00:00This hot dog on your head is like bugging me out.
00:04I love it. I love it.
00:06I love it.
00:08Oh, and you lit up. Okay.
00:10Yep.
00:11Okay.
00:11Thanks.
00:13Take me out for some hot dogs.
00:18Happy holidays.
00:20Happy holidays.
00:22Yes.
00:23Merry Christmas.
00:24Happy Hanukkah.
00:25Happy holidays, everybody.
00:27I don't care what you celebrate.
00:28It's a festive time.
00:30And, you know, I've been reviewing hot dogs now for six years.
00:35Believe that, six years.
00:37And as another year comes to an end, I had to go finally check out
00:41Hobby's Delicatessen.
00:44Anyway, you know, this place has been a deli here for years.
00:52They said that they've been around since before you were born.
00:54But it's been owned by the same family since 1962.
00:58And I'm very familiar with the Frommie Sandwich.
01:02But how is your hot dog?
01:05You know?
01:06Let's find out.
01:07I'm getting the single dog.
01:34And I'll also get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:41Quarter pound natural casing will be popular.
01:43And I'll also get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:44And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:45And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:46And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:47And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:48And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:49And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:50And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:51And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:52And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:53And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:54And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:55And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:56And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:57And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:58And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
01:59And I'll get the chicken noodle when it comes.
02:13This is Jack. He bought it in 62.
02:16The immigrant from Poland on one of the last boats out.
02:21We lost 75 family members in Poland during World War II.
02:30Went and served for his new country, landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day,
02:35and managed to survive all the way through the war.
02:38And ended up, the last act of the war was guarding some of the big boys who were going on trial.
02:48And came home and built the life.
02:50And let me tell you, there's a reason they call them the greatest generation.
02:53They don't build them like that now.
02:55And you sent, I think, for the troops to do salami drop.
02:58We did. Our dad was part of the Inspiration Corporation Salami Drop.
03:04Long story short, we sent over 30 tons of salamis to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
03:12No thanks.
03:14Places like this are what make hot dogs great.
03:18Before you leave, you've got to get me the name of your stylist.
03:22I mean, that's put together right there.
03:25That is absolutely put together.
03:28Here's the hot dog, and they put it on a nice grill.
03:30Look at this hot dog. This is a great-looking hot dog.
03:33It's a special hot dog made by Marathon.
03:36Same thing as we make the sabret.
03:38And it's a quarter pound that's just available for, like, restaurants.
03:41So let's see how this hot dog stands.
03:43And the bun to dog ratio is terrific.
03:45You see the bun sticking out?
03:47That's how you always want to see it.
03:48Let's see how it actually tastes.
03:50That smell. It's got that good char smell to it.
03:53The bass is all loaded.
04:18And here's the swing.
04:22It is going.
04:24It is going.
04:25It is gone.
04:27This is a grand slam.
04:31Yes.
04:32This hot dog, it touches all the bases.
04:36This place is historic.
04:38It's been owned by the same family since 1962.
04:43And, you know, this is actually the first time I've had their hot dog, and it's great.
04:48It's an absolute home-run hot dog.
04:51Great taste.
04:52Great char.
04:54Great snap.
04:56But let me tell you something.
04:58This is not the, they're known for.
05:00Their best item is pastrami.
05:02When I worked at the courthouse, I got that at least once a month.
05:06And it was a great pastrami.
05:07I'd put it, I'd say it might even be better than cats.
05:11I'm going to give their, I'm going to give their pastrami a 9.1.
05:16You know, when it's wintertime and holidaytime, you know, sometimes you want a nice little cup of soup.
05:30And when they got, they got nice cups here, you know, they have this thing called Lundquist soup.
05:37Dedicated to all the Ranger fans out there.
05:40The only thing is, it's only available in bowls.
05:41There's just no cups available when you talk about Lundquist soup.
05:46It's solid soup.
05:48Look at this, nice hearty soup.
05:51I'm going to give it an 8.2.
05:59This place, this place is historic.
06:05It's timeless.
06:06You know, it's actually got landmark status now.
06:09That's how deeply ingrained in the Padraig of Mark is.
06:14Read a lot more so than just being an institution.
06:18They're survivors.
06:20This place was here before the Newark riots.
06:25It survived the riots.
06:27And it survived the pandemic.
06:30And the pandemic was like a one-two punch for them because they had a fire.
06:36And they were closed.
06:39They had no dining for like three, four years.
06:42But now they're back up full strength.
06:45And hobbies cannot be stopped.
06:48One of the greatest places.
06:50Everyone from Newark knows it.
06:52And they're going to be here for many more years.
06:55And that's what makes them great.
06:59So happy holidays again.
07:04And next year, we'll be doing it all over again.
07:09Keep broad-dogging.
07:10Take me out for some hot dogs.
07:25Get me one that's only plain.
07:28No mustard or ketchup.
07:32I'll know what the dog is really about.
07:35And it's hope that this is a good one.
07:39Maybe a home run or a double.
07:42But if it sucks, it will be a strikeout and not worthy of my taste buds.
08:09Let's go.
08:10I'll be back.
08:11Let's go.
08:13Let's go.
