European Union member states that border Russia called for enhanced security measures during talks held in Helsinki, highlighting growing concerns over regional stability and defence preparedness.
Officials from countries along the EU’s eastern flank discussed border protection, hybrid threats and military readiness amid ongoing tensions linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine. The meeting focused on strengthening coordination, intelligence-sharing and infrastructure security across the region.
Participants stressed the need for a united EU approach to deterrence and resilience, particularly for nations with direct land borders with Russia. Calls were also made for increased EU and NATO cooperation to address emerging security challenges.
