Transcript
00:00That is a tweet asking for accountability from the previous administration about the
00:05Iran deal. The first thing was shock that they were saying it was racial.
00:10On Thursday night, Fox News' Sean Hannity gave comedian Roseanne Barr a chance to
00:14explain her racist tweet about former Obama administration adviser Valerie Jarrett
00:18that got her fired from her rebooted ABC show. During her appearance, Barr reiterated
00:23that she did not know Jarrett was African-American when she posted the tweet
00:27in which she compared Jarrett to an ape. The disgraced comedian said she thought Jarrett,
00:31who was born in Iran, was Iranian. Hannity asked Barr several times to address Jarrett,
00:35with the actress eventually issuing a tepid apology. She then took a dig at Jarrett,
00:39however, saying that she needs a new haircut.
00:42"'I've apologized a lot. It's been two months,' Barr said.
00:44"'I've apologized and explained and asked for forgiveness. I was so sad that people thought
00:48the tweet was racist.'"
00:50"'And then I went into the whole thing about the whole discussion of racism and that blew my mind
00:55because it's so much a part of what the show I was doing was about.'"
01:00The host seemed skeptical initially about Barr's excuses for the tweet, saying,
01:04"'There are still a lot of people who look at that comment and they cannot
01:07believe that you didn't know better.'"
01:10Barr responded with this.
01:11"'You know, I made a mistake, obviously. It cost me everything.
01:15My life's work, everything. I made a mistake and I've paid the price for it.'"
01:19Barr's appearance with Hannity aired the same night as she recorded a live podcast with friend
01:23Rabbi Shmuley Bataik at the New York Comedy Club, where she said she believes she has been
01:28forgiven for the tweet.
01:29About 20 minutes into the podcast, Bataik shared that he was bothered by his feeling
01:33that Barr wasn't forgiven for her tweet after her apology.
01:37"'Well, I kind of think I am,' she responded.
01:39"'I think people in America are very forgiving and I think if you put 30 years of what I've
01:43accomplished and you put it on a scale, I think the balance is more toward the good.'"
01:47Never before in my career of 30-some years have I ever felt the love and support of just people
01:56on the street than I do now.
01:59Bataik then told the assembled audience that Barr didn't leave social media after ABC
02:03canceled the Roseanne reboot because she wanted to utilize the platform to advance the interests
02:08of the Jewish people, an assessment with which Barr agreed.
02:11Jarrett made an appearance on Wednesday's episode of The View in which she said,
02:15Roseanne who? When asked about the tweet and backlash, she went on to add,
02:18"'In all seriousness, as I've said before, I'm fine.'"
02:21Barr had some harsh words about Jarrett's response.
02:24She said she invited Jarrett on Hannity but that she didn't succeed because she's into
02:28teachable moments, referring to Jarrett's original response to Barr's slur.
02:32Barr also addressed the Roseanne spinoff The Conners that will be moving forward at ABC
02:36without her, saying,
02:37"'I have mixed emotions and I go up and down with it. Sometimes I'm good with it, sometimes I'm not.
02:41I'm human.'"
02:42When asked if the show will succeed without her, Barr replied,
02:45"'Well, it is going to be interesting to see a bunch of really privileged people who grew up in
02:49Hollywood writing for the working class,' but added that,
02:52"'She doesn't wish anyone bad.'"
