00:00We got the Raiders coming to town this week.
00:01Here was D'Amico Ryans yesterday.
00:03What challenges do the Raiders' defense, what do they pose?
00:09When it comes to the Raiders' defense, Max Crosby definitely sticks out amongst that defense.
00:14He's a very disruptive player, run game and pass game.
00:18He does a really good job playing with good effort, finishing.
00:21So he's a guy we definitely have to have awareness for of where he is.
00:26He'll align at both sides at any given time.
00:28So we have to know where he is, and we have to make sure we're outworking him.
00:33We've got to get hands on him.
00:34We've got to finish him.
00:35He's a good player.
00:35We've got good players.
00:36We've just got to outwork him.
00:38Okay.
00:39Basically, Max Crosby.
00:40That's the Raiders' defense.
00:41And then you guys crashed our text line with everybody reminding us of Ed Reed.
00:46Yeah, good call.
00:46Way to go, Texters.
00:47Yeah, good job.
00:48That was the obvious one.
00:50I can't even remember how bad an actual contract it was.
00:53It was three years, 15 million bucks.
00:56Per year?
00:57No, no, no.
00:57It was only five million a year.
01:00But he played like four games.
01:02Yeah, that was a bad contract.
01:04But it was for the reasons that it was a bad contract that made it even worse than the dollar.
01:07Yeah, yeah.
01:08You question the coaches.
01:09And how much did they?
01:10And they let go of Daniel Manning.
01:13Glover Quinn.
01:13Glover Quinn, excuse me, for him.
01:15Yeah, that was...
01:16Well, no, Daniel was still on the team in 13.
01:18They let go of Glover Quinn.
01:19They definitely let go of Glover Quinn.
01:21Ended up, you know, being a very good and viable safety for a long time.
01:25Yeah.
01:25So, as far as Max Crosby goes, though, Max Crosby, yes, very good.
01:31Max Crosby in short yardage situations really comes up big.
01:35It's, yeah, Sean.
01:36Sean's got his head in his hands.
01:38Oh, no.
01:40Say it ain't so...
01:41Now, some of the plays I've seen Max Crosby making short yardage, it's where he's knifing
01:46through and making a tackle for a loss.
01:47The Texans, by and large, have been pretty good at avoiding those types of errors.
01:51Those were the things the Texans offensive line did last year.
01:54This year, they're much better at being a united front, but they still, in those short
01:58yardage situations, aren't getting the push that you want.
02:01But they're not giving up tackles for a loss with as much regulatory.
02:05They did give up one on that first, before the, before the inadvertent direct snap on
02:11that series last week, they did have a tackle for a tackle for loss and short yardage.
02:15Yeah.
02:15But, so, like, he's a really, really good player.
02:18The biggest problem with the Raiders defense is that they're just on the field too much.
02:21Yeah.
02:22The offense, offense is last in the league in sacks and they're last in the league in rushing.
02:27Those are, that is not a recipe for sustained drives.
02:30It is not.
02:30Both offensive tackles, Sean, for the Raiders are in the top three for sacks allowed.
02:37And one of them, the left tackle, I refuse to learn their names, hasn't even, hasn't
02:42even been starting the whole season.
02:43Yeah.
02:44And yet he's in the top three in sacks allowed.
02:46I feel like.
02:47They both have double digit sacks allowed.
02:48Okay.
02:49Well, maybe we get some sacks from Willie Anderson and Daniil Hunter this week.
02:52Then Daniil had one at the end of the game that Will was on top of like a half second later.
02:57Um, but they, they've not been getting the quarterback on the ground and the defense has
03:01been playing fine.
03:02They're winning football games right now.
03:03So I'm not upset about it.
03:04Teams are doing everything they can to, to limit those guys.
03:07And it's, and it helps out the defensive backs because there's a, you go back to that chiefs
03:11game.
03:12There were, there were times where Will Anderson was getting blocked by a tight end and a wide
03:18receiver.
03:18You talk about, you know, and Pat Mahomes is sitting back there and they've got max
03:22protection on the other side too.
