00:00
Neil, an impressive 2-0 win against Brackley.
00:03
Back-to-back wins in the league, nine unbeaten in the league as well.
00:06
Must be sort of very pleased after that.
00:08
Yeah, you know, we don't look too far forward, to be fair.
00:12
You know, we were that scarred by how the season started
00:15
that every day has been just trying to gradually be competitive
00:20
in every game and every training session.
00:22
And obviously for us, this was a bit of a test for the staff.
00:26
We look forward to this game because, you know,
00:29
obviously Brackley, what they did to us in the FA Cup.
00:32
And, you know, I didn't think I needed to do a team talk.
00:34
I think the lads sort of knew.
00:36
And it was for us, it was, you know, can we see whether we have come far,
00:40
whether the meeting we had, whether the connectivity we've gained since then
00:44
has come together.
00:45
And I thought right from the first 10 minutes of the game,
00:48
I could see the will to win, the aggression in the running,
00:52
the aggression in the play, the team spirit.
00:54
And, you know, I thought we thoroughly deserved the win.
00:56
So, yeah, did you feel like you sort of owed Brackley one after that
00:59
and say you didn't really need to have that motivation?
01:01
Well, it's not a case of owning one.
01:03
It's a case of earlier in the season, I would have said Brackley were our nemesis.
01:08
Really powerful team, really good at set pieces.
01:11
And they're the sorts of teams that were rolling us over.
01:13
You know, and I think from our point of view, from me as a staff,
01:16
it's like, have we improved enough to cope with that?
01:19
You know, we did it at Tamworth a few weeks back.
01:21
We went there and we stood up to it and we've done it again today.
01:24
So, delighted, delighted both forwards got on the score sheet
01:28
because, you know, if you're going to get a run going together,
01:30
the top end of the pitch needs to be at it.
01:32
Delighted we kept a clean sheet and I thought we managed the game really well.
01:37
So, you've been building this run now, nine unbeaten,
01:40
and it's another good task today, really, isn't it, to keep building on it, really?
01:44
Yeah, that's all we can do and we've got ten days now until our next game.
01:48
So, we'll try and, obviously a tough one away at Carlyle,
01:51
we'll try and get ourselves ready and see if we can keep it going,
01:53
keep the confidence levels.
01:55
We've got a few injuries back.
01:56
So, yeah, it's good.
01:58
It's another clean sheet.
01:59
Two centre forwards have scored.
02:01
You know, if you're on the right of Saturday at five o'clock, that's it.
02:04
But, you know, from our point of view,
02:06
we're just taking each game as it comes, trying to stay competitive.
02:09
Yeah, a lot of sort of good things to tick off there, you know,
02:11
clean sheet, as you say, and save both strikers on the score sheet
02:15
and Oli with the first goals.
02:16
Yeah, isn't that?
02:17
Yeah, good goals.
02:18
I think the thing is, you know, we said at half-time,
02:22
Brackley don't need to do anything special to score, you know,
02:24
and I don't mean that.
02:25
It's not a detriment to them.
02:26
I think they're so good at their set plays that all they need to do
02:30
is get a set play, a goalkeeper's kick, a flick, pin you in,
02:34
and all of a sudden it's one-all and you start panicking.
02:38
So we had to manage that.
02:39
We had to make sure that we kept trying to get the second goal
02:43
and that was the message at half-time.
02:44
You know, play like you're 1-0 down.
02:46
Go and try and get the second.
02:47
And the second goal, obviously, is a big deal
02:50
because it just gives you that deep breath
02:52
to know that you've given yourself a little gap.
02:54
Yeah, the way they play with their strength at set pieces,
02:57
that does mean that 10 men at 1-0,
02:59
they're still always a chance and a threat, aren't they?
03:01
Absolutely.
03:02
And, you know, in both games we played against them,
03:04
they scored from set plays and looked like scoring.
03:06
And, yeah, we had to be on our mettle and we stood up to it.
03:10
So really proud of the boys.
03:12
And Josh, good composure from the spot again.
03:13
He did it Tuesday night in the game and the shootout.
03:15
Did it again today?
03:16
Yeah, he's a good penalty taker.
03:18
So is H.
03:18
They're both very competent penalty takers.
03:20
So I leave it to them to decide who's doing what.
03:23
But, yeah, delighted that both score.
03:26
You've got, you know, centre-forwards.
03:27
You want your centre-forward scoring.
03:28
And they've both scored.
03:30
And then, obviously, Ash and Josh Rassoud come off the bench
03:32
and they bring something different.
03:34
That's a good all-round team performance.
03:36
But Timmy Akinola, pretty impressive in there today.
03:39
To be fair, I thought him and Jamie were excellent from the word go.
03:42
You know, Jamie gets through.
03:44
Timmy obviously catches the eye because of his pace
03:46
and when he dribbles with the ball.
03:48
But Jamie did so much of the nitty-gritty in there.
03:52
He won so many seconds.
03:53
He's a good marker.
03:54
He's six foot two.
03:55
And I thought he was excellent in there as well.
03:58
So, listen, you need everyone to perform right from the goalie
04:00
through to the front two.
04:01
And I thought the attitude right from the first ten minutes
04:03
was exceptional.
04:05
As you say, a bit of a sort of wait now for the Carlisle game.
04:07
Week on Wednesday, 11 days.
04:08
So, obviously, you'll use that time to build up
04:10
and prep for a tough test.
04:11
Yeah, we've got to get the balance right of how often we have them in,
04:15
burning them out and stuff like that.
04:16
But we'll try and build up to the game.
04:18
We always work back from the game.
04:20
So, we'll have a breather, maybe an extra day off
04:23
at the start of this week.
04:24
And then we'll start building to the game.
04:26
Matt Ward didn't make the bench today.
04:28
Obviously, he played Tuesday.
04:29
Just a slide.
04:29
Yeah, he came off with an ankle.
04:31
He rolled his ankle on Tuesday.
04:32
Him and Josh Rasoud had a fitness test, really, yesterday
04:35
to see whether they were fit enough to be in the squad.
04:38
So, it helped make the decision on the team shape.
04:41
And, you know, we didn't have any real wingers that were 100% fit.
04:44
So, you know, we went big.
04:47
We selected a big team, a powerful team,
04:48
to try and cope with them, knowing that we had quality as well.
04:51
And another good crowd today and three points and send them home happy.
04:55
Yeah, that's what it's all about.
04:56
They certainly were happy last week.
04:57
And we've managed to back it up.
04:59
So, we're delighted.
05:00
Okay.
05:00
We'll do it.
05:02
Thank you so much.
