00:00Get ready to restart your engines.
00:06Are you ready?
00:07Yeah, ready when you are, Paul.
00:09Our trucking heroes are back.
00:12Ranger, off you go.
00:14Okay.
00:15These are the super heavyweight champions of the road.
00:19Just another day moving machines.
00:22It is very nerve-wracking. Very, very nerve-wracking.
00:25Wielding some of the heftiest hardware in the world.
00:29Lift it up, pinch it up.
00:31When every mile's a battle.
00:33Ding, ding, ding.
00:35Who's he comfortable?
00:36He's obviously totally ignored us.
00:38And every second counts.
00:40Because it's such a big machine, we're going to block the yard, so we need to be quick.
00:44These are the experts making light work.
00:47About half an inch off the yard there.
00:50Oh, God. Doing really well, actually.
00:52Of the largest loads imaginable.
00:55It is quite easy to make a catastrophic mistake.
01:00So put your pedal to the metal.
01:03We're committed now. This is it.
01:05Things are about to get...
01:07Trucking heavy.
01:10Start of the week off with a happy customer.
01:13It can only get worse from here, can't it, Mick?
01:15Today...
01:16Mark takes on a titanic train move.
01:28So you're slow and steady and wing it on a prayer.
01:33That must traverse through central Glasgow.
01:37For so long, we ain't going to make it in one turn.
01:40If we stayed in one lane, we're either ripping out the barriers or falling off the edge of the bridge.
01:44You get the wrong car at the wrong time.
01:47That's just awkward.
01:49While Dave navigates a single lane road.
01:52You don't run this on the grass or the bank.
01:55Don't throw the bag in the trailer in the ditch.
01:57Pulling a delicate 70-tonne transformer.
02:01If you throw them a day, it'll break hard.
02:04It sets the shocks off on the machine.
02:08In Sutton Coalfield sits a heavy haulier.
02:12That's spent four decades relocating locomotives.
02:16And transporting trains around Britain and beyond.
02:21Railway. Support. Services.
02:25We started moving trains in 1981.
02:28And progressively the business just grew and grew and grew.
02:32Anything unusual.
02:34Large loads, heavy loads, wide loads, high loads.
02:37Always up for a challenge.
02:42Today the man tasked with moving metaphorical mountains is Mark.
02:47But he's only been at the firm for less than a month.
02:51There's no manual, this is how you do that.
02:54And every single logo is completely different to the others.
02:57So, you know, you've got to think on your feet.
02:59And think, right, how am I doing this one?
03:00How am I doing that one?
03:02It's more mental than physical, this job.
03:06However, he's been heaving heavy loads for years.
03:10I've done a variety of roles.
03:13Containers, curtain siders, flatbeds, low load of work.
03:15So, I've got a vast experience in all different things.
03:18But every day is a school day.
03:20So, no two days are ever the same.
03:23No two hours are the same either.
03:25In the world of trucking.
03:27Along the way, trains are not the only unusual things he's transported.
03:40In one week alone, it was quite comical.
03:43I delivered dinosaur to Blackpool.
03:45And then a torpedo to the Royal Navy down in Devon.
03:48And then delivered mermaids up to Blackpool as well.
03:51So, yeah.
03:52And that was in one week.
03:54So, it's just like a natural process really.
03:57It's getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
03:59This morning, he's tasked with handling a heavy piece of history.
04:06Ten retired trains from the Glasgow subway nicknamed the Clockwork Orange.
04:13These carriages have been running for up to 44 years.
04:17With the longest serving covering 2.6 million miles.
04:23Spanning almost 13 metres.
04:25And each weighing in at a terrific 20 tonnes.
04:29Equivalent to four African elephants.
04:32This will be a monster move.
04:38Part of a big recycling project.
04:41These relics have a new life ahead of them.
04:44We've got these going into there.
04:46This little tiny compound.
04:48They're being upcycled into offices.
04:49So, that'll be interesting.
04:53Mark has made the 300-mile journey north to Glasgow.
04:57Where the decommissioned trains reside.
05:00And the rest of the crew are waiting.
05:04See, it's a team effort.