03:24Mahomes has two guys out on routes being covered by five guys.
03:28That's how much I respect Will Anderson and Daniil Hunter.
03:31The teams are doing everything they can to limit them.
03:34So you really, you can't look at the sack numbers with those guys to measure their impact.
03:38You just have to look at the overall performance of the defense.
03:41My favorite play that popped up on social media this week in full force, because Will Anderson
03:45was mic'd up for this game.
03:47So a lot of his stuff has popped up on social this week.
03:50The chip that he had on Trey McBride.
03:52Yeah.
03:53That was fun.
03:53That was beautiful.
03:54I told you about it.
03:55I forgot to send you the clip.
03:56Yeah.
03:56Yeah.
03:56It was beautiful.
03:57Well, that's what, and you know, you talk about seeing the guy that D'Amico is about
04:01to talk about here, Brock Bowers.
04:03They, they got creative in the fourth quarter in ways to, to try to limit him.
04:08Here's his Raiders offense.
04:09I think, you know, it's, they have really some good players when I, the first player that jumps
04:15out to my mind is, is Bowers, right?
04:17The tight end.
04:18He's a, a truly dynamic tight end.
04:21You know, see many tight ends like him who he aligns all over the field.
04:24He's not just aligned at the tight end position.
04:27He lines at the wire receiver position and he runs wire, wire receiver routes.
04:31So he's, he presents a tough challenge for us matchup wise, kind of like on the flip side
04:37with Crosby, you know, you got to know where Bowers is at all time.
04:41And he does a really great job of catching the football.
04:44He can run every route on the route tree.
04:47So he's not just one trick on, he can do, he can do it all.
04:50So I really respect his game.
04:52Really love this game when he was at Georgia as well.
04:55I think he's one of the best tight ends in, in the lead right now.
04:58And then when I go to the backfield and you see the bag, Jenty, like, and what he's capable
05:03of doing, I know they haven't ran for a ton of yards, but when you watch the film and
05:08you watch this young, young man run the football, he's a, he's probably one of the best when
05:13it comes to contact balance, like he finds a, finds a way to jump through tackles and
05:19continue to make guys miss tackle.
05:21He plays tough, plays behind his pads.
05:23I really tough runner that I respect a lot.
05:26I think he has a really bright future, you know, in our league.
05:29So those two players are the guys that stick out to me the most and they can,
05:33um, definitely they can definitely make some big plays on you.
05:37So you have to be aware of those guys at all times.
05:39Yeah. Ashton Jenty. Um, he has 700 yards rushing this year, but the, the overall
05:45sledding, man, really, really tough sledding. They're last in the league and rushing.
05:49They rush for 70 yards per game. Everything that D'Amico just said there is true.
05:54And, uh, he breaks tackles. He does all those things, but sometimes he's breaking three tackles
05:58to make three yards. It's a very Joe mixing type of situation. And he's a rookie.
06:03Is that as you pointed out yesterday, at least Josh Jacobs, uh, he, he was able to have some
06:08individual success as he was getting beat up on a bad team with Ashton Jenty. It just feels like
06:13he doesn't have a chance. It's gotta be super frustrating for him, man. And he is, you gotta
06:17watch out for him as a receiver too. He's done some damage as a receiver. You look at the Raiders
06:22receiving yards, uh, their leaders, their third leading receiver currently is Jacoby Myers.
06:27I was just going to say that Jacksonville Jaguars traded one of them. I remember he was traded
06:32mid season and he's still their third leading receiver. It's like when Ryan Gusto got traded
06:36by the Astros at the trade deadline. And he finished with like the fourth most innings
06:40on the team. Yeah. Uh, so currently Ashton Jenty of guys who are still actively on the
06:45roster, he's their third leading receiver. Brock Bowers, number one, Trey Tucker is second.
