00:00that is a picture perfect postcard it's
00:08paradise paradise on earth
00:11huge difference in color from the Pacific
00:14to the Caribbean Caribbean ocean is just
00:17unmatched are there sharks in these walls
00:24Bocas del Toro an archipelago of tropical
00:28islands along the northwest coast of
00:30Panama ranging from uninhabited natural
00:33wonders to the colorful stilted
00:36clapboard houses of Bocas town this has
00:39been a proper vengeance story I think
00:41we've seen that growth to first we were
00:44in total shock yeah competition in the
00:49penultimate leg of the race promises to
00:52be tight as just 43 minutes separates the
00:55top three teams and for the first time
00:58Dylan and Jackie sit in poor position
01:01don't slip up you've got the pressure of
01:03leading the pack now don't like it we don't
01:04want pressure crumble we crumble still
01:08after that first place at one point I've
01:10had dreams where I'm like we come first
01:12and like shoving and needs from when we
01:19first met Dylan he was a different person
01:20to who he is now now I feel like he's
01:23grown into himself throughout this journey
01:25and now I'm ready to beat it I was quite
01:29gutted when we opened the book no you
01:31were human I was I was pretty I was pretty
01:33mad because I felt like we've done so well
01:38how would the top two become the bottom two
01:41I know character building I think we felt
01:44sorry for her we're not too far behind we
01:49know our strengths and when we start
01:51moving way we move we move four legs in
01:54everyone is hot on it now yeah like
01:57everybody's found their river obviously
01:59we finished last but it's all to play for
02:02every man for themselves on this one you
02:05thought we were racing before oh we're on it
02:07we're changing gear it's gear five now two
02:10legs to go yeah we race yeah
02:22what day
02:276 30 a.m first to leave the checkpoint
02:30Wednesday yes race leaders Dylan and Jackie
02:34ready ready your fifth checkpoint is Medellin
02:40I swear that's Colombia I think I've seen
02:43it in like a Pablo Escobar series oh really
02:46I think over 1,300 kilometers away
02:48Colombia's second largest city Medellin
02:51sprawls across the Abura Valley in the
02:54northern end of the Andes mountain range as
02:59the epicenter of Pablo Escobar's drug
03:01cartel it was once labeled the murder
03:04capital of the world but now it's a
03:08safer and vibrant metropolis
03:12okay all teams have to bypass the
03:16Darien Gap by water for safety reasons
03:20this journey has to be in daylight hours
03:22Darien Gap I've heard that can be a bit
03:25dangerous the notorious and perilous
03:28Darien Gap the only land connection
03:31between Central and South America but no
03:34roads run through its dense jungle and
03:37vast swamps for tens of thousands of
03:40migrants each year this treacherous
03:42expanse much of it controlled by criminal
03:45gangs is their only route north to reach
03:50Colombia the teams have one option to
03:53travel by sea but first a chance to
03:58explore Panama Panama is quite funny
04:01shape it's kind of like a like a goose
04:03neck there seems to be a main road going
04:05through yeah yeah they may be tempted to
04:08grab opportunities in the west with its
04:12allure of well-paid work and hidden
04:14natural beauty or the adventurers could make a
04:18beeline for the east coast and the
04:20secluded turquoise ringed islands of
04:23guna yala
04:24also known as sandblast an autonomous
04:27territory home to the indigenous guna
04:29people on the last leg just being in
04:32nature and it gave me a sense of calm and
04:35it would be nice to have a nature feast
04:38again definitely something like hot water
04:40springs yeah waterfalls yeah yeah that'd be
04:43amazing so if we go south maybe buquette
04:47there might be like something around there
04:49yeah and then follow this big road through
04:52to panama city yeah it's also very difficult to
04:55judge whether we have enough money for the
04:58whole trip or not we've hemorrhaged a bit
05:00yeah with budgets dwindling dylan and
05:03jackie have the least amount of money to
05:06tackle the longest leg of the race so far
05:10it's just the unknowns of of these these
05:12countries we don't know but this is our
05:15penultimate leg so i want us to stand in
05:19good stead for the last leg by saving in
05:22this leg here we go hola hola to continue
05:26their journey teams need to get off the
05:28islands of bocas del toro boats depart
05:31regularly to almirante the closest mainland port
05:35where they can pick up onward transport
05:38we need to get to boquette right now it's the actual
05:42put a boat to the main island and then bus
05:45shorter to boquette would it not be quicker for us to get a boat now to almirante and there's any
05:51almirante travel to boquette sooner it's possible but it's more expensive
05:56i recommend you go a street to boquette but a tour
05:59okay so shall we book it yeah let's book it 30 each yeah
06:03rather than risk finding a connection in the port of almirante
06:07dylan and jackie opt for a package deal transfer of boat and bus
06:11to boquette in the western highlands we could get a quicker ferry but then
06:17it's a bit risky juggling buses which are not that regular over there from what i can
06:21gather also it might be more expensive that right so it makes more sense to wait for three hours i
06:28think it's smart to save money we can speed up later while the leaders sit tight that's where we're
06:35headed medagin having departed half an hour behind them and now on their tails siblings roman and harley
