00:00Hello there. Welcome to paradise. I don't think we could begin Getaway's Holidays in the Sun special in a more magnificent location.
00:15And over the next hour, we are going to take you from one sunny, lovely location to the next.
00:21From the crystal clear waters of Bora Bora...
00:24It's here! It's here!
00:26This one looks nice, eh?
00:28To Australia's own Green Island.
00:32Out of the 300 sand caves in the Great Barrier Reef, this is the only one with a rainforest.
00:39Mexico's famous Cabo San Lucas to the more secluded Goron Island in the Philippines.
00:46You can see right to the bottom. It's just amazing.
00:49As well as beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka and Thailand.
00:54So grab your sun cream, pop on a hat, sit back and relax.
00:58And enjoy Getaway's Holidays in the Sun.
01:01I'm pretty sure if Heaven was a place on Earth, it would look like Bora Bora.
01:14Even the locals call it the Pearl of the Pacific.
01:18Now this Lagoon Cruise is a return getaway trip for me. It involves sharks and stingrays swimming with them.
01:25I was a little overwhelmed the first time around. So I'm hoping, second time, I'm a little more chill.
01:29Wish me luck.
01:30The tiny island of Bora Bora in French Polynesia is actually considered to be one of the most beautiful holiday spots in the world.
01:36What do you think makes Bora Bora Bora stand out? Why is it different here?
01:46The difference here? Is it just the colours? Is it incredible? Yes.
02:07The two colours, wide colours, don't we see the water here almost like one, two metres. Why come to my office?
02:19I like your office. Can I stay? Why not?
02:23First order of business, a meeting with the locals.
02:27Now we see the race all we do there.
02:34It's okay, it's okay. Just stay relaxed.
02:36Okay. Just stay relaxed.
02:40Wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold on, hold on, hold on.
02:43Relax.
02:45Hold me through it, hold me through it.
02:46Hold me through it, hold me through it.
02:47Hold me through it, hold me through it.
02:48There, here, see?
02:49Very, very soft.
02:51So, we've just met.
02:57This is an instant friendship.
03:00OK, I've got a shark.
03:01I've got a stick right here.
03:02You see the shark?
03:03I'm cool.
03:04Yeah, all right.
03:05Nico assures me that the black tip reef sharks
03:09and the stingrays are not dangerous at all.
03:12Once I calmed down, I kind of loved it.
03:21Well, you have to admit,
03:35this was a completely amazing experience.
03:38It definitely should earn a place on your bucket list.
03:47So, the full day tour also visits
03:50the top snorkelling spots in the lagoon,
03:53which is protected by a surrounding barrier reef,
03:56which, of course, makes it super calm
03:58and super easy to get to.
04:01Now we are at the coral garden place here.
04:03It's like a four, five, six metres deep water,
04:06shallow water and clear water.
04:08Coral garden, what do you see exactly?
04:10Huh, we saw a lot of fish.
04:11I'm not sure about this page.
04:13Oh, why?
04:15Are we going to see more sharks?
04:17I don't think so.
04:18Good, OK.
04:19I'm all right with that.
04:20Here with non-sea sharks.
04:29The coral gardens here
04:31are just kind of like cities beneath the surface,
04:36full of fish and coral,
04:38all playing their little part in the reef's ecosystem.
04:43Honestly, a day on the water in Bora Bora
04:46is an embarrassment of riches.
04:50They have it all.
04:52It's not enough that you get to swim
04:55with the stingrays and sharks,
04:57but then you go on to these coral gardens
04:59and they are loaded, loaded with fish.
05:02It is such a compliment.
05:04It must be said to how they care
05:05for their waters.
05:07I am that impressed.
05:10And if that's not enough,
05:12the tour ends with a final surprise.
05:15Now let me show you your local place.
05:17Love it.
05:18Sounds good.
05:19Croissant crew.
05:20Croissant crew is a fish.
05:21This is a yellow tuna.
05:23Okay.
05:24Sea cucumber, lime, coconut milk.
05:27A traditional lunch
05:31served on a private island.
05:45And while this ends our lagoon tour,
05:48no, the day is not over yet.
05:51I mentioned that this place
05:52is called the Pearl of the Pacific,
05:54so how about we visit a pearl farm?
05:56This has got to be
06:01one of the best experiences
06:03in all of Bora Bora.
06:05Diving for your very own
06:07Tahitian black pearl.
06:11Cultured in the black-lipped oyster,
06:14the pearl grows layer by layer
06:17over the years.
06:19Excellent.
06:20You got it.
06:22Excellent.
06:23It's back to the shore
06:25to see what treasures
06:26are hiding inside.
06:28There you go.
06:29Got the baby.
06:30Got the baby.
06:32Tahitian is bigger, better.
06:34Is it more expensive?
06:36Yes.
06:36Listen, the size matters.
06:40Can you see already
06:41if there's one in there?
06:42Can you tell me?
06:45Can I see one on the edge?
06:48I think I see one.
06:50Okay.
06:51Let's have a look inside.
06:53If I push this,
06:54now, Milly, you see.
06:55I was looking in the totally wrong spot.
06:58Totally wrong side.
06:59It's huge!
07:00It's huge!