06:49He's a good player. He's right. And he's, I think he would be, he would be having a much
06:55more impressive season. If he had a quarterback who could throw the football Gino Smith, just
06:59man, like some of the Aaron throws he makes and some of the things like some of the simple
07:04stuff, he really just can't do it consistently anymore. The thing that he does do sometimes
07:08is he gets into a rhythm finding Brock Bowers, which are typically easier throws to make.
07:13And when teams lose track of Brock Bowers, it's a, it's, it's gotta be a thing that kind of
07:18like with Trey Tucker last week, cause it's going to drive a defensive coordinator crazy,
07:23but like late in the down when Gino Smith does scramble and find Doc Bowers in a Travis
07:28Kelsey type fashion that powers has a knack for getting, finding the soft spot in the coverage.
07:33And then if it's on time and in rhythm, he can run through zones and carve them up really
07:37well. So I think they're going to be very dialed in versus Brock Bowers. I think in some ways
07:43it's, it's a, the Texans are matched up better versus Brock Bowers just because he does line
07:49up like a wide receiver more than Trey McBride does. So it's, it's a little bit more clear
07:54cut what you're getting and what your challenges are, as opposed to when Brock Bowers is blocking
07:58for a second or two and then releasing out into a route.
08:01But he's, I mean, D'Amico nailed the two game wreckers on this team and wrecked many games
08:07this year because the Raiders have only won two games of Max Crosby and Brock Bowers are
08:10elite.
08:11Speaker 1.: You're a, your Notre Dame guy, Michael mayor is down at sixth and they're receiving.
08:16He hasn't developed the way I had hoped. He was second round pick. So he's shown up a
08:20couple of times that Jaguars game. I told you, he, he, he showed up in a couple moments,
08:24but he's only got 10 receptions on this. Yeah. He's his, he's just a cut below the level of athlete.
08:29you need to be to be the tight end.
08:30Everybody thought he'd be coming out of Notre Dame.
08:32Yeah.
08:32Just not athletic enough, but a good player.
08:36I'd take him to the Texans, you know, all right.
08:39Pain and Pendergast healthy.
08:41That's the question.
08:41Yeah.
08:42Yeah.
08:42That's your tight end.
08:43Can you stay healthy?
08:44Yep.
08:44They just gave Revin Jordan extension.
08:46Yeah.
08:47Maybe he is to tear your ACL.
08:49Revin Jordan is a more, he's who was the guy that used to be in camp forever, but never
08:54Lonnie Ballantyne.
08:55Yeah.
08:55Lonnie Ballantyne.
08:57Lonnie Ballantyne was irrelevant.
08:58He was on the roster forever, but he got injured every single training camp.
09:01Yeah.
09:02I don't know that he ever played a game for the Texans.
09:03Revin Jordan, we at least know for sure that he can, he can do good things in regular season
09:08games.
09:08And in playoff games.
09:09He has 76 yard touchdown.
09:10But he's just had, he's had all these injuries.
09:13They love him.
09:13Yeah.
09:14I love the idea of him, but I just, I don't remember him.
09:17Well, you're going to get a dose of him at least in training camp next year.
09:21So yesterday we played the, we played Colin Cowherd.
09:24He he's got the highest ranking on the Texans of anybody I've seen who puts power rankings
09:29out there, but he might be a liar.
09:31Here's Colin Cowherd just to relitigate this here.
09:35This is him saying he loves the Texans at number three and that he loves and has always
09:39loved CJ Stroud.
09:40Number three.
09:41I think the Texans defense is the best unit in pro football.
09:45They're eight and old.
09:46If they can just score 20 points, number one scoring defense.
09:50I mean, they faced that Rams offense early in the season, held them to 14 points.
09:54And I've always liked CJ Stroud.
09:56I don't get the criticisms.
09:57If you give him two and a half seconds, he's outstanding.
10:01I really like Houston.
10:03I think they're going to make the AFC championship.
10:05I'm not sure who they're going to face probably Denver, but I think the Texans right now are
10:11a bye, bye, bye.
10:13Okay.
10:13He's always loved CJ.
10:15Always loved CJ Stroud.