06:43moon this is our last time for a proper like cultural adventure do you know what i mean yeah roman
06:50found the first few legs quite stressful and i really felt like i had to look after him a lot
06:54but on the last leg he's been quite calm so i hope he realizes it is fun as well we're gonna have to
07:03get the boat from panama so mandingua is a tiny island in the direction of colombia which is good
07:09yeah it is home to a single guna family i mean the only thing is is i'm an arsenal fan i like gunas
07:16i think we can live in our own bubble at times and traveling somewhere and seeing what their
07:23version of life is i think it offers perspective the faster we can get to panama city the better
07:30seeking an off the beaten track experience while staying race focused roman and harley moon plan to
07:36head via panama city straight to gunayala harley look jackie and dylan we see them yeah so what's
07:46the fastest way to panama city yeah i was hoping not to see another team yeah so our best bet is to
07:53get to almirante yes and then get the bus to panama yeah let's just get off this island we got two
08:00tickets six gracias they're getting on the boat but i don't think we should be stressed by it yeah we
08:09shouldn't sweat about that why are they not getting on this boat off the island i can still see them why
08:15they're not getting away poodles hi adios we're all in holly we'll see you in medien i hope
08:27technically it feels like we're ahead of the team at first yeah here we go router mass wrap it up got it
08:34yep one two three as the siblings make a quick getaway just 12 minutes behind them so my instinct is
08:44we take a job anita and bal eager to find ways to preserve their budget worker shift at rocks is
08:50in boca chica down here yeah and then you're by the main road to get to panama city panama is mega
08:59bucks and so saving money is definitely part of the strategy because we know we're going to probably
09:04need as much as we can for when we get to columbia anita's plan working at a bnb to save an
09:10accommodation in the cherokee province en route to the capital almirante muchas gracias
09:23the first team to arrive on the mainland
09:28roman and harley moon searching for a bus straight to panama city
09:32and
09:42okay that's the bus should we get that we can't wait till six
09:51okay yeah let's do it yeah with no direct bus departure for seven and a half hours
09:57the siblings head to a nearby transport hub in search of an earlier connection come on david
10:03must wait up give us some luck give us some faith do you reckon dylan and jackie made it off the island yet
10:10having finally reached almirante port by boat mother and son are still waiting for their bus to depart
10:23for bocchetti like london area yeah like england yeah yeah cool in medellin we did the boat to san
10:31blas don't do it like that okay the waves were like three meters tall oh my gosh people were crying
10:38dogs are barking we're going to columbia we might be doing that
10:45well thank you and you enjoy as well yeah i was crying she said yeah oh god
11:00right now the buses are ready okay this way thank you gracias so we got going at most six hours ago
11:07yeah slow stop makes you wonder whether where we're going is a bit in the middle of nowhere
11:13that's why there's not such a regular bus service hopefully we can make up the ground
11:18and finish strong we'll say positive yeah how are you doing sir you okay to take us to the terminal
11:27excellent just arriving off the boat into almirante molly and tyler swift start with a seven
11:34hour gap to close they're on a dash to the bus station hopefully get an overnight bus to panama city
11:42and then grab a boat into colombia yeah is there a direct bus to panama city let me see
11:49is the map space oh no thank you ma'am he's gonna check if there's space on the bus that's great
11:56yeah have space to panama direct from here yes oh man yeah you have you have luck that was reaching
12:04about five o'clock in the morning yeah yeah perfect yeah amazing
12:10this is good this is awesome man you are the best man thank you thank you sir
12:1811 hours of travel over halfway across the country and it's a nice accommodation there you go
12:25get the boss get the boss get the boss yes this is going to help us catch up majorly to the other
12:35teams this is the redemption leg for us this is catch up leg yeah taking the bus roman and harley moon
12:42passed on earlier molly and tyler are making a 600 kilometer overnight leap to panama city
12:49i feel like tomorrow morning this is basically like a level playing field we need to just continue
12:56this energy we can't take our foot off the gas
13:01look at the skyscrapers first time we've seen skyscrapers this entire trip after successfully
13:05securing a connection in david the siblings are the first team into the capital i'm quite impressed by
13:11panama city towering over the pacific the wall street of central america one of the region's wealthiest
13:20cities it's become a magnet for millionaire migration it really feels like we're in the us i have a feeling
13:27it's going to be us prices in a way you're a bit gutted to not spend time in a nice city but
13:34on our budget i don't think we can afford to stay here oh lift what we haven't had lift in ages
13:44this is very modern yeah electricity and everything i feel quite good about our progress today we've
13:51pretty much covered half of the country in a day we're about to cross the guna yalla i don't know much
13:58about the darien gap but it doesn't sound safe there's moments in this race where we've both
