Two U.S. soldiers and a civilian interpreter were killed on Friday during a joint patrol in Palmyra, Syria. Three other U.S. soldiers and two Syrian security agents were also injured in the assault. According to the Syrian Interior Ministry spokesperson, Nour Al Din Al Baba, the attack was carried out by a member of the terrorist group known as the Islamic State. Officials noted that Syrian internal security forces had previously warned of possible attacks, lamenting that the U.S. military did not take the alerts seriously. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump vowed retaliation against the terrorist faction responsible for the deaths.