07:01Yeah, this one looks nice, eh?
07:03S'est grand!
07:04S'est grand!
07:05S'est grand!
07:06All right?
07:07This is where nature
07:08and tradition work hand in hand
07:11to produce one of French Polynesia's
07:13most prized possessions.
07:16And there you go.
07:17All right.
07:18And there's your pearl, eh?
07:20A little piece of the Pacific
07:21that I will treasure
07:23for the rest of my life.
07:25The only jewel that we produce
07:27is here in French Polynesia
07:29and I'm very proud
07:30that it's part of my culture, eh?
07:32That's why I'm very happy
07:33to share it with you today.
07:35Have a very nice one as well.
07:37I got lucky in Bora Bora.
07:38In Bora Bora,
07:39the pearl of the Pacific.
07:41That's your pearl.
07:42This is just
07:43the lagoon
07:44that keeps on giving.
07:46Air Tahiti Nui
07:58is the flagship carrier
08:00of the islands of Tahiti

08:11Coming up next,
08:15holidays in the Australian sun.
08:18Leave your worries
08:19on the mainland.
08:20The Great Barrier Reef
08:21certainly lives up to its name.
08:23Some places are beautiful
08:41above the surface
08:42while other places
08:44are stunning below.
08:45Well, this island
08:46has the best of both worlds.
08:49You've got one of the
08:50seven natural wonders
08:51of the world
08:51right under your feet.
08:53And out of the 300 sand cays
08:55in the Great Barrier Reef,
08:57this is the only one
08:59with a rainforest.
09:01Welcome to Green Island.
09:04Just 45 minutes
09:06by boat from Cairns,
09:07Green Island
09:08is one of the easiest day trips
09:10to the Great Barrier Reef.
09:13With great adventures
09:14running ferry transfers
09:16and tours.
09:18Or you can check into
09:19the family-friendly
09:20Green Island Resort,
09:22which offers
09:23plenty of experiences
09:24that dive a little deeper
09:26into this unique ecosystem.
09:29We'll explore
09:30the rainforest soon,
09:31but first,
09:32it's time to get wet.
09:35The water looks beautiful.
09:37I'm excited.
09:38Are you ready?
09:38I'm totally ready.
09:39You ready?
09:39Yes, let's do it.
09:40All right, let's go.
09:41Guided snorkelling tours
10:05explore the magnificent
10:06coral gardens
10:07that surround the island.
10:09And with marine biologists
10:13like Phil leading the way,
10:14you get a greater appreciation
10:16of this underwater world.
10:22Phil, that was so amazing.
10:24I'm a little speechless right now.
10:27Are you still in awe
10:28from what we just saw
10:29after all these years
10:30of coming here?
10:30After 40 years of me
10:31coming out here,
10:32I still love it every time
10:33just like we just saw then.
10:34It's magic.
10:36This is one of 2,800
10:38different individual reefs
10:39that make up
10:40the Great Barrier Reef.
10:41We've got hundreds
10:42of different species
10:42of fish and coral
10:43right off the beach here
10:45off the island.
10:45So that's why we think
10:47this is one of the
10:47more special places.
10:50For families
10:51and first-timers,
10:53this is one of the
10:54gentlest ways
10:55to meet the Great Barrier Reef.
11:01Mother Nature's work
11:03continues above the water.
11:06Step ashore
11:08and you'll discover
11:09why Green Island
11:10is one of the rarest
11:12places on Earth.
11:14So many things make it
11:15one of the most unique
11:16sand caves on the
11:17Great Barrier Reef,
11:17if not the world.
11:19But of course,
11:19the very obvious fact
11:21that we have rainforest
11:22that is dense as it is
11:24on a sand cave
11:25built on top of a reef.
11:27I think that is astonishing.
11:29It is.
11:30How did that happen?
11:31That's a really good question.
11:32I mean, we know
11:32how the sand cave was built.
11:34It was built by
11:34the accumulation of sand
11:36and coral grit,
11:36things over time
11:37building up on the top
11:39of the reef,
11:39creating an island.
11:41For rainforest to grow,
11:42you need accessibility
11:43to a rainforest
11:44to begin with.
11:45So we have Cape Tribulation.
11:47We've got that
11:48World Heritage Listed location
11:49not too far away.
11:50Yes.
11:51So we have a source.
11:52Ah!
11:52It's the birds.
11:53So the birds created
11:55the rainforest.
11:56So the birds basically
11:57have been transferring
11:58rainforest seeds
12:00across from the mainland
12:02to this island
12:03for thousands of years.
12:05And then you get
12:06this wonderful habitat
12:07which is grown on top
12:08of a sand cave
12:09which has been built
12:10on a reef
12:11thanks to the fish.
12:13And I think
12:13that's the most fascinating
12:14to have a connection
12:15with two World Heritage
12:16listed environments
12:18in one place.
12:19And they coexist beautifully.
12:21Green Island Eco Resort
12:37embraces the unique environment.
12:40Nestled among the rainforest,
12:42it offers affordable
12:43family accommodation
12:44for a laid-back island holiday.
12:47Resort guests enjoy
12:58a range of free activities,
13:00tours and daily sunset drinks.
