00:00morning good morning um you know driving in i thought i would have heard the little booker t
00:04and the mg since steve cropper passed away yes uh i guarantee you shime has no idea
00:10who booker t and the mg i know who booker t the wrestler was
00:14can you play some of his tunes i can probably find his walkout music uh you probably would
00:21know green onions oh everybody knows green onions but i always take them off my plate
00:28oh i definitely know green onions legendary guitarist all right i mean played with the
00:32blues brothers he was around for a long time yeah and they backed out they were like the
00:37booker t and the mg's was the uh like the backup band for otis redding and wilson pickett and some
00:44wow i'm uh bringing the the music knowledge with his this morning judd sarat i love it
00:49i absolutely love it so this team we were talking the other day um needs to stop spotting their
00:57opponents a goal or two in the first period of these hockey games would you agree with that
01:02i would agree i think they just need to get off to some better starts greg you know i was thinking
01:06about it the other day so you know everybody we we hear about it all the time you know you want to
01:10play a 60 minute game but how a team plays in the national hockey league in that first period and yes
01:16you'd like to have a lead but it really sets sets the tone for the rest of the game and the
01:20bruins certainly did not get off to the start that they wanted to in detroit you know and in the big
01:24picture especially with the injuries that they have and they've got four defensemen that are out
01:28of the lineup they have to play a certain way in order to be successful if they stray from that
01:33they're going to have some problems we saw that the other night in detroit and they're not built
01:37especially with the injuries to outscore some of their problems when you look at this team and you
01:43talk about some of those injuries especially on the defensive side it seems like that a lot of goals
01:49that they give up is be comes from right in front of the goalie right in the crease like so
01:54either they're not moving guys out of there not bodying guys what's the issue with them defensively
02:01and a lot of those goals that happen right in front of the goalies well i think uh some of the issues we
02:05saw the other night it was puck management uh you can't have turnovers in in certain spots or even the
02:10first goal uh james van reamsdyke gets behind andrew peak that was one of the things that the coaches
02:15talked about in their pre-scout that detroit as soon as they get the puck they like to fly a guy out of the
02:19zone they were able to spring james van reamsdyke and wiggy i don't know if you're reading the
02:23analytics but if if you look overall he's not no well you've been able to pick it up because
02:30basically the bruins have allowed more high danger chances than any team in the national hockey league
02:35but with the goaltending that they've gotten and i understand jeremy swamin was not at the level that
02:40we had seen him uh throughout november with the goaltending that they have gotten all season long
02:45from swamin and corpus allo they're one of the best teams at denying some of those high danger
02:50chances but they've got to cut down on that amount and i think part of that at least the issue the
02:56other night was about puck management we are shy i'm uh talking this morning about and courtney
03:02during trending about david poster knock and probably probably not going to see him for the tonight or
03:08the next two here like what how long is that what what are you hearing it's a total unknown i think
03:14the only news that we got the other day greg was that marco stern said that poster knock was not
03:19slated to be on the ice uh so that basically took him out uh of tonight's game against the blues and
03:24then saturday you've got the devils and then the bruins are heading on the road for a week they're
03:28going to play three teams from the central division my guess is that the bruins if he doesn't go on the
03:35trip and hopefully he does that he skates here in brighton while the team is on the road so you have
03:39him ready when they come back because you've got a couple big divisional games yes you'll
03:43face vancouver but you've got ottawa on a back-to-back and then montreal just before christmas
03:49uh before you close it out what would uh pasta being out and obviously you're getting a lot of
03:54offensive production from uh geeky who would you like to see offensively step up and contribute more
04:00love to see a little bit more from elias linholm uh i think he's he's actually gotten off to a
04:04decent start then he got hurt uh but anytime you're out for a long period of time it's going to take a
04:09little time to to start to ramp up his game um you know but this was a guy especially on the
04:15power play and the power play has been such a significant piece for the bruins this season
04:18uh i haven't checked the numbers this morning but they're somewhere in the top five or six in the
