Producer Karen Ryan tells THR at the THR X TikTok Awards Weekend Party how she's so excited to see 'Nimona' celebrated in the industry and being nominated for an Oscar. Plus, she reveals how much the audience response has meant to her.

00:02Oh man, excited. Really excited.

00:04This whole thing has just been so fun

00:05and so great to see Nimona celebrated in the industry.

00:09We almost, I mean, we were canceled.

00:11So the fact that we got to save the movie and it's back

00:14and we're the first animated film to be nominated

00:16that has queer main characters and a trans allegory

00:20and we're just, we're so excited.

00:22We're so excited about what this statement means,

00:23being nominated for an Oscar.

00:25What is the audience response to the film meant to you

00:27from those who've seen it and it really touched them?

00:29Everything.

00:30Like you make these movies and you make them for yourselves

00:32and you put them out into the world

00:33and you hope that people see themselves.

00:36And this movie has been like,

00:37people are feeling seen there.

00:40We're representing people who aren't represented

00:43and they should be,

00:44especially in kids and family entertainment.

00:46So the reception of the film has been

00:47like literally a dream come true.

00:49You can't ask for anything more

00:50when you make films like this.

00:52What's been the highlight of your award season journey

00:54for you with this movie?

00:56Ooh, I don't know.

00:58All of it has just been so great.

01:00It's been so nice meeting all of the other nominees

01:02and all the other filmmakers

01:03and just feeling the community out here.

01:07Have you had a favorite award season run-in,

01:08somebody you've gotten to meet this award season?

01:11I got to meet Celine Song

01:12and I love Past Lives so much.

01:15So I got to meet her

01:16and I got to tell her that

01:17and she hugged me

01:17and it was just a really wonderful moment.

01:20When it comes to Best Picture on Sunday,

01:22which movie are you rooting for?

01:23Do you want to say?

01:25Past Lives, 100%.

01:26I love all the movies are great.

01:27It's been a great year.

01:28Past Lives, a lot more films like that.

01:31Do you have a favorite performance

01:32from this past year?

01:33Performance?

01:36Ooh, I don't know.

01:37Like in what way?

01:38Performance.

01:43They've all been really, really good.

01:58I would choose Barbie.