13:07By this time,
13:08the day visitors have left
13:10and you've got the island
13:11almost to yourself.
13:13Leave your worries
13:18on the mainland,
13:19toes in the sand,
13:21coral reef is your backdrop.
13:23The Great Barrier Reef
13:24certainly lives up to its name.
13:34I wonder if we'll all remember
13:36what it feels like
13:39Welcome to the real-life postcard
13:49that is Bunker Bay.
13:50This place is up there
13:51with some of the most
13:52incredible stretches
13:53of coastline in all of WA.
13:56And in a state
13:56that is world-famous
13:57for its beautiful beaches,
13:59that is really saying something.
14:04Bunker Bay is in the spectacular
14:06southwest corner
14:08of Western Australia,
14:09around a three-hour drive
14:11from Perth.
14:16Pullman Bunker Bay
14:17is the only resort
14:18in the area
14:19and it's a pretty
14:20flash one at that.
14:29As you'd expect
14:30from a Pullman resort,
14:31you've got all the
14:32five-star luxuries
14:33and facilities,
14:34but here,
14:35you're also completely
14:36immersed in nature.
14:38Not a bad place
14:39to recharge the batteries.
14:52With around 150 modern villas,
14:55some with lake views
14:56and others with
14:57direct beach access,
14:59Pullman Bunker Bay
15:00does a good job
15:01of making sure
15:01this pristine beach
15:03doesn't entirely
15:04steal the show.
15:10Away from the beach,
15:12it's just a 10-minute drive
15:13to one of the region's
15:14best breweries.
15:18Eagle Bay Brewing Co.
15:19is a family-owned
15:21and run restaurant
15:21and microbrewery
15:22located on a working farm.
15:24So, Kegs,
15:26this is the inner sanctum.
15:27This is where
15:28the magic happens.
15:29Absolutely.
15:30What's the process
15:31to create the beer?
15:33It will start
15:33with me on the computer,
15:34the boring-looking part
15:36where I do all the maths
15:37to make sure
15:37all the science works.
15:39And then behind me
15:40here's the brew house,
15:41so we'll have brew day
15:42or work production.
15:43And so we'll brew
15:44through here,
15:45which will take us
15:45a couple of hours,
15:46and then we'll
15:47transfer into tank
15:48where we'll pitch
15:48east and ferment.
15:50And then we'll add
15:51any hops
15:51if it's a particularly
15:52hoppy beer.
15:53We'll filter it,
15:54we'll send it up top,
15:55and then we'll carbonate it
15:56and package it all Kegs.
15:57But, of course,
15:58the best part
15:59of any brewing process
16:00is the tasting.
16:02We'll work our way
16:03through the core range,
16:04starting off with Kolsch,
16:06our flagship beer,
16:07certainly our biggest seller.
16:08You're going to have
16:08one with me, champion?
16:09Absolutely.
16:10Cheers.
16:10Cheers, mate.
16:17Oh, that is nice.
16:18Not bad.
16:19That is beautiful.
16:21I love that.
16:22That's a real
16:23summer drink.
16:24Yeah.
16:25As well as making
16:26a top drop,
16:27the brewery
16:28has become known
16:29for its epic location.
16:33The southwest
16:34in particular,
16:35it's such a beautiful
16:36region,
16:36and any chance
16:37you get to be in nature,
16:38you're going to go
16:38absolutely short.
16:39Absolutely.
16:40I want you to stay.
16:42Back at Bunker Bay,
16:44and while the Pullman
16:45has a superb restaurant
16:46on site,
16:47just a short walk away
16:48is another delicious option.
16:50Ilma Beach House
16:54is an elevated
16:55dining experience
16:56tucked away
16:57behind the dunes.
16:58Go on,
16:59go on,
16:59do it.
17:01Ilma,
17:01by meaning,
17:02is Maltese
17:03for the word water,
17:04and that represents
17:05our family heritage,
17:07and the restaurant
17:08is inspired by
17:09what we have here
17:10on our doorstep,
17:12but also the fact
17:13that it's aligned
17:14with the Mediterranean
17:15way of life.
17:19And as you'd expect,
17:20the pristine waters
17:21around here
17:22are loaded
17:23with fresh seafood,
17:24which forms the basis
17:25of Ilma's menu.
17:27Our chef has
17:27a wonderful relationship
17:29with local fishermen
17:30who will share
17:31with him daily
17:31their current catches
17:33and give him
17:33the option
17:34of what fish
17:34will be serving
17:35that week
17:35in the restaurant.
17:40Fresh seafood,
17:42views like this
17:43in Bunker Bay.
17:45I think I've found paradise.
17:47Cheers.
17:57Coming up next,
17:58holidays
17:59in the Mexican sun.
18:00Water's like a bath.
18:02I love it.
18:11Mexico is a holiday
18:12maker's mecca.
18:14There's vibrant cities,
18:15ruins for those
18:16after a bit of history,
18:17and of course,
18:18there's beaches
18:19for the drop and flop.
18:21But which one to choose?
18:26This is Medano Beach
18:28at sunny Cabo San Lucas Bay,
18:31Mexico.
18:31Just a quick 30-minute dash
18:33from the international airport
18:34and the ideal drop and flop.