14:05decided we will not tell our mum about it and this might be one of those moments
14:19it's got such a nice feeling about it here you have holler monkeys every morning who are here yes
14:25okay coming this way we have the guests today around here already nice if you can give me the
14:33hand and put those in the tables for everybody same for everybody exactly 450 kilometers west from
14:39panama city and sitting on the gulf of chirokee national marine park the small fishing village of
14:45boca chica this is going to be the best torch you've ever seen in life
14:49anita and bal are working to pay off last night's accommodation at roxy's bnb this looks so delicious
14:59buenos dias there we go and one for the little boy all right this is ready to go who hasn't had
15:07breakfast yet you're emptying them yep i'll watch them look at dad he's washing the dishes he's really good
15:16he's so cute oh my god we'll have these done in minutes he's such a hard worker i want to keep it
15:22longer there we go you were really helpful for us i want to show you the area that would be amazing
15:33this village is just 200 people i had the experience from costa rica that i used to run hotels
15:39i'm like i can't start a bed and breakfast by myself my place is running by girls all women just
15:45women wow they have their own families but no a husband single women i told them i can teach you
15:52some english you can run the place with me together we have to empower women in a small village like this
15:58i just want them to know how valued they are that is special for me this is the dream roxy you're
16:04amazing thank you i feel like i'm being told something myself right that there are things that
16:10i'd like to do there's been a bit of a change in my life in the last couple of years
16:19come on dad let's have a little meander before we have to get on it again becoming single in my mid 40s
16:25is huge a lovely cove wow not a soul here growing up there was so much expectation that you must get
16:35married and have children and so now it's not just a process of letting go of a past life it's also an
16:42embracing of a new one i've been in a bit of a funk but what i saw in roxy is what i know i have in
16:50myself drive tenacity and that's your strength before there was always this pressure that i had
16:59to keep everyone happy but now this whole trip is making me think there's so much that i want to
17:04do it's like a sense of liberation dad as a woman but particularly as a south asian woman i i really
17:13enjoy the how powerful it feels to be able to choose to live the life i want to and actually
17:20i had my dad's support maybe i have sacrificed having a family but i i'm okay with that in this
17:27trip has opened up my eyes about lamar about you how you feel and how you think do you ever worry
17:33about me dad we sometimes say oh who's she with is she by herself because you feel lonely and that's
17:39why we sometimes phone you up and say come and sit with us we don't want to be lonely that's all
17:44i'm not lonely so don't worry about me being lonely i'm good i'm very happy yeah because you're
17:50sticking with me now i know this is incredible
17:55we made it panama city early doors arriving into the capital after their overnight bus
18:12molly and tyler we've had a toilet wash yes we smell fresh we smell fresh and we need to find
18:20where we can get this ticket to the gunayala islands yeah the only way for tourists to get
18:25safely to colombia without flying is to take a four by four transfer from the capital to the panamanian
18:31coast followed by a boat journey through gunayala to the border in here let's go
18:39all right hola we're trying to cross the gunayala to get into colombia
18:46habla ingles poquito no
18:49le voy a a daru telefono gracias hola hola can you please take us to gunayala sure
18:59thank you very much i can do that and how much will it cost
19:03the price yeah it's 155 per person
19:11155 per person yeah you pay me directly 155 each okay and that's the best price
19:21wow that is absolutely spend dog
19:28oh right my life savings have just gone
19:38that is basically our whole leg budget yeah that's the most expensive thing we've paid for
19:45there's nothing we can do oh we're such a curve for
19:48i mean thank god we save that we can spend that money
19:58to reach the port a 120 kilometer journey that winds around the sandblast mountains
20:05to the guna coast we are in the sticks man and there's nothing but jungle
20:12it makes you think how hard it is to get to the border and the coast what the darien gap is actually
20:20like and how it's so inaccessible yeah trying to go through this any other way would be
20:26a wild journey there's just so much bush
20:29this is boss level winding road this is helter-skelter salt park
20:38see audience al maria yeah right don't be sick in the car basically now he said it no you don't honey
20:48imagine what a ball like tarmac in this is
20:54let's go let's go
20:59are you the captain captain okay this is this boat oh it's absolutely tiny this boat is safe right
21:12yeah is it fast boat rapido yeah excellent that's what we need right now
21:19let's go to the island passage through the guna yala is limited to daylight hours only
21:26it's got a bit of oh my god thank god this seat's got a bit of cushion
21:32night time presents the danger of rough seas and shallow reefs as well as an increased risk of cartel
21:38activity this is the toughest journey at sea of the biggest waves i've ever seen in my life
21:49oh lord have mercy right now upon our souls you have to have a strong stomach first
22:00it's proper pirate life please i thought we paid for a luxury cruise
