00:00On December 8, the Church celebrates one of the most luminous, most misunderstood, but also most beloved mysteries, the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.
00:12This festival, deeply rooted in the liturgical calendar, resonates throughout the world.
00:19From Lourdes to Rome, from Manila to Buenos Aires, the bells ring today to remind us that God always prepares his works with infinite delicacy.
00:31This celebration is not about the conception of Jesus, but about that of Mary herself.
00:38Saint Anne, her mother, receives in her daughter a grace unique in the history of humanity.
00:44a human being conceived without the slightest stain of original sin.
00:50It is this extraordinary privilege that we celebrate today.
00:55And with it, the names Marie, Maria, or Mariam, borne by millions of people across continents,
01:04like a living link with the one whom the angel will call "full of grace".
01:11This mystery is not an abstract concept.
01:14He speaks of a light entering the world, of a beginning made pure again, of a heart entirely open to God.
01:24The Immaculate Conception reveals how God works.
01:29He prepares, he shapes, he opens a path discreetly, long before visible events occur.
01:39Before Christmas, before the Annunciation, before the preaching of Jesus, there is this first silent act,
01:49the creation of an immaculate soul, a perfect vessel for the eternal Son.
01:55To understand the beauty of this festival, one must go back to the origin of the world and the wounds of humanity.
02:04Since the Fall, all human beings are born marked by a profound fragility.
02:10an inner rupture that tradition calls original sin.
02:16However, God willed that Mary be preserved from this limitation.
02:23not outside of salvation, but in anticipation of the salvation brought by Christ.
02:30Even before Jesus was conceived in her womb, he was already working for her.
02:36The grace of the cross, which is not limited by time, came to touch Mary from the moment of her conception.
02:43She is saved in advance, perfectly saved, so that her heart will be entirely turned towards God from her first breath.
02:54That is why the angel Gabriel, when greeting her, did not first say her name.
03:00He proclaims his true identity, the one that only God could give him.
03:06"Greetings, full of grace."
03:13On the contrary, Mary fully lived the human condition, but without the inner wound that inclines us to evil.
03:24Her freedom is pure, her love is whole, her trust is total.
03:31She never acts out of fear, never out of selfishness, never out of withdrawal.
03:36She is the fully accomplished woman, not because she is perfect in herself, but because she lets God illuminate everything.
03:46The Immaculate Conception is not a modern idea.
03:51The faith of the Christian people, from the earliest centuries, sensed that Mary had received a unique privilege.
04:00From 6th-century Eastern hymns to the reflections of medieval theologians,
04:05The Church contemplated this mystery without always being able to formulate it.
04:12Saint Bernard, Saint Bonaventure and Saint Thomas Aquinas questioned themselves.
04:18How could Mary be immaculate if everyone needed to be saved by Christ?
04:23The answer will come with the blessed Don Scott,
04:29which explains that God can save by preserving, in an anticipatory way, through the future merit of Christ.
04:38This insight illuminates the entire Church.
04:42Finally, on December 8, 1854, Pope Pius IX solemnly proclaimed the dogma of the Immaculate Conception.
04:51in the bubble “Ineffabilis Deus”.
04:55This is not an invention, but a confirmation of what the Christian heart has always believed.
05:03Mary is the most perfect work of divine grace.
05:08Four years later, in Lourdes, the young Bernadette received a life-changing confirmation.
05:16The lady told her, "I am the Immaculate Conception."
05:20A simple sentence, but an entire theology, carried by a child who could neither imagine it nor invent it.
05:31Since then, the enthusiasm surrounding this festival has continued to grow.
05:36The Immaculate Conception is not a distant dogma.
05:39He says something concrete for our lives.
05:42He first said that God always begins with light.
05:45Even when all seems lost, even when darkness reigns,
05:51God works in secret.
05:53He prepares the grace before we see it.
05:57This mystery teaches us to trust.
05:59God is already at work in our lives even before we perceive his work.
06:05He also says that holiness is not a burden, but a liberation.
06:09In Mary, we see what humanity could be if it allowed itself to be transformed by God.
06:17A peaceful heart, a simple faith, an inner joy that does not depend on circumstances.
06:25Mary Immaculate crushes no one.
06:28It reveals what we are destined to become.
06:32He also said that evil does not have the last word.
06:35The Immaculate Conception is a victory.
06:40A flag planted at the very heart of human history.
06:44Before the cross, before the resurrection,
06:48God places this brilliant sign.
06:51A creature completely freed from the grip of sin.
06:55A promise for us.
06:57A glimmer of hope for difficult times.
07:00This mystery also has a profoundly maternal dimension.
07:04Mary Immaculate is not only the mother of Jesus.
07:08It is given to each of us.
07:11Pure, it becomes a refuge.
07:14Transparent to God, she becomes consolation.
07:18Completely open to grace,
07:21She becomes powerful through her intercession.
07:24For centuries,
07:25The Christians took it to ask for protection.
07:29healing, conversion, inner light.
07:33The world's greatest Mario shrines
07:36bear the imprint of the Immaculate Conception.
07:40Lourdes,
07:41Quito,
07:42Washington,
07:43Seville,
07:44and so many others.
07:46Every December 8th,
07:48thousands of processions
07:49illuminate the cities,
07:51reminding us that the light never stops
07:53never to return.
07:54Let us pray together
07:57the most famous of prayers to Mary.
08:00Hail Mary,
08:02full of grace.
08:03The Lord is with you.
08:05You are blessed among all women,
08:08And blessed is Jesus, the fruit of your womb.
08:11Saint Mary,
08:12Mother of God,
08:13pray for us.
08:14poor sinners,
08:16now and at the hour of our death.
08:19Amen.
