00:00It's been a great year for documentaries at the box office, but that success did not ring
00:04true for Divide & Conquer, the story of Roger Ailes, over the weekend. The film, which explores
00:08the story of the late former Fox News chief who was accused of numerous incidents of sexual
00:12harassment, fizzled in its debut at the specialty box office. Magnolia Films, which required the
00:17U.S. rights to the documentary out of the Toronto International Film Festival, didn't report
00:21Sunday on the film's grosses, but those with access to Comscore say Divide & Conquer earned
00:26a combined $12,431 on Friday and Saturday from 14 theaters, putting its two-day location
00:32average at less than $900. If going by the current 2018 average movie ticket price of $9.14,
00:39fewer than 26 people showed up at either location on those two days.
00:43Hopes for Divide & Conquer were high when it made its premiere in early September at TIFF,
00:47followed by a stop at the New York Film Festival. Magnolia is also the distributor behind the
00:51Ruth Bader Ginsburg documentary RBG, which grossed more than $14 million at the U.S.
00:56box office earlier this year. Divide & Conquer isn't the only film focusing on Ailes.
01:00Filmmaker Jay Roach has lined up an all-star cast, led by Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman and
01:05Shalise Theron for his upcoming narrative feature on the subject matter.
01:08Faring much better at the specialty box office was focused features Mary, Queen of Scots,
01:12a period drama starring Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie as Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth I
01:17respectively. The film turned in the best location average of the weekend with $50,045
01:22from four cinemas. According to Focus Features president of distribution Lisa Bunnell,
01:27Our first-time director Josie Rourke took a fresh take on this incredible drama of these two
01:31queens and made it resonate with audiences in a powerful way, paralleling so much of what is
01:36still going on today for women. Another royal-themed drama, The Favourite, also scored big.
01:41After receiving top Golden Globes nominations and 14 critics' choice nods, the movie earned
01:46$1.4 million from 91 locations in its third weekend for an early total of $3.5 million.
01:52The Fox Searchlight movie stars Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone.
01:56Meanwhile, Neon's Vox Luxe, starring Natalie Portman, posted a screen average of $27,042
02:02from six cinemas in its debut, while LD Entertainment's Ben is back, starring Julia Roberts and
02:07Lucas Hedges, reported a location average of $20,243 from four sites.
02:12Additionally, At Eternity's Gate earned another $310,000 from 172 theaters in its fourth weekend
