Here's the full recap of the star-studded night.
Transcript
00:00What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have.
00:09Well guys, we knew it was going to be an unusual Golden Globes this year, and the night did not disappoint.
00:14With the Time's Up initiative setting the tone as early as the red carpet, where almost all of the night's
00:19attendees explained that they chose to wear black to signal the end of inequality in Hollywood,
00:24a theme of inclusion and justice ran throughout all of the night's festivities.
00:28First, host Seth Meyers greeted the quote, ladies and remaining gentlemen in the room.
00:32He gave a blistering opening monologue that took aim at the wave of men who've recently been called out
00:37for sexual harassment in Hollywood, joking that...
00:40For the male nominees in the room tonight, this is the first time in three months it won't be terrifying
00:45to hear your name read out loud.
00:47Then, early winners Rachel Brosnahan and Elizabeth Moss, who won for best actress in a TV comedy
00:53and drama respectively, used their acceptance speeches to call attention to all of the women's
00:58stories that still need to be told.
01:00We were the people who were not in the papers. We lived in the blank white spaces at the edge of print.
01:04It gave us more freedom.
01:06Natalie Portman lit up social media when she called out the best director category for featuring no women.
01:12And here are the all-male nominees.
01:15Twitter was also talking about Tonya Harding, who was seated with the i Tonya cast.
01:20Timothee Chalamet had a big reaction when he noticed she was nearby.
01:24Harding was thanked by Allison Janney, who won best actress in a supporting role for portraying
01:28Harding's mother. But one of my favorite parts of the night was how many winners were thrown off their speech
01:33when they noticed that Oprah was sitting right in front of them.
01:36Carol, hi Oprah. Um, wow.
01:40Ah, celebrities. They really are just like us.
01:43Oprah, of course, was honored with this year's Cecil B. DeMille Award and gave a historic speech fit for,
01:48well, for an Oprah.
01:50So I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon!
01:58Other big winners for TV included freshman contenders The Handmaid's Tale and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,
02:03and HBO's Big Little Lies, which had an undeniably huge night, with wins for three of its actors as well as best miniseries.
02:10On the movie's side, Lady Bird won Best Motion Picture Comedy and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,
02:16scored Best Drama. And finally, I'd say the night's biggest winner was… wait for it…
02:21Women.
02:22Women.
02:23Extraordinarily talented women.
02:24The power of women.
02:25Brilliant and strong women.
