00:00How would you describe the collaboration process between you and Abel in order to get this film off the ground?
00:05Yeah, smooth and organic and beautiful.
00:08The smoothest process that I've ever had getting a film made.
00:13Like basically, we didn't know each other.
00:15We met in October.
00:17He had an idea for a movie.
00:18I dug the idea.
00:20I got really like the most inspired I had been since writing my movie prior.
00:25There was like several years prior to that.
00:27So October, November we have an outline, December we have a script, February we're shooting a movie.
00:33Like that never happens.
00:35And this is coming after like two years of like trying to develop stuff and just not getting a green light.
00:40So for me, the whole thing felt, I'm like an energy guy.
00:44Like I believe in kismet and being connected to someone.
00:47And so it just felt organic and kismet and connected and really smooth and beautiful.
00:52One of the best collaborations of my life.
00:53For sure.
00:54And of course he's this, you know, big persona.
00:56He's so creative.
00:57But what's something new that you learned about him that you didn't know before by working with him so closely?
01:02I mean, the most obvious to me is just the kind of person he is.
01:06Like I think, you know, I went into our first meeting not thinking it would lead to anything.
01:12Having no clue if I'd even connect to the guy.
01:14Like thinking of this persona of the weekend.
01:16But once I met him, he's like a sweet boy from Toronto.
01:19He's like sweet and polite and a great human being and I love him.
01:23So there's all of that.
01:25And then eventually like the proof is in the pudding.
01:27So like it's one thing to have one meeting and feel that way.
01:30But then to go through the process of like two years of making a movie together.
01:34And him like emboldening me with any risks, anything and having my back with every phase of this movie.
01:42It was just truly, truly a beautiful, beautiful experience.
01:46Yeah.
01:46And I know Jenna also said this is unlike anything that she had ever tackled before.
01:51So what were those and if there were any film influences that you turned to in order to bring this to life?
01:57Yeah.
01:57So at the beginning, it was just an idea.
02:00And we were both inspired and bouncing back and forth.
02:03And then an outline formed.
02:04And then we started kicking around like, oh, it's a little bit of persona.
02:07It's a little bit of Raging Bull.
02:08I see a little bit of Purple Rain in the wall.
02:11I see a little bit of Jacob's Ladder.
02:12I see a little bit of Perfect Blue.
02:13The list goes on and on.
02:15A little bit of addition, you know.
02:16But it was kind of all of those movies.
02:19But no one certain dominant thing.
02:22What was exciting to us is that it felt like we were doing something different and new.
02:26That to grasp, to like say what it is, you'd have to like pull on all these different influences.
02:32And be like it's kind of like a combination of these different things.
02:35And that was really exciting to me because my favorite kind of movies are movies I watch them.
02:39And I'm like, whoa, I haven't quite seen anything like that before, you know.
02:42And what would you say is your favorite weekend song off this album?
02:47Off this album?
02:49I love the album.
02:51I love so many.
02:52I probably still go, I go without a warning.
02:55Without a warning.
02:55Because I have a, I think it's a phenomenal song.
02:58And I have a personal attachment to it.
02:59And I, you know, I got to hear its first iteration with no lyrics, no Able singing.
03:03Just a beat that his cousin made.
03:05And yeah, I love that song.