22:05you okay i'm a bit uneasy right now i'd say i'm not living my best life you know you'll be okay
22:18i thought you were holding on to me and i realized you were just holding the money belt
22:22yeah keep that precious fighting for my life against these waves and you're worried about the bloody money
22:28you're worried about oh this is proper adventure
22:41going at a less urgent pace oh see that blue oh my gosh it's coming towards us
22:48it's blue dylan and jackie are exploring the highlands of western panama
22:53holly and roman are definitely ahead of us but are they experiencing anything like this we don't know
23:01hidden away deep in the cloud forest oh wow the haguata waterfall
23:09look at this guy no way locals and travelers come to swim in its clear pools
23:15and for the brave the opportunity to jump from its eight meter high ledge i'd be so scared
23:23dad would be straight in the water now we'd make a big splash oh my gosh
23:32let's go to the kiddie pool that's more our speed
23:35well that's divine when i'm in nature i feel like i'm close to heaven or something
23:49i think through losses i have i feel closer to them when i'm in those moments of serenity and beauty
23:58that's amazing when i was 22 i met my first husband i was due to have james my first son 19th december
24:10and um on the 21st of december there was a knock at the door and there was two fluorescent jackets
24:20they said we just want to let you know that your husband has been knocked over by car and killed
24:25instantly i had james and um i found it very difficult on my own i eventually got my act
24:39together and got on in life and coped and i met barry who i married
24:45i've never swum near waterfall before so clear the water tears isn't it
24:55we had cameron and then 10 and a half months later dylan came around so i had three little
25:01boys under three it was absolute chaos
25:03are you missing dad yeah i am but i actually think dad not being here has made me push the
25:14boundaries of me as a person and made me grow yeah because i've always relied on dad to
25:20do things for me exactly we've had our little moments of braveness on our own it's cemented our bond
25:27even more and we support each other with james and things you know and it's it's been tough
25:36losing two people very close in my life definitely has changed me as a person
25:43when um james had gone i was internalizing it trying to be brave and put brave face on for boys
25:50it took me a while to be strong again but i've had to be strong as a mother to my boys
25:59i just want to say thank you so much for everything and of course i do it it's done i just don't think
26:05about it i just would always help you and love you and protect you yeah and i want to protect you
26:12you know i want to protect you and just yeah like you deserve the world you're the best mom
26:20i don't think i'm the best mom no you are you are i'm really proud of the way you've grown up
26:27and you probably you don't need me anymore now i know i always need my mom always need mama
26:34oh my gosh that is the most beautiful sand i've ever seen in my life after over an hour at sea
26:49molly and tyler are making a pit stop we've got to jump off on here this is too special not to
26:55thank you gunayala is made up of a narrow strip of shoreline on the fringes of the darien gap
27:08as well as more than 350 islands in the crystal clear waters of the caribbean
27:15how on earth did ants get here that's crazy they're so crafty babe look at this
27:22oh that's another level isn't it wow
27:27hello s what oh piss off you idiot you absolute idiot after the spanish colonized colombia in the 1500s
27:38the guna population gradually migrated towards the sandblast islands eventually renaming the region gunayala
27:46there are no luxury hotels or resorts and outsiders are banned from owning property
27:53i've literally never ever in my life been somewhere this remote i don't quite get it yeah
28:02roman and harley moon are docking on the 168 meter long mandingua island
28:09let's go say hello wild they're staying with the tejada family who have lived here for generations
28:16along with their menagerie of dogs chickens and pigs
28:20hi
28:24oh
28:29It's called Orion.
28:31Orion?
28:34And here is the name of Guna Yala.
28:39Yes.
28:40Is it correct?
28:41Sorry for my Spanish.
28:43Guna is for us, Tules.
28:45Yes.
28:46Or aborigines.
28:47Yeah.
28:48Yala is, all this mountain is Yala.
28:51People are Gunas.
28:53Gunas?
28:54In London, my football team is called Gunas.
29:00Yes?
29:01Yes.
29:02Yes.
29:03Arsenal is Gunas.
29:08They are my family.
29:15Gunas is Spanish or no?
29:17No.
29:18The dialect is Gunas.
29:19The dialect is Gunas.
29:20Yes.
29:21In English, it's mate.
29:22Mate?
29:23Mate.
29:24I feel so far from home being on this island, but it's nice to be in a family environment,
29:40to be honest.
29:41There's a wolf here.
29:43W-S-Y-C.
29:46Very good.
29:48Very good.
29:49Very good.
29:50My sister is called Harley Moon.
29:53Harley Moon.
29:54Harley Moon.
29:55Harley Moon.
29:56Yes.
29:59I'm very much in love with you, pig.
30:02If I stay here for the rest of my life with this pig and Roman, we'd probably do okay.
30:07All right then.
30:0835 kilometres ahead, Molly and Tyler are the closest team to Colombia, but with boats restricted
30:20from travel after dark, they're bedding down on Isla de Pinos.
30:24Sunset on an island.
30:29We smashed it.
30:30It's actually blowing my mind that we've been travelling for 27 hours, so it feels like
30:37a massive weight lifted to be on this island.
30:41Moles, they've got hammocks.