05:05It's not just one person doing it.
05:07So, we all just sort of like, right, crack on, get this done, get that done.
05:13Transporting all ten carriages at once is a no-go.
05:17So, they'll be shifted one at a time.
05:20To begin, Mark must place his trailer perfectly in line with the first carriage to be moved.
05:27I do.
05:29Precision parking complete.
05:31He can now uncouple the tractor unit.
05:34But the carriages are currently sitting on concrete.
05:39To get them loaded, we'll require some clever construction.
05:44Just building the ramp.
05:46So, we get the train up onto the back of my trailer.
05:50So, we'll just winch it straight up there.
05:54The team must create a custom railway line strong enough to carry the 20-ton carriage.
06:02They use railway sleepers to build a gradient up to the trailer where the pre-installed tracks are ready for the cargo.
06:10Just putting the supports underneath it so it don't buckle the rails or anything to fall off.
06:15That's it.
06:16So, he's got these bits now just to pack it out with.
06:19Down there.
06:20Happy days.
06:22To join the rails lengthways.
06:26Each is bolted together with fish plates.
06:29Then cross braced with toy bars.
06:32To ensure the distance between them stays constant.
06:39Next, the team must raise the 20-ton carriage.
06:43They use a compressor linked to hydraulic jacks.
06:48We're just getting set up at the moment.
06:50So, we're getting the hydraulic rams on.
06:52Just getting the winch out all ready really.
06:54It's just a process of setting it all up at the moment before we can get going.
06:58A little bit more for the back end.
07:02First side ready to rock and roll.
07:04Now, the team can slide lengths of track under the train's wheels.
07:15We're lifting up the train to put the rail underneath it because the moment it's on concrete so it's not going to run.
07:19So, we need it on the rail and then we can just run it straight up on the rail, straight up to the truck.
07:29Getting the track safely set is vital.
07:34Just measuring at the moment to make sure that the gauge is right.
07:36Gauge being between the wheels.
07:39So, it don't fall off, basically.
07:42Get it wrong.
07:43When it comes time to roll, the train could derail.
07:47Putting the move in jeopardy.
07:51Might need to bring it out just a couple of mill by the fields of it.
07:55It burns that flange.
07:57What should it be for?
07:59I should be right like that now.
08:00Get it out.
08:03There we go.
08:09Track's properly placed.
08:11The team can now slowly lower the train down and onto the rails.
08:15So, it's just final checks now.
08:19Just going around checking it all.
08:20Make sure everything's all lined up before we start moving it.
08:26Now is the moment of truth.
08:30The team starts to winch the chunky carriage up and onto the trailer.
08:34Will the temporary track tremble and the logo go lopsided?
08:49Coming up, a busy yard could derail the mood.
08:54It just makes it more of a challenge.
08:55They might get a bit upset if we knock their cars out of the way.
08:59And for Dave.
09:01This is a hill here.
09:02It looks nothing but it just goes and goes again, which can kill the lorry off.
09:07A hill climb could spell disaster.
09:10If you get it wrong, you'll be going backwards down.
09:12You don't want to be that person.
09:13In Glasgow, the RSS team are moving a 20-ton tube train.
09:33Happy?
09:35To load it, they've had to build a temporary track.
09:38Ready?
09:42So they can winch the carriage into place.
09:47Yeah!
09:54Now it's time for the climb.
09:57Up and onto the back of the trailer.
10:01The team take it inch by inch.
10:08This carriage used to travel up to 80 miles per hour.
10:15Today, it's travelling at just 0.1.
10:25Finally, it's made it up the ramp safely.
10:30Time to make it secure for transport.
10:34Yeah, it went quite well.
10:35It's on the trailer, so that's good.
10:38You do have the old ass twitchy moment, sure.
10:42But...
10:45If anything goes wrong, it goes wrong at the end of the day.
10:48That's why we take it slow and steady.
10:50I don't know why they're packing up all their bits as well.
10:53I'm now starting to chain her down and keeping her secure.
10:56But...
10:58You don't really want this sliding down or falling off the back.
11:02And driving down the road on itself, really.
11:04So...
11:06We've got all these chains here to chain it up with.
