00:00all right this is the classic it wins a win man is that what it is well if you're looking at it
00:06glass half full yeah it wins a win and they've now won seven in a row and that's this tied for
00:12the second longest streak in franchise history yeah seven in a row ugly win versus a bad opponent
00:18where you made that bad opponent look like the best version of itself yes that's a good way
00:23talking to brazil the security guard downstairs as i hurried in this morning it's had one of those
00:27mornings where 18 things uh went i don't want to say they went wrong but they went wrong they could
00:32have gone yeah yeah and i'll keep adding up it's kind of like the texans pre-snap operation at times
00:36it's like a couple seconds here a couple seconds there and then all of a sudden the clock is
00:40a good guy to run into on a morning like that he's always in a good mood i was in a good mood he's a
00:44vet also you know yeah so that's always i always feel uh bad complaining to a veteran then i was
00:50like let me tell you about the morning i had hold on i'll let you strap on your prosthetic there and
00:56then we'll then we'll keep talking about my bad day yeah yeah and the texans yesterday did they
01:02lose no they won it's a first world problem to have when you know you're like okay well they won
01:08but it was ugly and i want more that's okay it's okay to be greedy i want more i wanted i wanted an
01:13absolute smattering against the pavement of the uh las vegas raiders and it wasn't quite that you did
01:19not get that so yesterday as you heard mark vandermeer say on the call and we'll hear some more vandy at
01:24seven o'clock today because there were there were there were a few things mostly in the fourth
01:28quarter towards the end to get excited about they did close with some plays that they needed to get
01:32but boy it was it was a slow go for the offense for most of the day look the raiders offense outscored
01:41the texans offense you needed to pick six from derrick stingley to early on to win this game do you
01:46come away from this game more concerned that yes the offense is ultimately going to be the thing
01:50that drags this team down or that the defense has started to show some cracks here over the last
01:57little bit of that the it's it's it's easier to get frustrated and angry at the offense um but it is
02:04what it is the reality of the offense is that the offensive line is gonna hold you back at some point
02:09because i like hearing the interview of trent brown in the pregame that we played because trent brown
02:15i've heard him a couple times where he very clearly it will say that we're not where we need
02:21to be you know as other people are trying to you know say whoa boy this offensive line they've really
02:26got it together trent brown's a veteran he's been around he's been on super bowl teams he's like he
02:30understands what the standard is i think cole popovich understands what the standard is yeah and
02:35they're not a good offensive line right now they're improved over last year but the problem is that
02:41when they when they go up against physically tough defensive linemen they really struggle and yesterday
02:49the the raiders were playing some coverages especially in the first half when you're wondering
02:54like wow boy no why isn't cj finding somebody open wow he's got time in the pocket they're playing
03:00when they were playing two man that's you got two safeties and then they're playing man against
03:05everybody else you should be able to run against that like you really should be able to tear them up
03:10in the run game and they're just not able to do it with those those tight ends and those offensive
03:15linemen i want to leave the tight ends out of it those guys had some rough snaps um but that it it is
03:20what it is there with the defense that's the gold standard on this team that you expect to play at a
03:26really high level and over the last couple weeks you've seen man well without disease alshire in there
03:31even it's it's a different defense which should stand to reason when you're in the league but then you
03:38have some injuries when your defensive tackle room is uh lineup is decimated and when you don't have
03:46aziz elshire you're probably going to not look like the best version of yourself so over the next few
03:51weeks what i hope is that a aziz elshire is healthy and then b some of those other defensive tackles
03:57that are going to start playing a lot more just can they get up to speed because this this team has
04:02done a really good job of getting the absolute best out of defensive tackles who are otherwise
04:08just kind of blue collar guys yes um now you're trying to insert those guys in mid-season and see
04:13if you can get that so it's that is my concern yes the tackling being as bad as it was that's something
04:20that was an issue early in the season and they hemmed it up um they just have to hopefully snap back
