Transcript
00:00In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, peace be with you.
00:19Today we are celebrating the feast of St. Francis Xavier,
00:23that great missionary who went throughout Southeast Asia and South Asia
00:28and Far East preaching the gospel.
00:32So we hear our own call to follow Jesus in our own vocation
00:37as we recognize our sins and recognize the compassion, the mercy and the love of God.
00:43You forgive our sins, Lord, have mercy.
00:47You call us away from confusion into love, Christ, have mercy.
00:51And your love is bigger than anything, Lord, have mercy.
00:55May Almighty God have mercy on us.
00:57Forgive us our sins and lead us into healing and life everlasting.
01:03Let us pray.
01:05O God, who through the preaching of St. Francis Xavier won many peoples to yourself,
01:10grant that the hearts of the faithful may burn more the same zeal for the faith
01:15and that Holy Church may everywhere rejoice in abundance of offspring.
01:20Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
01:22who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
01:28Let's listen now to the word of God.
01:30A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.
01:39I do not boast of preaching the gospel, since it is a duty which has been laid on me.
01:49I should be punished if I did not preach it.
01:53If I had chosen this work myself, I might have been paid for it.
02:00But as I have not, it is a responsibility which has been put into my hands.
02:08Do you know what my reward is?
02:11It is this, in my preaching, to be able to offer the good news free and not insist on the rights which the gospel gives me.
02:27So, though I am not a slave of any man, I have made myself the slave of everyone so as to win as many as I could.
02:38For the weak, I made myself weak.
02:43I made myself all things to all men in order to save some at any cost.
02:50And I still do this for the sake of the gospel, to have a share in its blessings.
03:00This is the word of the Lord.
03:02Thanks be to God.
03:03Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
03:08Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
03:12Oh, praise the Lord, O your nations.
03:15Acclaim him, O your peoples.
03:17Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
03:21Strong is his love for us.
03:24He is faithful forever.
03:26Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
03:28Alleluia, Alleluia.
03:33Go and teach all people my gospel.
03:36I am with you always until the end of the world.
03:39Alleluia.
03:40The Lord be with you.
03:45And with you.
03:46A reading from the holy gospel according to Mark.
03:49Glory to you, O Lord.
03:52Jesus showed himself to the eleven and he said to them,
03:56Go out to the whole world.
03:59Proclaim the good news to all creation.
04:02He who believes and is baptized will be saved.
04:05He who does not believe will be condemned.
04:07These are the signs that will be associated with believers.
04:13In my name they will cast out devils.
04:16They will have the gift of tongues.
04:19They will pick up snakes in their hands
04:21and be unharmed should they bring deadly poison.
04:25They will lay their hands on the sick who will recover.
04:30And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them,
04:35was taken up to heaven.
04:36There at the right hand of God, he took his place.
04:41While they, going out, preached everywhere.
04:45The Lord working with them
04:46and confirming the world by the signs that accompanied it.
04:51The gospel of the Lord.
04:57Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
05:01St. Francis Xavier met St. Ignatius in Paris
05:05where they were studying theology together.
05:08And Ignatius saw in him what Francis Xavier had not seen in himself.
05:13And he kept inviting him to reflect on his life.
05:17To challenge his thoughts.
05:21And to cut this story short, in the end,
05:23he was able to give his whole life to Jesus.
05:27He was asking questions like this.
05:29What do you want to do in life?
05:31Oh, I want to become a lawyer.
05:33And after that, I become a famous lawyer.
05:35And after that, bring honor to my family.
05:38And after that, of course, I will die eventually.
05:41So he kept on challenging him as to his value system.
05:45And eventually he became the great missionary that we know.
05:48Went right throughout, into Japan,
05:51into the Molokkas, into India,
05:55and died on the way to China,
05:57doing amazing work, baptizing untold thousands.
06:01Well, we are all called in our own vocation, of course,
06:04to proclaim the gospel and to make disciples.
06:06All of us in our own different ways.
06:09We are called to be disciples
06:11and to help build disciples.
06:13In a fractured world,
06:15the world of ours fractured by sin and division,
06:19we are called to be instruments of peace and healing
06:21with the good news of Jesus risen.
06:25And that is not easy.
06:26That's why we need the grace of God.
06:39Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation.
06:49For to your goodness we have this bread to offer.
06:52Which earth has given human hands have made,
06:54it will become for us the bread of life.
06:57Blessed be God, for forever.
06:58Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation.
07:19For to your goodness we have this wine to offer.
07:22Fruit of divine work of human hands.
07:24It will become a spiritual drink.
07:27Blessed be God, for forever.
07:41Let us pray, brothers and sisters,
07:43that my sacrifice and yours
07:44may be acceptable to God, our almighty Father.
07:48May the Lord accept this sacrifice at our hands.
07:51For the praise and glory of God's name,
07:53for our good and the good of God's holy church.
07:57Receive, O Lord, these offerings we bring you
07:59in commemoration of St. Francis Xavier,
08:02and grant that as he journeyed to distant lands,
08:05out of longing for the salvation of souls,
08:08so we too, bearing effective witness to the gospel,
08:12may with our brothers and sisters,
08:14eagerly hasten towards him.
08:16Through Christ our Lord.
08:18Amen.
08:18The Lord be with you.
08:22And with your spirit.
08:23Lift up your hearts.
08:25Amen.
08:26Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
08:30It is right and just.
08:32Amen.
