00:00Thank you so much for joining us at the Independent Spirit Award.
00:03You guys just won the John Cassavetes Award.
00:06The independent filmmaking is known for being hardscrabble and roll with the punches,
00:11so I'm wondering what is the most interesting thing you guys have had to do
00:14to make the day or get a shot or finish a scene?
00:19This film started in the basement of a church in Sunset Park, Brooklyn,
00:24and it's a true neighborhood film.
00:26We had delivery workers, priests, community organizers, soccer teams,
00:34everyone helping to make this film possible.
00:39We did street casting, so we were literally in the street stopping people,
00:44and Ken Noel is one of the actors that we were lucky enough to find in the street.
00:51And what was that experience, you know, them coming up to you
00:54and having them ask you to be a part of this movie?
00:56I was the last one, and it was on Facebook.
01:00Some of my friends shared it, so I said, you know, I want to act before I die.
01:05And then I said, let's give it a try, you know, so we went.
01:08And then months later, I even forgotten about it.
01:11They said, you know, you're selected.
01:14Do you want to come in tomorrow?
01:16I said, right on.
01:17So, you know, everything started to become more interesting.
01:20And what does, you know, winning this award mean for your film?
01:24What does this platform mean?
01:26We really hope it means more people will see it.
01:28It's available on HBO now, and hopefully soon will be available other places.
01:32We're just hoping it has a long life because it brings joy to people,
01:35and let's face it, we could all use a little joy right now.
01:38Yeah.
01:38And have you had a favorite screening experience or audience reaction to the movie
01:44in the time that it's been out?
01:46Well, the film has been screened all over the United States,
01:51and it's very nice because it's not a melodramatic story.
01:55It's a struggle.
01:56It's a story about struggle and fight,
01:59and it has a lot of love and friendship, and it has a lot of humor.
02:03Well, you guys, thank you so much, and congratulations again.
02:06Amen. Thank you.
