Transcript
00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
00:18The Lord be with you, and with your spirit.
00:20Dear friends, today we celebrate the memorial of the Feast of St. Jerome,
00:24who was a priest and doctor of the church.
00:26We know him very well for his work of translating the sacred scriptures from their original languages
00:33into Latin Vulgate, which was, I suppose, the vernacular of the time.
00:37We pray through his intercession that you and I, and the rest of the world,
00:41will continue to have greater love for the sacred scriptures.
00:45I also invite you, dear friends, to pause for a few moments now,
00:48and to offer into the hands of God through the intercession of St. Jerome,
00:52your own prayers and intentions.
00:55As usual, dear friends, feel free to put your intentions in the comment section of our Mass
01:07going on right now, and hopefully we too can join you in your prayers.
01:12Dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins,
01:14and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
01:18Lord Jesus, you were lifted up to draw all people to yourself.
01:22Lord, have mercy.
01:25You shouldered the cross to bear our suffering and sinfulness.
01:28Christ, have mercy.
01:30You opened for your people the way from death into life.
01:34Lord, have mercy.
01:37May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
01:40and bring us to everlasting life.
01:43Let us pray.
01:44O God, who gave the priest St. Jerome a living and tender love for sacred scripture,
01:51grant that your people may be ever more fruitfully nourished by your word,
01:56and find in it the fount of life.
01:59Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you,
02:03in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
02:06Amen.
02:08A reading from the second letter of St. Paul to Timothy.
02:13You must keep to what you have been taught and know to be true.
02:17Remember who your teachers were and how, ever since you were a child,
02:22you have known the Holy Scriptures.
02:24From these you can learn the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
02:29All scripture is inspired by God and can profitably be used for teaching,
02:35for refuting error, for guiding people's lives, and teaching them to be holy.
02:41This is how the man who is dedicated to God becomes fully equipped and ready for any good work.
02:48The Word of the Lord.
02:50Thanks be to God.
02:52Lord, teach me your decrees.
02:54Lord, teach me your decrees.
02:57How shall the young remain sinless by obeying your word?
03:01I have sought you with all my heart.
03:03Let me not stray from your commands.
03:06Lord, teach me your decrees.
03:08I treasure your promise in my heart lest I sin against you.
03:12Blessed are you, O Lord.
03:14Teach me your statutes.
03:16Lord, teach me your decrees.
03:19With my tongue I have recounted the decrees of your lips.
03:22I rejoice to do your will,
03:24as though all riches were mine.
03:26Lord, teach me your decrees.
03:30Alleluia, Alleluia.
03:31Open our hearts, O Lord, to listen to the words of your Son.
03:34Alleluia.
03:38The Lord be with you.
03:40A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
03:43Jesus said to the crowds,
03:46The kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea
03:50that brings in a hole of all kinds.
03:53When it is full, the fishermen haul it ashore.
03:57Then sitting down, they collect the good ones in the basket
03:59and throw away those that are no use.
04:03This is how it will be at the end of time.
04:05The angels will appear and separate the wicked from the just
04:09to throw them into the blazing furnace
04:12where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
04:16Have you understood all this?
04:18They said, Yes.
04:20And he said to them,
04:21Well then, every scribe who becomes a disciple of the kingdom of heaven
04:25is like a householder who brings out from his storeroom
04:29things both new and old.
04:31The Gospel of the Lord.
04:34Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
04:53Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
04:56for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you.
04:59Fruit of the earth and work of human hands,
05:01it will become for us the bread of life.
05:20Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
05:22for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you.
05:25Fruit of the vine and work of human hands,
05:27it will become for us our spiritual drink.
05:40Pray, brothers and sisters,
05:41that my sacrifice and yours
05:43may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
05:46Grant us, O Lord, that having meditated on your word,
05:56following the example of St. Jerome,
05:58we may more eagerly draw near
06:00to offer your majesty the sacrifice of salvation
06:03through Christ our Lord.
06:05The Lord be with you.
06:08Lift, and with your spirit lift up your hearts,
06:10we lift them up to the Lord.
06:11Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
06:15It is right and just.
06:17It is truly right and just,
06:18our duty and our salvation,
06:20always and everywhere to give you thanks,
06:23Lord, Holy Father,
06:24almighty and eternal God through Christ our Lord.
06:27For us on the festival of St. Jerome,
06:29you bid your church rejoice.
06:31So too you strengthen her
06:33by the example of his holy life,
06:35teach her by his words of preaching,
06:37and keep her safe in answer to his prayers.
06:41And so with the company of angels and saints,
06:43we sing the hymn of your praise,
06:45as without end we acclaim,
06:47Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of hosts,
06:51heaven and earth are full of your glory.
06:54Hosanna in the highest.
06:56Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
06:58Hosanna in the highest.
07:00You are indeed holy, O Lord,
07:06the fount of all holiness.
07:07Make holy, therefore,
07:08these gifts, we pray,
07:09by sending down your Spirit upon them
07:11like the doofel,
07:13so that they may become for us
07:14the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
07:17At the time he was betrayed
07:19and entered willingly into his passion,
07:21he took bread,
07:22and giving thanks,
07:24broke it,
07:24and gave it to his disciples,
07:26saying,
07:26Take this all of you
07:29and eat of it,
07:31for this is my body
07:33which will be given up for you.
07:56In a similar way,
08:05when supper was ended,
08:06he took the chalice,
08:08and once more giving thanks,
08:09he gave it to his disciples,
08:11saying,
08:11Take this all of you
08:13and drink from it,
08:14for this is the chalice of my blood,
08:16the blood of the new
08:17and eternal covenant,
08:19which will be poured out
08:20for you and for many
08:21for the forgiveness of sins.
08:24Do this in memory of me.
08:26The mystery of faith,
08:48save us,
08:48Savior of the world,
08:50for by your cross and resurrection
08:52you have set us free.
08:54Therefore,
08:55as we celebrate the memorial
08:56of his death and resurrection,
08:58we offer you,
08:59Lord,
08:59the bread of life
09:00and the chalice of salvation,
09:02giving thanks
09:03that you have held us worthy
09:04to be in your presence
09:06and minister to you.
09:07Humbly,
09:08we pray that,
09:09partaking of the body
09:10and blood of Christ,
09:11we may be gathered into one
09:13by the Holy Spirit.
09:14Remember,
09:15Lord,
09:15your church spread throughout the world
09:17and bring her
09:18to the fullness of charity,
09:20together with Leo,
09:21our Pope,
09:21and Charles,
09:22our Bishop,
09:22and all the clergy.
09:24Remember also
09:25our brothers and sisters
09:26who have fallen asleep
09:27in the hope
09:28of the resurrection
09:29and all who have died
09:30in your mercy.
09:32Welcome them
09:32into the light of your face.
09:34Have mercy on us all,
09:36we pray that with
09:37the blessed Virgin Mary,
09:38Mother of God,
09:39with blessed Joseph,
09:40her spouse,
09:41with the blessed apostles
09:42and all the saints
09:43who have pleased you
09:44throughout the ages,
09:46we may merit to be co-heirs
09:47to eternal life
09:48and may praise and glorify you
09:51through your Son,
09:52Jesus Christ.
09:55Through him
09:56and with him
09:57and in him,
09:57O God,
09:58Almighty Father,
09:59in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
10:02all glory and honor
10:03is yours
10:03forever and ever.
10:06Amen.

10:10and formed
10:11by divine teaching,

10:27as we forgive those
10:28who trespass against us
10:30and lead us not
10:31into temptation
10:32but deliver us
10:33from evil.
10:35Deliver us,