11:09And then...
11:11That way...
11:14She's secured to the trailer.
11:16And she ain't gonna go nowhere, really.
11:18To carry this colossal carriage, Mark will rely on his ever-reliable daft tractor unit,
11:33capable of hauling the heftiest of loads.
11:36It's a tough transporter that can take on a train.
11:40Mark carefully reattaches his unit to the gooseneck trailer.
11:49All hooked up, he can make tracks for the city centre.
11:54Now comes the fun part, getting the bloody thing out of here.
12:01But getting through the yard will be tricky.
12:05Am I reversing all the way down? Fuck that shit.
12:10The industrial estate is full of tight turns.
12:15Fucking car.
12:17They always park on an exit at this junction, don't they, eh?
12:21And pesky parked cars.
12:24You get cars parked both sides, especially across the entrance there.
12:29Just makes it more of a challenge, so...
12:31Try and knock the twat, really.
12:33But I don't think they'd like it.
12:34They might get a bit upset if we knock their cars out of the way.
12:36So you're slow and steady and...
12:41Wing it on a prayer.
12:43There's a goddamn cyclist behind me as well, trying to come down.
12:46That's alright, he's buggering off now.
12:51In such a vast vehicle, there's an obstacle around every corner.
12:55Ah, what's this car doing down here?
12:59But when it comes to a game of chicken, between a car and a lorry carrying a train,
13:06there's only going to be one winner.
13:09This is the fun part now, you see all these cars coming around there,
13:13and now he's like, oh shit, there's a big lorry there, er, er, no, I'm stuck.
13:16Yeah, well done, well done. Give that man a banana.
13:18Mark has finally made it to the main road.
13:24Great place to park a fan as well. Ingenious, that.
13:30But joining a live lane while hauling a train...
13:35...is a real pain.
13:36Now comes the fun part, getting across there.
13:46The rolling fields of this tranquil Suffolk countryside might look like the typical rural edil.
13:55But scratch the surface, and on their edge...
14:00If you just bear with me, I'll just put you free.
14:01Look's a six decade old company with a fleet of very heavy metal monsters
14:08that move massive machines across the UK and beyond.
14:15And at the port of Harwich, Dave Flashnappit,
14:20one of HC Wilson's most experienced drivers,
14:24has arrived from the hook of Holland with his latest colossus.
14:28An Austrian company brings us by road to there,
14:32and we transfer by mobile crane on the quayside,
14:35because the problem is the Austrian truck that brings it up
14:38is too long to go under the sides.
14:41Just repressurising the trailer,
14:43because it's been stood for a little while overnight,
14:46so if you don't repressurise, that'll upset itself once it starts moving.
14:48At just shy of 70 tonnes and four metres high,
14:55the electrical transformer that has travelled from Germany
15:00is just as tall and almost nine times heavier than a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
15:06As the crow flies, the British leg of the Transformers' journey
15:13will see it travel 185 miles from Harwich
15:17to an electrical substation in Rochdale, Lancashire.
15:21But Dave's first stop is much closer.
15:23Today we're going from Harwich back to Elmswell,
15:26which is our depot, near Berist Edmonds and Suffolk,
15:29which is to take us approximately about two hours.
15:30He should have no trouble pulling it there.
15:35Boasting a 16-litre engine,
15:38Dave's eight-valve Scania R580 can drag an impressive 150 tonnes.
15:50Today's trailer and transformer tip the scales at a combined 125 tonnes.
15:57Whilst that's chicken feed for his tractor unit,
16:01it's way too weighty for some roads.
16:06We've got a little bit of running around
16:08because we can't go to main highways
16:10because of bridge constructions and different things.
16:13Helping Dave and another transformer
16:16navigate back to base in convoy
16:19will be a team of support drivers
16:21led by Ian Slim Godfrey.
16:26The two trucks snake their way through Harwich
16:42and onto the open road.
16:44But then...
16:45Cars don't cover past your slip.
16:49Cars don't cover past your slip.
16:51The convoy gets split.
16:54Two cars go in between as well, a car and a van.
