03:55Bis zum nächsten Mal.
03:57And that's exactly what we did.
04:01With no explanation, we let people form their own opinions.
04:06And I'm pleased to share that at Pebble Beach this year,
04:10there wasn't one person who said that Lexus was boring.
04:14To be innovative, adventurous, original,
04:18to help our customers discover this is what Lexus is born to do.
04:22And with this car, we wanted our customers to discover a new level of sensory immersion.
04:31The vehicle behind me has meant big breakthroughs.
04:34Dramatic proportions, packaging innovation.
04:38Just look at the stands.
04:39The rear view, it's just beautiful.
04:42And it's all under 1,200 millimeters in height.
04:46For any sports car, this is a huge challenge and a huge accomplishment.
04:52And when this car's finally finished, it'll answer Accio's last request,
04:58and that is to completely redefine the sound of an electric sports car.
05:05Now, we designed this car to really speak for itself.
05:09But that's not simply by chance.
05:12Because the car you see here owes its existence to another story.
05:17And that brings me to the second tale of humiliation.
05:22This time, on the racetrack.
05:26Now, I remember Accio telling me that Nervo Ring, 20 years ago,
05:30he had an experience that he couldn't forget.
05:33It wasn't about being overtaken.
05:35It wasn't about not coming first.
05:37Rather, that he could see other manufacturers were prioritizing racing.
05:43They were using the occasion to nurture not only new technology and new products,
05:48but to nurture the people who make them.
05:52Camouflage prototypes of cars never seen before
05:56being put through their paces on the world's most unforgiving track.
06:01As a company, Toyota at that time wasn't even trying to build a car capable of racing the Nervo Ring.
06:11In fact, we didn't even have a sports car on sale.
06:17So Accio, alongside test driver Naruti-san,
06:21not only ended up driving an old Supra,
06:25but doing so under the alias of Morizot,
06:27with his own unknown private racing team, Gazoo Racing.
06:33Every time he yielded to yet another development prototype,
06:39it was as if they were saying,
06:41you guys at Toyota,
06:43there's no way you could ever build a car like this.
06:47Well, that was then.
06:49This is now.
06:57We'll be right back.
07:27We'll be right back.
07:57So what do you think about these?
08:07The GR GT and its race car sibling, the GR GT3,
08:13will be joined by the all-new Lexus LFA concept here
08:17to form the sports car apex for both Lexus and GR.
08:23All from one race-bred platform,
08:27true to GR's promise of pushing the limits for better
08:31and contributing to the entire Toyota group.
08:35And all part of Accio's promise of no more boring cars.
08:41Now, the GT3 category, where the story of these three cars begins,
08:47is all about making cars for people who want to win,
08:52for professionals and also privateer racers.
08:56For everybody, it all starts with speed.
08:59Without speed, there's nothing.
09:03For the GR GT3 race car,
09:054-litre V8 twin-turbo engine,
09:09completely rigid aluminum space frame,
09:12an incredibly low center of gravity,
09:15state-of-the-art aerodynamics,
09:17all the critical elements are in place.
09:22But speed in itself is not everything.
09:25The race is much more than the home straight.
09:29And the real art is how you control that speed.
09:34In a real-life situation,
09:36as our master driver Morizzo likes to say,
09:38it all comes down to Kiwa,
09:42the conversation between driver and car.
09:45The GT3 is engineered to give you confidence in all situations,
09:52to feel reassured that the conversation,
09:56even at the limits,
09:58in the severest of situations,
10:00it's all about the car giving you the feedback that you need
10:04to guide you in making split-second decisions.
10:09Fluent communication,
10:11knowing how the car will respond
10:13so that there are no misunderstandings,
10:16bringing out the best in your abilities
10:19so you can push the car and yourself even further.
10:25The GR GT speaks to both types of driver,
10:29the professional driver and the recreational driver,
10:33whether that's two different people
10:34or you and your alter ego.
10:37Now, an integral part of any conversation with a car is sound.
10:42Not only during acceleration,
10:45but deceleration and braking.
10:46To understand the importance of this,
10:50look no further than 30 minutes' drive from here
10:52to Fuji Speedway
10:54and the transition from the home straight
10:57into the first tight corner.
11:00To brake as late as possible,
11:02deeper, faster,
11:04and power out with confidence,
11:05following your ideal line.
11:07This may be the first time
11:09that we focus not only on the sound
11:12a car makes when you put your foot down,
11:15but the visceral, guttural sound
11:17when you take your foot off.
11:20The conversation you have on an ordinary street
11:23is different.
11:25The GR GT road car
11:26with the same V8 twin turbo,
11:29but with hybrid power,
11:31shares the DNA of its racing counterpart
11:34more than any other car we've ever made.
11:38For this,
11:39the team worked not only at the limits of a car,
11:43but at the limits of the development process.
11:46Production, car test drivers,
11:49working hand-in-hand with racing drivers.
11:52This is a circuit-ready, everyday driver.
11:56Wild on a track day,
11:58easy to drive around town.
12:00Take it for a stint at the track,
12:02stop at a nice restaurant on the way home.
12:04From dynamics all the way down
12:07to minute decisions in seating position,
12:10this is a car designed to cover all the bases.
12:16Now, Arceo loves motorsports.
12:20In a race team, there is no hierarchy.
