00:00Emmy- and Tony-winning actress Diana Rigg, who vaulted to international fame in the 1960s in the TV series The Avengers and then gained a new following decades later on Game of Thrones, has died. She was 82. Rigg was diagnosed with cancer in March. According to her daughter, actress Rachel Sterling, she spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter, and a deep pride in her profession. I will miss her beyond words.
00:25The British star became an icon in England and the U.S. while playing Emma Peele on The Avengers, a show which centered on partners working for a secret British intelligence agency. She earned two Emmy nominations for her performance.
00:36Rigg landed her first U.S. movie role in the comedy The Assassination Bureau and turned heads as the charming wife of James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1969.

01:01Among her many other notable projects, Rigg was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 1971's The Hospital.
01:09She won a Tony Award in 1994 for playing the title role in Madea, and she was nominated three other times in 1971, 1975, and 2018.
01:18In 1997, she received her Emmy for portraying head housekeeper Mrs. Danvers in a PBS adaptation of Rebecca.
01:25And in 2013, Rigg joined HBO's Game of Thrones as the cunning Lady Olenna, a.k.a. the Queen of Thorns, earning four Emmy nominations for her work on the show.

01:43Additionally, Rigg was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her contributions to film and theater in 1994.