16:57We tried to bring them round,
17:00but they're not paying attention on the wide bit,
17:03so they're going to have to stay there now.
17:05There's not a lot we can do about it.
17:07Dave knows that this is a potentially dangerous situation.
17:11And if you separate the two trucks,
17:13you get a member of public in between the two of you,
17:15who doesn't understand what's going on,
17:17then all of a sudden you've braked,
17:19he hasn't realised,
17:20and you've got a car jammed in between the two of you,
17:22which the consequences are not worth thinking about.
17:24On this occasion,
17:26the sandwiched drivers decide to take evasive action.
17:28You've got a car coming to the side to him.
17:38Flash, you've still got a transit.
17:41That's right behind you.
17:43Yeah, OK, it's no problem.
17:45So you keep out of everybody's way as much as possible,
17:48but the last thing you want is a car trying to be impatient
17:51and come round at the last moment.
17:5361-year-old Dave has seen it all before.
17:58His dad was also an HGV driver,
18:02and the haulage game courses through his veins.
18:05I've been driving lorries since I was 25,
18:09and no two days are ever the same.
18:11More or less, if you can dream it,
18:13we've done it somewhere along the line.
18:15Oh, we've got another big gap here, Dave.
18:18All right, mate, yeah.
18:22Dave must join the A14 at the base of a hill.
18:26Yeah, go for it.
18:28To protect him from oncoming traffic, Slim moves out first.
18:33They come too quick off a hill,
18:35they can't see around the corner as they come out behind you.
18:38You've also got to watch them coming down the inside
18:40if you move too quick.
18:41They'll then come up inside of you and realise they've run out of road.
18:46As the lads leave one hill behind, another climb begins.
18:51And when your rig tips the scales at 125 tonnes,
18:56that can spell trouble.
18:59This is a hill here.
19:01It looks nothing but it just goes and goes again,
19:04which can kill the lorry off.
19:06If you miss a gear or get it wrong,
19:10that can bring you to a stop.
19:16Coming up,
19:18mark rails and risky road users.
19:23Oh, must get in front of the truck.
19:24What a stupid mentality.
19:25The problem is they don't realise the truck will slow down so quickly.
19:32And a narrow road puts Dave and his cargo in danger.
19:37They'll get no brake lights.
19:38Normally they expect to see a brake light when you're slowing up.
19:40I'm slower now.
19:55Up in Scotland.
19:56Heavy haulier Mark has been tasked with transporting a decommissioned subway carriage.
20:06Eventually it will be upcycled into an office space.
20:10But first, he needs to get it to site.
20:13Mark must muscle his way 2.8 miles through the heart of Glasgow.
20:28To Argyle Street.
20:31One of the main shopping roads in the city centre.
20:37It's just slow and steady.
20:39You've just got to make sure I'm OK.
20:42And then make sure that all the other idiots on the road
20:45are aware that we're here.
20:48Because half the time they don't think outside their own little cars.
20:51So you have to do the thinking for them as well as yourself.
20:56So it's just constantly checking mirrors and things like that.
21:00To complete the 15-minute trek,
21:03Mark will be relying on a support vehicle during every mile of the Mega Move.
21:08He's behind me. He's not quite an escort van.
21:11He's not live read up.
21:12It's a support vehicle, really.
21:15Because obviously he hasn't got the beacons on the route like that, so...
21:19But only two minutes in,
21:22he hits a problem.
21:24Well, we're going to be up to all the car drivers
21:27because we'll be hogging both lanes in a bit down through these roadworks.
21:30Roadworks on the planned route have shrunk the three-lane highway down to two.
21:37It's now too narrow to fit his big rig safely into just one lane.
21:42We struggle both lanes from next until near the cones.
21:47Roadworks cleared.
21:52The next challenge is far more perilous.
21:55The bridge that leads to the city centre.
21:58To cross it without ripping up the road furniture,
22:02Mark has to command its full width.
22:08You can see we're driving down the middle of the road because obviously we're so long,
22:12we ain't going to make it in one turn if we stayed in one lane.
22:16We're either ripping out the barriers or falling off the edge of the bridge.