04:23national hockey league and he's a big reason for that the way he's played in the bumper position
04:28uh either as a guy who has set up other players like morgan geeky or david posternach when he's been
04:33healthy or scored himself he scored all four of his goals on the man advantage this year uh judd
04:39wiggy mentioned morgan geeky is this do you feel like this is just a hot streak for morgan geeky or
04:44is he really developing into a legitimate top kind of goal scorer i mean he's been keeping pace with
04:49nathan mckinnon which seems insane to keep up for over 82 games well it's funny you say that because uh
04:55when nathan mckinnon's name was brought up you know to morgan geeky he said you know it is a little bit
04:59strange to hear my name along with his in the same conversation um you know it's hard to say across
05:06i mean we're almost at the 30th game of the season and he's got 20 goals to this point that's a long
05:12hot streak he's been pretty consistent all season long uh i think part of the issue for him and he's
05:18talked about it is when he shot the puck those pucks have gone in but he only averages about two and
05:24a half shots per game so can he put himself in a position and i understand it's a little bit harder
05:29because the bruins are still missing uh a couple of guys in their top six how can you get some of
05:34those opportunities so you can give him more chances to shoot the puck because that release that
05:39shot david posternach said he's got the best shot on the team by far give him some more of those
05:44opportunities uh jim jim montgomery uh back in town i think for the first time since he left tonight it is
05:50what um marco stern i i what do you how do you grade him and i i feel like he has been better than
05:59i expect or at least the team has done better than i expected under him great that's been an a
06:03um you know and you can hear it from the opponents uh having a chance to listen to some of the coaches
06:07from the detroit red wings the other night i think one of the things that really stood out for them
06:11was how hard the bruins are playing for a guy like marco stern uh the system uh that he's tried
06:17to employ and how often you know and i understand it didn't work out uh for the bruins on saturday
06:22night but he's getting the bruins consistently as much as possible to play the same way and
06:29that's garnered a lot of respect from the opponents around the league he's not afraid to call guys out
06:33and no and i and and and i like that and i think they need that i i think and and players want that
06:38wiggie i don't know if it was the same when you were playing in the nfl i i think that's been
06:42refreshing it's been his blunt honesty his communication but also he's got a lot of charisma
06:47he's got a lot of personality guys like playing for him but i think they've also appreciated the
06:53message and how he's tried to deliver it to him yeah that's the most important thing is honesty
06:57from your coach john i would just on on montgomery so he obviously had the greatest regular season in
07:03the history of the league in terms of points and then in that off season with one year left to go
07:08in his deal he entered the year as a lame duck was this was stuff percolating behind the scenes as
07:14it pertains to sweeney and montgomery because it was shocking how fast he left he was fired and then
07:19he was in st louis like within 24 hours how what was your take on how that ended and why it did like
07:25that well i'm trying to trace back the timeline so his first season he comes in he leads the bruins to
07:29the best regular season record of all time they lose in the first round in seven games against the
07:35florida panthers after the team had a 3-1 lead including a lead late in game seven uh at td garden
07:41um then the second season i think after the retirements of patrice bergeron david creche i
07:47think the bruins surprised a lot of teams and made the playoffs i think a lot of people were waiting
07:51okay finally the window is closed and the bruins are not going to make the playoffs and they did
07:55um the first round series if you remember was seven games against toronto and i believe the narrative
08:01was whichever team didn't win that game that coach was going to be gone and sheldon keith found himself
08:07in new jersey so then the next season and keep in mind that my understanding is that donnie sweeney
08:13and the bruins had offered jim montgomery a contract extension the bruins did not have a good training
08:19camp there were a variety of reasons for that you had the swayman holdout uh brad marcian was coming
08:24off three different surgeries and i remember at the time that the bruins made the coaching change
08:29uh the gm had mentioned that we probably have 10 different guys who are off their game you were also
08:35trying to uh bring in uh elias linholm and nikita zadorov how would they mix into the group the
08:41bruins started eight nine and three and i i just think at that point uh because they couldn't get
08:46the contract done the start that they had gotten off to the training camp that they had that they
