00:47Trump had vowed to retaliate against the Islamic State after a suspected attack by the group
00:52killed three U.S. military personnel on December 13th. The White House said the Syrian government
00:58supported the operation and reiterated its steadfast commitment to fighting ISIS. Two army soldiers and
01:05a civilian interpreter were killed, as well as three others were wounded in the central Syrian
01:10town of Palmyra by an attacker who targeted a convoy of American and Syrian forces before
01:16being shot dead. The U.S. military said their forces together with Jordan struck more than
01:2270 ISIS targets during the joint operation. They said the operation was critical to preventing
01:28ISIS from inspiring plots and attacks against the U.S. They said following the December 13th
01:34attack, U.S. and partner forces had conducted 10 operations in Syria and Iraq, resulting in
01:40the deaths or detention of 23 operatives. They said forces in Syria had conducted more than
01:4680 operations over the last six months to eliminate terrorists posing a direct threat to the U.S.
01:52and regional security. The Syrian Interior Ministry described the attacker as a member of the
01:58Syrian security forces suspected of sympathizing with ISIS. The Syrian government is now led by
02:04former rebels who toppled leader Bashar al-Assad last year after a 13-year civil war.
