00:00As the cold weather sets in, finding the right balance between comfort and energy efficiency
00:09becomes crucial.
00:10Whether you're looking to save money or simply want to maintain a cozy environment,
00:14and Azalean shares insights that will help you manage your home's temperature effectively
00:18throughout the winter.
00:21What's your go-to thermostat setting for winter?
00:23The U.S. Department of Energy has a recommendation that might surprise you.
00:2668 degrees during the day and then even lower when you're asleep.
00:30Now, this is part of a strategy to conserve energy and save money, but it doesn't mean
00:3468 degrees is the only solution.
00:37They say it's actually ideal to keep your indoor temperature close to the outdoor temperature,
00:41which of course can be a bit easier in the summer and I know sounds kind of horrible
00:45and at times even unsafe with winter temps.
00:48So the Department of Energy has said if you keep your indoor temperature about 25 degrees
00:52warmer than outside, then you'll save money and still keep your house heated.
00:56For example, if the temperature is 30 degrees outside, turn your thermostat up or down to
01:01about 60 degrees.
01:02You'll notice the difference in your bill.
01:04And they say you can actually save up to 10 percent a year on heating and cooling by
01:08turning your thermostat back 7 to 10 degrees for eight hours a day from its normal setting.
01:14But what do you think?
01:16And I think it's crazy to keep your house at 60 degrees.
01:18I was fine with the 68, but here's some other tips to help keep your home a bit warmer in
01:23the winter.
01:24You may know this one, right?
01:25Reversing the direction of your ceiling fan clockwise.
01:27That pushes the warmer air down.
01:29Close any doors to unused rooms to prevent heat from escaping and then it focuses on the
01:34areas that you use most.
01:36You can hang heavy insulated curtains to reduce heat loss or apply that window film.
01:40That can happen and help a lot.
01:42And make sure you're having your heating systems checked often and changing your filters regularly
01:47as well.
01:48As I heard for the 18 years I lived at home, put some socks on, listen to your dad and wear
01:52a little bit warmer clothes around the house to help you stay warmer this winter.