10:17Always means to me going back since as far as he can remember.
10:22Yeah.
10:22Yeah.
10:23I just, I just, it seemed to me like there was something I heard differently from Colin
10:26Cowherd not long ago.
10:28Yeah.
10:28He brought up the Ohio state thing, but I think this is more, this is in the same sort of
10:32ran it because the Ohio state thing, Hey, there's been no Ohio state quarter quarterbacks
10:36that have made it recently in the NFL.
10:38That's just sort of a fact that people lean on.
10:41Well, yeah, which is real quick to point that out.
10:43Almost every great quarterback, you can look at his alma mater and be like, oh yeah, there
10:46was never a great quarterback before that guy.
10:49Yeah.
10:49We did that exercise.
10:49There's such a rare thing that yeah, you can't pin it down.
10:52There's no quarterback factories out there.
10:54This was what Colin Cowherd said about CJ Stroud during training camp.
10:58This was in August of CJ's rookie year.
11:01If you told me today on August 8th, Tuesday, Tuesday, August 8th, I had to pick one that
11:10would miss.
11:12I would probably pick CJ Stroud from all the things I've heard in camp, rookie defensive
11:18head coach, rookie offensive coordinator, weird owner below average roster.
11:27Like, no, he's not talented enough to overcome that.
11:32Like Jared Goff, when he had Jeff Fisher and that staff was not talented enough to overcome
11:38the mess.
11:39Then he got an offensive coach, Andrew Whitworth at left tackle.
11:43Then it worked.
11:45But if you said today, I've got to pick one today after what I've heard in camp, what I've
11:49seen, the video highlights, all the stories.
11:52I've been following all of them.
11:53If I had to pick one that just won't work, I don't know if CJ Stroud is good enough to
11:58overcome rookie coach, rookie coordinator, impulsive, odd owner, and a roster right now
12:05that today rebuilds.
12:06He's going to call Cal impulsive and yeah, they, it's for a couple of years there.
12:12Cal had the reputation of being impulsive because he fired David Cully after one year
12:16and then, and then he fired, but lovey, but to get, to get D'Amico Ryan's, it was hard
12:22for people to kind of separate the, the reality from the narrative they wanted to believe.
12:27That doesn't sound to me like somebody who's always loved CJ.
12:30At first, at first it sounded like he was just saying that it was, you know, because
12:34he was in a bad situation, but then he turned it into, he's not talented enough to overcome
12:38all of that, you know?
12:40And then he goes on to be apparently either, he was either wrong about just how bad a situation
12:45it was in Houston or CJ Stroud was talented enough to overcome all of it.
12:49Did they cheat owners?
12:50I can't remember.
12:51No, no, no, no.
12:51I don't have as good a memory for stuff like this.
12:53Cal McNair is still the owner.
12:54Okay.
12:54So somehow we came over, you know, we came.
12:56Okay.
12:56Got it.
12:57Yeah.
12:57Yeah.
12:57I just wanted to check to be sure.
12:58The same.
12:59Yeah.
12:59Now the, of all the things that Coward kind of listed, the, the Bobby Sloick situation
13:05did not ultimately work out, but that didn't have a real effect on that upcoming season
13:09that Colin Coward was talking about.
13:10No, no, no, no.
13:11And especially when he's talking about like, how are these guys going to fare this year?
13:14Yeah.
13:14And plus he was basically on highlights you've seen out of camp, which nobody, nothing's more telling
13:19than highlights you've seen out of camp.
13:21Well, and then as I'm listening to that, I'm going, CJ had a good camp as a rookie.
13:24I remember, do you remember Zach Wilson's highlights that you were seeing out of camp
13:28or Anthony Richardson?
13:29Remember Anthony Richardson's highlights?
13:31He's out of camp.
13:32Dimes, man.
13:32Like if anybody should know that you can't rely on highlights out of camp, it would be,
13:37you'd think it would be Colin Coward studious as he is.
13:41Yeah, it would be.
13:42You would think.
13:43You would think.