30:43Um, okay.
30:44Hola.
30:45Can we stay here?
30:46Yeah.
30:47Okay.
30:49Well, there's a touch.
30:50See, this is it.
30:51I can do this.
30:52This is vibes.
30:53This is true island living.
30:55What is that?
30:56Is that an ant?
30:58This is the first night I've ever spent in a hammock in my whole entire life.
31:16Um, Molly's hammock is nicely protected with a mosquito net.
31:20My mosquito net is on me like it's my wedding day.
31:23There's no lights.
31:25There's no electricity.
31:26There's just the sounds of the waves and the sun that's going to wake us up.
31:31And that's quite actually special but scary at the same time.
31:34But this is the most we've ever felt alone.
31:38How are you doing, Moles?
31:40Not great.
31:41Yeah.
31:42You're protected though, innit?
31:43Not really.
31:44Over on Mandiangwa Island.
32:01Looks harder than it looks.
32:11This has actually been a really special place for us to stop.
32:15There's not a TV.
32:17There's not a radio.
32:18It's just animals and family.
32:21I think coming to places like this are really good for people like me,
32:25you know, who sometimes can get lost in our own world.
32:29What's so funny is that you could feel like you're in the middle of nowhere
32:32but you'll still find siblings performing for guests.
32:35Yeah, we used to do it.
32:37It just reminds me of us singing Craig David.
32:40Doing dance routines, Shaggy wasn't me.
32:44Thank you, friends.
32:45Ooh.
33:24I'm kind of looking forward to leaving Panama now because of so much expenses.
33:29One step ahead of them, Anita and Bal.
33:33Ready.
33:34To Pile.
33:35Setting off on a crossing that can take as long as eight hours.
33:39Whoooo!
33:40It's a little bumpy.
33:41It's a bit bumpy, yes.
33:42A bit bumpy, yes.
33:43But very good fun.
33:44Well, we like rollercoasters.
33:46We do love a rollercoasters.
33:51In an ideal world, we get to check point tonight.
33:54Yeah.
33:55Except it's a quick, smooth trip.
33:57But I have no idea how long the journey is.
33:59Maybe three or four hours.
34:01I don't know.
34:02Fingers crossed.
34:03Yeah, yeah.
34:05At the front of the park, Molly and Tyler.
34:09Do you feel like jumping back into the race?
34:15Not just yet.
34:17Oh, look at that.
34:20That's a proper traditional fisherman.
34:24I could catch a fish.
34:25You've never been fishing?
34:26I've never been fishing, but that don't matter.
34:28It's about mindset.
34:29Okay.
34:31Buenos dias.
34:33My bro.
34:34Can you show me how to fish?
34:36You teach me.
34:37Okay, let's go.
34:38The Guna people live as their ancestors did.
34:42Farming and fishing sustainably in ulus, handcrafted wooden canoes.
34:48Como te llamas?
34:49Tameleo.
34:50Tameleo.
34:51Me llamo Tyler.
34:52Tyler.
34:53Right, I'm going to give this a go.
34:55Come on then.
34:57Fishing is the least South London thing I could ever imagine myself doing.
35:03I never knew what it was like to grow up in like a nuclear household.
35:07My mum brought me and my brother up on their own.
35:09She's done everything for us.
35:11You just got to drag it.
35:13I never knew what it was like to not see my mum work multiple jobs.
35:19Come on, Tyler.
35:20We wouldn't be able to say a quarter fish.
35:22My mum would take us out and we'd go to like the supermarket at like midnight.
35:26She would say, we're going to play a game.
35:28Who can find the cheapest dinner?
35:29And at the time, me and my brother are running around like, yeah, we're running wild in
35:32the aisles.
35:33Like, it's like supermarket sweet.
35:34And then we'd go home for whatever we could afford and then she'd make the dinner and
35:37then she'd tuck us in and then just the reality of that situation is that she was struggling,
35:42but she never let up.
35:43Oh!
35:44Oh my God!
35:45Molly!
35:46Molly!
35:47What?
35:48I caught a fish!
35:50Yay!
35:51Come on!
35:54Oh my gosh.
35:55I'm holding a fish.
35:56I'm holding a fish.
35:58Yes!
35:59I knew we could do it.
36:01Oh.
36:02Oi!
36:04This is so good.
36:06Honestly.
36:07Muchas gracias.
36:08Molly Brayford!
36:10She's going to have to marry me, aren't she?
36:13How many fish you got?
36:15What?
36:16Five.
36:17Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
36:18That's what I was talking about.
36:20I'm proud of you.
36:21Yeah?
36:22It was actually really special because, like, I've never had that growing up, like,
36:28going out, learning how to fish and stuff like that.
36:30And it's one thing that I know, as a dad, one day, I would love to be able to take my
36:35kids out and say, hey, come on, let's go fishing.
36:37I feel on top of the world.
36:39I feel on top of the island.
36:45You go out every day?
36:47See you.
