00:00Macy Williams is opening up about how growing up playing Arya Stark on HBO's Game of Thrones
00:05conflicted with her womanhood. In an interview with British GQ published Tuesday, the now 24-year-old
00:11actress recalled growing up on television and experiencing coming-of-age moments on set,
00:17such as being handed a bra in the costume department for the first time, and how that
00:21was somewhat in misalignment with the tomboyish and athletic character that audiences had become
00:26so familiar with. I think that when I started becoming a woman, I resented Arya because I
00:31couldn't express who I was becoming, and then I also resented my body because it wasn't aligned
00:35with the piece of me that the world celebrated. During her tenure on the series, Williams was
00:40nominated for two Emmys, while the show picked up numerous accolades. Asked what she misses about
00:45the show, Williams clarified that although she loved her time on the fantasy series,
00:49she does not wish to explicitly miss that period of her young life. I look at it so fondly,
00:54and I look at it with such pride. But why would I want to make myself feel sad about the greatest
00:59thing that ever happened to me? Asked whether she would play the character again on screen,
01:03she said, I'm not saying it would never happen. It has to be the right time with the right people.
