00:11So what's your role in the event today? Is it kind of event sponsor?
00:14We sponsored the event. There was a suggestion that this could take place and some of our team
00:21helped put it together in the background with all the great volunteers.
00:24So why choose this event? What's special about this event?
00:30I think as a society, we've always had people who've done repairs. We've kind of forgotten that.
00:36Extending family, people moving around. So we've actually reconnected those skills with the community
00:42and the guys who are doing it are setting life to materials rather than throwing it away or recycling it.
00:48Actually reusing it, which is the best, best form of waste management.
00:52We don't spend enough time thinking about that.
00:55And today's got hidden benefits so that everyone that turns up here, they're having great discussions,
00:59great communications, which is fantastic.
01:02And how many repairers roughly are here today?
01:06I don't know because I'm told we're in the middle of the event.
01:09In fact, they shut the car park. It's been so successful.
01:10Ah, right. Yeah, yeah.
01:11And the guys have seen this as the busiest one they've ever seen.
01:14It's more than 100 people, I think, so far.
01:16But we've still got another two hours to go, so it's not too many people turn up.
01:21And what are you like yourself at home if something breaks? Does the screwdriver come out the box? Do you have a go?
01:27I'm of the generation who still has a go at that, but not necessarily got the skills to do it.
01:31And I'm kicking myself. I'm sure there's a couple of things in my garage I should have brought along today.
01:35But it's always worth having a go, isn't it?
01:37It is.
01:38It is.
01:39That's the lesson we need to learn.
01:40The worst thing that can happen is it doesn't work.
01:43And you end up recycling it, which is what people do, first of all, sometimes.
01:47So have a go or bring it along to the event list where somebody will help you.
01:50So is this a one-off thing for Veolia?
01:52Or we might possibly see some big mend events here again or elsewhere?
01:56I think we'll have to talk to all the volunteers to see what their feeling is.
01:59But I think we'll be more than happy to explore doing this again.

02:22Cool. Now, you've even bought something to be repaired.

02:26Simon, what have you had to do to the bowl here?
02:29The handle was broken on this side.
02:31Fortunately, it was just in one piece.
02:34I've glued that back on again with a two-part epoxy.
02:38It's in place with a couple of chips on there.
02:40So I'm going to put some filler in the side here, colour-matched filler in there,
02:45and then put a ceramic glaze on the top to make it shiny like the rest of it.
02:50And although it'll look good, I wouldn't recommend taking food inside it and lifting it by the hand.
02:56Yeah, more of an equity thing then.
02:58It's coming with usable notes.
03:01So are you pleased to see it again?

03:11I think it's not just for the fantastic repairs they do, but also the real sense of immunity.

03:18And as well as recycling.
03:21And crate is absolutely an economy.
03:23So I think they're doing a fantastic job all around.
