that much. I think Bruce, he did the best he
03:35could with Jameis, but he realized something has to change. It just so happened that that year there were
03:44a lot of quarterbacks that were available. In particular, obviously, the greatest of all time,
03:50Tom Brady is potentially leaving the Patriots.
03:56Tom Brady? You think he's really going to leave? You know, you don't know.
04:02Breaking news right now, Tom Brady just took to Twitter to announce that he is officially going to
04:07leave the New England Patriots. It was a 20-year run with incredible moments, championships,
04:14playoffs every year. Doesn't sound like a decision as expected today. Perhaps tomorrow will be about
04:19where he lands. In all seriousness, should Tom Brady retire? Yes, he should. He won't, but he should.
04:27It's not the same Tom Brady. Brady has started to decline a little bit.
04:32One of the things that I always tried to do in my career was watch greatness,
04:36and so I spent a lot of time watching the great quarterbacks. The first time I told Jason that I
04:40was watching Tom Brady, he kind of rolled his eyes at me and kind of laughed and walked out of the room,
04:45but I knew he would go watch because I'd know Jason really well. About two days later,
04:49he looked over and he went, I just watched Tom. He's pretty fucking good still.
04:53We felt like we had built a great roster. We felt like it was on the cusp of taking us to where we
04:58wanted to go. Shaq and JPP and Levante and Mike and Chris and Ali and Jensen and kind of on and on and on.
05:06We were a quarterback short. I said, do you think Tom would want to come here?
05:10John Spitek said, well, of course. I mean, you've been building it. Now he's going to come.
05:20We all looked at each other's like, feel the dreams.
05:22If you build it, he will come.
05:26If you build it, he will come.
05:28So we had decided we're going to go get Tom Brady.
05:34This is Tom Brady we're talking about here. I mean, that gets everybody's attention. So we
05:37wanted to keep it as quiet as possible. So we decided we needed to come up with a code term.
05:41As I was going around.
05:43We called it Operation Shoeless Joe Jackson.
05:47That's Shoeless Joe Jackson.
05:48Of course it is.
05:52During the legal tampering period, the first time we were able to talk to Tom's representatives,
05:55we made a call to his agent and said, hey, we're going to be exploring the quarterback market.
06:00And just wanted to let you know his agent said, well, you made the right call.
06:05Holy fuck.
06:06This might happen.
06:07He's picked us out.
06:09Tom Brady is going to go shop a little bit.
06:10For the first time in 20 years, he's going to get a chance to feel people want him.
06:14Two teams of mine that stands out to me, the Chargers and the Colts.
06:18Starting with the Raiders, there's a lot of good, young, talented pieces on offense.
06:21We got Bears and Giants. Are they possibilities?
06:24I think it's going to be a team that all of a sudden comes out of nowhere like you didn't even see coming.
06:34Free agency window opens. We called Tom. Bruce said, I'm going to take the guard rails off.
06:41I'm going to let you be you. Players like you come around once in a lifetime.
06:46And that's not hyperbole. That's the truth.
06:48Tom started talking about, you know, I can still do this. I said, bro, we watched every
06:54film for the last three years. I know you can still do it. Do you want to do it? And Tom gets
07:00a look in his eye. To me, it was like, oh, shit, he's serious, boy. He wants to prove to the world
07:08he's still the best.
07:09Tom Brady, take one.
07:12During the free agency process, it's pretty fast and furious how it all takes place. In the end,
07:18it was, okay, who are the guys that I'm throwing the ball to? Mike Evans, my goodness. Chris Godwin,
07:25fire the cannon. When I saw Chris and I saw Mike and the talent they had in Tampa,
07:31that put it over the top. So ultimately made the decision to go there.
07:42If the fans think Bruce was doing cartwheels, he wasn't. Bruce keeps it very cool all the time.
07:48But he looked at me and says, yeah, baby. All right. Now we're going to win the fucking Super
07:53Bowl. I don't know if I've had a drink taste that good in a while.
07:58John Spitek, he's sitting on his front porch. And I called him to tell him, you know,
08:04he was waiting there anxiously all day. I thought like, holy shit, look what we just accomplished.
08:08We just got the greatest quarterback of all time to join us. And I was a little bit tipsy from too
08:12much cab. And I missed a step.
08:14And right now to this day, he's got this hedge and then he's got this little bush and we call it
08:22the Brady bush. That bush was a physical marker of all that we had accomplished. You know, I took
08:29the bush down and I guess we brought the goat down to Tampa. This is breaking and coming in as we speak.
08:36Tom Brady is expected to be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. Good for Bruce Arians and all of that whole coaching
08:42staff. Good for the city of Tampa Bay, by the way. Great. All of a sudden, they become must-see
08:46television. You know, I'm on the couch. I'm eating cereal at the time. Out of nowhere, my phone just
08:54The media just blew up with, oh, Tom Brady's going to Tampa Bay.
08:58Words I never thought I would say. Tampa Bay Buccaneer Tom Brady.
09:02I don't know. That's fake. I don't think it's real.