18:39Here,
18:40where the Mexican desert
18:41meets the sea,
18:42the beach buzzes
18:43with tourists
18:43soaking up
18:4440-degree sunshine
18:45and bath-warm,
18:47crystal-clear waters,
18:48while resorts
18:50line endless stretches
18:51of postcard-perfect
18:53coastline.
18:55With so many options
18:56begging for your attention,
18:58picking the perfect
18:59Cabo resort
19:00is like ordering tacos
19:02on an empty stomach.
19:03It's just overwhelming.
19:05So,
19:05where do you start?
19:07Well,
19:07I got you covered.

19:20for your epic stay
19:21in Cabo.
19:22The name Corazon means
19:25heart.
19:25Yeah,
19:25so it's because
19:27of our prime location
19:28on the main beach
19:29and it's because
19:30also of our team.
19:31We've got people
19:32that have worked here
19:32since the beginning
19:3330 years ago
19:34and the familia Corazon
19:36is what drives this place
19:38and it's the hospitality

19:41that our people have
19:42that I think

19:44from everything else
19:45in Cabo.
19:45All right,
19:49let's take a cheeky peek
19:50inside the hotel's
19:51glam new tower
19:52and find out
19:53why everyone's
19:54losing their maracas

19:57You've got floor-to-ceiling
19:59sliding glass doors,

20:10landmarks.
20:11I mean,
20:11come on,
20:12that view

21:26to Carbo?
21:27Yeah,
21:28we're here
21:28on a mate's birthday.
21:29We're all from
21:29Australia
21:30and it's our first
21:31time in Mexico
21:32and we wanted
21:33to find a place
21:34in Carbo
21:34that was like
21:35super central,
21:36you know,
21:37on the beach.
21:37Are you hitting it hard?
21:38Oh, dude,
21:40fully,
21:40fully,
21:41you know,
21:41drinks,
21:42food.
21:42This hotel
21:44steals the spotlight
21:45right on the bay
21:46with plush sunbeds
21:48and food and drinks
21:49just a wave away.
21:50You got all the classics,
21:51jet skis,
21:52snorkelling,
21:53even schmoozing
21:53on a multi-million dollar yacht
21:55and when you need a break,
21:58wander the sand
21:58for local goodies
21:59and tasty beach snacks
22:01before grabbing a board
22:03and paddling off
22:04into the crystal clear blue.
22:06Here we go.
22:09Out here on the paddle board,
22:10we've got a party
22:12going on on the beach here.
22:15It's just the best way
22:16to soak in the Baja coastline.
22:19How good is this?
22:21The coast is cruising along.
22:23Water's like a bar.
22:25Oh,
22:27I love it.
22:32If you're more of a
22:33why leave the hotel
22:35kind of traveller,
22:36you're in luck.
22:37This place has two slick pools
22:39complete with swim up bars
22:40for all day sipping.
22:43And up top,
22:44you'll find
22:45a local legend
22:46Baja Brewing
22:46pouring over 10
22:48custom craft brews
22:49on tap.
22:52Head all the way
22:53to the tippy top
22:54and you'll hit
22:55rooftop 360.
22:57Yep,
22:57you guessed it,
22:58360 degree views.
23:02Gracias.
23:04Ah,
23:05don't forget,
23:06the all-inclusive pass.
23:07Another margarita
23:08is just a lift away
23:10and the perfect way
23:11to end an epic day
23:13here in Carver.
23:19Still to come,
23:20more of Getaway's
23:21holidays in the sun,
23:22including Hanging Ten
23:24in Hikadua.
23:26The coastline
23:27is amazing.
23:28The beaches
23:29are epic.
23:30So I knew
23:30we had to do
23:32a story along here.
23:33Cruising around
23:34Corrin Island.
23:36I honestly,
23:36I lack the words
23:37to say how clear
23:38this water is.
23:39All I'm going to say
23:39is I'm getting back
23:40in there.
23:41But next,
23:43relaxing like royalty
23:44in Thailand.
23:46This is where
23:46the Thais themselves
23:47holiday
23:47and have been
23:48the summer residence
23:49for the royal family
23:50since the 1920s.
23:52Before we welcome
23:53Hoda Al-Zubaydi
23:55to the Getaway family.
23:57From beautiful
23:57brunch spots
23:58to hideaway accommodation,
24:00it's a place
24:01you can visit
24:02and just exhale.
24:03I'm going to get away
24:05welcome to Khoa Khin,
24:19a quaint seaside town
24:20with all the charm
24:21and character
24:22Thailand is known for
24:23minus the crowds
24:24of tourists.
24:26This is where
24:26the Thais themselves
24:27holiday
24:28and has been
24:28the summer residence
24:29for the royal family
24:30since the 1920s.
24:32So,
24:33if it's good enough
24:34for the royals,
24:35I figure
24:35it's worth a look around.
24:37Khoa Khin lies
24:38just three hours south
24:39of the Thai capital
24:40of Bangkok.
24:41Its proximity
24:42to the city
24:43makes it a popular
24:44choice for locals
24:45as well as tourists
24:46keen to escape
24:47the crowds.
