"It's a middle chapter, where we really have to challenge the characters. It is going to go to some intense places, but it was really important for me that it still felt like a 'Star Wars' movie. And that means it feels fun."
00:00It's the middle chapter, it's where we have to really challenge the character, so it is going to go to some intense places, but it was really important for me that it still felt like a Star Wars movie, and that means it feels fun.
00:14And I think, I hope fans are going to be pleasantly surprised by how fun and funny this movie is. I really try to keep the tone in that place where it can go back and forth nimbly between getting heavy and being just a blast.
00:30I've seen previous interviews with Mr. Kushner where he said that he felt a lot of weight on his shoulders with that middle film after New Hope was so huge. Did you have somewhat of that same concern or feel that same weight on your shoulders for the second film?
00:43Oh, absolutely. It was terrifying. And add that in that I had been a Star Wars fan since I was four years old, so I had like 40 years of just the weight of, not my expectations even, but knowing the fan expectations out there.
00:56But once I actually got into the process and started working on it, it's funny how quickly that pressure goes away. It's just, you're working on a movie, and you've got your head down just trying to make it the best you can, and you're working with incredible folks, and it just turns into a process like any other, you know?
01:11Man-
01:17Why?
01:20I need more attention to others and I know.
01:22He turned into a signal, and it's just another process of looking at this that made me know that the conference will be up with your sword and that work may not fall off then.