09:05There's no way, right? Even hearing from Jason, I didn't believe it. I'm like,
09:08there's no fucking shot. I text Chris, you coming off number 12? And he said, I have to. Like,
09:15it's Tom Brady. The fans are lit. You know, ticket sales are booming. It's all because Tom Brady's
09:20going to be wearing this helmet come next football season. I'm so excited. We're going to get a Super
09:25Bowl now. I think it really gives the city, you know, something uplifting and something to look forward to.
09:29What happened overnight to the city of Tampa, to our fans? Nearly 7,000 fans online,
09:38waiting to buy season passes. Ticketmaster's server crashed. I mean, think about this.
09:43The only other time I've ever heard this happening is for Taylor Swift tour being announced.
09:48Everybody knew who Tom Brady was. You know, everybody knew who he was, whether they watched
09:51football or not. All the non-football fans in this community became Bucs fans. It's a great
09:57opportunity for the Bucs overall and for the Tampa Bay area. We will get a lot of visibility,
10:01and I think the team will prosper. When you have Tom Brady, what you learn very quickly is,
10:08all of a sudden, everybody wants to play with Tom Brady. You know, it used to be you're begging people
10:13to come play for the Buccaneers. When you have Tom Brady, you just pick up the phone and say,
10:17you want to come to Tampa? And the answer is yes.
10:24A little tired, but Gronk reporting. Let's get that guy. Gronk, you want to come? Great.
10:30Let's get Lenny Fournette. Lenny, you want to join the party? Great.
10:34AB in? Great. It's like, oh my goodness, this is getting even more exciting.
10:39Are the new look Bucs the scariest team in the NFC?
10:42Absolutely, they are. To say it was exciting wouldn't even be to describe it.
10:47The effect he had on our team, and then COVID hit.
10:52The coronavirus pandemic is bringing life in the United States to a grinding halt,
10:57and almost every major sporting event is on hold.
11:02We're fortunate enough that Tom decided to come with us. We were excited about getting him in here,
11:07getting the ball rolling. Now we can't coach him. Now we can't meet. Now we can't,
11:12we can't visit. There was no official off season. There was no OTAs. There wouldn't be training camp
11:18for a very long time. That wasn't going to stop Tom Brady. You knew he was going to get his guys
11:23together. The word was that he was getting his players together at Berkeley Prep, private school
11:30in Tampa. We started seeing these cars drive by. These were expensive automobiles, and they were all
11:37pulling into Berkeley Prep right before 6 a.m. Shout out Berkeley Prep. Berkeley Preparatory here in
11:44Tampa. We went there at least three times a week. Schools aren't in session. Like nobody is really
11:50out. And so it's just outside on the field. There was like a helicopter flying over top of the field,
11:56trying to get footage. Reporters sneaking behind fences, trying to like sneak footage of it.
12:01We got the first pictures of Tom Brady working out at Berkeley Prep with his guys.
12:10It was just a way for me to meet my teammates and begin to share some experiences, and we experienced
12:16them on the football field. And I knew early on that I was getting a very committed group of players,
12:23of coaches, and an organization that was really hungry to be successful.
12:30It was so cool to me that a guy that was this accomplice is so humble. He's really trying to
12:35figure it out. Like he wants to put the pieces together. He used to have me go down 50 yards
12:40down the field and just launch the ball. Crazy spin on the ball. The ball is like spinning perfectly.
12:45Like it's such an easy pass to catch. I'm like, so I guess this is what the best is like.
12:50One day after throwing a session at Berkeley, we went over to the basketball court. Then all the
12:56guys that were there, Mike and Chris, Gronk, were like, all right, let's mess around and shoot some
13:00hoops. And all of a sudden, I remember someone grabbing the basketball, and I think Gronk just
13:05went up and gave it like a two-hand dunk. And everybody was like, damn, Gronk, just a big man
13:09jumping up and throwing down a two-handed slam. Like that always gets everyone a little excited.
13:13Then Chris is like, hey, let me see that. He like bounces the ball off the ground,
13:18hits the backboard, grabs it, and then throws it down. And just acting like he's Vince Carter
13:26up there. And then Mike was like, no, no, no, let me try something. And then Mike goes up and under
13:31like a windmill under his leg and then dunks it. And I was just like, holy shit. These guys are freaks.
13:38And at that point, I knew it was going to be a different season.
13:49Our head coach was on board with doing everything that we could to avoid anybody testing positive for
13:55COVID and interrupting our season. Thanks, guys.
13:59We took all the right protocols. We got tested every single day. When we came into the facility,
14:04we had to wear like trackers just in case somebody got sick.
14:08I'm going down the elevator with a media personnel. It's my first day in the building. And right when
14:17we get to the first floor, the elevator opens up. And who other than coach Bruce Arians?
14:25I haven't met him yet. I haven't seen him yet. I haven't spoken to him yet.
14:29We had just put up all the signs around the building. One person on the elevator. Take the
14:34stairs six feet apart. And the elevator doors open. And there's two people on it.
14:39Myself, I did not have my mask on. And Bruce Arians runs a tight ship.
14:45And I lose it.
14:46Where the fuck is your mask?
14:48I'm cussing him out. I'm ripping him. You can't read. How the hell are we going to beat this virus?