08:32It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
08:48always and everywhere, to give you thanks,
08:50Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
08:53For you are praised in the company of your saints,
08:57and in crowning their merits, you crown your own gifts.
09:01By their way of life, you offer us an example.
09:04By communion with them, you give us companionship.
09:07By their intercession, true support.
09:09So that, encouraged by so great a cloud of witnesses,
09:12we may run as victors in the race before us,
09:16and with them, the imperishable crown of glory,
09:20through Christ our Lord.
09:21And so, with angels and archangels,
09:24we thronged the great multitude of saints.
09:26We sing the hymn of your praise,
09:28as without end we acclaim.
09:30Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts,
09:34heaven and earth are full of your glory.
09:36Hosanna in the highest.
09:38Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
09:41Hosanna in the highest.
09:43You are indeed holy, O Lord,
09:47the fount of all holiness.
09:48Make holy therefore these gifts, we pray,
09:51by sending down your Spirit upon them
09:53like the dewfall,
09:54so they may become for us
09:56the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:59At the time he was betrayed
10:00and then willingly into his passion,
10:03he took bread,
10:05and giving thanks, broke it
10:07and gave it to his disciples,
10:08saying, take this, all of you,
10:10and eat of it,
10:11for this is my body,
10:13which will be given up for you.
10:20In a similar way,
10:22when supper was ended,
10:23he took the chalice,
10:25and once more giving thanks,
10:27he gave it to his disciples,
10:29saying, take this, all of you,
10:30and drink from it,
10:32for this is the chalice of my blood,
10:34the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
10:37which will be poured out for you
10:39and for many,
10:40for the forgiveness of sins,
10:43do this in memory of me.
10:45The mystery of faith.
10:53when we eat this bread and drink this cup,
10:57we proclaim your death, O Lord,
11:00until you come again.
11:01Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
11:07we offer you, Lord,
11:08the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
11:12giving thanks that you've held us worthy
11:14to be in your presence and minister to you.
11:17Humbly we pray,
11:19that partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
11:22we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
11:24Remember, Lord,
11:26your church spread throughout the world
11:28and bring her to the fullness of charity,
11:31together with Leo,
11:33our Pope,
11:33me,
11:33your unworthy servant,
11:35and all the clergy.
11:37Remember also our brothers and sisters
11:39who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
11:42and all who have died in your mercy.
11:46Welcome them into the light of your face.
11:50Have mercy on us all,
11:51we pray,
11:52that with the blessed Virgin Mary,
11:54Mother of God,
11:56blessed Joseph,
11:56her spouse,
11:58with the blessed apostles,
12:00St. Francis Xavier,
12:02and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
12:05we may,
12:06through your grace,
12:07merit to be coerced to eternal life,
12:09and may praise and glorify you,
12:12through your Son,
12:13Jesus Christ.
12:16Through him and with him and in him,
12:19O God,
12:19Almighty Father,
12:20in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
12:22all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
12:26Amen.
12:28At the Savior's command,
12:29and formed by divine teaching,
12:31we dare to say,
12:33Our Father,
12:34who art in heaven,
12:35hallowed be thy name,
12:37thy kingdom come,
12:38thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
12:42Give us this day our daily bread,
12:45and forgive us our trespasses,
12:47as we forgive those who trespass against us.
12:51And lead us not into temptation,
12:53but deliver us from evil.
12:55Deliver us, Lord, we pray,
12:56from every evil.
12:58Graciously grant peace in our days,
13:00that by the help of your mercy,
13:02we may be always free from sin,
13:04and safe from all distress,
13:06as we await the blessed hope,
13:08and the coming of our Savior,
13:10Jesus Christ.
13:11For the kingdom,
13:12the power,
13:13and the glory are yours,
13:15now and forever.
13:16Lord Jesus Christ,
13:18who has said to your apostles,
13:20Peace I leave you,
13:21my peace I give you.
13:22Look not on our sins,
13:23but on the faith of your church,
13:25and graciously grant her peace and unity,
13:28in accordance with your will,
13:30who live and reign forever and ever.
13:32Amen.
13:33The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
13:37Let us offer each other a sign of peace.
13:39Lamb of God,
13:42you take away the sins of the world,
13:44have mercy on us.
13:46Lamb of God,
13:47you take away the sins of the world,
13:50have mercy on us.
13:52Lamb of God,
13:53you take away the sins of the world,
13:56grant us peace.
13:57Behold the Lamb of God,
14:08who takes away the sins of the world,
14:11happy are those who are caught to the supper of the Lamb.
14:14Lord,
14:14I am not worthy you should enter under my roof,
14:16but only say the word,
14:18and my soul shall be healed.
14:21My Jesus,
14:22I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
14:25I love you above all things,
14:27and I desire to receive you into my soul.
14:30Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
14:34comely spiritually into my heart,
14:36I embrace you as if you were already there,
14:39and unite myself wholly to you.
14:42Never permit me to be separated from you.
14:45Amen.
14:47May your mysteries, O God,
14:50kindle in us the fire of charity,
14:51with which St. Francis Saviour burned for the salvation of souls,
14:57so that walking ever more worthily in our vocation,
15:01we may obtain with him the reward you promised,
15:05to those who labor well in your harvest,
15:08through Christ our Lord.
15:09Amen.
15:10The Lord be with you,
15:12and may the peace and the blessing of the Father,
15:14and of the Son,

15:17and remain always with you.
15:18Let us go and live the gospel.
15:21Thanks be to God.
15:23God bless your day.