22:21So it seems to just drive down the middle of the road,
22:24hog both lanes, and I've got Paul behind me blocking that lane as well.
22:27So if anyone's stupid enough to come up on the inside like this car is about to do,
22:31then it's his own bloody yard fault.
22:36A driver in a rush has run around the near side of the lorry,
22:40risking a wreck.
22:45Oh, must get in front of the truck. What a stupid mentality.
22:48Witnessing dangerous driving is nothing new to this experience tollier.
22:54People get in their car and they switch their brains off.
22:57I swear.
22:59It's like when driving and queuing, you wouldn't see them undertaken in the supermarket
23:02or anything like that with their trolleys, you know.
23:04Oh, must get in front of you because you've got a full basket.
23:07But they do it in the cars.
23:11Bridge behind him.
23:13It's full steam ahead into the city centre.
23:17I'd say he's got a part of all the bloody idiots on the road.
23:21I'd say you have to do the thinking for them as well as yourself when you're driving trucks.
23:24Is he in or out? What's he doing?
23:29Oh, no, he's not. That's nice.
23:36The top of our location is at Nargile Street in Glasgow, which is literally just up here.
23:39But to get there, Mark must manoeuvre his mammoth load through a terrifyingly tight gate.
23:52So we're going to have to take the whole road up and swing it in.
23:56So it's nice and fun to try and get it in there.
24:01Oh, do it, do it, do it.
24:02On his way back to base in East Anglia.
24:09This is a hill here. It looks nothing but it just goes and goes again, which can kill the lorry off.
24:14Dave is trying to nurse a 68-tonne transformer off a steep incline.
24:22If you miss a gear or get it wrong, that can bring you to a stop.
24:31We've got this one and another one, which is a little bit naughty.
24:34If you get it wrong, you'll be going backwards down it.
24:37If the truck does slow to a stop, other road users could be in danger.
24:45The problem is they don't realise the truck will slow down so quickly
24:48because they'll get no brake lights.
24:49Normally they don't expect to see a brake light when you're slowing up.
24:56Losing control on a hill or anywhere could also harm his expensive cargo.
25:02That's the other thing with these transformers.
25:03They've got what they call a shock device on them.
25:07So if you throw them a barrel or brake harshly, it sets the shocks off on the machine.
25:13They can then determine where that was by the GPS locator.
25:18And if that's caused any damage inside the transformer, that's then down to you.
25:23Which can cause problems.
25:25The problem with the transformers, they're one-offs.
25:28So you can't just get another one off a shelf if you drop that one.
25:30That doesn't work like that.
25:31So you have got quite a bit of responsibility.
25:34You need to be trying to smooth but keep it going all the time so you're not stop, start, stop, start.
25:41You've got to be confident in what you do.
25:43Know what you're doing.
25:44Take your time.
25:45Don't hurry.
25:46Don't rush.
25:47Don't rush.
25:49As he finally makes it over the hill's brow, Dave must leave the A14 to avoid a weak bridge.
25:56And that is a 50 tonne gross.
26:00Whereas we get near that just with the empty trail on, before you even start putting anything on top.
26:07Because the power of it is torching, it's made of concrete.
26:10And after a certain while it deteriorates, they bring the weight levels down on the bridges all the time.
26:15We've got quite a few like that round this way now.
26:17You don't want to be playing roulette with them because it can just so quickly go wrong as it can go right.
26:22A hundred times you'll get away with it.
26:24The one time you get it wrong, everyone knows about it.
26:26Everyone knows you've done it.
26:27And you don't want to be that person.
26:28Way you go, Slim.
26:36With the bridge left safely intact, Dave rejoins the A14.
26:42But not for long.
26:45We only go to the next junction.
26:46We're coming off again.
26:47Because all these ones along here on this section on the next...
26:51Probably five miles are all old structures, so we're not laid on anything.
26:55So we have to divert through stone markers the next part.
27:04Now off the main road, Slim and his team of support drivers...
27:08Want another one of them vans up the front here if we can stop the roundabout?
27:12Yeah, watch it out, I'll come through.
27:14We'll need to protect and guide Dave and the other lorry all the way back to base.