14:53You can't follow the rules on the first damn day.
14:55I felt it. You know, I felt that he meant business.
14:58And I get to go in the elevator. I say, glad to have you, Gronk.
15:04I hear him say, man, is he always like this?
15:12The funny part is, you can't like Tom Brady if you're not a New England fan.
15:16You can't. All right? So when he came here, it wasn't about me loving Tom Brady. It's about what
15:22he brought into the locker room.
15:23He carried himself like one of the greats, but at the same time was a warm, a nice,
15:28down-to-earth person. No, there was no ego.
15:30We had a lot of players on this team, good players that were starved for success. And to have that
15:36shining light, the guy who's done it, the guy who's been there, the guy whose will to win
15:42is off the charts. It's infectious for everybody around him.
15:49Even on the business side, he just showed what elite is and that it's everything all the time.
15:57Every job got a little bit more important. Selling tickets, selling sweets, the people that cook.
16:03He was a big believer in hydration. And he would say that you have to drink half your body weight
16:09in ounces of water. I noticed when he was here that everybody had a giant Stanley and was filled
16:16with water and they were actually drinking their water. I was doing the same thing.
16:19Tom's big in emojis when he sends texts. A lot of hearts, a lot of, you know, this and that. And,
16:30you know, he had sent me a text saying, center quarterback relationship is an emoji, a key emoji.
16:37I'm sitting in my boxers. I got crumbs on me because I'm laying back in my recliner,
16:42playing video games, eating snacks, and just looking like a total slob. All of a sudden,
16:46I get a FaceTime from a Massachusetts number. Tom immediately just starts grinding me,
16:53talking about how I'm going to have to teach you how to fold a towel and put it down your ass and
16:57put a bunch of baby powder down there. So when you snap me the ball, the ball doesn't get to me wet.
17:02Ryan Jensen then calls me back about an hour later. He said, holy shit. For the first 20 minutes,
17:07he told me how I need to put baby powder on a towel and shove it down my ass crack,
17:11because that's the key to us winning. I said, what'd you do? He goes, I'm going to go out and buy
17:15a bunch of fucking baby powder. Can I wear these? You're really wearing those?
17:26All right, now we're talking. Like I can stare right into the sun right now and see everything.
17:30Don't do it for too long. I need you. Oh yeah. This franchise gave me an opportunity to see
17:35parts of myself that maybe were dormant for a little while. Can Gronk dance?
17:40That's not bad. That's really good. Edit those out. My love of playing in Tampa and for the Bucks
17:48brought out this part of me that I was just wondering if it was still there.
17:53Any games you really love? Pictionary. This is perfect. I've always wanted to draw Gronk.
17:58Are you ready? Yes. One, two, three. Go.
18:05When they started that damn show, Gronk and Tommy, hell, I got hooked on it. It was the funniest
18:10damn thing I think I've ever seen. Thanks, Tom.
18:12You're bringing me. Come on, baby.
18:15I felt like there was a new vibe in the building and there was this belief that we have a chance again.
18:22It's opening day of the National Football League. The Bucks hooking up with the New Orleans Saints,
18:29a team we've been playing for a long, long time.
18:31Our first game would go into New Orleans and we had no idea what to expect.
18:36There was not a car in the parking lot and there's clouds and I said, whoa, this is some horror movie.
18:42By golly, I didn't know if we'd see opening day this season.
18:44For sure. It was long awaited, no preseason games.
18:48We can hear people on the other sideline talking casually. Everybody's hearing the calls.
18:55Kings, kings, kings.
18:57Those at downfield, he's got to receive. It's caught deep into New Orleans territory.
19:05It took time to get used to playing like that.
19:07Quarterback sneak by Tom Brady to the 43-year-old score. He did. Touchdown, Tampa Bay.
19:12The first possession, they drove it 80 yards, maybe 85. You're thinking, wow, this is amazing.
19:20And then the game doesn't go so well after that.
19:22We'll take the swing pass. He'll be sacked. Got to him just as the ball got there. We trailed 24-14.
19:29That first game, it was tough. It was really tough.
19:31Quick throw near side. It's picked off. Janoris Jenkins. 15, 10, 3, 2, 1. Touchdown.
19:39What was supposed to be the shining point is this great start to a great year. We start slow.
19:46Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be 0-1 after the first game of the season, and Drew Brees continues to have
19:51a mastery over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Things weren't going our way, but it takes time.
19:57Like, good things always take time. I get it. Brady pumps and throws. Back shoulder for Evans,
20:04and just like that, touchdown, Tampa Bay. Watching these guys on the field, they're totally
20:10confident. There is no sense of panic. They know it was an ugly loss last week, but they know that
20:14this is a process. Leonard Fournette. What a gut punch from Tampa Bay. Tom Brady has been about as
20:22good as any quarterback in the NFL in bouncing back from a loss. We were playing some okay ball. We
20:28played good in spurts. Tom used to just tell us, stay the course. We'll be fine. Brady throws it for
20:35Chris Godwin. Lunging for that goal line, and he is in for the touchdown. And we would hit those
20:41really high moments. You saw the potential. Brady. White rolls. Touchdown. 30 goal. Tosses.