36:48Every day.
36:49Roman is also throwing himself into the Guna way of life, joining Senor Blas to collect
36:55food supplies from his farm on the mainland, where plantain fields line the coast.
37:02We're the first?
37:09Yes.
37:10Wow.
37:16It's snakes here.
37:18Yes, culebra.
37:20Just like that he's got the knife and I've got the handbag.
37:25This feels like a proper step into the jungle.
37:31This is hard work.
37:32These plantains are not light either.
37:36It's a really nice feeling.
37:37You're not thinking about anything and you've just got a job to do.
37:41It is kind of a nice break from your own brain, I guess.
37:45You know, there's been moments in my life where I didn't even want to be here anymore.
37:50And things like this just make me think if I had made different decisions,
37:55I never would have seen this and I never would have experienced this.
37:59And I never, you know, yeah, this shows that there's stuff worth living for.
38:06You know?
38:07It was a bad time in my life.
38:16I remember one moment in particular where it was really bad.
38:25I just remember my mum passing the phone to Harley and Harley trying to just talk to me.
38:34Just to, I guess, distract me and keep me on the phone so that my mum could get in the car and drive to me.
38:42I don't know if I ever actually have spoken to Harley about that call.
38:46I don't think we've ever really been ready to have that conversation.
38:50It's hard to talk about, man. It's really hard.
38:53What I do know is that conversation between my mum and Harley might have saved my life on that day.
39:08That was hard. We walked about an hour into the jungle.
39:19What was it like?
39:22I'm not used to doing stuff that removes me from everything.
39:27Yeah.
39:28But it did make me think, though.
39:31Because, obviously, you know that I've had moments in my life where I just feel like I didn't really want to be here anymore.
39:38Yeah.
39:39What's upset you?
39:46No, nothing.
39:49It's just hard because, like, we had that day where it was really bad.
39:53For me.
39:56The more that I think about it and I realise that it was you on the phone to me and...
40:02Until mum got there.
40:03I can't even remember what the conversation was.
40:18But I knew that I was safe if I stayed on the phone.
40:23And I feel bad because I never really said thanks for that.
40:25That was...
40:28Come on.
40:34I just want you to be okay.
40:37No, I appreciate it so much.
40:40I'm so sorry that I put you guys through that.
40:43It's okay.
40:45I just want you to be happy, right?
40:47You don't need to say thanks.
40:49Yeah, I know.
40:50I don't want to feel like that ever again, and I don't think I will.
40:55I'm sorry that I didn't tell you enough that I love you.
41:00I love you too.
41:06I feel so sad.
41:07Yeah.
41:18We've never had that conversation before.
41:20It's nice to hear him say I love you, but I know he loves me.
41:24When someone has had episodes of really bad mental health,
41:29I think you'll always worry about them.
41:31And I was worried about him coming out here.
41:34And...
41:36He's really turned it around.
41:38And he's doing great.
41:39And I'm really proud of him.
41:43It feels really freeing to have the conversation because...
41:46Now there's...
41:48There's nothing lingering.
41:50We're kind of a clean slate again.
41:52And I think this place will always kind of be special to Harley and I.
41:57All right.
41:58Let's get back on the boat.
41:59It's one of those places you want to take one last look, you know what I mean?
42:04I like it.
42:09Can you get in?
42:11Yes.
42:13Right, back to it.
42:15Aww.
42:17That was amazing.
42:24All four teams are now back at sea.
42:26But with Colombian immigration closing before dusk, there's urgency to get to the border.
42:34We will get there.
42:36We will.
42:38Oh, my gosh.
42:40He's going into boy racer mode now.
42:43What's going on?
42:45Señor?
42:47Why have we stopped?
42:49I stopped.
42:50Until when? What time?
42:52No more.
42:53It's getting dark.
42:54Quanto tiempo to Colombia?
42:56Three.
42:57No, sir, you don't know.
42:59This is it.
43:00They're sleeping overnight.
43:02Anita and Bal have travelled as far as they can safely before night falls.
43:06We've been deserted on a desert island.
43:11The adventure continues.
43:1370 kilometres behind...
43:15I haven't seen the Colombian flag yet.
43:18Mother and son are also dropping anchor.
43:21Yeah.
43:23All right.
43:24Let's go figure out how to get to Medellin.
43:27Hola.
43:28English?
43:29English?
43:31We're looking to get to Medellin.
43:34Medellin.
43:35Colombia?
43:36Si, si.
43:38Long way away.
43:39Long way.
43:40We're not in Colombia?
43:41No.
43:42Oh.
43:43Panama.
43:44Panama still.
43:45Oh.
43:46OK.
43:48OK.
43:49OK.
43:50All right.
43:51I thought we were in Colombia.
43:52I thought...
43:53Well...
43:54OK.
43:58I don't understand where the heck we are.
44:02Hola? Hello? English?
44:03Yes?
44:04Oh, hi.
44:05Where are we?
44:06I could start from Panama.
