00:00Woody Allen is weighing his future in filmmaking.
00:03The Oscar-winning director and screenwriter told Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia
00:07that he intends for his next film to be his last.
00:10His 50th and final film will shoot in France later this year
00:14and will be similar in tone to his 2005 thriller Matchpoint.
00:18He told the publication,
00:19However, in a statement released to IndieWire the following day,
00:27Allen's rep said that the director may still make more movies.
00:30Woody Allen never said he was retiring,
00:32nor did he say he was writing another novel.
00:35He said he was thinking about not making films,
00:37as making films that go straight or very quickly to streaming platforms
00:40is not so enjoyable for him,
00:42as he is a great lover of the cinema experience.
00:45Earlier this year, Allen told Alec Baldwin during an Instagram Live conversation
00:49that he would likely direct one final project,
00:52but that the thrill is gone for him with filmmaking.
00:55The once-prestigious filmmaker has seen his popularity in the U.S. decrease significantly

01:01and the resurfaced allegations of sexual abuse from daughter Dylan Farrow.
01:06Amazon Studios canceled his $68 million four-film deal,
01:10and the director's recent movies have had a tough time finding distribution.
01:13Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering's four-part HBO docuseries,
01:17Allen vs. Farrow, focusing on Farrow's allegations,
01:20premiered in February of 2021.
01:22Allen has denied the allegations.