24:48Yeah,
24:49I guess that's why
24:50Thai people
24:50love Khoa Khin
24:52rather than
24:53any other beaches
24:54nearby Bangkok
24:55because kids
24:56can enjoy it.
24:58You see,
24:58they can run around
25:00safely.
25:01the wave is not
25:02that high
25:03and nice breeze
25:04coming through.
25:09Why are there
25:10so many horses
25:11on this beach?
25:12Ah,
25:12they're here
25:13since the royal family
25:14bring in a horse cart
25:15a long time ago
25:17and ever since
25:18they're always here
25:18and it's become
25:19a symbol of Khoa Khin
25:20Beach now.
25:21And you're from
25:22bustling Bangkok
25:23so do you like
25:25to get away
25:25down here?
25:25Oh,
25:25I love it.
25:26I love to be here.
25:28Whenever I'm here
25:29I can just sit back
25:30and relax.
25:30One of its most
25:36iconic attractions
25:37is the local
25:38train station
25:39originally built
25:41in the 1920s
25:42to serve the royal family.
25:44It's one of Thailand's
25:45prettiest railway stations
25:46with a unique blend
25:48of Victorian
25:48and Thai architecture.
25:50Is this a common look
25:51all around Thailand
25:52or is this a special one
25:53in particular?
25:54No,
25:55this is a special one
25:55the only one
25:56in the country.
25:57So did the royal family
25:58use this train line?
25:59Yeah,
26:00they do.
26:01And do they still use it?
26:02They still use it,
26:03yeah,
26:03come to town.
26:04We still have a
26:05pavilion for the royal family
26:06then.
26:13Another must-see attraction
26:14in Khoa Khin
26:15is the Cicada Market.
26:17A night market
26:18with a magical backdrop
26:19that originally started
26:20as a hub
26:21for the local creative community.
26:26This is how the markets
26:28get started off.
26:29We have a local artist
26:30gathered together
26:31and they want a place
26:33to perform their products,
26:36you know.
26:36And then it expanded
26:37from here.
26:37So it started with the artists
26:39showcasing their works.
26:40That's right.
26:40Now it's food
26:41and craft
26:42and a lot of other things.
26:43That's it.
26:45It's definitely
26:46the place
26:47to stock up
26:47on souvenirs
26:48and indulge
26:49in local flavours.
26:51But it's not
26:52usual Thai shopping
26:53experience.
26:55It's unlike
26:56any other
26:56Thai market
26:58I've seen before.
26:58I'm used to,
26:59you know,
26:59quite tight spaces
27:00and noisy
27:01and lots of things
27:02going on.
27:03But this is
27:03such a different feel.
27:05I guess this market
27:09really reflects
27:10the city
27:11as a whole.
27:12Mimics that
27:12very relaxed vibe.
27:18There's so much
27:19pineapple.
27:20I see pineapple jam,
27:22dried pineapple,
27:23pineapple cake.
27:25Yeah,
27:25and this one cracker.
27:27Why so much pineapple?
27:29Because this area
27:30is well known
27:30for pineapple.
27:31But I would say
27:32the weather
27:33is actually
27:33playing a big role
27:34for it.
27:34It needs heat.
27:36That's why
27:37it will bring out
27:37all the sweet flavour.
27:40It's not too sweet.
27:47It's just nice.
27:49Very refreshing
27:49on a hot night like this.
27:53I see these
27:54at all the markets
27:56and to be honest,
27:57I haven't got
27:57the husband
27:58the present yet.
27:59So what more
28:00could he want
28:00than a picture
28:01of me for the office?
28:04Are you finished?
28:11Oh, I'm nervous.
28:15Oh my gosh,
28:16he's going to love it.
28:19This market,
28:20like the rest
28:21of the town,
28:22has the kind
28:22of easy,
28:23relaxed vibe
28:24that forces you
28:25into holiday mode.
28:26I think the royals
28:27were on to something.
28:41Stretching out
28:42along its very own
28:43peninsula,
28:44it's stunning Palm Beach.
28:45From beautiful brunch
28:47spots to hideaway
28:49accommodation,
28:50it's a place you can
28:51visit and just exhale.
28:53Palm Beach,
28:56or Palmy,
28:57as the locals
28:58call it,
28:58is a one-hour drive
29:00from the Sydney CBD.
29:04At Sydney's
29:05northernmost seaside point,
29:07it's known for its
29:08surf beach,
29:09glamorous homes,
29:10outdoor lifestyle
29:11and coastal culture.
29:15Brunch is considered
29:16a main meal here
29:17and for that,
29:18it's hard to go past
29:19local icon
29:20Baron Joey House.
29:21Sitting opposite
29:28Palm Beach Wharf,
29:29this historic venue
29:30has coastal charm
29:32in spades.
29:34Baron Joey House
29:35has been here
29:36since 1923,
29:37so over 100 years
29:38old now.
29:40This heritage-listed
29:42restaurant is a hot
29:43destination for locals
29:44and day-trippers
29:45exploring the area.
29:47So we're pretty
29:48versatile.
29:49They can come in
29:50for a snack
29:51and a beer
29:52or they can come in
29:53for a dinner as well.
29:54Now the food
29:54looks sensational.
29:56Yeah,
29:56we've got a lot
29:57of classic dishes
29:58with a modern twist.
