00:00Focus on Dojo, I'll deal with the others.
00:08Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're looking over the games that studied the
00:13blade, came out swinging and now dominate the industry.
00:23Before we begin, we publish new content all week long.
00:26So, be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:32The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
00:40Steel for humans, silver for monsters.
00:42A simple rule, but one that helps shape Geralt's particular brand of swordplay during his journey
00:47across the continent.
00:48While his use of magic via signs also plays a part, the White Wolf's primary form of
00:53attack remains his twin swords.
00:55It takes the standard fare of light and heavy attacks and layers in added complexity by
01:00forcing you to switch between depending on your opponent.
01:03But more than that, it highly encourages the use of oils and other concoctions to increase
01:07their effectiveness, keeping combat just as addictive as a game of Gwent.
01:12Monster Hunter Wilds
01:14Sometimes bigger does mean better, and weapons don't get wilder, pun intended, than in Monster Hunter's
01:27latest venture.
01:28If you're looking to slay or entrap colossal creatures along dynamic landscapes with all
01:33the odds stacked against you, then you're going to have to come prepared.
01:36While altering your loadout is key to bringing down your prey, hunts in this game switch between
01:41frenzied and tactical at a moment's notice.
01:44That's why it's so vital to pick the right weapon, and the swords on display here truly
01:48are to die for.
01:49Each weapon type, from long swords to dual blades to gun lances, come with their own unique
01:54skills, allowing for vast amounts of experimentation as you decide the optimal way to bring down
01:59a beast like Arkveld.
02:02Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
02:19If you crave realism, authenticity and anything that doesn't involve button mashing, then we'd
02:25like to introduce you to Henry.
02:27This RPG is all about diving deep into its intricate mechanics, with very few short
02:32cuts, all to allow maximum immersion.
02:35This extends all the way to how Henry handles swords.
02:38Duels in Kingdom Come don't allow you to sweep in like a storm and chop a million
02:42men to pieces.
02:43Every deflection, every strike, you have to judge and input in real time, all from a first
02:49person perspective.
02:50It greatly increases the tension, putting you in the thick of the action.
02:54While it may strip away the power fantasy element, it also stands as the perfect encapsulation
02:59of what Deliverance 2 is all about.
03:01Unfiltered historical fun.
03:04I've been waiting for you.
03:07Star Wars Jedi, Fallen Order, and Star Wars Jedi, Survivor.
03:12Who would have guessed that all the Star Wars name needed to carve its way back into the single-player
03:24gaming scene is a drop of Souls-like goodness.
03:27Alongside a great story outside of the main canon, few games in recent years have channeled
03:31the raw power of feeling like a Jedi, both through an excessive use of the Force, as well
03:36as a crazy lightsaber skill set.
03:39Cal Kestis is nothing if not resourceful, and over the course of the franchise is able
03:43to alter his weapon in a variety of ways.
03:46Sure, you can fight the Empire with classic saber combat, but there's also dual blades for faster
03:51attacks, double-bladed staff to take down multiple enemies, crossguard to shatter defenses, as well
03:57as the blaster and blade if you want to channel your inner Han Solo.
04:01Nier Automata.
04:09You can't bring glory to mankind without knowing how to slice up a few machines.
04:13Lucky for us, 2B isn't just all beauty and brains, she's also got brawn and blades to spare.
04:19While a multitude of weapons can be scavenged, forged and leveled up, and the pod system provides
04:24no end of ranged attacks, the main focus for combat remains on light and heavy attacks via
04:292B's two signature swords.
04:31It is way too easy to pull off fast and flashy combos, especially when you nail the dodge mechanic.
04:37To the point where you'll end up dancing through bullet hells before letting out Virtuous Treaty
04:41for a bite.
04:42Better make sure he's actually dead next time.
04:45That was dangerous, man.
04:47Elden Ring.
04:52The only game where there's a sword for every occasion, and then some.
04:57All across the lands between, players will find themselves encountering and uncovering
05:01no end of swords of every shape and size.
05:04Are you looking to crush your foes with great swords with no fancy gimmicks?
05:08Take your pick.
05:09Are you all about speed and wanting to pull off acrobatic barrages even when dressed in
05:14heavy armour?
05:15Got those too.
05:16Do you want to bring the pain by lashing out with blades that contain radically different
05:20magical properties?
05:21Take down a Shardbearer and chances are they'll have one ready for you to plunder.
05:26It is honestly ridiculous how much is on offer here, and that's just the swords.
05:31Ninja Gaiden 4.
05:34When you think Ryu Hayabusa and his never ending crusade against demons, the mind instantly
05:42wanders to his array of ninja tools used to slaughter his enemies, as well as the punishing
05:47difficulty the franchise is known for.
05:49That same spirit has been passed on down to newcomer Yakumo, only now the gameplay has
05:54been polished to a buttery smooth finish.
05:57With his own set of weapons, including a pair of twin swords, Yakumo has inherited that same
06:02level of advanced combat that's easy to pick up, but brutal to master, especially when
06:07those difficulty spikes start to creep in.
06:10With his newfound blood raven transformation able to turn the tide of battle at a moment's
06:14notice, combat here is all about pressing the advantage and adapting to the unrelenting blood-soaked rhythm.
06:20Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.
06:43Anything more awesome than this game's absolute banger of a soundtrack is the way it allows
06:48you to slice everything to ribbons.
06:50Gone is the signature Metal Gear brand of stealth, in favour of coming in like our lightning bolt
06:55and unleashing cybernetic warfare on any unfortunate soul caught in Raiden's path.
07:00Made all the better with the introduction of Blade Mode, which slows down time and allows
07:05players to control the angle and speed of their sword swings.
07:08There is nothing more satisfying than systematically cutting your enemy apart,
07:13before ripping out their spine to use as a fuel source.
07:16Now that's metal.
07:25Shadows Die Twice.
07:38You want challenging?
07:40You want combat that will break you down and force you to adapt until you're a one-man killing machine?
07:45Then we humbly recommend stepping into the gauntlet that is Sekiro.
07:49Deflections, parries, counters and above all else precision is the name of the game here.
07:54Learning how to weave through a blizzard of blows before unleashing a strike that shatters enemies' posture.
08:00Aggressiveness and caution are equally important here, and while the learning curve is the steepest in FromSoft's catalogue,
08:06if you stick with it long enough, you'll find yourself embroiled in some of the most rewarding battles in modern gaming.
08:22Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei.
08:25Calling these games cinematic almost seems like a disservice.
08:37The sheer magnitude of Tsushima and Yotei's accomplishments remain unsurpassed in terms of their landscape's fidelity,
08:43and especially when it comes to clashing swords.
08:46While you can choose how to approach combat, including attacking from the shadows,
08:50nothing beats challenging the nearest scumbag to a standoff, only to then slice him in half with blinding speed.
08:57Jin's stances as well as Atsu's various weapons each bring their own benefits,
09:01but what they have in common is just how good it feels to play.
09:05Switching your style between swings, unleashing the ghost to terrify your foe, cutting off his head,
09:11before riding off into the sunset in search of another duel.
09:15You just can't beat it.
09:24Which game do you think has the best combat to date?
