In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, peace be with you.
00:19
Today we are celebrating the feast of St. Francis Xavier,
00:23
that great missionary who went throughout Southeast Asia and South Asia
00:28
and Far East preaching the gospel.
00:32
So we hear our own call to follow Jesus in our own vocation
00:37
as we recognize our sins and recognize the compassion, the mercy and the love of God.
00:43
You forgive our sins, Lord, have mercy.
00:47
You call us away from confusion into love, Christ, have mercy.
00:51
And your love is bigger than anything, Lord, have mercy.
00:55
May Almighty God have mercy on us.
00:57
Forgive us our sins and lead us into healing and life everlasting.
01:03
Let us pray.
01:05
O God, who through the preaching of St. Francis Xavier won many peoples to yourself,
01:10
grant that the hearts of the faithful may burn more the same zeal for the faith
01:15
and that Holy Church may everywhere rejoice in abundance of offspring.
01:20
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
01:22
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
01:28
Let's listen now to the word of God.
01:30
A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.
01:39
I do not boast of preaching the gospel, since it is a duty which has been laid on me.
01:49
I should be punished if I did not preach it.
01:53
If I had chosen this work myself, I might have been paid for it.
02:00
But as I have not, it is a responsibility which has been put into my hands.
02:08
Do you know what my reward is?
02:11
It is this, in my preaching, to be able to offer the good news free and not insist on the rights which the gospel gives me.
02:27
So, though I am not a slave of any man, I have made myself the slave of everyone so as to win as many as I could.
02:38
For the weak, I made myself weak.
02:43
I made myself all things to all men in order to save some at any cost.
02:50
And I still do this for the sake of the gospel, to have a share in its blessings.
03:00
This is the word of the Lord.
03:02
Thanks be to God.
03:03
Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
03:08
Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
03:12
Oh, praise the Lord, O your nations.
03:15
Acclaim him, O your peoples.
03:17
Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
03:21
Strong is his love for us.
03:24
He is faithful forever.
03:26
Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
03:28
Alleluia, Alleluia.
03:33
Go and teach all people my gospel.
03:36
I am with you always until the end of the world.
03:39
Alleluia.
03:40
The Lord be with you.
03:45
And with you.
03:46
A reading from the holy gospel according to Mark.
03:49
Glory to you, O Lord.
03:52
Jesus showed himself to the eleven and he said to them,
03:56
Go out to the whole world.
03:59
Proclaim the good news to all creation.
04:02
He who believes and is baptized will be saved.
04:05
He who does not believe will be condemned.
04:07
These are the signs that will be associated with believers.
04:13
In my name they will cast out devils.
04:16
They will have the gift of tongues.
04:19
They will pick up snakes in their hands
04:21
and be unharmed should they bring deadly poison.
04:25
They will lay their hands on the sick who will recover.
04:30
And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them,
04:35
was taken up to heaven.
04:36
There at the right hand of God, he took his place.
04:41
While they, going out, preached everywhere.
04:45
The Lord working with them
04:46
and confirming the world by the signs that accompanied it.
04:51
The gospel of the Lord.
04:57
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
05:01
St. Francis Xavier met St. Ignatius in Paris
05:05
where they were studying theology together.
05:08
And Ignatius saw in him what Francis Xavier had not seen in himself.
05:13
And he kept inviting him to reflect on his life.
05:17
To challenge his thoughts.
05:21
And to cut this story short, in the end,
05:23
he was able to give his whole life to Jesus.
05:27
He was asking questions like this.
05:29
What do you want to do in life?
05:31
Oh, I want to become a lawyer.
05:33
And after that, I become a famous lawyer.
05:35
And after that, bring honor to my family.
05:38
And after that, of course, I will die eventually.
05:41
So he kept on challenging him as to his value system.
05:45
And eventually he became the great missionary that we know.
05:48
Went right throughout, into Japan,
05:51
into the Molokkas, into India,
05:55
and died on the way to China,
05:57
doing amazing work, baptizing untold thousands.
06:01
Well, we are all called in our own vocation, of course,
06:04
to proclaim the gospel and to make disciples.
06:06
All of us in our own different ways.
06:09
We are called to be disciples
06:11
and to help build disciples.
06:13
In a fractured world,
06:15
the world of ours fractured by sin and division,
06:19
we are called to be instruments of peace and healing
06:21
with the good news of Jesus risen.
06:25
And that is not easy.
06:26
That's why we need the grace of God.
06:39
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation.
06:49
For to your goodness we have this bread to offer.
06:52
Which earth has given human hands have made,
06:54
it will become for us the bread of life.
06:57
Blessed be God, for forever.
06:58
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation.
07:19
For to your goodness we have this wine to offer.
07:22
Fruit of divine work of human hands.
07:24
It will become a spiritual drink.
07:27
Blessed be God, for forever.
07:41
Let us pray, brothers and sisters,
07:43
that my sacrifice and yours
07:44
may be acceptable to God, our almighty Father.
07:48
May the Lord accept this sacrifice at our hands.
07:51
For the praise and glory of God's name,
07:53
for our good and the good of God's holy church.
07:57
Receive, O Lord, these offerings we bring you
07:59
in commemoration of St. Francis Xavier,
08:02
and grant that as he journeyed to distant lands,
08:05
out of longing for the salvation of souls,
08:08
so we too, bearing effective witness to the gospel,
08:12
may with our brothers and sisters,
08:14
eagerly hasten towards him.
08:16
Through Christ our Lord.
08:18
Amen.
08:18
The Lord be with you.
08:22
And with your spirit.
08:23
Lift up your hearts.
08:25
Amen.
08:26
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
08:30
It is right and just.
08:32
Amen.
08:32
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
08:48
always and everywhere, to give you thanks,
08:50
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
08:53
For you are praised in the company of your saints,
08:57
and in crowning their merits, you crown your own gifts.
