00:00what's up y'all so i'm going to show you real quick just how i shim my necks for
00:19floyd rose equipped guitars this one it would look like that one screwed in so it's very
00:24very very subtle on this particular one i just have a fender heavy pick glued onto the neck
00:31some of them i just gloom into the pocket this one i chose to do the neck but it's very subtle
00:36this one you can kind of tell a little bit more there's a slight gap right there but other than
00:42that yeah it's super subtle but it's all you need to make it work all right it's finally rig rundown
00:51time i know y'all have been asking me to do this for a while so here we go so that's my marshal the
00:55aux box and the variac there is my pedal board i'm actually working on scaling it down here's a
01:01closer look at the aux my amp and the variac all together there's the variac i know it looks like
01:06it's set to 130 but i promise you it's at 100 there's the aux box here's my guitar that runs
01:12into the pedal board and i only really use the harmonist for messaging a bottle i use the flanger
01:17sometimes the phaser sometimes the chorus not really the delay stays on all the time and the
01:21reverb is for special things there's the pedal board running straight into my amp i know it doesn't
01:27look like everything's dying but i promise you it is there's the aux box and there's the amp being
01:31plugged into the variac
01:47hey guys what's up today i'm gonna be teaching you how to get the best out of your fluid row system
01:57so on this guitar right here i have a 1984 reissue i think from like 2015 or something like that
02:02and uh i've done a ton to it to get it to where i want it and how i want to perform and sound so let's
02:09get into it
02:27first things first there's floating fluid rose and there's flush mount fluid rose and the original
02:32way that they were intended to be used was actually flush mounted until steve vi pioneered the uh
02:38floating type floyd rose on his gem guitars but um the way eddie van halen uh set his up was flush
02:44like the one i have here and basically that just means it lies flat on the body
02:49and uh you can only go down when it's flush mounted but it improves your tuning stability and it's way
02:54easier to like set up and tune and that's why i prefer it because i don't really use uh i don't pull
03:00up much except one of my guitars is set up like that specifically just so i have one guitar that does that
03:04but uh the majority of mine are flush mounted because that's what i prefer so i think i'm going
03:08to start off talking about like how to get the best out of your floyd rose and then i'll go into
03:12how to set it up properly and get the like get get the best playing or feel out of it i guess you
03:18could say but um i mean because there's there's been so many different variations of a floyd rose
03:23you know there's the licensed ones there's godos which i have and then the original floyd rose uh 1984s and uh
03:30i have a prototype 83 on one of my guitars actually but this one right here is my favorite and uh
03:37so let's just get into it so i'm going to do my best to show you guys this through video but i will
03:41post pictures just so you can see in more detail so as you can see this is my 1984 floyd rose reissue
03:48and it is perfectly flush with the body and you know it does take some tweaking to get there and one
03:53of the things that you have to do is you have to remove the tension plate and the shim underneath
04:00there so my bridge is literally screwed in right into the block so these you can just uh you just
04:07press these like that you just have a little fun there but that's how they are actually originally
04:13made like if you look at the frt5 the ones that eddie used on his 5115 franks track that's how they were
04:19so if you go to the back you'll see there's nothing between the block and the floyd rose and that's
04:26how you get the best tone out of your floyd rose and that's also how you get it to be that flush with
04:31your body so here's another floyd rose i have this one's from 1983 and the block actually says patent
04:53pending which i'm not really sure if it means it's a prototype or not because it looks like
04:57um a germany made one you know it has the squared off uh bits right there but i'm not entirely sure
05:04so uh this one also you know no uh fine tuner or anything but i'm gonna tell you how to get rid of
05:12that so basically if you take the saddles off there's three screws underneath that use a hex screwdriver
05:18to take off you take those three off and uh once you take that off sorry i'm on this guitar right now
05:24you can't tell um there will be the shim and the uh tension plate uh screwed in in between the block
05:33and the actual floyd rose base plate itself this one actually didn't have them on there because
05:37of the year it's from but um and then you just take those out and you screw the block back in you put
05:41everything back in and when you when you don't have the tension plate and these aren't uh strung
05:48they'll just hang down like that but as soon as you string them up they pop up because of the tension
05:54from the string and i've seen so much online about like oh it won't work without it but the original
05:59design didn't have it in it so i'm not sure where people are getting that information from so it's
06:04super simple super effective and i mean that one's also like super flush to the body so yeah i mean it's
06:13super quick easy way to just get so much better tone like way more crisp sustain you know it's a little
06:19bit warmer out of a floyd rose because you know floyd rose they do have a little bit of a tinny sound
06:25to them compared to like a hardtail or a strap bridge but with the pros that you get from them
06:30it's way worth it so i hope this helped you guys out
