Transcript
00:00The United Nations has launched its 2026 humanitarian appeal,
00:05requesting only half of what it says it needed as the global crisis reached record levels.
00:11The UN is seeking $23 billion, the amount it says is needed
00:15to help 87 million of the world's most vulnerable people.
00:22Last year, the UN asked for $47 billion but got just $12 billion,
00:27the lowest in a decade.
00:30The target was later revised after major donors,
00:33led by the United States and followed by Germany, slashed their eight budgets.
00:37The UN still hopes to raise $33 billion to help 135 million people,
00:44but warns shortfalls are likely as countries shift money towards defence spending.
00:49The largest single appeal at $4 billion is for Gaza and the West Bank,
00:54where Israel's war has left nearly all 2.3 million residents displaced
00:59and entirely dependent on aid.
01:01Sudan is the second largest priority, followed by Syria.
01:05UN data show the United States remains the world's biggest humanitarian donor,
01:09but its contributions plunged in 2025 to $2.7 billion,
01:15down from $11 billion the year before.
01:18UN verder for the rest of the country.
