07:30Reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Romans.
07:33Brothers and sisters, whatever was written previously was written for our instruction,
07:39that by endurance and by the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.
07:46May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with each other,
07:52in keeping with Christ Jesus, that with one accord you may, with one voice,
07:58glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
08:03Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you for the glory of God.
08:08For I say that Christ became a minister of the circumcised to show God's truthfulness,
08:16to confirm the promises to the patriarchs, but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy.
08:25As it is written,
08:26Therefore, I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing praises to your name.
08:33The word of the Lord.
08:35Thanks be to God.
08:36Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
08:49Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
09:15Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
09:37The Lord be with you.
09:42And with your spirit.
09:44A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
09:47Glory to you, O Lord.
09:51John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea, and saying,
09:57Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
10:00It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said,
10:06A voice of one crying out in the desert,
10:09Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
10:14John wore clothing made of camel's hair and had a leather belt around his waist.
10:20His food was locusts and wild honey.
10:23At that time, Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the whole region around the Jordan were going out to him
10:31and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins.
10:38When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism,
10:44he said to them,
10:46You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
10:52Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance.
10:57And do not presume to say to yourselves,
11:00We have Abraham as our father.
11:02For I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
11:09Even now, the axe lies at the root of the trees.
11:14Therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
11:22I am baptizing you with water for repentance.
11:26But the one who is coming after me is mightier than I.
11:30I am not worthy to carry his sandals.
11:34He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
11:39His winnowing fan is in his hand.
11:42He will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into his barn.
11:47But the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.
11:52The Gospel of the Lord.
11:55Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
11:57I believe in one God.
12:00God, the Father of mine, maker of heaven and earth,
12:04for all things visible and visible.
12:07I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
12:10the Holy Spirit of the Son of God,
12:13for the Father before all ages,
12:15God from God, the night of the night,
12:18for God to give God.
12:20He has not made unsubstant to the Father,
12:24through Him all things to gain,
12:26for us again and for our salvation,
12:29given out of heaven,
12:30and by the Holy Spirit,
12:32who was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
12:34and became man.
12:36For our Savior, He was crucified with a bunch of spot.
12:40He suffered again and was buried,
12:42and was again on the birth of the day,
12:44and the forest of the scriptures.
12:46He has sent to heaven,
12:48the deceased and the right of the Father.
12:51He will come again in order to judge us,
12:53who was born in the dead,
12:55and his people was born in heaven.
12:57I believe in the Holy Spirit,
13:00for all the glory of God,
13:02who received from the Father and the Son,
13:04who is the Father and the Son,
13:06who is adored and glorified,
13:08who has spoken to the prophets.
13:09I believe in one holy Catholic and apostolic church.
13:14I confess all baptism for the forgiveness of sins,
13:18and look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
13:21and the life of the world to come.
13:23Amen.
13:24For the renewal of the church,
13:26that the Lord may sanctify her during this holy season of Advent,
13:30let us pray to the Lord.
13:32Lord, hear our prayers.
13:34For our parish community,
13:36that the Lord may draw us together in and through the sacramental life of the church.
13:42Let us pray to the Lord.
13:43Lord, hear our prayers.
13:45That the Advent devotions of our church,
13:48including penance service and concerts,
13:51may bring us together and more ready to celebrate our Savior's birth.
13:56Let us pray to the Lord.
13:58Lord, hear our prayers.
14:00That our care of the needy will be a necessary activity during Advent.
14:05Let us pray to the Lord.
14:07Lord, hear our prayer.
14:09For our deceased relatives and friends,
14:12and all the departed,
14:14that they may be gathered into the eternal joy of their heavenly home.
14:19May they rest in the peace of Christ.
14:21Let us pray to the Lord.
14:23Lord, hear our prayer.
14:25For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts.
14:30Let us pray to the Lord.
14:34Lord, hear our prayer.
14:36We pray for Juliet, Josephine, Mary Chilamigris.
14:40For Bill Powers, Roberta and Diana Jimenez.