20:50What a turn here in Tampa. He threw for 369 yards and five touchdowns. Oh, perfectly thrown to O.J.
20:59Howard. He can't do it any better. Those five touchdowns went to five different players.
21:05Pawn. He gets there. Tom Brady still cooking after all these years. 38-31. The Buccaneers get it done.
21:21It was the first glimpse I had of what Tom Brady was. We've never had that in 50 years
21:29in the starting quarterback position, so it's exciting. We're underway. Game number five. Bucs are
21:38three and one. Trying to reach a rarefied air for the Buccaneers, four and one. After that first week,
21:44didn't look like it was coming together quite the way they wanted it to, but we've seen improvement
21:48every week. The Bears, they were so-so. They were kind of figuring it out. They weren't really a complete
21:56team. Brady sidesteps to the back of the table, and down he goes. Sacked down the play by Khalil Mack.
22:02Tom is expecting a certain level of play, and we're not producing it. Khalil Mack beat the block.
22:10There's a picture of Tom, and he looks like he's just cussing me out. He was yelling at all of us,
22:16including himself. Of course, the media runs with that. You know, there's turbulence in Tampa.
22:23We trail at halftime 14 to 13. Leading up to the game, I felt like I was having a good year. I felt
22:30like I was playing more than I ever played. I was making more plays than I ever made. The game was
22:35making more sense. Falls is sacked. That is Vita Vea, who got a hold of the jersey and did not let go
22:43and a loss of nine. Vita, being in his third year, had already established himself as one of the best,
22:50if not the best, nose tackle in the league. Vita Vea just absolutely shut the door. He was really
22:57causing havoc in the interior line. That's a really good job by those guys up front. Nick Foles and the
23:03Chicago Bears trailing by just two. We go down to two-minute, trying to get a stop on defense to win
23:09the game to get the ball back for offense so they can go back and score. Buck showing blitz. They're
23:14coming. Foles going to swing it out in the left back. Caught by Montgomery, looking for a block from
23:17bars. Montgomery is going to be snagged by Vita Vea and dropped. I'm thinking I'm making the tackle and
23:25I just feel a pop in my ankle. Now Vita Vea is injured.
23:30When Vita went down, it was, I mean, a devastating blow. I mean, he was obviously playing at a very high
23:41level and it was, it was a massive injury. I broke my tibia and I tore my deltoid ligament
23:49in my ankle. That big presence in the middle, so vital to defense. No doubt. In my mind,
23:56there was zero chance that he was going to play again this year. Here's the snap, the spot, the
24:01kick is airborne and it is good. Bears are on top. 20 to 19. It was a low scoring game, but the Bucks
24:08had an opportunity at the end, except that they lost track of the downs. 38 seconds to go. It is
24:15fourth and five. Rifles a throw. Incomplete broken up on fourth down. Breaks up the throw by Tom Brady.
24:24Everyone was kind of running off the field and I'm like, it's fourth down, right?
24:28I think he thought it was third down. And Brady's still standing out there.
24:35I feel bad about the meme of Tom doing this because like, he looked to me and he asked me,
24:42he's like, wasn't that third down? I was like, yeah, yeah. Like, I think we got another one.
24:47Personally, I thought it was third down. I, so I was right there with, with Tom on that.
24:52This game is over. The Bears will upset the Bucks 20 to 19.
24:56All we needed was a field goal to win, so I totally fucked that up.
25:01He held up the four fingers to ensure it looked like he forgot it was fourth down.
25:05I mean, I don't know how to answer it for him. I mean, we all knew it was fourth down.
25:08He saw what he saw, you know. Oh, that was one of the moments that he was pissed at me.
25:15We just weren't playing the way we were supposed to be playing that day and he let us have it.
25:19Well, the Tampa Bay Bucks return to the practice field today. They've had plenty of time to go over
25:25last Thursday's loss to the Chicago Bears. Just like last year, they're among the league's best
25:30at beating themselves. You know, we're kind of going through over, we're winning some, we're losing some.
25:35I believe it was like six and two at one point and hit this, hit this low starting out with the Saints.
25:43Throws wide, wide open. Smith for the touchdown. Breeze again, great protection. Throws and that will be caught.
25:51So that's four TDs tonight for Breeze. We thought we'd have a classic, but it was a one-man show or a one-team show
25:59anyway. I don't want to say it's the worst, but it's pretty bad.
26:0638-3. I mean, I haven't seen a domination like that in quite some time, much less against Tom Brady.
26:12You know, Sean Payton always had our number, always seemed to get the better of the Bucks.
26:17Should we be concerned about the Bucks potentially not making the playoffs?
26:20No, I think they'll make the playoffs, but I think now this is going to put them in a wildcard situation
26:25where they're going to have to go on the road three times. New Orleans now, on the other hand,
26:30they've put themselves in position to maybe get the bye.
26:34To lose on a night game like that, when you can't get anything going, sucked.
26:40Here's the snap. They're going to stunt.
26:41Rady Stansall. Those are passed out. Bill, it is.
26:43Intercepted by Fuller at the 30. His second to the game.