27:19Just give me a clear run on the roundabout if you can, please, Slim.
27:25Weatherden Road is stopped.
27:34It's not a bad pull, but it's just easier if you can keep it going.
27:38Just makes life a little bit better.
27:41After a quarter of a century of HGV driving,
27:44Two years ago Slim's life was turned upside down when he suffered a stroke.
27:51I sat there for three months and got bored.
27:56And one day turned around to my partner and said, I'm going to buy a van.
28:00So with my savings, I bought a van, done it all up to the specifications required, put my name about.
28:13I've now got two vans, I've got several large companies I work for.
28:19I've got five subcontractors that work for me.
28:24And we are working together to make the job a lot better.
28:28The next challenge of this journey will test Slim's new skill set to its limit.
28:40We're going to wind our way through here in a minute and then we're going to turn right.
28:44But there's a side road halfway up that we need to block.
28:47You can't pass anywhere down there, not safely anyhow.
28:49You park here.
28:54Slim goes to the bottom of the single track road.
28:59Stop, stop, stop.
29:02Stop.
29:04You can't get through.
29:06Just wait there.
29:10If he and his team can't urge drivers to be patient.
29:15Two minutes.
29:16Two minutes.
29:17The two transformers could get stuck with nowhere to go.
29:24You got the wrong car at the wrong time.
29:26That's just awkward.
29:28You don't run this on the grass or the bank because that'll throw the bag in on the trail in the ditch.
29:32You've got two cars parked down here.
29:35It's going to be tight past the first one because it's opposite a telegraph pole.
29:38Safely at lane's end, Dave must now weave his massive rig through a busy village.
29:47You'll have to go that way.
29:49But getting in is proving problematic.
29:53A lot of traffic coming out of the village towards us and we can't pass them on that narrow pace.
29:59While one escort van watches the main road, Slim and his team scout ahead.
30:06The plan is to get Dave through the village of Elmswell, which is a feat in itself.
30:11The last one through is an Anglian water van.
30:16A white Anglian water transit.
30:22Here's the van.
30:23Once he gets the all clear, Dave finally enters Elmswell.
30:32But as he crosses its threshold, he needs all three decades of his heavy hauling nous to pick a path through its narrow streets and parked cars.
30:42Our biggest challenge for here is getting into the village where we are because at the moment we have a lot of new road works and housing going up.
30:51So the restrictions are quite a lot on us which aren't normally there.
30:54Normally we come round a wider street, which is an easier angle for turning and everything else.
31:00Hence the reason today we use three vans where we normally probably only have one.
31:04Hang on, wait there.
31:05Hang on, wait there.
31:06But with Slim and his band of brothers securing a route...
31:10Right, you're clear up to the crossroads.
31:12Yeah, right. There you go. Come through.
31:15Yeah, we're not coming up to you, sir.
31:17He'll be there in about one minute.
31:19Come and down, sir.
31:22Round, you can't flash.
31:24Give us a chance, we've got to get there first.
31:26It's just one more protected right turn.
31:29Yeah, you're clear down the lane.
31:30The bloke's just going to move the BMW.
31:32Until leg one of the Transformers UK journey is complete.
31:50In Glasgow, a train carriage has been rolled onto a lorry.
31:57Taken down an A road.
31:59Oh, must get in front of the truck. What a human mentality.
32:04And through the city centre.
32:07Now it must be offloaded.
32:10But first, Mark needs to make a turn.
32:14Too tight to be taken normally.
32:17That's where we're going.
32:19Clear enough.
32:21Luckily, his lorry has a sophisticated solution.
32:26We've got the independent race there, so we'll jump out in a sec and sort that out.
32:33Wait here a sec and sort the steering out.
32:36The trailer's wheels can be steered independently.
32:39All right, Mark.
32:40OK.
32:43Meaning the massive truck can turn in tight circles.
32:47Mark's support driver uses a remote to control the steering on the rear wheels to move the back end around.
33:08The width of the trailer means there's just centimetres to spare.
33:21But with a little help from his friend, Mark glides gracefully through the gap.
33:39Easy, really.
33:41Now to plan for the dismount.
