'Hacks' and 'Paradise' star Julianne Nicholson chats with THR at the 2025 Emmys red carpet and describes what it is like being nominated for two shows this year. Plus, she reveals which show she would love to guest star in.
00:00First of all, congratulations on Last Weekend.
00:01Is there anyone you forgot to thank last weekend that you wanted to share?
00:04Yes, I would have actually thanked Karen Sanfilippo and Jason Weinberg, my manager.
00:09But it was so fast.
00:10They told us 30 seconds.
00:11And I just swore to myself I wasn't going to let the music play.
00:15And so I'm afraid some people were lost.
00:19But they know I love them.
00:20And I wrote an Instagram post after saying, I'm also not good at it.
00:24It's too much.
00:25And, you know, Jamie Lee Curtis posted something so nice afterwards about you and about just the sisterhood of that, that the group of nominees.
00:34That was one of the highlights of my night was getting to meet her and tell her that I've been obsessed with her since I saw her in Trading Places, which I think came out in what, like 1981 or something like that.
00:44Literally.
00:44So Fish Called Wanda.
00:46I mean, obviously, the Halloweens, like Freaky Friday, it goes on and on.
00:50Glass Show Girl.
00:52She like took my breath away.
00:53So, yeah, she's amazing inspiration.
00:57So that was exciting.
00:59And Robbie Hoffman, the legend that is Robbie Hoffman.
01:02Amazing.
01:03Tonight is just a different vibe.
01:05Paradise Family.
01:07But does it, coming back as a winner, does it feel different?
01:11It feels different.
01:12It feels a little bit less, it feels like not quite as much as riding on it.
01:17Now it feels a little bit easier.
01:19And it must validate the decision to do something so wild, which is like, I know you've said, like, people probably didn't immediately think, dance mom, Julianne Nicholson.
01:30I think it was great.
01:32It was very smart casting because I think, you know, when people saw me, they had, they could not imagine where this character was going.
01:40And so I think, yeah, that was a blast.
01:42And are you getting, what are the offers since then?
01:45Are there, are there more comedy?
01:47Um, not yet.
01:49Not yet.
01:50But it doesn't always happen right away.
01:51You know, it's a career and you wait and then you hear from people like, oh, it was that, but it might have been five years ago or so.
01:58We'll see.
01:58I'm sure, you know, the recognition of these two nominations in this season has, um, been amazing.
02:06And I say to also amazing at a time in your life when you're, you're, you know, you've been through, you know, your NPR interview was so amazing.
02:17Um, you know, and I just, and I cry, I was in the car and I wanted to cry because I'm sober.
02:22And I just, I just like, I, I feel like anytime anybody turns a corner, opens a new chapter in life and things happen, things happen.
02:30I, I do feel like I do believe in sort of, I don't know, manifesting and like having a certain energy and projecting a certain energy.
02:38Like I, I believe that that, I mean, it's not everything you also, you know, there's work to be done and all of that, but there is something about just, you know, getting back, receiving what you give type of thing.
02:49So what do your agents know to send you right now?
02:52Or is there something you don't want to do?
02:53Or is there something you do want to do?
02:55Like what, what is Jason?
02:56Why?
02:56What did you tell Jason?
02:57Send me more of that, or I'm ready to do that.
02:59Well, I don't know.
03:00What should I tell him?
03:01I don't know.
03:02Like, okay, get my own series.
03:10We'll work on that.
03:11I also want to do another film because I've done TV the last couple of jobs.
03:14So Jenna, my God, you're like, I need another Jenna planet.
03:19Exactly.
03:20And a new version of that.
03:22Yeah.
03:23All right.

03:25And then what show would you want to guest on, looking across these nominees?
03:29The studio, Severance, Adelaide?
03:31Mostly for location, of course, White Lotus.
03:33I mean, we'll start there.
03:35It's a brilliant show also, but I wouldn't mind.
03:39I mean, I don't want eight months in wherever they were.
