00:00Mindy Kaling is signing on for Legally Blonde 3.
00:14It's been almost 20 years since the first Legally Blonde hit theaters, and we finally
00:18have an update on the highly anticipated third installment.
00:21It's been reported that Mindy Kaling, along with Dan Gore, has signed on to write the
00:24script for the latest installment of the MGM comedy franchise, with Reese Witherspoon reprising
00:29her role as the iconic and fashionable Elle Woods.
00:32It's still unclear, however, which other members of the original cast, which included
00:41Luke Wilson, could return for the third pick.
00:44Witherspoon confirmed back in June of 2018 that a third Legally Blonde movie was in the
00:49works, teasing fans on social media with a video that had Elle Woods written all over it.
00:53Witherspoon will also have a hand in producing the film through her banner, Hello Sunshine
00:57and the company's head of television and film, Laura Neustadter, along with Mark Platt and
01:02Adam Siegel of Platt Productions.
01:04The original Legally Blonde, which follows a hot pink clad law student shaking up the
01:07stuffy world of Harvard Law School, hit theaters back in 2001 and became a surprise box office
01:13hit.
01:15The success of the first film spurred a 2003 sequel, Legally Blonde 2, Red, White and Blonde.
