00:00The most overrated thing about Hollywood? I don't know if there is one anymore.
00:04I think, I feel like the influence of Hollywood has sort of waned.
00:12Hi, I'm Lisa Kudrow and I'm on set on my Hollywood Reporter cover shoot.
00:28I think now is the right time for the comeback to come back because it seems like every 10 years
00:34we're sort of chronicling what's happening in the industry.
00:38There's a new television landscape. So I think there is one now.
00:42Michael Patrick King had the idea. We were always talking about, you know, what would Valerie be doing now?
00:48And hey, it's about 10 years. And he had this idea.
00:52Valerie's offered the lead in a new sitcom, but it's written by AI.
00:56And I went, yeah, of course, of course she has to navigate that.
01:07Michael and I always feel really grateful when we get to do another because we were canceled right after the
01:14first season.
01:15So the second one was, okay, great. This is great.
01:18We realized doing this one that the first season was about reality TV and everyone thought, well, that's the end.
01:25It's the end of jobs for writers because networks, they're shifting to reality TV.
01:31It doesn't cost as much at the time for no unions to deal with.
01:35That's the end for us, you know, and it wasn't the end.
01:38And then that second season we did was that, you know, single camera dramedy, comedy, you know, edgy, gritty thing.
01:52But it was a time when no one's doing 24 episodes of something anymore much.
01:59And so writers' rooms were halved at that point.
02:04And it feels like now it's been halved again.
02:08So I don't know. It's just been something to realize we've chronicled, you know, two decades of what's happening in
02:17the television industry.
02:19So, yeah, and maybe this one is the end.
02:22Who knows?
02:23As we were writing this, it felt like every week was a huge new advancement in AI.
02:33And Tilly Norwood happened while we were writing this.
02:37And we just went, uh, what's going to happen?
02:40Like, I think we won't be able to catch up.
02:43Who knows what it's going to be like when we come out in a few months, even.
02:48Look, personally, I feel like in this industry, the audience lets you know what works and what doesn't.
02:57So if AI is not cutting it, then, yeah, then no one wants to spend money on something that an
03:10audience doesn't want to see.
03:18The most overrated thing about Hollywood?
03:21I don't know if there is one anymore.
03:22I think I feel like the influence of Hollywood has sort of waned for the public because it used to
03:31be kind of novel and exciting to see Hollywood people.
03:37Like, oh, they're just talking off the cuff on a talk show and maybe we could see the real them.
03:43And, you know, but now everybody is, you know, sort of curating their own reality show on social media.
03:50And so, yeah, I don't know that there's the same interest as there used to be.
03:56And I think that's a little healthier, maybe.
03:58I honestly think what is underrated about Hollywood is that it's not just superficial.
04:04Entertainment is not just superficial.
04:06It is something that human beings have forever needed.
04:10And it is really important for just, you need an escape.
04:17You need something to take your mind off of whatever reality is happening for you.
04:24So I think that is very underrated.
04:27It's not superficial nonsense.
04:29It is, it's really important.
04:38Success to me means getting to do things with nice people and having a good time.
04:48If I want to.
05:05I think that's at this point.
05:08Hope to see you.