04:26over these next few weeks and into the playoffs yeah the defensive line thing is interesting
04:30because it's one thing it's one thing to take journeymen that have been in rotations around
04:37like tim settle for example they are getting the prior to his injury they were getting the best
04:42version of tim settle you've ever seen the previous versions were good enough to be on nfl rosters and
04:47actually play yeah now we're talking about taking marlon davidson you know guys like you know guys that
04:53are that are like truly fringe street guys yeah trying to piece it together with guys like which
04:58is what tommy togei was that's fair into this yes yeah no and they've gotten the most out of tommy
05:03togei no they have it may work it's just it's boy it's it's but it's also it's tougher when you
05:07don't have and it's week 17 yeah it's tougher when you don't have aziz back there that's exactly right
05:12so um and that's the other thing too you know i brought this game yesterday and i don't know that
05:18anybody ever ended up asking domiko this question i would have been curious
05:22i would have been curious if aziz and i'll throw woody marks in there too because it seemed like
05:29it seems like that there's a possibility they may have looked at the opponent and said okay we can
05:35get by this week certainly with woody it feels that way because woody had been on the injury report the
05:40previous few weeks and was able to play like if jawar jordan if jawar jordan hadn't had if we didn't
05:46have the jawar jordan epiphany last week woody marks had played yes well and that's where i you know
05:50watching in when in things being closer than they had to be jawar jordan twice there in the fourth
05:56quarter just didn't have the nose for the first down marker oh put your head down or the physical
06:01power maybe to do it where woody marks is i mean even though woody marks is a smaller guy he's bigger
06:07and more powerful and can break tackles better than jawar jordan doesn't decide to get fancy in the
06:11open field either and then by this you over on the same uh on the other side of the coin is man
06:16nick chubb really ends up being one of the big time game sealers by that 30 yard run that he has
06:21in the fourth quarter yeah yeah the where i was going with woody marks and aziz al shire though is
06:26if if they chose to like the question i would have loved to have seen asked and i don't see anywhere
06:31on the run sheet that it did was if it were a playoff game would those guys have played right
06:38right because if the answer were yes and i don't know what d'amico's answer would have been
06:42we think we know how he is with injuries um if the answer is yes then by definition you took the
06:48raiders lightly yesterday no yeah that's i i guess it's true and you and you won the game in an ugly
06:54fashion yeah that's the that beloved is that you won the game yeah so we're gonna get a lot of
07:00people angry this morning on both sides of the aisle because there's going to be some people
07:03that are going to be claiming we're too tough on them there's going to be others that are saying
07:07we're too soft and the post game we had both on the week it was like you just said it was split on
07:11the post yeah i'm willing to take it okay uh i've got broad shoulders not as broad as it used to be
07:16but i've got enough shoulders yeah broad enough comparatively so broader than yours so certainly
07:21broader than mine this and ben where it was where it was hitting home listen to this listen to the
07:27the big uh meathead former football player picking on us ben because of our lack of broad shoulders
07:33i thought he meant womanly shoulders um where it really hit me yesterday as to just how silly it
07:43was that this game was so close in the third and fourth quarter when the when the raiders took the
07:48lead on the they took the lead on the ashton jenty long catch and run right the the rush the rushing
07:57touchdown was the one they made it 23 to 21 the the they got the lead on that long 60 yard
08:03kind of wheel route down the sideline where miles brian looked like a mosquito bouncing off of
08:08ashton jenty they showed the graphic on the broadcast and it said raiders lead for the first time
08:14since week 11 yeah against the dallas cowboys yeah that's uh and it is five weeks it's a raiders team
08:21that you go back to week nine and week 10 and they took the jaguars into overtime and then they uh
08:28they played the broncos i think it was 13 to 10 and it was 13 to 10 and if that's what the margin was
08:34whatever it was it was close in the third quarter or anything and that like that raiders defense
08:40has some good elements to it it's just they've been on the field so much in some of these games
08:45that it like you saw that okay there's like any nfl team they've got some good players max crosby is a