26:47The Bucks, for all that was made up about what Tampa Bay is, it's just a bunch of names.
26:54You got Tom, you got Mike, you got Chris, you got all these guys, and like,
26:57it's supposed to work immediately.
26:59It certainly hasn't turned out to be what we thought it was based on expectations
27:04at the beginning of the year. The Bucks right now drop to 7-4.
27:08It gets a little bit dicey if they were to lose Sunday, because they have Patrick Mahomes
27:11and the Chiefs coming to town. I don't think it's unreasonable to think the Bucks would fall to 7-5.
27:17What Coach Moore says, he says, we're in a battle, we lost the battle.
27:21Count the bodies, bury the dead, and move on.
27:26Welcome, everyone, to Tampa. We're 10 weeks to the day from Super Bowl 55 on this very field.
27:34Chiefs coming in here at 9-1, Tampa Bay 7-4.
27:37No excuses, man. If you don't make the first play, make the next fucking three plays, all right?
27:42We just came off of losing two out of three at home, and you got the defending Super Bowl champions
27:47coming in. Here we go. Sling to hill, and already with a big strike, it goes for 34 yards.
27:54The Chiefs at that point, they were the top dog, right? It's kind of like, that's the barometer.
28:01Number one scoring offense on display today.
28:07Boy, did they make their presence felt early.
28:09Brady's throwing more balls under extreme pressure. You see this? Incomplete.
28:14Tampa Bay has not crossed the 50 in this game.
28:18I didn't know that boy can't move. He in the pocket. He got to get it out.
28:25Dropping to throw Mahomes. Looks downfield. What's the long ball downfield? Got a receiver
28:29in the area. It's a caught ball by Tyreek Hill.
28:32Hill and a touchdown.
28:35Tyreek Hill with that 4-2 speed just beat everybody down the far sideline.
28:39He can't go on me. They can't press him, man.
28:41He can't go on me.
28:43Ooh, we knew Tyreek Hill was fast. We didn't know how fast.
28:46Down the field. Who else? Hill at the 10. Cutback. Touchdown and a leak.
28:54He scored his second touchdown of the game. And the Chiefs lead 17 to nothing.
29:00What is going on, Mike? He's on a historic trajectory right now.
29:03I can't run with you, boy.
29:04It kind of shell-shocked us from a defensive standpoint. Like, whoa, this is unbelievable.
29:09They're going to score 100 points.
29:11First down and goal from the Buccaneer 8-yard line. Chiefs lead 17 to nothing.
29:15They wanted a whole lot more.
29:17Todd Bowles had to give his cornerback some help over the top.
29:20And he did the unthinkable. He played cover, too.
29:25Monty Kiffin would have loved it.
29:27My arm was waiting it out. He feels the pressure.
29:32Ball is on the ground.
29:34And it's picked up by the box. They make a play.
29:38Finally.
29:40Keep knocking the hell out of me. Keep coming. Keep coming.
29:42We turned it up, though. We got some pressure on the quarterback. We was able to put Tyreek Hill
29:47in check a little bit.
29:48I think it was the right decision to play Tampa 2.
29:55You hit the end. He's going to take your guy.
29:59If that guy rushes, it's going to be open.
30:01We're going to be open.
30:023-19.
30:04First and 10.
30:06Good job picking up the rush.
30:07And there's Gronkowski across the middle.
30:11We all had each other's backs.
30:13We knew we had a solid team that could compete for a Super Bowl.
30:16Going underneath.
30:19Doing the Ronald Jones.
30:21High stepping it down the sideline. Touchdown.
30:28Instead of just throwing in the towel,
30:30you know, we scratched and we clawed our way back into that game.
30:32Our back against the wall. Every time we step out here, man, we got something to prove.
30:36Prove it, bro.
30:37Keep going, boys. Gotta go again.
30:39Keep going now.
30:40With pressure. Brady goes deep.
30:43I look up and Tom launched it.
30:47And I'm running as fast as I can to try to track the ball down.
30:51What a throw. What a catch.
30:54Godwin able to hold it in. It's 46 yards down the field.
30:59I get up and I'm like gassed up.
31:00And in my head, I'm like, we're going to win this damn game.
31:03Everyone has a hole. Ramped it up.
31:06Brady's going for the big ball. He's open.
31:08Evans for the touchdown on fourth and three.
31:14And it's a 10-point game.
31:17We can beat these boys, man.
31:20To the end zone. Flag out. Touchdown, Evans.
31:23Get it down to a field goal game.
31:25Did you think it would get to this point?
31:27I mean, this is crazy.
31:29All right, so get the ball back.
31:32Comes down to this.
31:34Thirty-seven.
31:35Bucs are out of timeout, so first down would end it.
31:38Rolling to the left is Mahomes. Steps up.
31:43Throwing it hard. Who else but Hill?
31:48And that'll be the ball game.
31:50Tampa Bay Buccaneers will fall to the Chiefs 27-24.
31:55That Chief game, although we lost, in some ways kind of gave us a little bounce.
32:01We almost made one of the best comebacks in Buccaneers history.
32:06That situation right there is when you know that the season is not lost yet.