33:46Right now, we're measuring everything out now.
33:48Working out where all the carriages are going to go today.
33:51The team must measure the perfect permanent position for the carriage.
33:56With nine more still to come.
33:59Get the first one wrong and they could run out of room.
34:03And after the trailer back and a bit close to the building, offload it.
34:08Calculation's complete.
34:12The trailer is carefully lined up.
34:15Hey, give us like a bit more room.
34:17Keep going, Mark.
34:19Lower down.
34:21And released.
34:27Now the team must use the telehandler to lift the weighty sections of pre-prepared track into position.
34:35Put it down from your side.
34:38Down from here.
34:42The track is set ready to receive the carriage.
34:49But there's a wall in the way of where the tractor unit and its winch would ideally go.
34:56Luckily, Mark has a clever solution.
35:00Can't get the truck in behind, so we can't just winch it straight off.
35:03So the snatch block is designed down there to be able to bring it back down on itself.
35:08And just give it a nice gentle roll off.
35:10The snatch block allows them to redirect the angle of the winch line that will be used to control the carriage's descent.
35:19Well, see, we've got the snatch block down there so we can whack a table and put it through back on itself without damaging the cable or anything.
35:32Finally, the team are ready to unload.
35:38They use gravity to roll the carriage off the sloping trailer.
35:43Ready!
35:44While the winch ensures there are no fears of a runaway train.
35:59Slowly it's lowered down the ramp.
36:03Until it's safely on flat ground.
36:06But now the carriage needs a little help to roll the final few feet.
36:12Have to push it.
36:15Ready!
36:21Manpower is not enough.
36:24So they call in the big guns.
36:27We've got the train down as far as we can.
36:32And now we're going to use the tele-handler to hook onto the train to pull it to the end of the track.
36:37So we can then park it up there, down there.
36:39Right there.
36:45Look at that pedal!
36:47Get back into that!
36:50Yeah, it's come off the trailer, okay?
36:53I'm thinking outside the box some days.
36:55But, get the job done, that's the main thing.
36:58The first carriage is in position.
37:02Ready to begin a new life as an office.
37:04But for Mark, there are still nine more to move.
37:09I'm going to go and get another one.
37:12I'm trying to get these again.
37:20Still to come.
37:21Here we go.
37:23Got your ACV telehandler just in front of that crane, right?
37:27We don't want to slow down behind it.
37:29A risky overtake could prove disastrous.
37:33Nobody wants to let you out.
37:35And that's when accidents happen because you're narrowing the fast line going too slow.
37:52In Suffolk, on a crisp winter morning, Dave is back at the yard to begin the final leg of his 68-tonne Transformers journey.
38:03Sun's coming up nicely, so we're throwing out nicely.
38:06Yeah, I'm on.
38:15And to see him safely to his destination.
38:18On here.
38:20Yeah, on here.
38:21Slim has also returned.
38:24I'm on here.
38:25I'm on.
38:26I'm on.
38:27I'm on.
38:28I'm on.
38:29I'm on.
38:30I'm on.
38:31I'm on.
38:32I'm on.
38:33I'm on.
38:34I'm on.
38:35I'm on.
38:36I'm on.
38:37I'm on.
38:38I'm on.
38:39I'm on.
38:40I'm on.
38:41I'm on.
38:42I'm on.
38:43I'm on.
38:44I'm on.
38:45I'm on.
38:46To successfully get the huge hole back through the village, Slim has also brought reinforcements.
38:53Steve is moving the traffic over so that we get a clear run through with Dave.
39:10With Steve's van watching for oncoming traffic, Dave can turn his rig back onto the open road.
39:17Dave, just watching that accident.
39:19There you go.
39:20There's our turn.
39:21Dave, don't do that.
39:22Don't do that.
39:29Round you come.
39:30Round you come.
39:31Round you come.
39:33Keep going.
39:34Keep going.
39:35Keep going.
39:36Keep going.
39:37Keep going.
39:38Keep going.
39:39Keep going.
39:40Keep going.
39:41Away you go.
39:43OK.
39:44Thank you very much.
39:46OK.
39:47That's a great trip.