08:53very good football player very good max crosby at times was pressuring cj stroud after no less than
08:58four offensive players tried to block him it was well it was impressive or the times where zero
09:04offensive players there was that as well yeah that was interesting the execution of that play is
09:08interesting uh i just uh it's i'd like to blame it on poor execution but i think it was also
09:14it's it's you're making it if if max they're the the texans have done some things where you pitch it
09:21to um dalton schultz when he's coming across the middle there and i think they were thinking that
09:27max crosby might be disciplined and play uh play dalton schultz on that he was not no uh he did not
09:34worry one bit he went straight for that well he almost and he got in the backfield before he would
09:37have even had to make a read yeah yeah there were some there were some rough ones um let's hear from
09:42domico ryan's on this oh by the way the other stat that it was unsettling to me that was the first
09:47game since week five that the raiders as a team have rushed for more than 75 yards in a game that's
09:54the one where i go okay is this new world we live in where we're so thin on the defensive line is this
10:00is this that coming back to roost because ashton jenty you can say what you will about the 60 yard
10:04catch and run the 50 some odd yard touchdown where the tackling was horrific he he got more tough yards
10:11inside than we've seen most backs get against the tech yeah and again if you talk about the front
10:17stop the run the four defensive linemen and the three linebackers when you've got aziz alshire out
10:23and then at times you've got defensive tackles who are uh who are backups and the what the the really
10:30nice thing that the texans had early on as you alluded to was they had a guys in a rotation that
10:35were not name brand guys but at any given time they had three four or five guys on the roster
10:42who could start on many other nfl teams they'd be a guy that's a starter they'd be a jag you know just
10:48a guy or whatever but they'd be viable nfl starters yep where now you're getting into okay you've got
10:53backups in there and you don't have your the your your tone setter in the linebacking core that every
11:00coach will tell you yep this is the guy that makes everything go yeah this guy and kamari lassiter
11:05the heart and soul of this defense the way they operate right right yeah they're the chances are
11:10for the rest of the season they're going to be calling a guy up off the practice squad who's
11:13going to get a bunch of snaps in the interior on the defensive line or some of these guys you know
11:18without having gone back and watching the coaches copy yet or anything some of these guys hopefully
11:21he'll pull a tommy togi and really yeah and really turn into something more than they are right now
11:26i do i do feel like between damiko ryans and rod wright those are coaches who are really good at
11:30developing it's the best kind of victory honestly to get in a in a win streak because it just like
11:38last week i think you don't take it lightly in film there's nobody on the texans right now that's
11:42going to say yep we're just we're going to win no matter what we do like that there are enough there
11:47are enough things to really coach in that game that you don't lose your edge i think and uh and it's
11:53been two weeks in a row for the people that are out
11:56on the more negative it's two weeks in a row where you go in and you're just like okay let's
12:00whoop up on this team and even though despite the score of the cardinals game it didn't feel like
12:05you whooped up on them no exactly the way you could have didn't feel like the ravens game in week five
12:09on the positive side of the coin is i tried to both sides this this morning yeah very early in the day
12:15it's in the fourth quarter and this texans team has shown a knack for getting it together in the fourth
12:21quarter and the offense kind of just feels the the flow of the game and the most encouraging thing
12:27for me one was the the nick chubb run to see that he has that in his bag it bounced off of a few guys
12:33and just churned out extra yardage made the made the raiders defense look bad um but two it was
12:39finding kade stover finding xavier hutchinson um passing to jawar jordan right in the fourth quarter
12:45he did yeah and then and then the production and nico collins aside from the the game ceiling
12:52there the beautiful reception he had um the game ceiling defensive pass interference p.i's yeah the
12:59p.i's thank you to lonnie johnson for finally doing something for the texans he finally helped us win
13:03some games yeah i'll i'll add the jaden higgins third and five that's what i was thinking of it
13:08was huge that was his only catch of the day but it was a monster which and again the the ability to