29:59Prawn cocktail,
30:00we have crab toast
30:01which goes down
30:02very nicely
30:03with a beer
30:04or a glass of wine.
30:05Or a cocktail.
30:06Or a cocktail,
30:07mezcal,
30:08or a mojito,
30:09definitely.
30:10We've got Sydney rock
30:11oysters as well.
30:12I don't know
30:12where to begin.
30:13Should I start
30:13with a con cocktail?
30:14What do you say?
30:15You can't go wrong
30:16wherever you start
30:16to be honest.
30:17No better place
30:18to start
30:18than some oysters.
30:24That's so fresh.
30:28If you want
30:29to burn off brunch,
30:30you can tackle
30:30the hike
30:31up to the lighthouse
30:32or hit the beach
30:33to surf some waves.
30:34But if relaxation
30:35is more your vibe,
30:36why not dive
30:37straight into
30:38your accommodation?
30:41If you're looking
30:42to stay somewhere
30:43a little bespoke
30:44and a little remote,
30:46then look no further
30:47than the Lilypad,
30:48your very own
30:49floating oasis.
30:52This floating apartment
30:54is made for Instagram.
30:56It boasts
30:56five-star luxury interiors
30:58and it's 100% off-grid.
31:03Upstairs features
31:04a king-size bed
31:05with premium linens.
31:08Downstairs you have
31:09a full-size kitchen
31:10with a beautiful
31:11designer lounge
31:12and a smart TV.
31:14But my personal favourite,
31:15it's this beautiful view
31:17that you get
31:17from every single angle.
31:23There's no need
31:24to swim
31:24to board this vessel.
31:26A host
31:26and private tender
31:27transfer you out
31:28and get you settled.
31:31The fridge is stocked
31:33and a cheese board
31:34at the ready.
31:34The initial reaction
31:38is, wow,
31:39it's a lot bigger
31:39than it looks
31:41in social media
31:42and also just
31:43how secluded it is,
31:45how quiet it is.
31:46You're actually
31:46living on the water
31:48and people think
31:50it'd probably
31:51be a lot more rough.
31:52It's quite stable
31:53even though
31:54we're a floating vessel.
31:55Now there's more
31:56to what meets the eye.
31:58Tell me,
31:58what else can you do here?
31:59So there's lots
32:01of things
32:01that you can actually
32:02relax and take it easy.
32:03It's Netflix
32:04and you can take it
32:05as easy as you want
32:06but if you want more
32:07there's stand-up paddleboard.
32:09We also have
32:09a little boat
32:10that comes with
32:11the lily pad
32:12and there's lots
32:13of beaches
32:14that you can explore.
32:15Swim, sauna,
32:17hot tub.
32:18There's a bit of
32:18massage here.
32:19There's massages as well
32:21if you'd like
32:21to add a massage on.
32:23So...
32:23It's leaps too
32:26but you can add
32:27up to 24 people.
32:29So we've had weddings,
32:30we've had
32:31birthday celebrations,
32:33engagements.
32:36Well I think
32:37we need to cheers
32:38to one of the most
32:39spectacular views
32:40in Sydney.
32:42Cheers.
32:43If the water
32:43is a little bit cool
32:45like it is today
32:46the hot tub
32:46is your friend.
32:48What a way
32:49to end the day.
32:50In the water,
32:51on the water
32:52with one of the most
32:53spectacular views
32:54of pit water.
32:55Palm Beach,
32:57you've really
32:57won me over.
33:05Coming up next,
33:07holidays in the
33:08Sri Lankan sun.
33:09My ideal
33:11seaside holiday
33:12is where I can
33:13wake up
33:14and walk
33:14straight out
33:15onto the beach.
33:15When I told people
33:27that I was coming
33:28to Sri Lanka
33:28for the first time
33:29almost everyone
33:30who had been here
33:32before said to me
33:33the coastline
33:34is amazing,
33:36the beaches
33:36are epic.
33:37So I knew
33:38we had to do
33:39a story along here
33:40but I didn't really
33:41know what to expect.
33:42Surfing is a thing
33:43to do here.
33:43I am terrible
33:44but I'm willing
33:45to give it a go.
33:47Let's get in there.
33:50The low-key
33:51coastal town
33:52of Hikadua
33:53is around
33:54two hours drive
33:55south of the
33:56Sri Lankan capital
33:57of Colombo.
33:58Hikadua
33:59is considered
34:00one of the
34:00original
34:01surf destinations
34:02in the country
34:03and it is still
34:04the number one
34:05pastime.
34:06I look for you
34:07Would you avoid me
34:09or would you look for me
34:11Welcome to Hikadua Beach.
34:12I'm Sopun.
34:14Yeah.
34:14The conditions
34:16are pretty good today.
34:17You know,
34:18nice and glassy,
34:19small waves,
34:20perfect condition
34:20to learn to surf.
34:22How come this surf
34:23here is so good?
34:24Well,
34:25maybe it's our location.
34:26You know,
34:27Hikadua is one
34:27of the most
34:28consistent surf
34:29break in Sri Lanka
34:30and ideal for
34:31beginners,
34:31intermediate,
34:32advanced surfers,
34:33you know,
34:33or longboarders
34:34or like,
34:35you know,
34:35twin pin
34:35or you name it,
34:36you know?