39:48Mind your eyes.
39:51OK, mate.
39:52Thank you very much.
39:53Have a good day.
39:54Thank you, buddy.
39:55And you.
39:58See you later, Steve.
40:00The transformer is heading to a substation in Rochdale.
40:05To safely make the 230 mile journey, Dave needs to know his rigging is holding up.
40:12All OK, Slim?
40:15Hello?
40:16All OK on the back?
40:17Changing the rig?
40:20Nothing moving at all.
40:22Trailer looks straight.
40:23All your lights are working.
40:27Feet up.
40:29OK, we'll go with that then.
40:32With Slim's 25 years as a heavy haulage driver, Flash trusts his escort's judgement.
40:39It's the ideal situation, because he's an ex-driver, he understands the trailer, he knows to look at the change all down the side and down the back.
40:47You can see if they've got any tension in them or if they're a little bit slack.
40:52And they're running the trailer, whether it's running in line with me or slightly out.
40:59It's been a perfect start to a long day.
41:04Yeah, brilliant. Couldn't believe that.
41:06Roads are nice and dry now.
41:09The frost has gone, so the ice has gone.
41:11Nice, easy run so far. The traffic's been kind, it's quiet.
41:16No hold up so far, and we're nearly at the breakfast stop, so it couldn't be better.
41:22But in heavyweight trucking, journeys are rarely simple.
41:29Here we go.
41:31We've got JCB telehandler just in front of that crane lorry.
41:36You don't want to slow down behind it, you struggle to get out.
41:38Nobody wants to lead you out.
41:41And that's when accidents happen, because you're now in the fast lane going too slow.
41:44Whereas at the moment we're doing 40 mile an hour.
41:47We're slower than what they are, but it's not walking pace.
41:51Slim, going to lead lane two, mate.
41:53You've got to tell your hand that they're plodding down here about five mile an hour.
41:56Yep, yours.
42:00Slim quickly covers the outside lane, so Dave can squeeze past the telehandler.
42:06That's how it should work. It doesn't always.
42:24Drama avoided, it's time to pull off the road for some well-earned brekkie.
42:29Oh, it's just nice to sit down and get away from the truck for half an hour or so.
42:35And let someone else do the cooking.
42:39I reckon it's going to be a omelette with salad and new potatoes.
42:45If you get here late in the evening, it's got to be the mixed grill.
42:50Because that will last you till dinner time the next day.
42:53And they'll have it every time.
42:54Right, you are good from the right. I'll stop this bus.
43:04OK.
43:05With a long day of trucking ahead, just like the machines they're in charge of, these kings of the road need their fuel.
43:27OK, breakfast in. Off we go.
43:28Let's go and get some breakfast.
43:30Yep.
43:32Next time, Sam picks up a porter cabin.
43:37I've noticed that there's a waste pipe on this end.
43:40But the balance is blown by the bog.
43:43It's lifted a little bit skewery.
43:47It's probably the dangerous thing you can do on the trailer.
43:51It's the most dangerous you can do in the digger as well.
43:56A dirty digger in a quarry needs driving onto a flatbed.
44:01Believe me, when you skid off, you skid off and it can be quite a serious proposition to have to sort out.
44:07All right, again.
44:11And in Staffordshire, a problematic pin.
44:14No, it's not quite gone in the hole.
44:16Drives deck to despair.
44:18**** useless ****.
44:37You could lose covert skin tone, Czy have won't be frostynaire.
44:38You could do a rollerball strip trip in the dark place, of freedom, which is my pleasure.
44:39Trouffs night out in the sea, it's impossible.
44:40Thouffs night out your spiff, hell from cold very tough.
44:41There are a lot of stress and uz tirar.
44:42There have been a lot of stress on earth.
44:44You could lose weight and cold for 30.
44:45It could be a lot of stress, it would faster that you can do.
44:46And that while you werejÄ…, it'll be my pleasure from here, and from here.
44:48Again.
44:49Great time, and watch Ray Mol Lorenzo, after all the thing, I'm takingор on air.
44:50And carta of Iowa will be able to have to take enough a Fuji.
44:52And even if anybody has concerned,