09:01
By their way of life, you offer us an example.
09:04
By communion with them, you give us companionship.
09:07
By their intercession, true support.
09:09
So that, encouraged by so great a cloud of witnesses,
09:12
we may run as victors in the race before us,
09:16
and with them, the imperishable crown of glory,
09:20
through Christ our Lord.
09:21
And so, with angels and archangels,
09:24
we thronged the great multitude of saints.
09:26
We sing the hymn of your praise,
09:28
as without end we acclaim.
09:30
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts,
09:34
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
09:36
Hosanna in the highest.
09:38
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
09:41
Hosanna in the highest.
09:43
You are indeed holy, O Lord,
09:47
the fount of all holiness.
09:48
Make holy therefore these gifts, we pray,
09:51
by sending down your Spirit upon them
09:53
like the dewfall,
09:54
so they may become for us
09:56
the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:59
At the time he was betrayed
10:00
and then willingly into his passion,
10:03
he took bread,
10:05
and giving thanks, broke it
10:07
and gave it to his disciples,
10:08
saying, take this, all of you,
10:10
and eat of it,
10:11
for this is my body,
10:13
which will be given up for you.
10:20
In a similar way,
10:22
when supper was ended,
10:23
he took the chalice,
10:25
and once more giving thanks,
10:27
he gave it to his disciples,
10:29
saying, take this, all of you,
10:30
and drink from it,
10:32
for this is the chalice of my blood,
10:34
the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
10:37
which will be poured out for you
10:39
and for many,
10:40
for the forgiveness of sins,
10:43
do this in memory of me.
10:45
The mystery of faith.
10:53
when we eat this bread and drink this cup,
10:57
we proclaim your death, O Lord,
11:00
until you come again.
11:01
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
11:07
we offer you, Lord,
11:08
the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
11:12
giving thanks that you've held us worthy
11:14
to be in your presence and minister to you.
11:17
Humbly we pray,
11:19
that partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
11:22
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
11:24
Remember, Lord,
11:26
your church spread throughout the world
11:28
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
11:31
together with Leo,
11:33
our Pope,
11:33
me,
11:33
your unworthy servant,
11:35
and all the clergy.
11:37
Remember also our brothers and sisters
11:39
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
11:42
and all who have died in your mercy.
11:46
Welcome them into the light of your face.
11:50
Have mercy on us all,
11:51
we pray,
11:52
that with the blessed Virgin Mary,
11:54
Mother of God,
11:56
blessed Joseph,
11:56
her spouse,
11:58
with the blessed apostles,
12:00
St. Francis Xavier,
12:02
and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
12:05
we may,
12:06
through your grace,
12:07
merit to be coerced to eternal life,
12:09
and may praise and glorify you,
12:12
through your Son,
12:13
Jesus Christ.
12:16
Through him and with him and in him,
12:19
O God,
12:19
Almighty Father,
12:20
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
12:22
all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
12:26
Amen.
12:28
At the Savior's command,
12:29
and formed by divine teaching,
12:31
we dare to say,
12:33
Our Father,
12:34
who art in heaven,
12:35
hallowed be thy name,
12:37
thy kingdom come,
12:38
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
12:42
Give us this day our daily bread,
12:45
and forgive us our trespasses,
12:47
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
12:51
And lead us not into temptation,
12:53
but deliver us from evil.
12:55
Deliver us, Lord, we pray,
12:56
from every evil.
12:58
Graciously grant peace in our days,
13:00
that by the help of your mercy,
13:02
we may be always free from sin,
13:04
and safe from all distress,
13:06
as we await the blessed hope,
13:08
and the coming of our Savior,
13:10
Jesus Christ.
13:11
For the kingdom,
13:12
the power,
13:13
and the glory are yours,
13:15
now and forever.
13:16
Lord Jesus Christ,
13:18
who has said to your apostles,
13:20
Peace I leave you,
13:21
my peace I give you.
13:22
Look not on our sins,
13:23
but on the faith of your church,
13:25
and graciously grant her peace and unity,
13:28
in accordance with your will,
13:30
who live and reign forever and ever.
13:32
Amen.
13:33
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
13:37
Let us offer each other a sign of peace.
13:39
Lamb of God,
13:42
you take away the sins of the world,
13:44
have mercy on us.
13:46
Lamb of God,
13:47
you take away the sins of the world,
13:50
have mercy on us.
13:52
Lamb of God,
13:53
you take away the sins of the world,
13:56
grant us peace.
13:57
Behold the Lamb of God,
14:08
who takes away the sins of the world,
14:11
happy are those who are caught to the supper of the Lamb.
14:14
Lord,
14:14
I am not worthy you should enter under my roof,
14:16
but only say the word,
14:18
and my soul shall be healed.
14:21
My Jesus,
14:22
I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
14:25
I love you above all things,
14:27
and I desire to receive you into my soul.
14:30
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
14:34
comely spiritually into my heart,
14:36
I embrace you as if you were already there,
14:39
and unite myself wholly to you.
14:42
Never permit me to be separated from you.
14:45
Amen.
14:47
May your mysteries, O God,
14:50
kindle in us the fire of charity,
14:51
with which St. Francis Saviour burned for the salvation of souls,
14:57
so that walking ever more worthily in our vocation,
15:01
we may obtain with him the reward you promised,
15:05
to those who labor well in your harvest,
15:08
through Christ our Lord.
15:09
Amen.
15:10
The Lord be with you,
15:12
and may the peace and the blessing of the Father,
15:14
and of the Son,
15:15
and of the Holy Spirit come upon you,
15:17
and remain always with you.
15:18
Let us go and live the gospel.
15:21
Thanks be to God.
15:23
God bless your day.
