Amen.

00:00On August 15, in countless villages and towns around the world,
00:06the streets are filled with fields and flowers.
00:10Majestic processions carry the statues of Mary.
00:14And everywhere, we celebrate a promise, that of eternal life.
00:21Today we will discover the deep meaning of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary,
00:28one of the most luminous events of the Christian faith.
00:33We will explore its history, its origins, its message for us today.
00:40And we will end together with a prayer.
00:44Mary, a young Jewish woman from Nazareth, receives a visit from the angel Gabriel.
00:51Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
00:55His response, “Be it done to me according to your word,” changes the course of history forever.
01:03She accompanies Jesus throughout his mission, in Bethlehem during the Nativity,
01:09at Cana during the first miracle, at the foot of the cross when he offered his life,
01:15then in the Upper Room, praying with the apostles at Pentecost.
01:19His whole life is a yes to God, in joy as in pain.
01:26The Bible does not directly tell the story of the Assumption, but it gives some clues to it.
01:33In the Apocalypse we see a woman crowned with twelve stars, clothed with the sun.
01:39The psalms speak of a queen adorned with gold, at the right hand of the king.
01:43The Fathers of the Church see in Mary the new Ark of the Covenant.
01:47Just as the ark contained the presence of God, it carried Christ within it.
01:55And like the ark, it could not know the corruption of the tomb.
02:01From the first centuries, Christians believed that Mary, at the end of her life, was taken up into heaven, body and soul.
02:10For centuries, this faith has been passed down and celebrated.
02:15Then, on November 1, 1950, Pope Pidouzi solemnly proclaimed the dogma of the Assumption.
02:24In the apostolic constitution, munificentissimus Deus.
02:29He declares that Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was raised body and soul to heavenly glory.
02:37This does not mean that Mary ascended by her own strength.
02:42Unlike Jesus who ascended by his divine power during the Ascension,
02:47She was taken to heaven by the grace of God.
02:52This is a sign for us.
02:55What happens to Mary announces our destiny.
02:59If we remain faithful to God.
03:01The Assumption reminds us that our life on earth is a path to eternity.
03:09Mary shows us the way.
03:11She is the model of pure faith, humility and selfless love.
03:18In her we see that God lifts up the humble.
03:22She is our sign of hope, especially in times of trial.
03:27And his glorified body in heaven assures us that death is not the end.
03:33It is a passage to the encounter with God.
03:37In France, thousands of pilgrims gather in Lourdes, Chartres, Puy-en-Velay and Cotignac.
03:48In Brittany and the Mediterranean, maritime processions carry the Virgin by boat.
03:55In Italy, the festival is marked by spectacular processions in Sicily.
04:00In the Philippines, Spain and Latin America, the day becomes an explosion of colors, flowers and dances.
04:10Everywhere it is a day of joy, family gatherings and blessings.
04:16The Assumption is not just an event of the past, it is a sign for our future.
04:26Mary, the first disciple, the first saved, is already there where God awaits us and she reaches out to us.
04:35O Virgin Mary, assumed into heaven in body and soul, most pure and tender Mother, we entrust ourselves to your intercession.
04:46You who believed without ever doubting, teach us to walk in faith.
04:51Help us to love as your Son loved us and lead us to eternal glory.
04:57Amen