32:12That you know that you can still turn it around.
32:14Well, we learned a really valuable lesson.
32:16We're good enough to beat them, but we can't play this way.
32:19Right after that game, I said if I ever play these guys again, I know exactly what I would do.
32:26Do you want me to make a slight guess here?
32:30I think there's a better than good chance that these two are going to be here in Tampa.
32:33Wow.
32:34I thought Tampa Bay had a very uphill battle to climb.
32:37Now I think they're in the discussion after they evolved to this offense today.
32:41It was a reckoning that Monday.
32:52There was a team meeting, all players meeting.
32:54We all kind of got up from a leadership perspective and said,
32:58guys, like, we got to figure it out.
33:01It's got to be every single person on this team that decides our common goal here
33:06across the board is to win a championship.
33:08This was never my team. This was your team.
33:12We'll be as good as you want to be. We'll be as bad as you want to be.
33:15But we're not playing up to our potential.
33:19I don't know what were said in these meetings,
33:20but I do know that Tom and Bruce did get together.
33:23And I think they had a chance to think through a lot of things.
33:30So we were 75 going into Dubai.
33:32And it was really just an unspoken thing that we just knew that we needed to win out.
33:39There was a surge of energy at the practice field in the meeting rooms.
33:44We didn't lose a step from that second half versus the Kansas City Chiefs.
33:49Let's go, guys. Play great.
33:50Great players do.
33:51It's going to be our best day.
33:52It should be.
33:53How about a gun? Brady throws a deep ball downfield.
33:56Oh, Scottie Miller! Touchdown, Tampa Bay!
33:59Boom! That a great move!
34:01And he fumbles the football on the sixth sack of the day.
34:05Everything just kept clicking.
34:08We're at Atlanta.
34:10We got off to a pretty rough start, and we weren't playing with much energy.
34:13It's Ryan going to the end zone.
34:16It is caught for the touchdown!
34:18What a start for the Falcons.
34:20We went on that second half, and we played our ass off.
34:26Brady got a receiver open. Touchdown, Tampa Bay!
34:28The very first conversations I had with Tom during training camp, he said, hey, listen,
34:33we're going to go through some struggles until we all kind of find our groove.
34:37He's going to be sacked! Dropped by Devin White!
34:40He said, I don't see us hitting it until about three-quarters way through the season,
34:45but I do see us winning the Super Bowl.
34:47Victory when it looked like there was no chance!
34:51I kept that in mind the entire season.
34:54Those weeks of those extra side meetings, those extra walkthroughs,
34:59it didn't show up right away. It showed up later in the season.
35:03Mike Evans, he gets the separation and the score!
35:10What a great grab, Chris Godwin!
35:11We went to Detroit, kicked their ass.
35:14Brown will score a touchdown, Tampa Bay!
35:16We finished with Atlanta again. We kicked their ass again.
35:21Mike Evans becomes the first NFL player to record a thousand yards or more in his first seven seasons,
35:28and won a throw by Brady.
35:29We went on a run. We won the final four games in the regular season.
35:33Wants to go deep, and for Godwin!
35:36He hangs on! Inside the ten, Chris Godwin!
35:40Three touchdowns, Tampa Bay!
35:43This is the kind of performance I think Bruce Arians wanted to get his team ready for the playoffs.
35:51So, early in my career, I never sniffed the postseason,
35:56and on the cusp of playing on my first postseason game.
36:00I'm teed up about it. I'm gassed up.
36:01It's my first opportunity to play in the postseason as it is a bunch of my teammates.
36:06We knew we were going to be going on the road because we were a wildcard team.
36:10We knew it was going to be tough, but we knew that our roster and the way that our guys competed,
36:15we would have a chance no matter who we played.
36:21Earlier that year, there was a point where Leonard Fournette was unhappy with his role.
36:27He wanted the ball more, like all good players do.
36:32Leonard had been the number one guy everywhere he'd been.
36:36And for him to be the number two guy, I could tell how hard it was on him.
36:40When you took him off the field, I mean, it just crushed his soul.
36:46When I got hurt, I mean, they ain't making it any better.
36:48Another frustrating moment for me.
36:50I had to wait five games, really not playing, really not getting the ball.
36:57He was starting to sulk a little bit.
37:00The attitude was starting to get a little cancerous within the locker room.
37:07I had one rule, no bitching.
37:10Bitching is when you're complaining to somebody that can't fix the problem.
37:15So Bruce came to me and said he wanted to cut Lenny.
37:19I talked Bruce into having one last chat with him.
37:25He was sitting on the cooler, back in the back during the walkthrough.
37:30I drove my golf cart back and I said,
37:33either you're in or I'm cutting you.
37:36Call your agent, call whoever you got to call.
37:39When you come back out here, you're engaging, you're in.
37:44Of course, the agent told me he felt like I needed to get my mind right.
37:47I felt like I wasn't there and truthfully, I really wasn't.
37:51He was like, man, you know, stop pouting.
37:54You got it. You got everything a player needs.
37:57He came back out.
37:59I'm in.
38:00I watched the meeting happen out of my window.
