00:00I woke up in the morning, went to work, and then left from work, stopped in the lay-by because I had a phone call from mum telling me to hurry up because we had McDonald's at home.
00:13So I got back on my bike and got just down the road and I don't remember what happened from there on.
00:19So Zach's friend's sister came knocking at the door. I was quite annoyed because I was waiting for him to be coming home and as per normal, he was late and she said, oh, Zach's been in an accident. The air ambulance are on the way.
00:38I was going up the road in Camelford, well just outside of Camelford, and a van cut across in front of me and I hit the van.
00:48The police did say to me, they supported me and got me up and everything, and they said, look, just let you know, we don't think he's going to survive, so we will let you go and sit beside him.
00:59Yeah, a broken femur, sprained my pelvis, broke my arm in 17 places, broke both wrists, broke my middle finger, broke my jaw in four places, broke my eye socket,
01:14brain damage, spleen, spleen.
01:21Your vocal cords, you lost your ability to talk for a while, but yeah, without the air ambulance we wouldn't be here now talking to you or anything really.
01:29Or even if we did have the air ambulance, but the blood transfusion wasn't available, he still wouldn't be here.
01:36Lucky, I suppose, because you started doing it three days before.
01:41It's quite amazing to think that that service wasn't available, and yeah, if it wasn't there, he wouldn't be here, as simple as that unfortunately.
01:48You've saved quite a lot of people using it, so it's obviously a good thing that you've got.
01:55And the blood bikes as well, they're all volunteers, which is just incredible, they're all giving their time for nothing and helping saving, being part of everyone's journeys to saving lives.
02:05Well, I was doing murder cross again, but I've stopped that for a minute and now I've moved on to bangers for a bit.
02:14His sister actually asked, saying that she didn't want Christmas because her brother wasn't home.
02:20But yeah, it was very different, you enjoy Christmas, well, we enjoy Christmas more, having to go through all that.
02:26Well, I was spending it with my girlfriend and my newborn now.
02:31Go on new addition?
02:32Yeah, well, she's just turned seven months.
02:37She's called Myla?
02:38Yeah, called Myla, started rolling around and trying to take stuff off me, picking up everything she can.
02:46Well, you don't really think about the air ambulance until you've needed it, but the more people you speak to, the more people you realise how it's affected everybody that you've never speak to.
02:58They know of somebody or they've used it or had it or, yeah, it's quite shocking really to think how much it's actually needed.
