In a recent interview, the Oscar-nominated actor said he is holding out hope for one more great role.

00:00James Caan is revealing this classic Godfather moment was actually improvised.
00:05In a recent interview with Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz,
00:08the Oscar-nominated actor said one of Sonny Corleone's famous scenes in the iconic 1972 film,
00:15the opening wedding scene where the hot-headed Sonny broke the camera of the FBI agent
00:19and then threw some money on the ground, was in fact not scripted.
00:22He noted,
00:23I grabbed that camera and I smashed that camera.
00:26I took out 20 and I threw it on the street. I paid for it.
00:30The 81-year-old Caan also talked about how he somewhat modeled Sonny on an unexpected source,
00:35legendary comedian Don Rickles.
00:37It was having that drive, that thing, you know, I just was locked into that.
00:42As for one of his most famous later works,
00:44Caan said he initially turned down Elf on the title alone.
00:48He says, you want to do Elf? I said, can't do it.
00:52But after a long talk, Will Ferrell was able to convince him to do the beloved holiday classic.
00:57And in the closing of the interview, Caan also stressed his hope for one more great role.
01:02I can't take it easy. To me, I enjoy working. I love to work with good people.
01:07I have more fun when I'm working and I have a lot of laughs. And I get respect too, sometimes.