44:07Yeah.
44:08So, you're right here.
44:09Oh.
44:10OK.
44:11OK.
44:12So, we're trying to get to Medellin.
44:15Medellin.
44:16Oh, Colombia.
44:17Yeah, but we don't know how to get to Colombia.
44:19You've got to first get to shore.
44:21Oh, right.
44:22We're on an island, are we?
44:24How did you guys get here?
44:25By boat.
44:26Well, we got here by boat, but we have no idea.
44:30Dylan and Jackie are still in Gunayala on Nargana Island,
44:34170 kilometres from the Colombian border.
44:37We're going to figure this out.
44:39It is brain rattling that we've landed here,
44:43and it's not where we thought it was,
44:46and we don't know how the heck to get to Colombia,
44:49but I'm going to try and keep positive.
44:52Hola?
44:53Colombia, see?
44:54OK.
44:55What time does it go?
44:56Oh, no, you sleep today, you sleep here.
45:00It goes, stays here today?
45:02OK.
45:05We might be a bit screwed.
45:14We're in the final country.
45:16Oh, my days.
45:18We made it.
45:19This is nuts.
45:21Molly and Tyler are the first team to land on Colombian shores.
45:30We made it by the skin of our teeth,
45:32because immigration has literally just closed.
45:35So someone's looking down at us,
45:38and we've just got to get through Colombia now.
45:40OK.
45:43This looks like a hostel.
45:46On the other side of the border...
45:49Hola, Aquinas.
45:51Para Frontera.
45:56Mañana?
45:57Ocho?
45:58Ocho de la mañana.
45:59Eight o'clock?
46:00Eight o'clock.
46:01Oh, OK.
46:02Great.
46:05We literally got here just after five o'clock,
46:07so we just missed the stamp-up time,
46:10which is a bit dying,
46:11so we'll have to get at it tomorrow.
46:13It's going to be a big day tomorrow.
46:16We'll just be there as early as possible.
46:17I want to be at the front of that queue.
46:19Yeah.
46:22Hola, gracias.
46:23Gracias.
46:24Gracias.
46:26Farthest away,
46:27stock on Nargana Island,
46:29Dylan and Jackie have secured a room for the night.
46:32Oh.
46:33This past couple of days has completely annihilated our budget now.
46:38We're going to have to be canny and careful to get to the end.
46:42I had no idea how difficult doing the race was going to be.
46:46The confusion of, are we in Colombia? Are we in Panama? That was, yeah, quite a tough pill to swallow.
46:56We were almost at breaking point there. But yeah, we're just trying our best to power through.
47:01We still don't know how many hours we've got to go to get to Colombia.
47:10We have no idea where we are. A desert island in the middle of nowhere.
47:14However, tomorrow I am switching into another gear. Whatever it takes, I'm going to get us to the checkpoint tomorrow.
47:24All right, here we go.
47:28Night, Dad.
47:29Good night.
47:35Oh, I hope you don't snore tonight, Dad.
47:37I don't snore. You have this tiny little snores.
47:41Shush, I do not snore. Stop fibbing about me. Shush, shush, Dad.
48:00There's an 8am bottle. Let's get it.
48:02Gracias.
48:07We're back on a boat. Still a bit bumpy. It's all right.
48:12But it's better. I had a good feeling about today.
48:16Teams have one last boat trip across the Gulf of Urabah.
48:21From here, they can head directly by road to the checkpoint.
48:26This is moving pretty quick.
48:28If we get to the end of the second one first, it would have been worth it.
48:31Just to taste it at least once.
48:34One, two, three.
48:35Yeah.
48:36Arriving at immigration, Anita and Bal looking to close the gap.
48:41This border crossing is this?
48:43Let's get our passport stamped and let's get into Columbia.
48:4660 kilometres behind.
48:49Feels like Panama's not letting us go.
48:53Whoa, look at that.
48:55No way.
48:56Bloody hell.
48:57There's loads.
48:59That's amazing.
49:00Yeah.
49:02Makes the journey all worth it.
49:07Goodbye, Panama.
49:08Take three.
49:10Finally reaching dry land.
49:13We're here.
49:15Two teams now on the home straight.
49:18That was a quick boat.
49:19No, I'm a bit windswept.
49:20Get our bags and find the bus station.
49:23Now we need to find a bus.
49:26An express bus.
49:28Oh.
49:30Oh, mate.
49:31Garmin message, what?
49:32Don't send me back the other way.
49:34Due to planned strikes on the approach to Medellin for safety, teams will be shuttled to Betancourt airport and aboard the next available flight.
49:45So there's strikes.
49:47On the approach to Medellin, what does that mean?
49:50Due to rumoured armed attacks in the Antioquia region, the Colombian police and army are on high security alert.
49:58For safety, teams must fly to make a final approach to the checkpoint of Medellin.
50:06Oh, no.
50:08This could be a game-changer, though, because if the flight's not till this afternoon, we'll all be on it.