34:36Yeah.
34:37I just want to warn you,
34:38I have tried surfing
34:40a couple of times.
34:41I'm not very good.
34:42No worries.
34:43All the process
34:44has gone through that,
34:45you know,
34:45so we learn from the cold,
34:46like,
34:46you do your best
34:47and believe in yourself,
34:49what you think,
34:49what you get.
34:50Let's do this,
34:50right?
34:51Okay?
34:54Sopun is a born
34:55and bred
34:56Hikadua local
34:57and will help you
34:59brave the waves
35:00whatever your level
35:02or lack thereof
35:03in my case.
35:04You're not going
35:08to believe it
35:09but mere
35:10minutes in the water
35:11and Sopun
35:12has made me
35:13one very happy
35:14surf chick.
35:18As well as
35:19running surf lessons,
35:21Sopun
35:21with his gorgeous
35:22Aussie expat wife,
35:24Mel,
35:25own the resort
35:26that opens
35:26straight out
35:27onto the surf break.
35:29How did you know
35:31which spot
35:33along this gorgeous
35:33beach to buy?
35:35Well,
35:35Sopun and I
35:36on our sunset walks
35:37before kids
35:38used to always
35:39walk past this spot
35:41and we thought
35:42if we could ever
35:43buy a place
35:43on the beach
35:44one day
35:44this would be the one
35:44and it so happened
35:46that it came up
35:47for sale
35:47and yeah,
35:49the rest is history.
35:53Amaru is just gorgeous.
35:56It's a casual
35:57beachside abode
35:58with eight rooms.
36:00It's simple style
36:01and small size
36:02give it a completely
36:04chill out
36:06low key holiday vibe.
36:07My ideal
36:09seaside holiday
36:11is where I can
36:12wake up
36:13and walk straight
36:14out onto the beach
36:15and that's what
36:16you've got here,
36:16isn't it?
36:16You can definitely
36:17do that here, yeah.
36:18So I think it's
36:19about 20 metres
36:19to the shore
36:20so yeah.
36:22Straight out
36:23right in.
36:25The water is beautiful.
36:26Yeah,
36:27Indian Ocean is so warm
36:28you don't need a wetsuit
36:29and you can swim
36:30if you don't surf
36:31you can just
36:31jump in the sea.
36:37Hickadua
36:38or Hicka
36:40to the locals
36:40has been known
36:42over the years
36:42as a sleepy
36:43little surf town
36:44but not anymore
36:45it is waking up
36:47with slick cafes
36:49with great coffee
36:50like the salty
36:51Schwams
36:51owned by two
36:53Sri Lankan brothers.
36:55Yeah,
36:55I guess you could say
36:56a lot of our knowledge
36:57when it comes to
36:58the hospitality industry
36:59is from our time
36:59spent in Melbourne.
37:01We both studied there
37:02after high school.
37:04We came back on holiday
37:05and we saw
37:06that there was
37:06a scope for
37:08this kind of like
37:09Melbourne style
37:10hospitality
37:10so there was no
37:11coffee machine
37:12there was no one
37:12doing juices
37:13or smoothies
37:13no one doing
37:14eggs for breakfast.
37:16Yannick and Yevon
37:18split their time
37:19between surf seasons.
37:21We've got
37:21Aragam Bay
37:22on the east coast
37:23from May
37:24until October
37:25and here
37:26in Hicka
37:27on the south west coast
37:29for the remainder.
37:30Well we knew
37:31we wanted to come
37:32to Hickadua
37:32because there's
37:33a lot of history
37:34here when it comes
37:35to surf culture
37:36and Salty Swami's
37:37is a lot about
37:38the celebration
37:39of the surf culture
37:40here through art
37:41and through music.
37:44You know
37:44no matter
37:45which side of the coast
37:46you are on
37:47Sri Lanka
37:48is famous
37:49for its magical sunsets.
37:53Sapan's favourite
37:54time of the day
37:54is sunset
37:55he never misses one.
37:56You know
37:56it's incredible
37:57this is where you get
37:58to live and work
38:00and be in love.
38:00Yeah I thought
38:01like you know
38:01there's a
38:02big opportunity
38:03with tourism
38:04in Sri Lanka
38:05you know
38:05we have a great
38:06location
38:06and you get
38:07a lot of tourists
38:07travelling here
38:09and then why not
38:09start your own
38:10things right?
38:11I just cannot believe
38:12how well
38:13our day
38:14has finished up.
38:16Thank you for all
38:17of this
38:17it is just incredible
38:18so many people
38:19told me about
38:20the beaches
38:21in Sri Lanka
38:21the coastline
38:22of Sri Lanka
38:23I understand
38:24what they're
38:25talking about now.
38:26Incredible.
38:27Coming up next
38:33holidays
38:34in the Filipino sun.
38:36Honestly
38:36the water is so clear
38:39it's like swimming
38:40in nature's pool.
38:49Welcome to paradise
38:50this is the Philippines.
38:53Now if you've already
38:54been to the usual
38:55destinations
38:56Bali
38:56Fiji
38:57Thailand
38:57then maybe this
38:58is the next
38:59island frontier
39:00for you to try.
