00:00Joe Murray was saying the look ahead line before the season was eight and a half.
00:04So that just shows you how much the Patriots have improved.
00:09That seemed fair to you, first of all, that the seven point swing and the fact that the Buffalo is still favored.
00:17I would have believed any line from one and a half.
00:19The Patriots are favored to underdog.
00:21So that three point swing, I would have believed.
00:23I don't at this point in the season care much about the look ahead lines.
00:26You're talking about like what they were in the summer.
00:28It's just evidence of or another way of looking at how much it's improved.
00:33Right.
00:34Just like it's closed.
00:34I got you.
00:35Like it's if you're running out of ways to be surprised, this is sort of like a concrete example of numerically how the perspective of this team has shifted.
00:46Yes.
00:46And I think those are also a reflection of, you know, when I talk about Phil Perry talks about EPA DVOA DVOA is down on the Patriots relative to the record because it factors in the schedule.
00:58And the people in Vegas will use their own systems that are you would call and fall into the category of analytics.
01:03And that shows you, hey, the Patriots have got a two game lead on the bills.
01:07They've already beaten them.
01:08But our numbers and the way they played show that Vegas thinks even on the road, the bills are the better team.
01:13OK.
01:13And what was interesting is Joe said this was pissing people off that the Patriots were dogs, which is honestly, it might not be for other people.
01:23And if it's not, then you guys let me know by putting the brakes on this.
01:26But I am literally fascinated with that, that a fan of a team will look at a Vegas line that they think is a mistake and yell about it instead of going, my good fortune.
01:41If it seems to have made a mistake, let's take advantage of this.
01:46What's going on?
01:49Explain to me what's going on with Patriot fans.
01:52You deal with them all the time.
01:55What is the constant need?
01:58Or do you, am I off base?
02:00Is there a constant need to be upset about something?
02:03At some outside force?
02:06So, last night we watched the Eagles, right?
02:08Just poop all over themselves.
02:10And coming into that game.
02:11I didn't watch the Eagles do it.
02:14We heard like how upset their fans were and everyone makes, oh, I can't wait to hear Philly radio callers phone in the next day.
02:21I think it's a Northeast thing.
02:23OK, but the Eagles fans are mad at the Eagles.
02:26The Eagles fans, no matter what the Eagles do, want the coach fired and hate all the players.
02:32The Patriot fans, not Boston sports fans, Patriots fans are mad at everyone but the team.
02:39They're mad that people have disrespected their franchise.
02:42This is why it's unique.
02:44You listen to Philadelphia Sports Talk Radio.
02:46We've done it before.
02:46We were going to do a bit about it before.
02:48But all they do is crap on the team.
02:50They're mad at the team, the ownership.
02:52They're mad at the, they hate everyone but that security guard.
02:56They egged the offensive coordinator's house last week.
02:59Yeah, they're psychos but at least they just hate the team.
03:02But it's team related.
03:02At least they didn't throw snowballs at Santa.
03:04That would really be crossing a line.
03:06Wait, I've never heard of them.
03:07So my point is, I guess it's different shades of misery and not the Patriots fans are miserable.
03:14It's just a general Northeast outlook specific to this season.
03:17I think when things are going so well, you've got an MVP at quarterback and your old player is back as your head coach and you're 11-2.
03:24You look for things that would be bold and more material.
03:27So this would be a classic example.
03:29If you're not yelling at me as a reporter or other members of the media, you yell at Vegas.
03:33So I don't know what it is.
03:35I think ultimately, you know, when they come back this strongly and you go, they've got the best record.
03:40Why aren't we favored in every single game?
03:42It's a reasonable question but you take a deeper look and it's easy to understand why.
03:47So they just don't want to do it.
03:48You just look and see the best record and go, why isn't the team with the best record favored?
03:51And that's what it is.
03:52Yeah, I mean, I think it's a reasonable line.
03:55I said this before the Giants game that, you know, that Bills game, if you're looking at them not running the table and a game that is reasonable to think they might lose or even are likely to lose, it's that Bills game.
04:12Even though it's at Gillette Stadium, it's tough to beat a good team in your division twice in a year.
04:18It's tough for any team and to think that somehow they're being doubled down on by also not being favored in that game.
04:28I don't understand it either other than what I said earlier and what John just said.
04:32They view it as being disrespected.
04:35Well, plus the Patriots also beat them.
04:37So you're like, we've already done this once and we saw how that movie went in your place.
04:40So why, when we come to our place, when we've won, speaking as a fan here, 10 in a row, would Raiders fans be equally upset if they play the Raiders again and the Raiders were somehow underdogs in that matchup?
04:52They beat them.
04:53The Raiders beat them.
04:54How are we not favored against the Patriots?
04:56I think Raiders fans are hibernating right now.
05:00We're not going to see them until the springtime.
05:02Well, it's just a different mindset, obviously.
05:06I get it because when I first came on to the beat, it was 2018, you're coming off that Eagle Super Bowl, they go to another Super Bowl, and you have the Miami Miracle, and okay, bad things happen.
05:15But there was a lot of feedback of like, why isn't this as good as it should be?
05:19Like, that's the championship standard.
05:21So when I talk about shades of misery, it starts with you identify with your sports teams as much as possible.
05:25When things go poorly for them, that means things go poorly for you, and that's the way you feel it.
05:29But also, good is not just defined as a winning season, it's defined as championships.
05:33And even as good as things are here now, if you're not getting every little bit of respect and honor along the way, whether it's being favored or being picked in a game.
05:41Like, I picked the Giants 10 days ago, and I've never heard from more people the entire season, because I was wrong at how bad it was, and that kind of slight in disrespect.
05:51You disrespected them.
05:52Yeah, so that's what it is.
