00:00This video is on the Fostex X26. I used this like 20-25 years ago. You can see how the DC jack I had
00:15to put upright. It usually comes out that, but it was soldered in a position before where I didn't
00:25want to disrupt it, and it just works. I'll show you here. I found this AC adapter, and it just works.
00:41Probably like 19 volts like a laptop. Anyhow, the lights work. The cassette, however, there's a
00:50different story. I already did a video on this. Like I said, I lost the video, but we're going to
00:57open it up and see if we can fix anything else. Okay, so the first thing, I'm missing one here,
01:09but take off the top buttons. So this should be four. They only go on one way, five, six.
01:22Okay, and we'll go with the green ones. They just pull up, and then the gray.
01:42These here are inside, so you can't do nothing about that now, but notice these lines. Remember
01:49where the lines went, see, on the levels, and just pull up on those. Then you have four here,
01:57and under here, I'll talk about it because wires are going through here, and to close this up
02:05and not crimp those wires or splice them, you've got to be very careful. This here is a master sound
02:17level. That's also going to the right. Then you have three black knobs. One, that'll be
02:26the vertical black ones. Okay, here's the NR. Lift up probably with two fingernails
02:38because they're dome-shaped, the remix, and then the tracks. One and three, two and four,
02:50and then notice the jacks here. Basically, one and two were the problems with this because everybody
03:01just uses one and two. Unless you have, you know, yourself, or if you have more people, then I don't
03:08think these jacks are affected. But now we're gonna, let's see, turn it upside down,
03:15and we're gonna get a Phillips screwdriver, and we're gonna take these out. One, four corners, two,
03:33three,
03:39three,
03:39cassette,
03:46cassette four-track. How many of you still use cassettes?
03:53So that's a total of five screws.
04:03Magnet would be better to magnetize the screwdriver first.
04:23Now this has a couple layers of circuit board. The one underneath
04:27we'll just show you, but we're not really going to touch that.
04:30Okay, now open it up. See that? And remember those cassette buttons are all lined up.
04:44But for this here, you gotta like pry under it a bit.
04:48I'm going to pause this a second. Notice here, we don't want to
04:58jack these up too much because you don't want to break that from the circuit board.
05:03So you're going to have to pry something under this just so it can get over that jack.
05:14See what I'm doing here?
05:15One at a time and clear that there's those wires in there.
05:24Okay, so now
05:25I think you might be able to push down a couple of like the buttons so so it'll clear
05:35because this wheel here, you know, that spins the tape
05:39the tape. If you press down, it might tuck in a little more so you can take the
05:48the cover off. Now I want to see
05:52there's the switches inside there
05:56and this switch here, I don't think it comes off.
06:00Let's make sure you got that fifth screw out.
06:10I wish I had better lighting here. My hand's in the way.
06:15Yeah, that center screw is one long screw compared to the four on the side.
06:23Now we'll tip it upside down
06:25or back right up. Whatever's easier. Oh, one more.
06:31The monitor button.
06:34And there you have it.
06:41So I was in this before. Now there's a white
06:47which is delicate too. Be careful when you pull out these plugs. The white,
06:51the red, which will go into a red casing so you can't mix it up. A green right there.
07:01Unplug those first so you can get the lid off. I'm going to pause this again.
07:06Okay, we want to get this
07:16down as far as possible so you can see
07:27there's a screw there.
07:28The cables stay out of the way. You don't want to break any of these cables from the circuit board because
07:41then you'll really
07:44be in trouble. There will probably be a feature that don't work anymore.
07:50see how I tuck that in. Try to notice when you pull it up like these wires are going around that
07:59switch. And there's another. Let's get that other screw.
08:07I didn't lose it already.
08:09Oh, and uh, yeah, if you see
08:20say like a screw there
08:23remember that you're going to put the lid on
08:31and if there's any screws that go in here
08:33don't put them in
08:38just because you've seen the threads.
08:41Okay, so let's put this back together. I'm going to pause this a second. The only other one I noticed was right there.
08:49So that's in.
08:50But uh, remember you got the four corners one, two, three, four, and then this one
08:59you see the hole.
09:01But remember the big one right in the center. So this is going to go in on the bottom.
09:07So let's put this back together. So I'll start with the green.
09:11Press that back. The white one seems to be the trickiest. You have to close the lid a lot so it'll reach it.
09:18You can push it in or maybe even use the screwdriver.
09:22And we will begin
09:25by putting these over
09:28the jacks
09:32first.
09:35Then we can push some of these buttons down.
09:40Clear the wheel.
09:41It'll keep going down.
09:49Now also here before you close it
09:51try to
09:54move these switches
09:57because if they don't move that means a wire like I
10:01described to you before
10:03it's stuck under there.
10:06See, it's not down far enough where we can put all the switches on
10:10or maybe you could.
10:13But you want to make sure you got that play
10:16where it goes all the way down.
10:19Every lever switch.
10:21And if it's all clear
10:25and the master volume
10:29yeah see that's getting jammed right there.
10:31So when we open it
10:33there's that wire.
10:36We gotta
10:37move that out of the way.
10:39Just sit in the phone down for a sec.
10:41And even look in there.
10:47See that hitting a wire.
10:50Now we'll see if the screws.
10:56Okay, that's going up all the way.
10:59Looks good.
11:01Keep checking those jacks.
11:03And then reverse procedure.
11:08A big long screw.
11:10First one in right in the middle.
11:13We'll get those four sides.
11:18Okay.
11:20Yeah, the red ones.
11:26I'm taking a guess.
11:27They're on the top.
11:28I'll watch it later but
11:29there are two and four
11:35on the bottom.
11:41And you got
11:46the white ones on the left.
11:57Look for a couple more dome switches.
11:59And one more for the remix and norm.
12:24Now we'll put the
12:27gray ones at the bottom.
12:29If I did it wrong,
12:35I'll know it later, but
12:40just in case you have the owner's manual,
12:43they'll tell you to
12:45use the green knobs here.
12:48So you'll want to have the colors right.
12:50easy enough.
13:05Yeah, there's more green ones.
13:08Then we got
13:09we got the monitor.
13:10We got the monitor.
13:12The pitch.
13:15It's coming together, folks.
13:20Another slider.
13:21So since these two
13:29are both
13:29together, we're gonna
13:38Oh, I see.
13:39Oh, I see.
13:41There's four.
13:43So you got the
13:48aim it right at the
13:49these two will go to the right.
13:52Let's see if we can get it on there.
13:55One.
13:58Two.
13:59See that?
14:00They both move.
14:01Three.
14:09Go to the left.
14:14I think I got something jammed in there.
14:16Uh.
14:18Wow.