14:44Joseph Kern, Daniel Nikes, Ida Di Benedetto, Carolyn Powers.
14:50For an end to all war.
14:52We thank God for the message of repentance.
14:56May we use this season of Advent to return from sin.
14:59Turn back to God.
15:01Through Christ our Lord.
15:02Amen.
15:03Amen.
15:03Come, Lord, my people, and calm all your fears.
15:24The day of salvation is quickly drawing near.
15:35The Lord come to see
15:41We'll soon set you free.
15:47Oh, come, Lord Jesus, come.
15:58Oh, come, Lord Jesus, come.
16:05Last week I was explaining the Mass a little bit, but I ran out of time.
16:15So tonight I will just finish it out, especially to do with the Eucharist.
16:19So in the early church at the offertree, everyone would get up and put their gifts on the altar.
16:25And it wasn't money.
16:27It was things like potatoes and vegetables and whatever people needed to live on.
16:32That's what they brought.
16:34And then people wanted to know what people were giving.
16:37So around the 3rd century to the Middle Ages, they had these elaborate processions.
16:42And then the procession was dropped.
16:44And this was brought back by Vatican II, the offertree procession.
16:49David mixed the wine and the water.
16:53Very important.
16:54It symbolizes the mystery of Christ and the church.
16:57In the Eastern church, the Orthodox church, it symbolizes the divinity and the humanity of Christ.
17:04And while the choir was singing, I said in silence the prayer,
17:09Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation.
17:11For to your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, the wine we offer you.
17:15That's the Jewish prayer of blessing.
17:18If you're ever present at a meal with the Jews, that's the prayer they're going to say.
17:22It's called the Kadesh prayer.
17:24And then the prayer over the gifts was said in the early church, but in the Middle Ages it was said in secret and brought back verbally by Vatican II.
17:38So pray, my brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, our Almighty Father.
17:47May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and good of all, his holy church.
17:56Be pleased, O Lord, with our humble prayers and offerings.
17:58And since we have no merit to plead our cause, come we pray to our rescue, with the protection of your mercy, through Christ our Lord.
18:07Amen.
18:08The Lord be with you.
18:11And with your spirit.
18:13Lift up your hearts.
18:14We lift it up to the Lord.
18:15Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
18:17It is right and just.
18:19It is truly right and just.
18:21Our duty and our salvation are always and everywhere to give you thanks.
18:25Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord.
18:29Lord, for he assumed at his first coming the lowliness of human flesh, and so fulfilled the design you formed long ago, and opened for us the way to eternal salvation, that when he comes again in glory and majesty, and all is at last made manifest, we who watch for that day may inherit the great promise, in which now we dare to hope.
18:48And so with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the hosts and powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we acclaim.
19:18Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna, Hosanna.
19:48Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest.
20:06We have ten Eucharistic prayers to choose from at every Mass, and the oldest one we have this fixed is from Hippolytus from the 3rd century, and that's the one we'll use tonight.
20:18And all of the Eucharistic prayers, at first they were improvised.
20:23The priest prayed as much as was within him, but he always had to use the words of Jesus from the Last Supper, and that's the consecration part.
20:31So it begins with the preface.
20:34We just had the preface.
20:36It's a public announcement for what's to follow.
20:38Then we have the Epiclesis, which is calling down the Holy Spirit to change the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
20:48Then we have the institution narrative, or the consecration, the words of Jesus at the Last Supper.
20:54Then right after that we have the elevation of the body and blood of Christ, and the altar servers ring the bell.
20:59Then we have the acclamation.
21:04This was part of the early church, dropped in the Middle Ages, and brought back by Vatican II.
21:10We have the anamnesis, remembering all that God has done for us.
21:15We have the offering that God will accept our petition, our offering.
21:20And then we finish up with the doxology.
21:23Anyone know what the doxology is?
21:25How does it begin?
21:26Very good, very good.
21:29Through him, with him, in him, and all things lifted up in Christ.
21:33And then we finish up with the great Amen, which is your most important prayer at Mass.
