00:00What were your first thoughts when you saw this script and saw Maggie's take on the story?
00:04Oh, I loved the script. I thought it was so original, imaginative, wild.
00:11Like, who is this woman? And she's Ida, and now she's Mary Shelley,
00:15and now she's having a romance with Frankenstein, and who is this scientist?
00:21That's who I play, you know, who has a history of reinvigoration.
00:26And then Maggie had all these very serious ideas behind everything,
00:31and very potent, let's say, ideas, theatrical ideas.
00:35There's music. There's incredible dance sequences.
00:40So, no, it's just, it's a big movie. It's beautiful.
00:45But at its heart, it's really a romance. That's how I saw it.
00:49And I was really touched by it.
00:51I've been hearing that a lot, that at the core, it's a love story.
00:54No, it is. It is.
00:55That's beautiful. And what was it like working with Maggie?
00:58Like, what do you think sets her apart as a director?
01:00She was endlessly curious, endlessly asking questions.
01:04And if you had a question for her, if I had a question for her,
01:07she would usually answer it with a question.
01:10But she had really thought about it.
01:13She had really thought about every character in it,
01:15and they have a deep biography, each of them.
01:18I certainly did.
01:20The guy, you know, I have my own love affair from the past,
01:23and he was also a scientist.
01:25And no, she took it all very seriously.
01:28It was beautiful to watch her just have this, you know,
01:33this incredibly large canvas on which to paint her story.
01:40And what do you think or what do you hope people will take away from the film when they watch?
01:44Oh, it's a lot.
01:45I think it's one of those movies, everybody will have something different that they,
01:49you know, some people say it's about rage, but it's not just about rage.
01:52It's also about tenderness and passion and love and finding your true self.
01:59She's on a search, the bride.
02:01She's looking.
02:02She's looking for who she is.
02:03Who doesn't relate to that?
02:06We're all looking for that true self, right?
02:08So, yeah.
02:09I've been hearing that this film is very relatable.
02:12I think so.
