00:00Was I really seeking good, or just seeking attention?
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:06And today, we're discussing the most shocking shutouts and history-making,
00:10Oscar-worthy milestones from Hollywood's biggest night.
00:13Your name was called out.
00:16It got the hugest...
00:18Response.
00:18Yes.
00:19The snubs.
00:20Let's start with the heartbreaks.
00:22This year, it seems the Academy was looking for the new rather than the tried and true.
00:26It's difficult to be honest with the people who know you best.
00:30Who love you no matter what may be more difficult even.
00:32Why are you saying that?
00:33We do. We love him.
00:34You love him. I work for him.
00:35Despite massive buzz, the movie star category took a major hit.
00:39We're talking nothing for the likes of George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Oscar Isaac, and even Denzel Washington.
00:46Other names you won't see among the nominees this year are Jesse Plemons,
00:50Jeremy Allen White, Daniel Day-Lewis, or Joaquin Phoenix.
00:53It feels like almost a total changing of the guard,
00:56with younger stars like Timothee Chalamet dominating the conversation.
01:00So maybe no Julia or George, but their absence did make way for 11 first-time nominees this year,
01:05including Tiana Taylor, Jacob Elordi, Michael B. Jordan, and Rose Byrne.
01:09We have to talk about the specific heartbreak heard around the world, though.
01:12Paul Meskel was considered a heavy frontrunner for his performance as William Shakespeare in Hamnet.
01:17But in a move that felt like a literal tragedy, Meskel was left out of the race entirely.
01:22His co-star, Jesse Buckley, did make the cut for Best Actress,
01:25and honestly, it couldn't be more well-deserved.
01:29But as happy as we are for Jesse, Paul's absence has us asking the Academy,
01:33et tu, Brute?
01:34I have no talent awaiting.
01:39The women in my family see things.
01:42What do you see?
01:43While we're on devastating snubs, can we talk about Wicked for Good?
01:47Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
01:56After the first film defied gravity as well as all our expectations with 10 nominations,
02:01the sequel was completely shut out.
02:03That's right, zero noms.
02:05No one believed in you more than I did.
02:07The Academy totally ignored Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo,
02:10and everyone else who worked their magic on this movie,
02:13even though it had reportedly been shortlisted in several categories.
02:17Many thought that, at the very least, Ari would be a shoo-in,
02:20but the Academy popped that bubble for good.
02:22I couldn't be happier
02:24Though it is, I admit, the tiniest bit
02:30Unlike I anticipated
02:34And nothing for those costumes?
02:38Now that's just scandalicious.
02:40For a movie this big to go from 10 to 0 isn't just a snub, it's a freefall.
02:44The best director race is always a tough category,
02:48but this year was next level.
02:50Case in point, Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein landed a massive nine nominations,
02:55but the Academy inexplicably bypassed the visionary director himself.
02:58This is unholy, an abomination, an obscenity!
03:05He wasn't the only one.
03:06Geoffrey Panahi's It Was Just an Accident might have been a global favorite.
03:10Panahi received a screenplay nod, but he was snubbed for the director category.
03:14Actually, while we're on that, we're also scratching our heads over the international categories.
03:26France's Palme d'Or winner It Was Just an Accident was left out of Best Picture,
03:30and South Korean master Park Chan-wook was snubbed yet again.
03:34As no other choice failed to secure a single nomination,
03:37despite being a massive box office hit
03:39and receiving an almost 10-minute long-standing O at the Venice Film Festival.
03:50Even more concerning is the Best Actress category.
03:53The omission of breakout star Chase Infinity for one battle after another,
03:57the season's critical darling,
03:58leaves the lead actress category with practically no diversity this year.
04:02Infinity is fittingly in A-list company.
04:05Despite a Critics' Choice and Golden Globe nom,
04:08Amanda Seyfried was a shocking omission for her phenomenal work in The Testament of Anne Lee.
04:13Honestly, the fact that this movie was so overlooked is baffling.
04:16It's like a musical experience, I guess we would say.
04:18It's a musical experience? There's nothing like this movie anywhere.
04:21You can't compare it to anything.
04:22Anyway, she's joined on the sidelines by legends like Julia Roberts for After the Hunt,
04:27Jennifer Lawrence for Die My Love,
04:29and Tessa Thompson in Hedda.
04:31The supporting categories were just as brutal.
04:33After her big win last year,
04:35Emily Blunt failed to go back-to-back for the Smashing Machine,
04:38while the Marty Supreme duo of Odessa Azion and Gwyneth Paltrow was also bypassed.
04:43It just goes to show, on Oscar morning,
04:46no matter how big the name,
04:47nobody is a sure thing.
04:49He won't let me act.
04:50Yeah, no, that looked frustrating.
04:52What's the deal with that guy?
04:53Don't get me started.
04:54Yeah, you're running circles around him.
04:57Of course I am.
04:58Milestones and Takeaways
05:00One of the most fascinating trends this year
05:02is the group of powerhouse women who secured nominations
05:05while their famous male co-stars were left behind.
