Bulk up your dinner plans and turn that cabbage side dish into a main course. 00:00I'm serving up swamp cabbage.
00:02We start by rendering some bacon
00:03and cook it until it's crisp.
00:04Add in smoked sausage and cook that down
00:06to create the best flavor that's gonna carry
00:08through the whole dish.
00:08Add in onion, celery, and bell pepper,
00:10a little garlic, and cook those until the veggies soften.
00:12Now goes the cabbage.
00:13It looks like a ton, but it really cooks down.
00:15Hearts of palm is what takes it from
00:17smothered cabbage to swamp cabbage.
00:19Finally, a can of tomatoes and simple seasonings,
00:21onion powder, salt, and pepper.
00:22Cover this and let it smother in all that goodness
00:24for about 20 to 30 minutes.
00:26This is when a side dish becomes a complete meal.
