In Argentina, citizens mark over the week the 50th anniversary of the 1976 coup d'état, which brought about a bloody civic-military dictatorship. Rallies and numerous other events are planned over the week to keep the memory of victims alive.

00:00to know more how the day is moving forward in this important march that is taking place
00:05as Argentine marks this 50th anniversary commemoration. Welcome, Belen.
00:10Hello, Luis. Such a pleasure to meet you once again. As you were just saying, the day is
00:16moving forward. We're getting closer to closer to the afternoon time when the main documents
00:22are going to be read, positioning everyone here on the key topics that have to do and speak to the
00:31truth, memory, and justice claim that continues to be ongoing. We are seeing a lot of people coming
00:37near to the Plaza de Mayo. We are just two blocks away. What you see behind me is the people
00:45that
00:45keep on coming. The strings of people are not stopping. And as you can see, you're just mentioning
00:51before the social organizations, political organizations that are calling for this march.
00:57But an important thing to keep in mind also is that March 24th, March here in Argentina,
01:05is very much a demonstration where just the people come with their families, parents, kids. You're
01:12going to see in the images, it's also right behind me, a lot of kids coming to the square. It's
01:19truly
01:19a family event where the social organizations and political organizations, of course, are
01:25coming together, but also the everyday women, men, and family. Because this is truly a day
01:33to commemorate what happened and also to continue the struggle. We were talking about the importance
01:40of memory in Argentina, being a link between the past and the present. And a couple of the
01:46symbols that you're going to be seeing as you see the images of today, as the demonstration
01:51unfolds here in Buenos Aires, also across the country. You'll see, for example, that a lot
01:59of different people are walking by with signs that are representing, that have the photographs
02:07and the names of the people that were disappeared by the last civic military dictatorship. That is
02:14a symbol of the people continuing their struggle. They are coming with their names and with their faces,
02:22hanging in their own bodies as a representation of that continuation of struggle. You're also going
02:30to see a lot of people all sort of ages wearing the typical white handkerchief that represents the
02:40mothers of Plaza de Mayo. Again, it's a day of everyone here in the square, but also across the city
02:50and the country, taking on those symbols of struggle and making them their own. That is what it means to
02:58continue the fight and the struggle for that war just world order. That is what those 30,000
03:09disappeared comrades were praising for in the 70s. And that is what people continue to fight for today. It's a
03:17great day also to come together in terms of region. We've been seeing the flags of Venezuela, Cuba,
03:25Palestine as well here in the square. And that perspective of understanding that this is a regional
03:32struggle against imperialism was very important in the 70s. And it is very important today. That is why
03:38the slogan was the same struggle continues. It's a little bit of what we are seeing over here, a very
03:46important and a very emotional day for Argentinians. And we're going to continue getting testimonies,
03:53looking at what this commemoration becomes, a great festival, a celebration of a struggle that
04:01continues despite all adversities. That is what is happening here. Luis, I go back to you now.
04:07Thank you, Belen, for these latest updates on what is happening in Argentina. We're going to stay
04:11tuned, of course, to have more news in the upcoming news brief to continue as we continue to follow up
04:16this important gathering and the reading of the document. Let's now continue with
04:20on our next slide.