38:05They talked for about 30 seconds and then Bruce called me and he said,
38:09me and Lenny, we good.
38:10So we didn't cut Lenny.
38:15And playoff Lenny was born.
38:17The Buccaneers are the playoffs for the first time since 2007 against the Washington football team.
38:23Ronald Jones came into this game on the injury report and we are told he is questionable with that quad injury.
38:29We get to D.C., Ronald Jones cannot play and we start leaning on Leonard.
38:36In that game, Leonard Fournette ran the ball with urgency and with intent to punish.
38:40When it came down to the playoffs, he just like found another gear.
38:46Lenny, way to run. Keep it up.
38:48Hey, that's why you wanted me here.
38:49Damn right.
38:50Tom trusted him more than anybody else at the time.
38:54They had a good thing going.
38:55Way to ball out.
38:56You're gonna play your mad, Tom.
38:58We all know how important the run game is to establish everything else.
39:02For the past game, to set that up.
39:04Third and three, Brady to his second look.
39:06It's open.
39:07It's Antonio Brown for the touchdown.
39:14Hand the ball off.
39:14And Fournette is understep.
39:16Touchdown, Tampa Bay.
39:17Yeah!
39:18Playoff line here.
39:21Bucs win.
39:22It had been 18 years since we won a playoff game.
39:26We kind of, I would say, squeaked it out.
39:28But you go on the road in the playoffs and, you know, any game feels good to win.
39:34Let's go!
39:35And it was the first step in the journey.
39:39It was a big win, man.
39:40I'm happy to be a part of this organization.
39:42Just thanking God for the second chance.
39:45We hadn't won a playoff game in decades.
39:48So to win that game and reset everything and go back to zero here, it was a big deal.
39:53It was a big deal.
39:53Bruce and I have a standing meeting throughout the season on Thursday afternoons.
40:07I know that there were COVID rules and things.
40:11So we sat 10 feet apart in his backyard and had drinks just to hash things out.
40:19It's the best meeting that we could ever have because it got him relaxed.
40:24It wasn't in a boardroom.
40:25It wasn't in an office.
40:26We just let it fly.
40:29After he had a couple cocktails, he said,
40:33this is the game that scares me the most, this New Orleans game.
40:36It's finally here, this matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints.
40:42Tom Brady and Drew Brees.
40:44That's Tom Brady.
40:45And over the last five games, he's playing some of the best football of his life.
40:49It took some time.
40:50They went through a lot of growing pains, but they've gotten here to the divisional game,
40:54playing their best football.
40:57The Saints killed us in week one, taking it away, scoring up turnovers.
41:01Same thing and the embarrassment loss in week nine.
41:05At that time, we were healthy.
41:07They were healthy.
41:08It was going to be a knockdown drag out.
41:11Sitting there talking to B.A.'s backyard.
41:13Bruce said,
41:15the winner of this game is going to win it all.
41:16Toss to Camara.
41:21And a good run.
41:22Drew Brees and the Saints are in business.
41:26Knocks it through from 42.
41:30Obviously, what's at stake is a trip to Lambeau Field next Sunday for the NFC Championship game.
41:37We got to get these guys, you know, can't lose them three times a year.
41:41Everybody knows it's Drew Brees' last rodeo.
41:44He's going to retire at the end of the year.
41:46So we knew that that team was going to do everything that they could to beat us.
41:51Ready.
41:51Brady, three.
41:52Brees, here's the snap.
41:53We send the blitzing linebacker.
41:55Naturally, I'd say off the field, I could be a very kind, nice person.
42:00But when it comes to football, I had to create enemies on the other side of the ball.
42:04Brees flushes to his right.
42:05Intercepted by the Bucs.
42:08And if I was playing today, I'd want to go slice those motherfuckers' throats, every single one of them that I'd play.
42:12From the three, Brady throws, pass caught, Evans touchdown.
42:18Tampa Bay on top.
42:21I think we all had a little bit of a chip on our shoulder in that game.
42:23I think we played a little hungry, hungrier than we had been.
42:26Brees to the sideline and Jameis Winston comes in.
42:30How about this?
42:31Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer quarterback.
42:34We saw when Jameis came into the game, there was something strange that was about to happen.
42:40Well, now they've got Winston lined up wide to the outside in a direct snap.
42:45They hand it to him, reverse, goes to Jameis.
42:49When they ran the trick play, the throwback, it seemed like time stood still.
42:54It's like, holy shit.
43:11This guy that I just released, this play is going to be the play that puts the dagger in us
43:17and ends our hopes of winning the Super Bowl with the greatest of all time at quarterback.
43:20That throw got us the lead.
43:25And we think we're about to roll off with another win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
43:29But it's always tough to beat a team three times in the same year.
43:35Tampa Bay Buccaneers trailing by seven.
43:37We need a takeaway here.
43:39It looked like New Orleans was going to score and Drew Brees was going to have another Drew Brees moment.
43:44And along comes Antoine Winfield.
43:48Back in 2009, my dad played New Orleans in the NFC Championship game.
43:58Unfortunately, he lost.
44:00But I remember after the game, seeing him cry and how passionate he was.