21:39So it should always be sung, and everyone should sing.
21:43You should lift the roof of the church with a great Amen.
21:46It means you believe everything that has just taken place.
21:49You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
21:56Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
22:02so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
22:07At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion,
22:11he took bread and giving thanks broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,
22:16Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
22:23In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice,
22:33and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying,
22:37Take this, all of you, drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood,
22:42the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
22:44which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
22:50Do this in memory of me.
22:53The mystery of fate.
23:07Save us, Savior of the world,
23:12For by your cross and resurrection
23:17You have set us free
23:24Save us, Savior of the world,
23:33For by your cross and resurrection
23:38You have set us free
23:45Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
23:52we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
23:55giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
23:59Humbly, we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
24:02we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
24:05Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world,
24:08and bring her to the fullness of charity,
24:10together with Leo, our Pope,
24:12Louis, our Bishop, and all your people.
24:15Remember also our brothers and sisters
24:17who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection
24:19and all who have died in your mercy.
24:22Welcome them into the light of your face.
24:24Have mercy on us all, we pray,
24:28that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
24:30with Blessed Joseph, her spouse,
24:32with the Blessed Apostles,
24:34and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
24:37we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
24:40and may praise and glorify you
24:42through your Son, Jesus Christ.
24:45Through him, and with him, and in him,
24:48O God Almighty Father,
24:49in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
24:52all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
24:55Amen.
25:19Look at the crucifix now.
25:27Our greatest dignity as human beings is
25:30we're children of God.
25:31So as a child of God, pray from the heart
25:33with as much volume as you can.
25:36Our Father,
25:36Father, who art in heaven,
25:38hallowed be thy name,
25:40thy kingdom come,
25:42thy will be done,
25:44on earth as it is in heaven.
25:46Give us this day our daily bread,
25:49and forgive us our trespasses,
25:51as we did live those who trespass against us,
25:55and lead us not into temptation,
25:58but deliver us from evil.
26:01Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil,
26:04and graciously grant peace in our days,
26:07that by the help of your mercy,
26:09we may be always free from sin
26:11and safe from all distress,
26:12as we await the blessed hope
26:14and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
26:17For the kingdom, the power,
26:19and the glory of your Lord,
26:20is now and ever.
26:23Lord Jesus Christ,
26:24who said to your apostles,
26:25Peace I leave you,
26:26my peace I give you,
26:28look not on our sins,
26:29but on the faith of your church,
26:30and graciously grant her peace and unity,
26:33in accordance with your will,
26:35who live and reign forever and ever.
26:38Amen.
26:38Peace of the Lord be with you always.
26:41And with your spirit.
26:42Let us offer each other a sign of peace.
26:45Peace be to you, Father.
26:55Lamb of God,
26:59you take away the sins of the world,
27:05have mercy on us.
27:13Lamb of God,
27:17you take away the sins of the world,
27:24have mercy on us.
27:31Lamb of God,
27:36you take away the sins of the world,
27:42grant us,
27:47grant us peace.
27:57Behold the Lamb of God,
27:58behold him who takes away the sins of the world,
28:01blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
28:04For I am not worthy that you should enter my room,
28:08but only say the word,
28:10and my soul shall be healed.
28:12May the body and blood of Christ keep us safe for eternal life.
28:15Amen.
28:16My Jesus,
28:18I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
28:22I love you above all things,
28:23and I desire to receive you into my soul.
28:27Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
28:30come at least spiritually into my heart.
28:32I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you.
28:37Never permit me to be separated from you.
28:41Amen.
28:42Please stand, bow your heads, and pray in silence.
28:46Replenished by the food of spiritual nourishment,
28:53we humbly beseech you, Lord,
28:55that through our partaking in this mystery,
28:58you may teach us to judge wisely the things of earth,
29:01and hold firm to the things of heaven.
29:03Through Christ our Lord.
29:05Amen.
29:05Lord be with you.
29:07And may Almighty God bless you,
29:10the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
29:13Amen.