12:24When it comes down to it,
12:25everyone is in the pits together.
12:27These three cars will work as a team
12:31to bring the emotion of driving
12:33to both veteran racers
12:35and new generation of car lovers.
12:39Whether it's the V8 twin turbo
12:41in the GR GT3,
12:43or the hybrid version in the GR GT,
12:47both running on either conventional fuel
12:49or e-fuel or an electric future in the LFA.
12:55These cars represent a commitment
12:57to keep the joy of driving at the limits
13:01of human capabilities alive for the next generation.
13:05nurturing technology and people
13:09to create a new era of driving euphoria.
13:13Just as Narasissan brought his wisdom
13:15from the Toyota 2000 GT to the LFA
13:20and passed it on to a new generation of test drivers.
13:24Ladies and gentlemen,
13:28over the last 14 years,
13:30not only Lexus and GR,
13:32but all Toyota Group brands
13:34have undergone a transformation.
13:37The emotional side has come back to the company.
13:41Whether that's in terms of driving dynamics,
13:44engineering, production,
13:46or my field of design,
13:48there's been a fundamental change
13:51in the company mindset.
13:52How a car looks,
13:55how it feels,
13:57it's all subjective.
13:59But in the pits,
14:00as one team,
14:02with Akio as master driver,
14:03we have the license
14:05to do what needs to be done
14:07to translate each car's story
14:09into reality.
14:12And even though he's pushing 70,
14:15this year Akio Toyota
14:16went back to where it all began
14:1820 years ago,
14:20driving in the Nürburgring
14:2224 hours.
14:24And I can guarantee one thing.
14:27With these three cars in front of him,
14:29he'll not be able to stay away
14:30for many years to come.
14:34And equally,
14:35there was no way
14:36he could miss the chance
14:38to be here today.
14:40Ladies and gentlemen,
14:42Akio Toyota.
14:4230 years ago,
15:00Narusee-san and I,
15:04just the two of us,
15:05were making cars.
15:07Little by little,
15:09like-minded members
15:11joined the effort.
15:12And finally,
15:12when the LFA was completed,
15:14Narusee-san,
15:15in a big smile
15:16that I've never seen before,
15:18said,
15:19it's the first time
15:21I was able to drive
15:23Nürburgring just looking ahead.
15:28Till then,
15:29we were constantly
15:30being overtaken
15:31by other cars.
15:33And now,
15:33we had a car
15:34to overtake others.
15:36I could feel
15:37how truly happy
15:39he was.
15:41That didn't mean
15:42that our
15:42kuyashisa
15:43or humiliation
15:44went away.
15:47LFA went to
15:48volume production,
15:49but it was a
15:50limited volume production.
15:52We started to win races,
15:54but it was about
15:55becoming first rank
15:56in class.
15:57There was still
15:58many, many cars
15:59that was faster
16:00than us.
16:01I could hear
16:02people saying,
16:03no way that you guys
16:04at Toyota could build
16:05a car like this.
16:08I will never forget
16:09that feeling
16:10of humiliation.
16:14And that pain
16:15is definitely
16:16the force
16:18that drives me
16:19even now.
16:23And one day,
16:2415 years ago,
16:26suddenly,
16:27I succeeded
16:28the role
16:28of master driver.
16:32Narusee-san
16:32left me
16:33with the secrets
16:34sauce
16:35for making cars.
16:38The sauce
16:38we made
16:39from our pain
16:40of humiliation.
16:42There was another
16:43thing that he left me,
16:46which were
16:46a few fellow
16:47colleagues
16:48who shared
16:49that agony.
16:52We used
16:54that pain
16:54and frustration
16:55as our driving force
16:57and continued
16:58our focus
16:58on simply
16:59making ever better
17:00cars.
17:01the GR86,
17:04GR Supra,
17:07GR Yaris,
17:09GR Corolla,
17:11the hydrogen engine,
17:14Super TyQ,
17:16Nürburgring,
17:18and now
17:19these cars.
17:23At Toyota Today,
17:24I now
17:26have so many
17:27like-minded
17:28fellow colleagues
17:29who are making
17:30cars with a
17:31shared conviction.
17:33To these fellow
17:37colleagues,
17:37I want to
17:38entrust
17:38our car-making
17:40endeavor
17:40and I want
17:41to work together
17:41with these fellows
17:42to make cars
17:43so that our
17:43secret sauce
17:44can be passed on
17:46to the future
17:47generations.
17:51And I hope
17:52you can continue
17:52to count on us
17:53to that we will
17:55keep you excited.
18:03My life
18:05has been
18:07a continuation
18:08of battles
18:09and the role
18:13that I found
18:14through those
18:15battles
18:15is to be
18:17the last
18:20person
18:21to protect
18:22the others.
18:24Not my role
18:25as president
18:25or chairman
18:26but to make sure
18:29that my fellow
18:30colleagues
18:30can evacuate
18:31to a safe place
18:32so that they
18:33will be able
18:34to hone their
18:35skills
18:35and be able
18:36to fight
18:36back
18:37even stronger.
18:39I'm the one
18:40who will
18:40protect them
18:41so make sure
18:42that they will
18:43be able
18:43to have that
18:44environment.
18:45Morizou will
18:46still continue
18:47and stay up
18:48and running
18:49until I fall down.
18:51Thank you so
18:51much for coming