39:06The Philippines
39:07is an archipelago
39:08of over 7,000 islands
39:10for natural beauty
39:12crystal clear lakes
39:13and world class
39:15underwater life
39:16I can highly recommend
39:18Koron Island
39:19southwest of the
39:20capital Manila.
39:24Day tripping by boat
39:26from the town
39:26from the town
39:26from the town
39:26of the same name
39:27will give you a taste
39:28of the very best
39:29of it.
39:32Just the look
39:33of these islands
39:34has such an unusual
39:35structure about it.
39:36Yes sir
39:37actually it looks like
39:38a sleeping giant.
39:40I can see that now
39:41it looks like the head
39:42right there
39:42look it up.
39:43You can see the nose
39:43the mouth
39:44so is this the body
39:45here going down
39:45to the legs?
39:46Yes.
39:47Okay
39:47looks
39:48I see it now
39:49I see it.
39:57Just 20 minutes
39:58by boat
39:59and we arrive
40:00at Kayangan Lake
40:01an absolutely
40:02breathtaking spot.
40:04This is amazing.
40:07It is.
40:07Look how clear this is.
40:08Actually this is known
40:09as the clearest
40:10and cleanest
40:10inland bodies of water
40:12lake in the Philippines.
40:13In the Philippines?
40:14Yes.
40:14You can see
40:15you can see right
40:15to the bottom
40:16it's just amazing.
40:18Crystal clear water.
40:19I feel like I want
40:19to dive in right now.
40:21It's only like
40:22not about for
40:23the view
40:24so you have to
40:25try the water also.
40:26And I can confirm
40:32swimming in here
40:33feels every bit
40:35as good as it looks.
40:41I honestly
40:42I lack the words
40:43to say how clear
40:43this water is.
40:44All I'm going to say
40:45is I'm getting back
40:46in there.
40:51Koron Island
40:52is also known
40:53for its wreck dyes
40:54with an entire
40:55Japanese supply
40:56fleet sunk here
40:57by US planes
40:58in World War II.
41:01Skeleton wreck
41:02is one of its
41:02most popular
41:03and despite its name
41:04there were no
41:05casualties from its demise.
41:08See I was worried
41:09they called it
41:09skeleton wreck
41:10because there might
41:10have been skeletons
41:11in there
41:11but it's not that at all.
41:12No.
41:13That's because
41:13the long time
41:14it was on the
41:15bottom of the sea
41:16so it's metal
41:17it gets rusted
41:19and then
41:20the only parts
41:22remains are the
41:22skeletal.
41:23Right.
41:23So that's why
41:24they called it
41:25skeleton wreck.
41:26Accessible from shore
41:28and with a depth
41:29at one end
41:29of just five meters
41:30skeleton wreck
41:31is one of the few
41:32sites that are
41:33easily explored
41:34with just a snorkel
41:35and a mask.
41:35That is some of the
41:49best snorkelling
41:50I have had
41:51anywhere.
41:52It's like you don't
41:52even want to get out
41:53of the water
41:53but the best part is
41:54if you want to go
41:55find a new site
41:55just a quick five
41:57ten minute boat
41:57right away.
41:58Where are we going
41:58next guys?
42:05We've barely had
42:05time to get dry
42:06before we jump
42:07back in at
42:08Coral Garden
42:08a sanctuary for
42:10marine life
42:11and beautiful
42:12corals.
42:13It's hard to pick
42:14what's more
42:14spectacular
42:15the scenery below
42:16the surface
42:17or above.
42:18So whereabouts are
42:19we right now?
42:20Exactly we're here
42:22at Twin Lagoon.
42:23Twin Lagoon.
42:23Twin Lagoon gets
42:48its name from
42:49its side-by-side
42:50pair of lagoons
42:50divided by sheer
42:52limestone walls.
42:53This is so cool
42:55like we're just
42:55going past all
42:56these beautiful
42:57limestone cliffs.
42:58Let's go into
42:59this little cove
42:59here I'm feeling
43:00adventurous.
43:02We have a lot
43:04of small cove
43:05like this in
43:05this island.
43:06Wow!
43:12In just one
43:13day trip you can
43:14see so many of
43:16Caron's highlights
43:16from snorkelling
43:17a shipwreck to
43:18swimming in the
43:19clearest waters
43:20of the country
43:20kayaking along
43:21these ancient
43:22limestone cliffs.
43:23This is the
43:24Philippines I've
43:25seen only in
43:26photos and
43:26online and it
43:27really does live
43:28up to the hype.
43:35Thank you so
43:36much for taking
43:37your holidays
43:38with Getaway.
43:39Next week we are
43:40jumping on board
43:40two of the world's
43:42greatest ocean
43:43yachts as we
43:44cruise from
43:45Greenland.
43:46And if like me
43:46you've never been
43:47here you're really
43:48in for a big treat.
43:50Through the
43:51Myrden Caribbean
43:51This is the
43:53holiday that
43:54dreams are made
43:54of.
43:55And down to the
43:56Southern Ocean.
43:59We cannot wait to
44:00travel with you
44:01then.
44:02See you later.
