clunking
Transcript
00:00okay so this is the repair manual on the Murray Ryder lawn tractor it's the model
00:1340541 C and I replaced the starter before but I just had the I've been
00:23using this battery pack with usual which usually starts it up in seconds but I
00:30noticed there was a tooth and this the starter that was missing and I replaced
00:42that a long time ago and there is a tooth I think in the flywheel also missing
00:52now I don't know if it's just that I don't have the battery charge enough you
00:58know or if there's another tooth missing and I'd have to replace the flywheel so
01:06look I want to look at the starter I'm gonna have to take this cover off here
01:11one sec now I've seen some fast videos out there
01:19so I'm gonna use the first nut here is three ace I'm just gonna be doing this
01:29as we go along I don't know how hard it is or how easy it is
01:36to see how that I say new starter but that's got to be in about six seven years now
01:54okay right here
02:12okay remember pretty easy taking off the cover because if there's only that one
02:29tooth that's missing I'll probably put another jumper pack or battery
02:38that's going to be coming too
02:55okay that's two
02:58And there's the third.
03:08And I guess it also takes drivers if you have them.
03:34Okay, so now we can see the problem.
03:38Starter looks good.
03:48All the teeth on there.
03:59I can see where the engine mounts have anything to do with that.
04:05But let's find the broken tooth.
04:13One sec.
04:29Now this is looking better.
04:30Some of the teeth here on the starter look a little rounded.
04:37But the main problem is, I think it's just that bolt.
04:45If it was tightened, it wouldn't skip.
04:49Because I can't find, I swear there was a tooth missing.
04:54So I'm going to try to tighten that bolt, see what happens.
05:00Now this is looking better and better.
05:03I'll show you what just happened.
05:09And you see how that starter's dropping because of that one bolt.
05:18And from the pressure from starting it, it came loose.
05:26So I guess there wasn't a tooth missing.
05:28The tooth must have been in the old starter.
05:30Once I tighten this, look at that.
05:40I'm going to give that an extra one sec.
05:46So the clunking, I heard, was the skipping because it wasn't tight enough.
05:57That's a fast job right there.
05:59Here I'm all ready to take the flywheel off.
06:03Because I was sure that the starter was good.
06:06So let's put that back in.
06:20Put the cover back on.
06:27And hopefully we can start her right up now.
06:36That's going to save
06:51a lot of money
06:53not buying those parts.
06:55So we won't call this flywheel changing
07:09or repairing.
07:14We'll just call it
07:17tightening.
07:25And that's another thing I've done.
07:28I noticed you can see this right here
07:30is the engine mount bolts
07:34were tightened before.
07:38So I may check them out too.
07:41Now if the flywheel did have to be pulled
07:44under this cap here,
07:47you'll see that nut.
07:51And I guess if you pry up
07:54with the
07:55crowbar
07:57or
07:57yeah, the tire iron
08:01at the same time
08:05you have to take that cap off.
08:08You may not need a puller
08:10but that's the way to do it
08:12is to take the puller off.
08:15I just saved a lot of work
08:18so
08:18I'm not going to be
08:20showing you that today.
08:34This will be clunking.
08:36Clunking when starting.
08:38Okay, I put the oil in there.
08:43The engine's shaking too.
08:47That's right.
08:47I've got to check those bolts.
08:50What I had to do
08:51was keep putting
08:52this looks like
08:539 16ths.
08:55See how I put it up.
08:57There's a hole here.
08:58Just turn it
09:04and you can actually see
09:06me turning the screw
09:09if I had a better light in there.
09:12So I'm just going to
09:13hook the ratchet up to this.
09:18That should do it.
09:20I'll probably need
09:46two hands for this.
09:50Got to
09:53put the
09:56socket on.
10:01See how fast that was.
10:03I've got to hold this here.
10:05I can't push pause on the cam.
10:08I'm just going to set it down.
10:12Put the ratchet on.
10:15Now we'll tighten it good.
10:20I just think I did
10:21a couple years ago.
10:23I'll look for that other bolt.
10:28There it is.
10:29So we're going to go in
10:31under here.
10:32I'm going to pause it.
10:34There should be four of them.
10:38I'll probably edit this video.
10:40to make it shorter.
11:02Oh, that's
11:03perfect.
11:05one more.
11:10One more.
11:21I'm going to pause it.
11:22And the last one.
11:27So that was just
11:28I should have
11:29light under there,
11:30but
11:30I'll check out the video later
11:33and probably delete this part
11:34if you can't see nothing.
11:36So the engine's pretty sturdy.
11:38I'm going to wait for that battery
11:39to
11:40charge up enough
11:42and I'm going to give it a shot.
11:44Oh, let's
11:46let's see.
11:48I'm on zoom there.
11:52Okay.
11:53All right.
11:55Shut that.
12:00I haven't had a real battery
12:01for this thing
12:02in like 10 years.
12:06Since you've got to buy
12:07a jumper pack anyhow.
12:10Does the job.
12:11Plus the
12:11fittings went.
12:14I'm just down
12:16right to the
12:16bare wire.
12:20As long as you can
12:21shut it.
12:23Turn it on.
12:24Yeah, it's still only yellow
12:26but I think
12:26since it's fixed
12:27I just want to get it started.
12:44smooth.
12:49All right.
12:51We are done.
12:53If anything else happens
12:54I'll let you know.
12:55thanks for watching
12:56the video.
12:56Thanks for watching the video.