13:14kind of feel the flow of the game and find your opportunities the it never feels good or anything
13:20and you don't i i think you don't necessarily quite believe it with the texans offense yet but you have
13:26to give credit to cj stroud and you have to give credit to nick credit to nick cayley in the fourth
13:31quarter for figuring out where the weaknesses actually were yep and i think there's a lot to
13:37give credit to cj stroud obviously kaylee i still i give kaylee credit for the improvements the
13:43offensive line has made and i give him a little bit of an excuse and that i i just i don't they
13:48they just don't have enough genuinely tough and physical offensive line they don't have enough
13:52dudes i mean they're just getting flat out manhandled on some of those zone runs they're just
13:56getting destroyed do you want to hear d'amico that includes the tight ends do you want to hear
14:00yeah it was bad yesterday do you want to hear d'amico on how the defense played or how they
14:05couldn't run the football on offense uh let's hear about the defense okay we challenged our our team
14:10our defense right to get a turnover in the first quarter that hadn't happened for us all year
14:15and for sting to show up how he did uh and get a not only a turnover but to go score we needed points
14:23bad and stingley showed up and made a huge play for our team like we needed that play stingley did
14:29outstanding awareness by him to be able to make that play not only just pick it off but to go score
14:34really proud of him right continue to try and he continues to make plays so great play by him
14:40uh overall the defensive performance there's too many explosive plays like that that's that's not
14:47what we're about like we got to clean up the communication the tackling is not good that that's
14:53not the defensive performance that we look for and so we have to play better yeah the the big plays
14:58really i mean tell the whole story there was one it was like back to last season again they they
15:03allowed one sustained drive in that game and all right cool it's gonna happen you know uh you you you keep
15:10holding teams to just if you hold them to one sustained drive in the game it's the the big play
15:15is is just capable of and if you relax a little bit and you're just not on uh on all the details
15:21there it happens the one thing about the defense that i guess you know you talk about okay what what
15:26what should we really be worried about it's that yeah the miles bryant is you know your sixth best
15:33safety at the beginning of the year and now he's one of your starting safety yeah yeah he had he had a
15:37rough couple there were a few plays he'd like to have back yesterday here was domico ryans on the
15:42team's inability to run the football yeah the main thing is we we couldn't run the football right we
15:47didn't control the line of scrimmage how we needed to control the line of scrimmage they were they got a
15:51lot of negative uh not a lot of tackles for losses right knocked us back a few times and you know we
15:57didn't run the ball well and flip on the flip side of that they were able to run the ball effectively
16:03and that was the difference you know in the game we control the line of scrimmage better and we can
16:08sustain drives a little bit better uh to be in better control of the game the um yeah and that's the
16:15biggest thing of uh some of the stuff that they were doing to to keep the receivers from getting
16:21separation uh like when they're playing that coverage you really should be able to run the ball
16:26um cj is you know quarterbacks versus two man uh can run for some chunks too and that's like there
16:33were times where especially man in the first three quarters i know that uh i went back and i listened
16:40to the tv copy really quickly and in the first half they were they were saying well you know cj is his
16:45feet are unsettled and a lot of times he's got people in his face well some of those times that's
16:48after he he'd been in the pocket for like five seconds oh yeah and then scrambled out and yeah
16:53there was somebody in his face yeah um but but that's where those courage is you you should be
16:59able to run the ball versus that and they just they weren't there were just too many tackles for a loss
17:04um and a lot of it at times in the run game i was more i was way more disappointed in the offensive
17:11line in the run game and the tight ends than i was in pass protection i didn't i honestly i was
17:16kind of shocked when i when i went back and watched the tv that they were citing pass protection as much
17:21of an issue and i think that fueled some of the things i was seeing on social media during the
17:24game where people talking about how cj was running for his life and everything i'm like well you
17:28like after five seconds of holding the ball yeah yep that doesn't that's not on the o-line no nope