08:50decided to part ways when you look at the this team it's win one lose one win one lose one in these
08:56past few games what's your biggest takeaway from like this reach recent stretch of games with this team
09:01recent stretch of games uh that's a really good question you know i i think it's trying to be
09:08mindful of the system that they need to play all the time wiggy uh in order to be successful
09:14um even when they're healthy and i think this was one of the things that marco stern had stressed
09:18that even when they were healthy the bruins still have to play a certain way and it needs to be tight
09:25checking it needs to be defensive oriented it needs to have good puck management it needs to be ready
09:30to start on time in the first period and if you stray from that then it makes it a little bit harder
09:35uh on the bruins and i think that we've seen them here over this last 10 game segment where they've
09:41kind of cooled off a little bit maybe some of the injuries have taken hold that they've gotten away
09:45from that it's hard they get a bit of an injury excuse like i but every team has it you know it's not
09:53an excuse it might be understandable and they have to be able to find a way so i was looking at it
09:57tonight so they're they're going to call up a defenseman here from providence this will be the
10:0110th defenseman 10th different defenseman that they're going to address this season in the national
10:05hockey league and across a regular season you might see a team in 82 games use 10 different guys
10:12they haven't even reached the 30th game and they're using the 10th different guy on the blue line so
10:17that's a little bit of a change um and it's taken away from their ability that they have to defend
10:23more often because they're having a hard time exiting or they're having a hard time clearing
10:28pucks out or they're having a hard time playing in the system but those are still things that you
10:34have to be able to compensate for it's not easy it's not an excuse they've got to find a way
10:39and charlie mcavoy is back on the ice he's skating but which is amazing to me that was
10:46i mean in person uh but watching it like slow-mo wise it was oh awful i only saw that afterward um
10:55we did not see that and we did not run that on uh on the broadcast when when i saw that puck hit him
11:01in montreal so i think it's a really good sign that he has started to skate but i think when it comes to
11:06timelines for injuries and you brought up david poster knock earlier most coaches will tell you
11:11once that player joins practice then you can start to see when a timeline comes and speaking
11:17of injuries and wiggy this is where i really need your help so i'm doing some research on the blues
11:21they've got a guy out of the lineup um he is week to week after experiencing what the club calls
11:27quote scalding burns on his legs so i'm wondering what kind of crazy injuries you heard of um when you
11:34were playing in the nfl because that one was new to me and there are a few injuries like that
11:38around the nhl this year wow scalding burns on their legs i think there was some of that on a
11:43on a cruise ship yeah someone threw a scalding hot cup of coffee on you he was never injured in a
11:49game blocking no no no never that i got away from the blocking but there was an nfl player for the
11:55dallas cowboys it might have been um uh uh digs's brother the db shaman travion digs he hurt himself
12:04what did he do slip and fall in his house or he was trying to put a lot of bed oh oh no or the
12:10ceiling fell on him really yes i think it was like the ceiling fell on stephan cardi b above him i
12:17don't know like in this like so like there's been you know you're obviously scalding like when i think
12:22of scalding water uh or hot water i think of like kramer trying to sneak the hot tea into the movie
12:27i thought you were gonna say you think of the mcdonald's lady who won whatever amount of money that was
12:32millions of dollars for the hot coffee that was oh yeah yeah yeah no but the ceiling fell on big so
12:38it's like what are you doing with hot coffee on your lap i guess well the worst one is paxton
12:43crawford in spring training with the red sox when he rolled over on broken glass because there was
12:48another um yeah a friend in the room the random broken glass in the uh in the area no we're gonna
12:53see jack hughes uh actually the you know the devils are coming in the sound they're missing one of their
12:57best players jack hughes he got hurt uh out at a restaurant with a steakhouse with some glass i
13:02don't know what i don't know how he got hurt at two loister in uh in florida who's one really good
13:08player won a couple of stanley cups with the panthers uh out injured because of a barbecue
13:13incident yes the barbecue incident like what which oh this is like jason pierre paul with the fireworks
13:18oh yeah he tried to light the propane with a lighter probably who was that who was that idiot
13:24radio guy that hurt himself with the puppy gate i don't know who that was almost died all right chud