05:08First up, Rose Byrne is officially an Oscar nominee
05:11and the sole acting representative for the motherhood drama
05:14If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You.
05:15But I'm asking you a thing, an actual thing,
05:18a problem to fix that I need help with this.
05:20Am I supposed to just sit around and watch her fail
05:22and this is just gonna go on forever?
05:24What do I do?
05:24Then there's the comeback of the decade from Kate Hudson
05:27who earned a nod for the musical love story song Sung Blue
05:30even as co-star Hugh Jackman was overlooked.
05:33This marks her first Oscar nomination in 25 years.
05:36Oh my god, you guys!
05:40Oh my god, I'm so happy!
05:44And a huge shout-out goes to Weapons star Amy Madigan
05:47who landed a supporting actress nomination
05:49while co-stars like Josh Brolin missed out.
05:52Madigan made history,
05:53returning to the ballot 40 years
05:55after her first nomination in 1986.
05:58I think people related to that.
05:59It's a very different kind of a movie
06:02and people just got on board,
06:05especially with Anne Gladys.
06:06And speaking of movies that left their leading men in the dust,
06:09let's talk about F1.
06:11This film is a literal technical powerhouse
06:13and it's rare for a sports film
06:15to break into the top category like this.
06:17Yeah, she's got something.
06:18Yeah, you mean had something.
06:20But definitely snapping the high-speed corners.
06:24Unpredictable in the lows.
06:26Had trouble with the rears, turns 14, 16.
06:28And the final turn, maybe?
06:30No, that's on me.
06:31Yet it managed to race its way into a Best Picture nomination
06:34by dominating the sound and visual branches.
06:37But here's the surprise twist.
06:38It did it with zero acting nominations.
06:41That's right.
06:41Even with a massive name like Brad Pitt leading the charge,
06:45the Academy decided that the real star of the show
06:47was the high-octane filmmaking
06:49and the heart-pounding cinematography.
06:51Now, where'd you think you're going?
06:54Don't worry about me.
06:55Go celebrate.
06:57And we have to talk about the movie
06:58that's been living rant-free in our heads
07:00since its release,
07:01Netflix's animated sensation K-pop Demon Hunters.
07:04It was truly an honor to share the stage with you.
07:07So hot!
07:08And respectful.
07:10Oh no, the honor is ours.
07:12No, it was ours.
07:13No, it's ours.
07:14Ours.
07:15The fact that this movie is competing against giants like Zootopia 2
07:18shows that the Academy is finally ready to embrace
07:21the high-energy, global style of K-pop culture.
07:25But it didn't just land a nomination for Best Animated Feature,
07:28it's actually making history in the music categories too.
07:30You're my sort of pop, my heart.
07:33They're coming after the fans.
07:34We gotta stop this now.
07:36Pull me up, I won't stop.
07:38You're my sort of pop, my little sort of pop.
07:41The movie's massive hit, Golden,
07:43performed by the fictional group Huntrix,
07:45just became the first ever K-pop song
07:47to be nominated for Best Original Song.
07:49Written by EJ and Mark Sonnenblick,
07:51it became quite the global phenomenon,
07:54and if it wins, it'll be a historic moment for the genre.
07:57Flower-tide, no fears, no lies,
08:01there's who we're both there.
08:04One of the most emotional milestones is for the legendary Delroy Lindo.
08:08And the phone rang and I picked it up,
08:10and my son was on the other line,
08:12and it's perfect that I got the news from him.
08:14Yeah.
08:15Well, how did he tell you?
08:16I can't say it on the air.
08:18At 73 years old,
08:20Lindo finally secured his first ever Oscar nomination for Sinners.
08:24After decades of being one of Hollywood's most respected and often snubbed talents,
08:29his nod is being hailed as the emotional centerpiece of the season.
08:32Uh, it feels terrific.
08:34I mean, I'm still processing, if I'm really honest.
08:36Yeah.
08:36But it's, um, wonderful.
08:39And part of my response has to do with how positive everybody else's response has been.
08:45I have a lot of support, a lot of love.
08:47It feels really good.

09:03The biggest takeaway of 2026 is undoubtedly Ryan Coogler's Sinners.
09:08This film didn't just walk into the race.
09:10It shattered the all-time record with 16 nominations.
09:14That is like the big, oh my goodness, you know, it's original, it's fresh,
09:19and it's got a lot of momentum behind it.
09:21But, um, 16 nominations is really remarkable.
09:24Including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan,
09:26Best Supporting Actress for Wunmi Musaku, and Best Picture.
09:30It's the first ever horror movie of this kind to lead the field.
09:33And among the first ever nominees in the brand new Best Casting category.
09:37You know, one of the new awards, for the first time in 25 years,
09:40we have a brand new category, Best Casting, and Sinners picked up a nomination there.
09:45Needless to say, the 98th Academy Award nominations have officially proven
09:49that the only thing you can expect at the Oscars is the unexpected.
09:53This year's Best Picture race could be unpredictable,
09:55like Moonlight and La La Land in 2017.