50:14Oh, God!
50:16This is getting madder and madder.
50:22I'm kind of sad about having to fly to Medellin because I feel like we were really...
50:27On track and aggressive.
50:29But now it all depends what time the next available flight is.
50:33It could change everything.
50:34It could change everything.
50:36Unaware of what lies ahead...
50:38Yahoo!
50:40Point it.
50:42Anita and Bal are on the final crossing.
50:57I think it might have broken down.
50:59We're literally five minutes out the port.
51:02Oh, my God.
51:04We're literally just bobbing around.
51:06I hope another boat doesn't come.
51:08And passes us.
51:09Passes us. Oh, my God.
51:11What is going on today?
51:13Is there a mechanic aboard?
51:19Keep your eyes peeled for any others.
51:22I just don't want to see any other teams.
51:24Whatever happens, we tried really hard.
51:27Mm-hmm.
51:28And I'm proud of us.
51:32I keep checking out of myself.
51:34I don't know.
51:36There's no big power to speak to you like that.
51:38We are having the nightmare journey, Dad.
51:40After they're set back at sea, Anita and Bal are making up time.
51:43Right, let's go find out where these buses go from.
51:47Oh, no.
51:49Due to planned strides, for safety, you will be shuttled...
51:53Tomorrow.
51:54..tomorrow to Betancourt Airport.
51:56And we'll board the next available flight.
51:58They've missed the last flight departing today
52:01and must now wait until tomorrow to continue their race.
52:05Tomorrow.
52:06Tomorrow.
52:07Wow.
52:10OK.
52:12I guess we're stranded.
52:14Is that everybody?
52:17Wow.
52:19That's crazy.
52:21No, it just makes sense.
52:22Thanks.
52:32Two teams have arrived in Medellin,
52:35home to around two and a half million people.
52:38A model of urban regeneration
52:41and one of Latin America's fastest-growing cities.
52:45Lying at its heart, the fifth checkpoint.
52:53Travel to Estacion Aurora Metro Cable.
52:57Take the cable car and await further instructions.
53:01Estacion Aurora Metro Cable.
53:04Get in the Whipskini.
53:06You need a ride.
53:08Estacion Aurora Metro Cable.
53:10Good afternoon.
53:12Good afternoon.
53:14Oh, this is tense now.
53:16I just hope that we've done enough to catch her.
53:18I know.
53:19The meter is on and there is traffic and I'm stressed.
53:23We're actually moving.
53:24I can taste the checkpoint already.
53:26I need to be there.
53:28OK.
53:30I think this is it.
53:33I don't think there's anything I'm happy about right now.
53:36Absolutely hating this traffic.
53:39We are not moving at all.
53:42I'm nervous.
53:44Feeling quite stressed.
53:45Yeah, I'm stressed.
53:46Because I don't even know where the other teams are.
53:48Can't figure that out.
53:50Oh, it's whizzing.
53:52I don't know where the body is.
53:54I don't know a bit about it.
53:56This is scary.
53:57It is scary.
53:58This is a scary checkpoint now.
54:00But you look great when you're focused like this.
54:04This city is ginormous.
54:10It's huge, isn't it?
54:13All the buildings are matching.
54:15You better like your neighbours here.
54:16Because...
54:17You know what I was about to say.
54:18This is over.
54:19You got how many neighbours you got?
54:20Rah.
54:21That's next level.
54:27Locate.
54:28Museo.
54:29Museo de Antioquia.
54:31Just get off.
54:33E.
54:34Come on.
54:36Oh, my days.
54:37It's mega busy.
54:39There we go.
54:40Museo.
54:41370 metres.
54:43OK.
54:44Let's go.
54:48Yes!
54:49Let it go.
54:50That's it.
54:52Continue through Provenza.
54:54And locate the click-clack.
54:55Click-clack hotel.
55:00Let's get it dark.
55:04Go.
55:05Let's head that way.
55:07Museo de Antioquia.
55:09You OK?
55:10Yeah.
55:12This is the Provenza.
55:13Donde es click-clack hotel?
55:16No.
55:17No?
55:18OK.
55:19Keep going.
55:20Keep going.
55:23Where is it?
55:25Where is this bloody hotel?
55:27This is killing me.
55:29Is that it?
55:30Oh, yeah.
55:31No, no, no, no, no.
55:32Carolina.
55:33Click-clack hotel?
55:35It's up that way.
55:36No, it's free.
55:37OK.
55:38Gracias.
55:39Is that it?
55:40Ah, yeah.
55:41This is it.
55:42Where is the reception?
55:44Oh, my days.
55:45We made it.
55:46Oh, my...
55:47Hello, hello.
55:48Welcome to Medellin.
55:51Please sign in.
55:53Congratulations.
55:54You have successfully reached your fifth checkpoint.
55:57Please sign in, I believe.
55:58We've done well, all right?
55:59Are you all right?
56:00Ready?
56:01We've done really well.