44:04And I was like, wow, like, he really loves this game.
44:07I remember thinking, like, one day I want to be able to get to that point.
44:12He wanted to win because he hasn't won a Super Bowl in his entire career.
44:16So in that moment, I was like, I want to be able to win a Super Bowl.
44:20Third down and two.
44:21Quick throw, Cook makes the catch.
44:23First down, ball's out.
44:24The ball is out, and it's picked up by Tampa Bay.
44:27Antoine Winfield Jr. strips the ball, and the whole momentum of this game shifts.
44:32It's a takeaway by this defense.
44:36After Winfield, the rookie, forced the fumble.
44:39Good protection.
44:40Again, pass caught.
44:41Touchdown Fournette.
44:43Buccaneers turn that takeaway into the game-tying touchdown.
44:47They gave us a lot of energy, and everybody on the sideline knew we could win that ball game.
44:52Turnovers now for the Saints have been really costly.
44:56Second and eight.
44:58Breeze throws, and he's picked by Devin White.
45:01Another turnover, and White picks his way down the sideline.
45:06The quarterback's think Tom Brady didn't get in.
45:08Touchdown, Tampa Bay.
45:11And the Buccaneers are almost in the NFC Championship game.
45:16In fact, I think I'm going to call it.
45:17We had not beat them in a long time.
45:23They were the bully, and we found a way to bully them back.
45:27This is my state, man.
45:28I run this shit, man.
45:29Come on, man.
45:30I run Louisiana, man.
45:31Tell them, this the vice president.
45:32I'm the president of this shit, man.
45:34Tom Brady!
45:36Good job, man.
45:37Good job, man.
45:38Good job, man.
45:40Come on, man.
45:41Hey, NFC Championship, here we come, man.
45:43He is not one of them.
45:44He is not one of them.
45:46Good job, man.
45:49Double move, scooter.
45:50Good job, let's go.
45:56Can't say I've ever been more proud of a group of guys coming out of a locker room
45:59than walking to those buses in New Orleans.
46:05Tom, you know, he comes to the locker room, we got his ass.
46:08I'm talking about Drew Brees, and after the game is over, we're all, you know, getting ready to go onto
46:12the buses, fly back to Tampa, and he's out there playing catch with Drew's son.
46:16To me, it was just kind of like a savage kind of moment, you know, that competitiveness.
46:23When we're on the field, like, we're enemies.
46:25We're gonna do everything we can to beat you and not let you win, and then after the game,
46:30he's out there playing catch with his sons.
46:32I remember walking off that field thinking, holy shit, we're in the NFC championship game.
46:39And not only that, but we did it against a team that had been a thorn in our side for a long time.
46:44So we had to win a playoff game one, which proved to be kind of a tough game in Washington.
46:55Then we had to go to New Orleans and beat New Orleans and Drew Brees.
47:00Now we're gonna go play Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.
47:04It was murder's role.
47:06I don't think we would have had it any other way.
47:10It's not gonna be easy, but this team can win it all.
47:13Let's go for this.
47:14Let's no risk it, no biscuit.
47:23Tom Brady, take two, Mark.
47:24Last question, we ask this of everybody, and don't let anybody off the hook, even you.
47:29Yep.
47:30Single greatest buccaneer of all time.
47:34Single greatest buccaneer of all time.
47:36How could we just do one?
47:38I would just say Mike Evans.
47:40Consistently performing at the highest level, all pro, champion, selfless,
47:46does great things in the community, never disappointed in anything he's ever done.
47:51And I love him like a brother, and I think we share so many great experiences together,
47:56and I loved every single day out there with him on the field.
48:00He blew my mind every time I played with him.
48:02I was here for a short time, for about two years, but I learned, you know, plenty
48:07about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their history, and the players that played here before me.
48:12And I would say the greatest bucc of all time, it kind of reminded me of myself,
48:18but even to another extent, was Mike Allstock.
48:23Just the way he ran that ball, just the way he sacrificed his body,
48:28just the way he took out defenders.
48:30And it's not just talent that made him so great.
48:35It was his mindset that made him even greater, because you got to have that mindset to run full
48:40speed at another NFL player sitting there at 260 pounds at the middle linebacker position,
48:47and moving him backwards.
48:48And Mike Allstock did that, play in and play out.
48:52And I would say he's the greatest Tampa Bay Buccaneer ever because of that.
48:56This is here for my life.
49:00I've been on my own, doing it for myself life.
49:05From the pain and all the glory.
49:08Don't want it to be the same old story.
49:14I suppose
49:15Save me
49:16The higher you get, the lower it goes
49:18Save me
49:19Save me your time, save me your toes
49:22Save me
49:23Been praying for mine and saving my soul
49:25Save me
49:27Lord knows I've been crazy
49:29Lord knows I've been wasting time
49:31Now I'm back on my grind to make peace
49:33Take heat, take the league
49:34No fairytales, no make-believe
49:36This the time when you make do
49:38Or take the reins to tame the beast
49:40Save me
49:41For myself and for my health like
49:43I've been on my own, do it for myself like
49:46I've been on my own, do it for myself like
49:48I've been on my own, do it for myself like
